  • Need some Vista drivers for NB100 mini book

    When I installed vista on NB100 I can't find drivers for :
    Network wired card
    wireless
    webcam
    and display driver
    Where Can I find them?

    Hi,
I think you must search on external websites. Toshiba doesnt provide Vista drivers on this notebook because the system requirements of Vista are too high for a mini notebook and Windows XP or Ubuntu will run smoother as Vista.
Anyway, here are some examples where you can search:

  • No sticker with license number Windows XP to Toshiba NB100

I lost sticker with license number Windows XP to Toshiba NB100. I have an invoice.
How can I retrieve licence number?
Authorized service refused to support this topic.

    Hi
You cannot retrieve the licence number.
First of all the sticker on the bottom of the unit was an OEM serial key. Such key cannot be used and would not work in connection with fresh installed Win XP system.
The point is that Toshiba image which was preinstalled on this notebook was already activated and this means that such key was useless.
I assume you did not create a Toshiba Recovery disk (or flash USB stick) in the past? Right?
Such disks would reinstall the Toshiba image containing activated Win XP system.
Well, usually its possible to order such disk [here|http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] but I think this would not be possible anymore because of the notebook age.
Solution: you would need to purchase the Win XP with valid serial key.

  • Can I change hard disk with SSD drive in Toshiba NB100?

Can I change hard disk with SSD drive in Toshiba NB100 ?
The Hard disc in this model is same size as SSD 2.5" drive?

    Hi
As mentioned above: the SATA controller is supported so you will need to use a SATA SSD drive usually it should not be a big problem to upgrade the notebook with an SSD drive in some cases it could be possible that the SSD firmware needs to be updated but this depends on the SSD drive manufacturer
However, the SSD drive is much faster than a common HDD. Therefore you should notice a faster performance

  • Adding programs to mini notebook NB505-N508?

This is a novice question, but I was hoping someone could confirm.
Can this mini notebook run Quicken?  I have an external CD-ROM drive for installation, and the specifications for this computer seem to match what is required from Quicken.
My concern is that this computer seems to be for web surfing and such.  I just wanted to confirm it could also run software programs.  Quicken is the only program I need to run, and the only thing I will use this computer for.
    Thanks in advance!

Can this mini notebook run Quicken?
Sure, Michelle. You'll find it can use most any programs that are compatible with Windows 7.
If it's a little slow, you can double the memory (from 1 to 2 GB).

  • Ipad / mini notebook

    Hi all,
I recently came across the coffee corner forum and find it interesting, so started going through the discussions whenever i find time at my coffee break.
I just wanted to know your openion about what I have specified in the subject line.
As many of you might travel becasue of your work or vacation, what do you think the better option to watch films / surfing internet while travelling ? it should be like easy to carry, so i find two possibilities one is Ipad, other one is sleek, tiny notebook (11 inches i guess)
    any inputs?
    Have a nice coffee day
    Sats

As a person who grew up with black and white TV received via rabbit ear antennas when contrasting them to today's large format HDTVs, I can tell you there is no comparison. In fact, with my larger sets (36 inch and 55 inch), I find it almost annoying to watch the non-HDTV channels as the resolution is so bad. You don't notice it as much on the smaller sets like 22 inches or smaller, but the image is quite blurry on the larger sets. Luckily, Verizon Fios has lots of HD versions of the major network channels and subscription channels.
As to the original question, I would go with the mini notebook. I like the size, have no problem with the keyboard - in fact I like it better as the keys are not as far recessed as on full size ones with touchpads, and I can read the screen provided I have my old man bifocals on. When my wife's Dell died (don't get me started on that), I tried to talk her in to getting one but she complained about the screen size. We tried out several. I liked the little Sony Vaio best (even came in pink which I tried to point out to her as an advantage).
The ipad is getting a lot of publicity (in SAP as well) but seems mostly useful for people who want to hold on to a device while making a presentation. They aren't tied to a podium with a laptop and can read and respond to feedback channels set up live during the presentation. That is likely not to be as easy even with a mini notebook.
It really depends on what you need to do. I don't do live presenations and found the Ipad sort of annoying in terms of having to switch around the keyboard and display. I have a Mac Powerbook and found it to be a lot more intuitive in terms of operation than the Ipad. I suppose I could force myself to get used to the Ipad if someone was to give me one as a present

  • Toshiba Encore mini on sale tomorrow. Should I get that or HP Stream 7?

