Toshiba NB200 booting erratically

My NB200 turned moody exactly 10 days after the warranty expired. Initially it did not reboot, I had to turn it off and back on. Now is not always turning on when I press the power button, actually it shows green lights for the power button but nothing more, it just freezes there.
Does anyone has experience the same, any solutions? I went through the self-diagnosis in the Toshiba site and it recommended me to take it to a service shop. In practical terms. Being this NB200 a $350 unit, shall I better get a new computer? maybe a more reliable one this time? suggestions will be appreciated.

Advice from Toshiba - their solution didn't help me, but someone might find it useful:
+The problem you report could be consistent with the laptop being stuck in a corrupted hibernation state. The typical symptom of this is the system starting to a blank screen with F2 and F12 not being available.(...) If the battery goes completely flat when the laptop is left in a hibernation state this can cause such corruption.+
+Power cycle instructions are as follows:+
+Make sure machine is switched off+
+Remove the mains power lead+
+Remove the battery from the bottom of the machine+
+Press and hold the 'Power On' switch for 20 seconds (this ensures there is no residual charge on the system keeping it in a hibernation state).+
+Reconnect to mains power+
+Check mains power indicator light is lit (if it isn't then the ac adapter may be faulty)+
+Switch machine on+
+If it now starts to a Windows Error Recovery screen then select Start Normally.+
+Put the battery back in+
+This process ensures that the laptop starts from cold rather than attempting to resume from a previous hibernation state.+
+There are Power Options that can be changed to alter the way the system behaves on actions such as shutting the lid. To investigate these Power Options use these instructions for Windows XP.+
+Click on Start button and select Control Panel+
+If Control Panel is in Category View (you will see Pick a category in a large font) then click on the link on the left had side to Switch to Classic View.+
+Now double click on Power Options+
+On the Power Schemes tab you can select the Power scheme from a drop down list. It is possible to change to the scheme Always On which will prevent hibernation (click on Apply to select) - this would not normally be selected on a laptop as the battery life will be shorter if laptop is left on unused. Alternatively individual options can be changed from here. For example - 'System Standby' whilst 'Running on batteries' can be switched to Never.+
+On the Advanced tab you can alter the behaviour of the computer when the lid is closed - to 'Stand by', 'Hibernate' or 'Do nothing'.+
+On the Hibernate tab you can turn off hibernation altogether. Clear the tick in the Enable Hibernation Checkbox.+

  • Toshiba NB200-10z - recovery disc creator.lnk isn't available

Hello, I have a problem with my netbook Toshiba NB200-10z, when I run Toshiba recovery disc creator I get the window with:
The unit or network connection to which the link refers "recovery disc creator.lnk isn't available.
Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available and try again
    How can I fix it?

Since this is an English language forum you should post the message in English language.
I assume you are not able to start the Recovery disk creator software
    Why?? Who knows.
Try to recover the notebook using HDD recovery option:
Press F8, choose Repair my Computer, and HDD recovery.
If this would not be available or possiblewell you will need to try to order a recovery disk from Toshiba or would try to install the system using another disk

  • Unable to charge Toshiba NB200 at all

    Hi,
I recently bought myself a Toshiba NB200 and after the battery finally ran out, I tried charging it but to no avail. When I plug in the charger, the plug light at the bottom with all the other kinds of lights(HDD light, battery light etc.) shone green whilst the battery light was orange the whole time even though I had left it for a long time. Everytime I tried to turn on the computer whilst 'charging', I could only get as far as the windows start up page when it turns off itself due to low power.
What problem am I experiencing because it seems weird that the plug light is green whilst the battery light is still orange after a long time.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem or any alternative method if this problem can't be solved?
(Well a point to take note of is I bought my laptop in Thailand and it charged well but when I brought the laptop back, I can't charge it but the thing is I've brought my previously Thailand bough laptop back to Singapore and it worked fine, so I do not think its anythign wrong with the laptop being from different country and all)
Thanks in advance to any help. :D

I have a NB200-110 that will no longer charge. I have replaced the battery & AC charger & it still won't charge! I have 26% battery life left before the battery dead & I can't switch it on! Any idea what the problem could be? (if Popsicle could you copy a reply to my email address - [email protected]) thank you

  • Toshiba NB200 Unable to browse in internet

    Hey everyone,
I have a Toshiba NB200. I am able to connect to a network (tested on home router as well as prepaid 3G USB modem) and I can ping websites in DOS. I cannot browse. I have tested IE and Firefox and both have the same results. I have tested with the firewall off and still no luck.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance!

