Toshiba MQ01ABD100 with preinstalled windows 8 freezes

I have bought sony vaio laptop with windows 8 preinstalled.
after hours of updates (model release from 2013 jan and its second day of endless search) laptop managed to update to windows 8.1 but i still cant use laptop due to continuous freezing and lag.
all updates are done ( windows update + vaio app updates + latest updates from sony website by model number)
noticed in device manager that driver looks a bit too old - can it be the issue ?

I suspect you didnt "update" to win 8.1 given the driver version (6.2.9200.16736) which is win 8. Under "device updated" it says false.
The age of the driver probably is not the issue. Can you boot at all?

If I am reading your issue correctly. Windows 8 came pre-installed on a computer with a hard disk setup as a GPT with UEFI configured.
If this is the case then the outcome you are experiencing is correct.
Windows 7 does not inherently have the ability to install into a GPT disk from the base installation.
The Windows 7 DVD is designed to install using BIOS mode.
Also note that Windows 7 x86 does not support UEFI mode.

ITunes with 64bit Windows 7 - Freezes

I was going to install iTunes on my computer running a 64bit version of Windows 7. Even though it is a 64bit version of iTunes, it seems like it installs as a 32 bit application. It has * 32 beside the process in task manager, and it's installed in the x86 program files folder. Besides that, it seems to install fine. However, when I run iTunes, it freezes for a few minutes and shows the CPU usage frozen at 25, and the interface doesn't respond at all. If I minimize the program, I can't bring it back up until after a few minutes. When it finally started working, it showed the capacity of my iPhone 3G as 4 gigabytes instead of 16gB. When I tried to transfer purchases from the phone to my computer, it showed the transfer progress bar and I got no errors, but the applications didn't show up in the apps window. I think this is some sort of 32bit 64bit compatibility issue. Does anyone know how to solve these issues?

I would like some feedback on this issue as well. I have iTunes 10 installed on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop as well. I hate to even watch any of my iTunes shows due to the lagging and freezing. It is extremely frustrating since I purchased this particular season of shows because they are no longer available to view online. I have stopped all unneeded services and disabled DirectX video features. It didn't help.
I am also confused about the iTunes 64 bit version as it does say it is the 32bit version in task manager not to mention the Quicktime is only in 32 bit as well.
Someone, please give some insight.

How to create recovery discs for HP notebook with preinstalled Windows ?

I Have just bought the HP ProBook 4530s with preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
The notebook was purchased in the hipermarket so that it has no Windows installation discs.
There is a Windows 7 label sticked to the machine.
When I try to use standard Windows 7 procedure:
Start > Control Panel > Backup Your Computer > Create a system repair disc
it shows the error:
System Repair disc could not be created
the parameter is incorrect 0x80070057

Hi BH,
I have read the link you suggested and tried to find HP Recovery Manager at my notebook.
1) I typed Start > Search > "Recovery" but it was not installed.
2) I ran the HP Software Setup to check recommended and optional HP applications. HP Recovery Manager was not there.
3) I downloaded HP Recovery Manager for Windows 7 and ran the installation
I accepted the default folder.
C:\SWSetup\sp45415
It showed an installation form for a while and then completed with no message.
4) I repeated action (1) but no HP Recovery Manager.
5) I checked uninstall menu but no HP Recovery Manager.
Please let me know what to do next ?

Hello sir, I bought this laptop (Hp pavilion dv6 6115tx Entertainment Notebook)around 4 years ago with preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium Operating system. As you know Microsoft is going to give free upgrade to Windows 10. But the problem is that the product key below my laptop is not much visible. I am unable to identify the product key. Yes, you can use the same product key for 64-bit release too, as SenneVL says. But, kindly note that upgrade across is not supported and you need to perform clean install only. Also, kindly note that the Windows installation must be made in the same PC,
even if different architecture is being used. Otherwise, activation issues will arise.
Multiple architecture is supported in multiboot, so Windows 32-bit and 64-bit can be installed as multiboot environment, parallely.

I recently bought an E540 laptop and my question is how can I get it to run Windows 8? The box says it comes with preinstalled Windows 7 and 8 but not sure if I accidently pressed something on first boot up that caused it to start Windows 7. Is there any way to run Windows 8 instead? I do not mind reinstalling everything.

