Toshiba Portege series 7100 recovery

Please can any one help?
I have a Toshiba Portege series 7100 laptop which has no recovery disk and is not working properly. Can I reset to factory default? If so how?
Can I restore laptop back without the disk?

OS (operating system W98 or any other supported OS).
Unfortunately I cannot find page with drivers for Portege 7100 but try to use drivers for similar models. Check under:

I really hope you will be able to configure your notebook properly.

  • Portege R700 - original recovery image re-installation failed

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Portege R700 for years.
As i already have some trouble, i did a reinstallation few years ago, from recovery partition. Directly.
But, few days ago, i had some issues with my portege.
HDD seems to be broken as it make some noise and was really, really, really, ..., really slow.
So, after making some data backup during hours and hours (remember, it was really, ..., really slow), i lauch a complete re-installation from "recovery partition". It seems to be good, but .. never finished the process, with same HDD noise, and again slow HDD I/O.
OK, my own diadnostic: change HDD.
This done, and using the Toshiba recovery DVD just bought (yes impossible to find the earlied burn DVD), i have ... the same issue. The recovery process does not end even if 'im waiting for days ...
And i have the same HDD noise. With the new one!!
So having a MSDN licence, i installed a Win7 Pro 32bits, but not the Toshiba one.
And it's running for days without any issue!
But i have to reinstall all drivers, and software delivered by Toshiba.
Obviouly i will prefer to find what is the exact issue with this Portege, and reinstall the Toshiba version of Windows 7 Pro.
So, if someonre read the story until, the question is: ANY IDEA?
How to make a HW diagnostic? How to identify the exact problem?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Dr Lamp.
    Remember that i
    - did a successfull recovery from recovery partition few years ago
    - tried 2 recovery recently
try 1, from recovery with initial HDD.
I'm not REALLY sure, but i think that the recovery failled during step "recovery image installation from copied data step 50/52"
    I'm not sure.
As it take hours during this step, if it go to the next step or not, as i let it run for hours and hours (yes, i'm persistent)
try 2, from original Toshiba DVD i ordered (35)
I'm sure it fail during an additionnal step you forgot.
Because after "installed OS will be prepared for usage", which configure a lot of things using numerous reboot, there is the final step which is "first launch of win7"
Note that not the exact term, but is something like that.
    Thanks for your help

  • Toshiba Portege M700-S7003X startup problem

I have a Toshiba Portege M700-S7003X (Part#PPM70U-03M01J; Serial#38084271H). Few days ago while I was working on the notebook suddenly a message showed up to restart the computer for some update purpose. However, when I tried to restart seems to me the computer is crashed. Right now whenever I try to startup it shows up messages: Safe Mode; Safe Mode with Networking; Safe Mode with Command Prompt; Last known Good config that Start windows normally. However, I tried with every option and at every case gets a quick blue screen which doesn't let me really see what's been said and then restarts.
I would highly appreciate if anyone suggest me the possible ways to solve the problems.
    Thanks!!

That's a good sign. It usually means the hard drive contains some corrupt files and can be repaired, but it's not easy.
You should boot to the Recovery Console and try to resurrect the hard drive by running chkdsk /r. See KB297185.
Unless you have access to a Windows XP installation CD, you will need the downloadable Setup boot floppies. And you may need a PA3109U-3FDD USB Floppy Disk Drive.

  • Black Screen Problem on my Toshiba Portege M800-A330

I own a Toshiba Portege M800-A330 for more than a year now.  Whenever I have problem on it, uhmm.. for example: virus, or corrupted operating system, all I do is to format my laptop or recover it using system recovery from the hard disk or using recovery disc which is inserted in the DVD drive.  But, recently I'm having a problem with my laptop.  My problem starts after I compressed the Drive C:, but I don't think that may cause the black screen problem that I'm encountering since then.
Here goes my problem: When turning on my laptop, the first thing I can see is the "TOSHIBA" logo and then after it fades it just gives me a black screen.  I don't know why it's just black screen, perhaps its system has been corrupted.  I've tried using the system recovery for the Nth times, but sadly the ability to run the system recovery from the hard disk partition also FAILED and just gives me a black screen again.  When pressing "number 0" it does not direct me to the recovery features of the notebook but instead it only put me on a black screen.  Likewise when I use the recovery disc, it also put me on a black screen upon entering in the DVD drive, and so as when I'm trying to reformat my laptop with Windows7.
I can't even access the safe mode options of my notebook.  All I can access is the CMOS/BIOS setup features of the notebook when pressing F2.
Please help, I don't know what or where the problem maybe and what could be the possible solution on this.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

I dont know how can i recover the the HD partition with vista installed.. do this mean I really have to send my laptop to Toshiba service center? It will cost a lot of money, my laptop's warranty already expired.
while i understand that the outlooking symptoms may appear the same, you report that you compressed your C drive but the poster in the linked thread does not... sadly, the underlying problem may or may not be the same even though the surface symtoms appear to be so...
unfortunately, i don't know what to recommend and i feel that i must leave further answers to other support members who have better knowledge than i :?
in my own case, i've finally determined that i must purchase the reload disks from toshiba and hope that they are able to restore my machine to the original factory condition... in you case, i can't say that this is the way to go or not... it really sounds like something either BIOS or OS oriented... since the BIOS reset didn't take care of the problem, it may be something deeper (ie: video broked) or something else...
have you tried booting a *nix live CD like ubuntu? the idea here is that if a live CD of another OS boots, then there may be something wrong with your HD...
along those lines, have you tried running memtest86+ and/or a HD testing util for the drive in your unit? it is possible that memory has gone uuck or the HD may have a section of bad sectors...