    >What do you mean 'check' the WLAN and LAN? Just connectivity?
I meant that you should check if you can browse in internet using the WLan or LAN connectivity.
Then you will know if there is something wrong with your 3G configuration or with any other windows settings which would prevent the internet browser from showing the online webpages.
    > As for the pinging, I'm actually pinging through a 3G prepaid modem USB and I can ping any website ... I just can load them on a browser. I don't have a router sitting between me and the Web, so I haven't tried pinging an local network IP address.
Did you setup the connection correctly?
In IE browser you can check this in Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections tab
Furthermore I would recommend checking the TCP/IP protocol settigns.
For every conenction the TCP/IP protocol can be configured separately and usually it should be set to assing teh IP adress automatically.

  • Toshiba NB200 monitor resolution vs photography editing software

    Hello,
I'm thinking to buy a Toshiba NB200. The maximum screen resolution is 1024x600. I worj in photography and use Photoshop CS4 and/or Lightroom 2.5, both need 1024x800 minimum resolution. If I use this program in Toshiba NB200 it will make interpolation and pixel (re-)calculation, right? There is a solution, or what photo software do you recommend to use with Toshiba NB200?
    Best Regards,
    Vasco Neves from Portugal

    Hi
Im not a photographer but maybe you can use Photoshop on an external monitor where you can choose a higher screen resolution.
    Check this!!!
Alternative you can use GIMP. As far as I know there is no minimum screen resolution.

  • Toshiba NB200 Touchpad Not Smooth?

I bought a Toshiba NB200-10Z this week and I'm pleased with my purchase, very stylish. The only thing is if my fingers are dry the touchpad feels a bit rough in smoothness when gliding your finger across it. But if my fingers have a bit of moisture on its fine and smooth to use. Does anyone else experience this problem? I don't think this is a problem with mine individually I think its the texture of the touchpad.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

In my opinion NB200 is not some special notebook with special developed hardware and touchpad is not different as on other notebook models from different manufacturers.
At the moment I have three different notebooks in front of me and tochpads on all of them work well and properly.
Try to change settings in mouse properties, especially for sensitivity. Maybe this will help.

  • Microphonebug on Toshiba NB200

    Hey guys,
I have a microphonebug on my Toshiba NB200: The internal Microphone doesn't work (but that doesn't really matter), but also a plugged in external Microphone doesn't work properly.
    But sound-output works perfectly!
Gnome-sound-recorder and audacity don't even realize an input! Skype get's something that sounds a bit like a robot, but it is impossible to understand what I'm saying.
    Does anyone have an idea?
If you have questions, please just ask!

boost values are a mystery to me as well. I was trying to get an external mic to work on my desktop and if I increased the boost value beyond 50 (i think) my speakers would start screeching. Painful to hear !!!
yeah, so I just kept playing around with different settings until I was happy with the setup.

  • Toshiba NB200 PLL25A-00K002 Netbook (3G modem)

    Hello all,
Firstly my apologies if this information is located somewhere, I have searched Google & the Toshiba site with no luck.
My question is, what modem is in the Toshiba NB200 PLL25A-00K002 Netbook (3G model)?
More specifically what I want to know is if the modem supports the 850MHz or 900MHz 3G frequencies.
In Australia we only use the traditional 2100MHz 3G frequency in the major cities, outside of these area's there is only Telstra's 850MHz or Optus's 900MHz 3G frequencies. This is why I would like to know if it supports either.
    Thank you for your time.

