  • Solid State Drive (SSD) for dm4 1160us notebook,,, an SATA II or SATAIII ?

I would like to go to a SSD and was wondering if this notebook supports SATA III or 6GB/s transfer rate. The HDD that is in there is a Seagate ST9500420AS ATA and research shows it has a 3gb/s transfer rate. I don't know if I should purchase a SSD that is 3GB/s or 6GB/s. Don't know if the motherboard supports it (SATAIII / 6GB/s)?
Thoughts? Has anyone upgraded to s SSD. Also, how/what did you use to transfer the old drive or did you just reinstall Windows 7?
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Hi,
What you are seeing is the generation 2 SATA HD attached to port 0 and the generation 1 SATA optical drive attached to port 1.
The HM55 chipset is rated for SATA II.
If you are going to buy a SSD, then look at the prices differences between SATA II and SATA III for the size that fit your pocketbook.  I did some benchmarking of SATA III devices on SATA II ports and only noticed about a 6-10% improvement compared to SATA II or SATA II. Your mileage may vary.

  • On my Macbook pro 15 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

On my Macbook pro 15, 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive.  Is that true?

That is correct. The tech specs indicate:
    Hard Drive Interface
    6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)
    Optical Drive Interface
3.0 or 6.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

  • I have a late 2011 mac book pro and I'm wondering if it uses SATA II or SATA III for the hard drive? Which eventually I'm going to replace with a SSD.

I was wondering if the late 2011 macbook pro uses SATA II or SATA III for the hard drive. The reseason I'm asking this is because some day I'm going to replace the Hard drive for a SSD drive down the road and would like to use all the performance of the SATA controler.

    SATA III.

  • Can I put a SATA 3 Solid State Drive in my Compaq Presario CQ57-447SI?

I would like to upgrade my Compaq Presario CQ57-447SI and replace the hard drive with a solid state drive.  I'm considering the OCZ-Vertex-4 2.5 inch SATA 3 Solid State Drive (128GB) but I'm not sure if this will be compatible with my notebook?

    Hi:
If a SATA II drive is a lot less, then probably yes.
    Notebook specs are very sketchy.
The chipset may be capable of SATA III transfer speeds, but HP may not have SATA III controllers on the motherboard.
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/value-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm65.html
As you can see from the specs at the link above, the chipset has 2 SATA III ports and 6 SATA II ports.
You would think that HP would hook up the primary SATA AHCI controller to one of the 2 SATA III ports, but that may not be the case.
That is the best I can do for you since I don't have your notebook and cannot confirm the speed the drive runs at.
So, if there is not much of a difference in price, I would take a gamble on the SATA III SSD.

  • What is the difference in price of MacBook Pro 13-inch:   2.9GHz750GB and  256GB solid-state drive

What is the difference in price of MacBook Pro 13-inch:   2.9GHz750GB and  256GB solid-state drive ?

go to the Store and configure all the models with upgrades but... an SSD will be fast and responsive, no noise or heat and adds $200 probably to the cost

dv6 1030us - will this motherboard support a sata2 solid state drive as the primary drive?

    Hi,
Yes, it will. You can use SATA III because all backward compatible. I believe dv6 3xxx machines use SATA II. You can check yourself using a program called PCWizard 2012.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.
If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • Best Way to Create Multiple Partitions on Macbook Air 13" 2012 solid state drive (256GB)

I just bought a Macbook Air 13" 2012 solid state drive (256GB) w/ 8GB Ram and I would like to be able to dual boot to Windows 7 and have a 3rd partition to share files between both Operating Systems. Can someone point me in the right direction, recommend partition sizes, pros and cons etc.? Should i bother with the 3rd partition or just by an external HD?

  • 1TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive

    Hi,
How do I confuger my iMac if I select the "1TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive"?
    Thanks.
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
Your new iMac will come with OSX Lion.
What you want to achieve is to have all your user accounts on the hard drive and your OS and Applications on the SSD.
The way to go about this is to create your User Account/s on the SSD. (Do not migrate your data at this point).
You will need to create a temporary User Account that you can login with, so that you can either replace or create the User Account that you want to migrate from your MacBook Pro.
Now, clone your SSD to the hard drive using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. (Migration Assistant will not migrate data to a HD without a System folder, I believe).
Bootup from the SSD, change the path to your User Account/s in System Preferences>Advanced Options. Reboot and then migrate your User Account, Applications and Settings from your MacBook Pro using Migration Assistant.
That is the configuration I have working on my MacBook Pro with dual drives, an SSD and HD.
    Good luck.

