Toshiba PX1267E-1G32 External HD Problem

Hi all.
I've had a Toshiba PX1267E-1G32 External HD for awhile now and its fantastic. I normally run it on Windows XP, and recently, I've started using Windows 7.
When I plug the External HD in, the password box pops up, I enter the password, It states the password was successfully entered, and I click ok.
The HD is supposed to rev up and load the data partition as a seperate drive so that I can naturally access the data stored on the HD, but this isn't the case on Windows 7. Nothing happens after I correctly validate my password.
I also tried removing my password restriction, but all that loads is the password partition of the External HD. I am Running in Administrator mode, but to no avail.
Can someone please tell me how to load up my 'data' partition of the the Toshiba PX1267E-1G32 External HD.
Thanks so much in advance,

Hi VixT3R
I have exactly the same problem with yours. I have two laptops, one with XP and one with newly-installed Win7.
We seem to share the same fate. I tried to access my Toshiba external HD in Win7 but the secure partition cound't be accessed. Only password partition showed. When I tried to accessed it from my XP laptop, it failed again. I was able to disable the password protection. (Actually I never changed the password from the default one. Now I regret that I should have disabled it before I tried to use the drive with Win7.) Now, whenever I plugin the drive, there's no dialogue box popping up requesting password anymore. Anyway, I can see an unallocated partition in the windows disk management.
Please let me know how did you manage to recover the data in the secure partition. I have another external HD with space available enough for data stuck in the toshiba drive.
For your information you can turn your toshiba drive into a simple external drive without password protection by using "CD to HDD Convertor" downloaded from TechSupportLive ([http://www.techsupportlive.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view&parentcategoryid=9& pcid=8&nav=0,8|http://www.techsupportlive.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view&parentcategoryid=9& pcid=8&nav=0,8] ). That being done, I think you can use the toshiba drive on Win7 as well.
I'm really glade to know that I'm not the only one in this situation. I'm looking forward to receiving valuable answer from you.
Best,
Thanawit

    Hello all
I have a problem with a Toshiba px1267e 320 external drive, when all was ok with it I would switch on and the blue led would come on and change blue /violet as it was found on my laptop, a small vibration could be felt if I handled the case indicating that the d/d motor was on.
On that fateful morning I switched on did an explore in my computer and found no ext drive, checked the drive blue led on touched the case could detect no vibration, unclipped the drive from the case put my ear to it heard faint clicking.
I removed device and connected to caddie, this time I could feel the motor going, connected to laptop, new hardware found did my computer explore and found no drive, checked device manager and found it so I uninstalled and reconnected usb with same result.
I am not sure what do next.
I had a word with computer shop if they could recover a while I wait they said at least a 6 hour job if possible (dont want to leave at shop)
Bought me another western digital same model no and also new power supply to try swapping the electronics board just in case therein lies the fault /or possible us power/s but I am clutching at straws here.
Any of you guys here got anything like this happen ? any suggestions?
I am curious to know what they would try in the shop to recover although he said he couldn't guarantee results.
I would welcome any helpful suggestions (not throw it in the bin)

I think the external HDD is dead
Maybe its a head crash this would explain the faint clicking and other noises

  • Toshiba PX1267E-1G32 - USB issue on all PCs

Hi, sorry for my bad English.
I have a problem with PX1267E-1G32 (toshiba HDD USB).
When I connect Toshiba HDD to my USB port a message pops up,
"this device can perform faster if you connect it to usb 2.0
    port.............click here
    Also with another's pc.
I have WXP service pack 3 and WXP service Pack 2 another pc.
    Is possible a alimentation problem?
    Thanks!
    Marco

    Hi
    >this device can perform faster if you connect it to usb 2.0 port
This message appears if you have connected an external USB device to a computer which would not support the USB 2.0 standards.
I mean the Toshiba HDD PX1267E-1G32 would be able to work faster if it would be connected to a USB 2.0 port.
If you want you can disable this message:
Open Device Manager. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section at the bottom of the device manager window. Locate and then double-click a host controller. In the properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and then select the Don't tell me about USB errors check box.

    "+USB Device Not Recognized+

I've tried to reinstall the drivers from the internet & the HDD CD but the same message occurs.

The device still makes a noise and the blue light is on but no other action.
Is there anything I can easily do?
    Many thanks in anticipation

    > I thought that sort of stuff wasn't meant to happen to external drives....
Why not? The external HDD is the same like an internal notebook HDD which dies as well
    > Any other suggestions welcome
    I assume this is a 3.5 HDD
You could remove this HDD from the HDD case and could connect this HDD directly to an desktop PC using an IDE or SATA cable (Im not sure if this is an SATA or IDE HDD).
If the BIOS would recognize the HDD then you would have good chances to get access to the data stored on this HDD.

  • Will external HDD PX1267E-1G32 works on Mac?