UPDATE: I received my Toshiba NB200 PLL25A-00K002 yesterday (finally). I did a scan and have detected 3G 2100MHz Vodafone, Optus & Three/Telstra networks. I can also see "Telstra 3G" which is their 850MHz NextG band - which is great news.
So I guess I can confirm that this model laptop, although it is discontinued, if you can get one will work on Telstra's extended 850MHz 3G NextG network.
There are some cards out now that ALSO support the 900MHz 3G network, but as I am not in an area with this band I can not check this. I would presume due to the age of the Netbook now it would not support this (aka Vodafone / Optus Yes-G extended coverage areas) but when I get a chance to double-check I will and post back here.
I am now working on a fresh re-install and the 3G drivers & utility are not avialable on the standard Australian driver page, if you need these check out the post here:

  • Toshiba NB200 with video card went crazy

Hi, I have a big problem with my Toshiba netbook NB200-10J (PLL25E-00300VIT) because after making a backup of HD with Acronis True Image Home 11 (run with recovery discs and not with the software installed on Windows 7), reboot your computer has gone mad.
Specifically, my netbook has an integrated video card (Mobile Intel 945), which can reach a maximum resolution of 1024x600 while the computer after the backup has changed resolution to 1024x768 going even when it is in dos or when I enter the bios (in fact the screens of the bios are cut at the bottom).
I also tried to update the bios by downloading it directly from the site of toshiba but on reboot the resolution is always 1024x768.
Trying to launch a live distro of ubuntu 10 that I had on a CD, I noticed that in this case the OS "Sees" the correct video card he proposed as the possible settings 800x600 and 1024x600 (windows7 what he did before the backup with acronis).
What can I do to restore the situation before the backup ???? ATIH 2011 may have "busted" the bios the onboard video making "believe" on my laptop there is a 1024x768 monitor ????? is there any solution (even under Linux) to put everything in place ?????
Thank you all for the suggestions that I want to provide.

In my XP machine, the display is a setting. I don't know where this is in the registry.
What happens after you reinstall the chipset software and display driver in this order?

  • Toshiba screen boots, but it won't fully l

Hello, I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite Laptop C55D-B5310 about 5 months ago and recently, I turned it on and the screen that usually is there when it boots up (Toshiba, Leading Innovation.) and then it just stayed there, I also noticed that the Laptop was getting really hot so I decided to forcefully shut it down by holding the power button. I tried the same thing again several times, all resulted the same with me forcefully shutting it down.
I would just like to know if this is a simple problem before I take it to a technician, so I'm hoping I can easily fix this, which might be doubtful, so, if you know what is happening and how I can fix this, I would be very appreciated!

    Perform a SMC reset:

If that brings some life into the MBP, you may look at this if necessary:

  • Toshiba Not Booting

    Hello,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite M645. The processor is Intel(R) Core (TM) i5 CPU M480 @ 2.67 GHz, 2667 Mhz, 2Core(s) 4 Logic.
When I turn it on, I get the initial Toshiba screen, but then nothing. After ten minutes, it shuts off. Any guesses as to what the problem is and whether it is expensive to repair?
    Thank you,
    Megan
(sorry for the italics...I can't get it to turn off)

    Megan,
Can you please provide the full model number.  It is printed on the bottom of the computer.  or the full part number.  do not provide the serial number.
Can you try and do a power reset.  Remove the charger adapter and the battery and hold the power button for 20-30 sec.  reinstall the battery and try to boot up.  try on the charger, and if that doesn't work, try just on battery power.

Hi my hd was erased, I called Toshiba they told me I could down load the drivers from the driver page, by inputting in my serial number' I did as instructed, about 70 drivers came up, which ones do I download, also is there a partriculer order that they have to be installed. I have a CD writer and a 16gb flash drive need to know how to set either one up to hopefully install the items.
I can buy the boot drive from Toshiba but would like to get it working sooner than they could ship it.
Please help desperate in Colorado Springs.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What has happened is my daughter updated to windows 8.1, it wasn't working right so she tried to get rid of windows 8.1 by using and erase hard drive program, she stopped it mid way through the erase program by shutting it off with the power button.
I have tried to reinstall a windows 8 operating system, the drivers from the Toshiba web site and nothing will load, when I put either the CD or flash drive,it says "checking media then fail. After that the screen changes screens and says "no bootable media, please insert CD and restart". Have gone in and changed the boot from HDD to CD to USB, shut down the computer and restarted and says the same things as before. Have tried to install different items from the Toshiba web page and says the same things.
THe problem is I can't get any of the drivers, flash bios or anything to load with out the same sayings