Is it Windows 7 Professional? I wonder if it was specified as "Windows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 64". I haven't seen a machine with both 7 and 8 preinstalled. (that doesn't prove much...)
If it is as I suspect, the machine is licensed for Windows 8 (the key is stored in the BIOS) and has Windows 7 installed. It used to be that some machines in that configuration had a set of Windows 8 DVDs in the box, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more.

Activation of Preinstalled windows 8.1

Hi,I just bought HP Notebook with Preinstalled Windows 8.1 (64 -bits) but windows not activated. Hi John, You could try the following, however if it doesn't resolve the activation issue, my best advice would be to return the notebook to the retailer and get it replaced as Windows should show as activated after the initial set-up. Hold down the ctrl and alt keys and press delete. Select Task Manager. In the bottom left select More Details ( if it's not already selected ). Click in the Name column header to arrange the processes in alphabetical order. Find the process Windows Explorer, then right click on it and select Restart. When the process has restarted, close Task Manager, then right click the Start Menu icon, select Command Prompt (Admin) and click ‘Yes’ to the uac prompt. Enter the following command and hit enter ( Note that there is a space between slmgr and -rearm ) slmgr -rearm Restart the notebook. Regards, DP-K

Toshiba must have or should have provided you with a CD/DVD and seril number with the machine. however, if PSe is freezing then the first thing you need to try is to reset it to default settings. This can be done in two ways but the easiest ay to do is to go to (I am mentioning only the one method here):
<C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\11.0\Editor>
Find the file called: Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Prefs.psp and rename it to: Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Prefs.old
For username you need to insert the correct username or Windows profile name. Also, when you are doing this, make sure PSE is closed completely i.e. you should not have it open to do any work.
I am assuming you know how to browse the relevant folders if they are hidden in the system because this is taken for granted here. Also, the file names may not have any extensions but I am sure you know how to make them display on the screen.

What is the size of your hard disk? PSE 4 is a very old program and I suspect it is not able to access the entire hard disk on your machine. Just a thought here.

I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

You may have to follow the slightly more detailed steps in whichever of these two applies to you.

Rebooting into safe mode may be needed to delete any folder the instructions say you should remove. You may also find this Microsoft Fixit helps to remove stubborn components. It has taken some people several attempts to completely clean iTunes and supporting software before they have been able to successfully reinstall it.

MSI GT60 with Vertex 4 SSD - Freezing, won't load Windows only in SATA III port

New to the world of SSD's and trying to get my Vertex 4 to be able to operate at 6 Gb/s. I know that in my MSI GT60 that it has to be in port 1 because that is where the SATA III controller is, port 4 is just a SATA II. I was able to update the Vertex 4 to firmware version 1.5 and when it is plugged into port 4, no issues at all. It will run and take anything i throw it while running at 3 Gb/s in SATA II mode. My port 1 currently houses a 500gb Western Digital Scorpio drive.
As soon as i throw the Vertex 4 in port 1, issues arise. Sometimes i get a disk read error right after bios, sometimes it just freezes. On the latest Intel RST for my board, 11.2.0.1006 it can actually boot on occasion but 90% of the time freezes but still only reads 3 Gb/s when it does boot. It does the same thing in version 11.1.0.1006 and any older RST it just freezes or says disk read error and never boots.
I have my bios set to AHCI mode and i have tried the Vertex 4 by itself and also with the WD 500gb in the other port. When i switch back to Vertex 4 in port 4 and WD in port 1, no issues at all. Just trying to see if this is a known issue or anything else i can look at. I made sure to break the RAID 0 and it was a clean install of windows 7 to the drive.
Running on bios E16F3IMS.10M. The Vertex 4 is at its latest firmware as well. I do have one PCI device i can't identify in Windows and thinking it might be the issue but can't narrow it down. I have the Intel RST installed.
I also posted this on the OCZ forum and did their tips as well.

It's possible that charger damaged some part of the connection on the iPad. There's little metal contacts on that small silicon chip sticking out of the port and if something happens to one of those little contacts it can effect how it works.
You can try taking it into an apple store and have them look at it. If you'd only used 'official' stuff there'd probably be no question but once they know that the damage, potential damage, was caused by a third party device, then it may be up to the discretion of the manager what they do with it. Whether they replace it under warranty or decide that the warranty is void (I honestly don't know how strict they can be with the use of third party devices and how they may/may not work)