Does anybody know if the PX1267E-1G32 external HDD will work on Mac OS X? It only states that it works on a PC, but I've never had any problem with other external drives. Thank you.

    Hi
Its a 320GB HDD! As far as I know this HDD contains some applications and software which are compatible only with the Windows OS.
    But Im not 100% sure.
A long time ago I have tested one and after connecting to the notebook the popup message appeared and I had to enter the standard password which was provided in the user manual.
Maybe this little tool runs only with Win OS.
Why you don't ask your HDD dealer for an test.

  • Toshiba external HDD PX1267E-1G32 not recognized

I have two hard drives of the same kind (px1267E-1G32) and they were working prefectly, but suddently they both didn't work on my computer anymore. I tried it on other devices but it's not working at all: theres no sound of the engine anymore when I switch it on, but the light of the power supply turns on.
On the computer there is sometimes the sound that something has plugged in, but then I don't see it neither on the device manager (i think this it is in English- i don't know it for sure because I'm only Austrian ;) ) or on my computer -in german "arbeitsplatz"- and then after a short period of time the sound of Plugging-out chimes
I've looked it up in other Threads and on other webpages, but nothing has helped me.....
    What shall i do?

    hey Xardas
i don't see it there (i ment this with device manager...i haven't known the correct name for it :) )
but the cable worked yesterday (the last time) and i haven't moved it one nanometer ^^ and the engine normally works when you turn it on (even if it's not plugged in the computer...) but there's no sound (you normally hear that) and theres only sometimes a "Klick" and that's it....
and the problem is only with these two HDD of the same kind...the other ones i have are working on the computer...so i think thats a problem with the HDDs, but how to solve it?

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

  • How to remove CDFS partition on PX1267E-1G32?

Does anyone now how can I remove the CDFS partition on this disk (PX1267E-1G32)?
I want this disk using as an USB external harddrive without this CDFS partition.
I don't use the backup software REGEN.
Is this possible? I tried several programs to remove this partition, but now one did do the job.
    Thanks

    Hi
To be honest Ive no experience with such external HDDs but usually all partitions would be deleted from the HDD if you would format the HDD.
    Try to format it!

  • Possibly mundane Mini-DVI to VGA into an external monitor problem

    Hi,
I've had a look over the interwebs regarding my problem and it seems as if it's not unusual to have external monitor problems but I'm not sure if mine is slightly different:
I had a perfectly working set up with my new Macbook (the white one, '06 model I believe), that was connected to my Hanns-G HU196D monitor via a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, no problems whatsoever. But for a couple of weeks now my Macbook just flickers a light blue colour, with nothing at all on the monitor, and my macbook is unusable until I remove the adapter. I've read about updating firmware but I can't see my desktop once the macbook is connected to the monitor so it's not possible to configure anything. I've read somewhere that my external monitor isn't compatible with this set up, but it was until a couple of weeks ago!
My Macbook's 4 months old now and since then I've bought a new mini-dvi to vga adapter and a new VGA cable, no connections seem loose on either mini-dvi port or my monitor's vga port.
    Thanks if you can help!
    Jack

You will need to use a mini Dvi-dvi and a dvi-svideo/rca adapter.
    Joy joy hallelujah.
Pardon the sarcasm...I just wasted 3 hours of my life trying to sort the issue out.
Heard a KWORLD PlusTV PCTOTV Converter SA235 USB 2.0 Interface would sort the issue out for under 40$ but it's not Mac.
    Hope that helps.

  • Serious external drive problems after installing Mavericks

OK, so now I am seeing multiple external drive problems. Here is my setup: A GTech 4TB drive connected to MacBook Pro via Firewire, formatted of 2 partitions of 2TB each (called GT1 and GT2). This is then daisy chained to two WD drives of 2TB each, called WD1 and WD2.
After installing Mavericks everything worked fine (in fact I have an amazing speed increase). However, after restarting my machine this morning I have the following issues:
The GTech is now a single partition called MyBook (obviously a hangover from the WD drives. I suspect the WD drive managment software) with NO data files. Interestingly it shows the following USED 1,106,870,272 bytes (1.11 GB on disk). This suggests that one of the partitions has disapeared completely.
Whilst WD 1 launces ok, WD 2 causes the Finder to relaunch whenever selected, meaning I can't get to the files. I remember having this problem before when I upgraded to SL, and it having something to do with hidden files that needed to be deleted via the terminal. However, I have searched the web and can't find the solution again.
Given that WD 1 and 2 are my backups of GT 1 and 2, then I now have a situation where I cannot access my primary or backup files for GT 2. Very impressive - not!
Can anbody remember the hidden file solution for the finder relaunch?
Can anybody help me get back my GT1 and 2 partitions (as they have the latest work on them)?