  • Hard Disk Replacement for Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X

I have a Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X which is out of warranty. I would like to replace the hard disk. What hard disk should I purchase? What is the maximum capacity (size in GB), maximum RPM speed and size in inches I can use in this laptop? Will a SATA-2 hard disk work in this laptop? Any other information I need to know about the hard disk replacment? I would be happy to get an answer from an official Toshiba technician.
    Thanks,
              dandanl

I don't know if the Toshiba people who post here are technicians, I suspect not, so you might be waiting for a while if that's the only person you would accept information from...
At any rate, the standard drive in that computer looks like it is a SATA 2.5" 9.5mm thick.
The following is a spec page for one of the stock drive options (they used a couple different drives, but pretty much equivalent)
    http://storage.toshiba.com/storagesolutions/archived-models/MK1646GSX
As far as something of a larger capacity working, it should be fine, just keep in mind that a physically larger drive might not fit, so keep the height to 9.5mm

  • Archlinux on toshiba portege p2000 (2000)

    Hi,
I just got toshiba portege 2000 from my employer with windows xp on it. I would really like to install my favourite system (archlinux) on it, but I have no idea how. The ways I excluded are:
1: CD instalation. The only cd-rom I have is on pcmcia, and I does not work on boon.
2: USB stick install. Portege 2000 wont boot from usb.
Do you have any ideas that could help me. I really like the hardware but I will give it to another employee if it doesn't run linux.
    Thanks in advance,

Do you have a desktop computer you can take apart?  You can get adapters pretty cheaply to let you plug laptop drives into your desktop IDE controller.  So unplug all the desktops hard drives, and put the laptop drive as hda, and install as normal

On Oracle Metalink site, there are many documents which says that Oracle 32 bit software works on 32 bits OS and 64 bits software works on 64 bits OS. Official support is only in those combination....
So there is no good way to help you in your case-XE is 32 bit application with hard codded compiled libraries which most of them would not work on 64 bit OS.

  • Toshiba portege z935-p300 Space bar not working

    Hello everyone,
New to this forum but I'm hoping you can help me out. So I have a client that recently spilled liquid on her keyboard (toshiba portege z935-p300) and the space bar button stopped working. I havent cleaned under the button yet but obviously I'll do that first.
Typically when this occured I'd just go online and buy the entire keyboard tray and normally the issue is fixed. Well this specific keyboard I cannot find anywhere.
So the questions are does anyone know where I could find one of these keyboards? I found a site that sells the buttons for the keyboard which is what I'll be trying if I cant find the entire assembly.
    Thanks in advance.

HERE is one on Ebay for  $50. I've had very good luck ordering keyboards from Ebay vendors.

  • Intall Solaris 8 on Toshiba Portege 3440CT fail

I want to install Solaris 8 intel on Toshiba Portege 3440CT. it has one USB floppy drive and one PCMCIA CD-ROM.
When I use Solais 8 boot disk to boot the system. it just only show "SunOS..." on the top left hand conner and have no response. Should anyone know what happen to it?
If it is related to USB device or fail to startup PCMCIA CD-ROM, can I create a Install server on another PC to use network installation?
If the laptop PC is not possible to install Solaris, how I can verify it? Since Solaris 8 Hardware compatilable List do not have Laptop section, Did sun provide a PC utility to test whether my laptop is Solaris compatiable?

    Hi,
Problem with PERC RAID controller card.
You try to install the driver for AIC 7899 and Dell PERC RAID controller card. In dell computers, they have dell PERC RAID controller driver for Solaris 7 version. They don't have the driver for solaris 8 version.
You can download driver for SCSI AIC 7899 from this URL:
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASC-39160&filekey=u160_slrs_v121_dd.img.Z
Then you check with your local dell support provider for PERC RAID controller driver for solaris 7 and solaris 8.
    Thanks.
    revert back.

  • Toshiba - I cannot run Recovery DVDs successfully

I appreciate if somebody can help me to solve my problem as explained below.
My Toshiba laptop L650 developed some problems that is when I decided to resotore to its original form by running Recover DVDs which I created earlier using Toshiba Tempro.  Unfortunately, recovery process did not complete and I got error message which says "Boot manager missing", screen became black and I could not start my laptop.  Another bad news is that my HDD was formatted and I loose all my data in C&D drives.
Also I would like to know if recovery CD/DVDs do back up of C&D drives data.
How can I run recovery DVDs successfully?