I've just noticed that the Toshiba Encore mini is on sale tomorrow, and I doubt it will ever get cheaper than $79, and it's also bundled with a 16 GB micro SD card: http://tabletmonkeys.com/toshiba-encore-mini-december-sales-79-free-microsd-card/
Does anyone have any experience with comparing the Encore mini to the HP Stream 7? I've wanted the Encore for a long time, but the Stream 7 is also interesting. But at the forums there I keep reading about the faults it has. It even has a hissing noise when the headphones are used. Just weird.
It would be great if someone had experience with both these tablets and knew which one was the most problem free.
    TIA

mine didnt come with a SD card or a wall charger -_- idk about u but when every thing is done and updated u'll have around 800-900MD free on the onbored SSD. but all in all its a good tablet (as of right now) i'm only get around 4 hours or so. but im still happy with it,

  • Toshiba NB100

Ok, so i have been a  bad boy and bought a toshiba nb100, which is their netbook,  i bought it as i noticed toshiba are doing a rebate of £30 on all netbooks bought in january and that got the device down to about 200 quid, which i thought was reasonable enough.
I got the nb100-11R which is the 512MB ram 80GB hd version running ubuntu netbook remix,  it seems pretty quick, although i have had it out of the box for about 15 minutes.  Now I quite like the remix interface for the nb100 and it seems to work quite well, however I am now thinking about putting arch on it.  Has anyone got this netbook and if so do they have any experience putting arch on it, I am assuming that it would be pretty much the same as the aspire one or any other netbook given the style.
    Any thoughts?

    Ok, Final update.
I now have a fully working installation of arch.  To get the installer working from a USB stick, you need to change the SATA mode from AHCI to compatibility, and then boot the image, change the grub settings during boot to add "irqpoll acpi=off" and then boot.  You will then be able to install from the latest live image.
You also need to add these kernel parameters to the menu.lst of your new install.
Once you have installed, you will need to download all the core repository files from the ftp server, including the core.db.tar.gz file.
Having done this, copy the .pkg.tar.gz files to the /var/cache/pacman/pkg folder.  If you have these files on another machine, then just copy those instead. Make sure you get the i686 files NOT the x86_64, as I haven't tested the x86_64 version.
Logged in as root do the following:
    cd /var/lib/pacman/sync/core
    rm -rf *
    tar -zxf /path/to/core/db/file/core.db.tar.gz
This will now give you the latest synced repository for pacman.
Do pacman -Syu.  You will now have a fully up to date system.
    Reboot.
Having done this, you will be able to remove the irqpoll and acpi=off kernel parameters, as the latest kernel works perfectly.  You can also change the SATA drive mode back to AHCI from compatibility.  You should now have a fully installed version of Archlinux.
Update and install stuff as you need.
The video driver you want is xf86-video-intel, same as with the Aspire one.
I found that Audio, video, webcam, and power management worked out of the box once the system was updated, changing your /etc/acpi/handler.sh to include pm-suspend when the lid button is pressed causes the device to suspend when you close the lid, resume works perfectly also.
I have yet to test battery life properly, but I am sure that it will need some optimisation to get it working correctly.  I have also not installed a custom kernel as yet.
I currently have a full GNOME desktop working, along with all my applications installed correctly.  One point to note is that with this screen I have found it best to reduce font sizes to 7pt rather than the 10 they were originally.

  • Toshiba Mac mini

What is the best setting for screen resolution clarity on my TV and Mac mini.
    TV = toshiba 32c100u

1366 X 768 is the max resolution of that model, so set it to that.
    Seriously though, you'd do better with a 23" monitor that'll handle 1920 x 1080.

  • HP mini notebook

I have a HP mini with windows 7. It suddenly came on screen with a message " windows error recovery' have tried everything. HELP!!! This is my daughter notebook that she got for Christmas and she really loves it!!

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
Note:  If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the f2 diagnostic menu instead.
Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