FIrewire & Thunder bolt drives are having issues with Mavericks, avoid same until a fix is issued if you can.
many are reporting same, there is a firewire fault and TB HD on external HD from LaCie (Seagate) and from WD especially.
    Technicians are looking into it.
Until there is resolution, consider setting up a USB ext. Time machine HD.
Until then consider confining Mavericks use with USB HD.
Ive tested a very long line of USB HD on Mavericks, all seem fine.
Recommend anyone DO NOT ATTACH any WD MyBook externals (firewire, thunderbolt or otherwise).
I dont have same to test, so I dont know if the problem is in the firmware on the SATA bridge or if its a problem with the WD software

  • Beats audio android app external sound problem.

    Hey guys,
Recently i downloaded the Beats Audio Android app for my Optimus 2. At first it worked fine, the external sound was good, as well as the headphone output. Very shortly after the external sound became very fuzzy and loud, with the headphone output still working perfectly. The only feature that would play sound without fuzz was speakerphone while in a call. I decided to factory default my phone thinking it would fix the problem, i was already going to do it anyway. Come to find out everything got wiped including beats audio, but the same old external sound problems persisted. I'm not sure how to fix it and it is very annoying and sometimes randomly goes off. Help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
    -Tyler
Maybe it has something to do with the master volume? Although i'm not sure how to access that either..

    Hello,
I see that you are having trouble with the beats audio app on your phone. I would suggest that you post your issue here as well for assistance. The link will take you to the android forum for your phone.

  • Toshiba 2.0 External Unable to Delete Files

I have a Toshiba 2.0 External Hard Drive Model # HDDR500E03X. I am trying to delete old backup files, but when I go back to the folder, they are still there.
Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you!

This procedure will wipe the drive clean, i.e., format the drive.
At an elevated command prompt, enter diskpart and run these commands. Be sure you identify the correct disk!
    DISKPART> list disk
    DISKPART> select disk (id)
    DISKPART> clean
    DISKPART> convert mbr
    DISKPART> create partition primary
    DISKPART> select part 1
    DISKPART> format fs=ntfs

  • Aperture 3.5 + Mavericks external storage problems

Aperture 3.5 + Mavericks external storage problems
After upgrading to 3.5 and Mavericks, all my projects referencing files stored on NAS show blurry or black and not responding to edit commands. Sometimes Aperture crashes. The projects/photos were okay before upgrade. Also new projects on NAS show blurry or black or fail totally to import photos. If I move the same photos to the local drive, everything is just fine.
I am using NFS to access the NAS.
Reading through this forum I found some reports of similar behavior from people storing photos on USB external drives.
This seems to be only when referencing files located on an external drive. No problems if files are copied to the Aperture library.
    Any similar experience?

Referenced files on a NAS was always an gray area. While it worked for most users most of the time it wasn;t clear that Apple supported the configuration.
The Apple documents on Aperture and non-locally attached drives can be read in a number of different ways. Of course the library definitely had to be on a local drive (and even here some users reported success with the library on a NAS) but referenced masters were never explicitly mentioned either way.
Most users had success with the originals on a NAS but even with earlier version of Aperture and the OS there were always the occasional report of problems. When push-came-to -shove if moving the referenced originals to a local drive fixed the problems there wasn;t much else that could be done.
Since the release of 3.5 and Mavericks it does appear that referenced originals on a NAS do not work at all in most cases.  The best we can do here, being just users like yourself, is to suggest you contact Apple and try to get through to the Aperture team and see if you can get a definitive answer.
As for problems with referenced originals on locally connected drives, I'm not aware of any widespread problems. In the few cases I've seen it has come down to some issue with the OP's system.
Having your whole workflow and setup knocked out from under you like this is really bad, unfortunately there isn't much anyone here can do for this problem.
    regards

  • Toshiba ph3100u-1exb External Hard Drive Will Not Stay On

    Hello all.
I recently purchased a Toshiba ph3100u-1exb 1.0 TB external hard drive. It's working great, but the problem I am running into is that it will not stay powered on for more than a couple minutes. I'm sure that its some kind of power saving feature, but if there's a way to turn it off, I'd like to have the drive accessible at all times, as I use the information stored on it quite a bit.
When it powers down, I can always press the power button to bring it back up, but I would like to have it on all the time. Is there any way at all to do this? A setting on the drive, or possibly within Windows?
I have the drive hooked up via a USB cable, as this PC is a bit older and does not use the eSATA cables for hard drives.

    Hi
In my opinion the HDD should be checked with different computers and different OS (Vista, Win 7, Win XP). If the external HDD will not functions using different systems and computers then its definitely an HDD issue.
Ive got 2 different external HDDs one HDD died and I had to replace it.
In my opinion, if an HDD begins to malfunction then its mostly an hardware related issue and there is nothing to do as to replace the faulty drive