    Hi
I dont think that the hacker or the virus is responsible for non CD drive booting. I cant believe it. In my opinion if the drive cannot read the CD so possibly the CD is corrupt or the drive has a malfunction.
However, in my opinion you should be able to enter the BIOS. As mentioned above you can use the ESC and then F1 to enter the Toshiba BIOS. But if there is a Phoenix BIOS preinstalled so you have to use the F2 key. You have to press this buttons immediately after pressing the power button.
On my notebook I can also use the F12 key and the booting menu appears.
Then I can use the arrow buttons to select the booting device.
If you are not able to boot from the recovery CD so try to boot from the original Microsoft Windows CD.
Possibly it helps. Good luck :|

  • Toshiba ME Series - Can't reinstall it

    Hello all you Toshiba Experts!
I hope I'm on the right Forum, if not somebody will probablt let me know!
My problem (like every one else I've got one) is that my Toshiba ME Series laptop seems to be dead!
Suddenly when I started it up, it just told me "MISSING SYSTEM".....!
Now I've had all sorts of warnings and messages over the years, but this one was new!
I thought - never mind, take out the "XPPro Installation Disc" and reinstall the system then pass a few weeks getting it up to date etc...!
PROBLEM..... The CD-Rom disc opens, the CD-Rom gets put in, closed - then it starts with a few turns and then NOTHING....!
In other words, the CD-Rom player won't open the disc - so I can't re-install!
I do have an emergency set of "floppies" which say they will reinstall WIN XP (6 floppies in all) - but at the end of the procedure, it tells me to put the CD-ROM in - which, of course, doesn't work!
The PC IS old, almost as old as myself, but I'm of Scottish origins, and I don't like throwing anything away!
On top of which, I've tried to get a newer portable, but I live in France, and up till now, I haven't been able to find anyone (DELL International included) who can sell me a new one with "QWERTY" keyboard!
They've all got theFrench "AZERTY" keyboard, and I'm too old to learn typing again!
So - what is the advice of the Toshiba masters and wizards out there - Come on - HELP!
Thank you ALL - in advance!

Well - I surely can give you lots of details! Here they ALL are (taken from the back of the PC) -
"Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition" - Product key H8T8Y-HGBMJ-3DTCM-BPHBX-CXRVY
    TOSHIBS S1800-100 - Model No. PS181E-00CE9-DU
(Incidentally - I was given this PC by some Dutch friends, so I suppose that accounts for the letters "DU" in the model No.)
    SERIAL NO. 91536198G SS181-0
There is another "sticker" which I think relates only to the warranty - but here it is as well: TOSHIBA1202-040714-31 - Serial 91536198G
Who knows - maybe this PC is a museum piece! If so - anybody want to have it - in exchange for a BRAND NEW "QWERTY" keyboard Toshiba Portable PC - One time offer!
Thank you for answering anyway, and I hope I'll hear something else from you!

  • Toshiba Portege Problem: *Battery is not charging and web camera initialization failed.*

    Hi,
I am having problems with my Toshiba Portege laptop. 1) Once laptop opens, window appears which says, "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer." Not sure what happened why the web cam application did not run properly. 2) Battery won't charge. When clicking the battery icon, it just says, "0% available plugged in, charging." I  can not open my laptop when the cord is unplugged.
Appreciate if you can help me or any advice.
    Thanks,

always good to tell what Portege and what system is running...
    anyway -
    to #1
an autostart process requests the camera, maybe Skype?
some web cams on USB ports do take some time
been initialised especially when attached via hub.
Windows boot sequences do not wait until they finished.
if the camera is working after a while than thats here the
case despite that message and it can be ignored.
    to #2
forget the software symbol for the purpose of the question -
on any notebook you should see a battery symbol/LED
somewhere on the case. its yellowish/orange when
charging green when battery is full.  if it doesn't change into green
(overnight charging) the battery is faulty or even missing...

  • Does Toshiba portege t130 supports 64 bit windows OS??

I have a Toshiba portege t130 laptop..it had 32 bit windows 7home premium os...I have formatted it with the 64 bit OS..now it starts hanging a lot...does it really support the 64 bit OS??

Unless your RAM exceeds 4 GB, there is nothing to gain by installing 64-bit Windows.
But there are lots of things to lose with 64-bit Windows. It cannot run any 16-bit applications. That includes all DOS applications. It cannot even install 32-bit applications that have 16-bit installation packages.
In order to run 32-bit programs, 64-bit Windows needs to emulate the 32-bit environment and run the programs there. So it runs most everything slower - not faster. Usually, you won't notice the slow down. See KB906892 for an extreme example. Eventually, there will be 64-bit applications. But for now they are rare.
Many older peripherals have only 32-bit drivers.