  • Xpower Sata III Setup for Boot drive

Hi again, I need help setting up my sata drive now...So far I have set sata 6gbs controller mode to AHCI.
Verfied the Marvell bios recognized my drive correctly and installed windows. Was I supposed to change anything
in the marvell bios(Virtual Disk? Assuming that is for 2 drives for raid)? Now I need to install the drivers for them. Should I install any other drivers first (Chipset, Lan, etc)? Also should I download them from msi or marvell? One thing in the manaual threw me off "Important: Only when you set the "AHCI" mode in the integrated Perpheral menu of mainboard bios setup, you have to install the raid drivers for the sata devices"? What exactly do they mean? Then it goes on to show how to install the drivers for bootable raid array. I kinda get the impression I was supposed to install the drivers via a disk as I was installing windows? Do I need to start over?

well my Marvell controller recognizes my drives, it will let me install windows on them.  but i have no option at in the msi bios that would allow me to select on of these disks for a boot drive.  my only bootable options are on the sata ii ports.  i have tried my ocz sold 3 ssd, my 10k velociraptor, and a 2tb seagte data drive.  no option to boot from them.  and when i boot from my dvd drive to install windows, when i come to the prompt to customize my install, windows tells me that i can not install windows on this drive because the controller is disabled please go into your bios to enable the controller to properly boot and install windows.
this is obviously and issue with the motherboard itself.  at no point and time have i ever had the option to boot from the sata iii controller.  ive owned this mobo for just under a year.

    UPDATE
After several months of procrastination due to frustrated troubleshooting, I'm finally up and running.
    Long Story Short,
Finally figured out how to update the firmware but still experienced the crash/eject/drive mounting error.
After two instant messanger communications with SanDisk support, they agreed to take back my SSD Ultra 240, and for my trouble they replaced it with the SanDisk Extreme 240.
(I honestly don't know what the difference is between the two)
Still I needed to update the firmware on my new drive, which again was a big hassle, but after burning a new disc per their instructions (refer to my previous link) and attempting to update on my MacPro (2008 8-Core), and then successfully on my MacBook Pro (2008?), I was able to update the firmware.
Conclusion, avoid SanDisk for a Mac machine.  OCZ and Crucial SSD's all worked out of the box.
Now that I have all three 240 SSD's working, I'll keep you posted if any cause further difficulties.

  • Toshiba Qosmio x770 - there is no SATA connector in the 2nd drive bay.

I called Toshiba tech support and spoke with shekinah in the phillipines about this issue.  She told me the same thing 5 times over and over in the span of the 2 hour call. I asked to talk to her supervisor or the "lead tech" she kept talking about.  She flat out refused.  She kept telling me that I just need to plug in a 2nd hard drive.  I explained again that this is impossible as there is no cable of any kind or an sata connector.  With the x505 version you needed to purchase a seperate 2nd hard drive cage but the sata connector was there. There is a picture attached that shows what I mean.  I looks like the part is a tiny laptop ribbon cable that would connect above the primary hard drive and then terminate at an sata connector that you screw down right before the primary hard drive.  Looks like there might be some sort of hard drive cage required for it too.
Is there a way to purchase just the ribbon cable and sata adapter so I can add my own 2nd hard drive???
I would be willing to buy a 2nd hard drive with an included cable/sata adapter if it's not insanley expensive.  I would obviously rather not do this.
There is no email that I can find for toshiba tech support and the phillipens call center is not worth calling.

You might find some help by reading the following:
Go to "Toshiba Forums" and scroll down to "Satellite Laptops::all others" open it and find the "Subject", "Second internal Hard drive P775----" with 1040+ Views (Note there are two listings on this subject). It should make for interesting reading.

  • [Simple question] MSI GT780DX 406US supports SATA III? (for new OCZ ssd)

     Question:
I have read the specs and could not find anything who says is compatible with SATA 3.
I want to buy this SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227727
But im not spending this much without sure it will work properly.
     Can any1 gimme a light?
ps: whats the better SSD i can buy for 280$?
    thank you!!

Unfortunately i have bad news i asked before msi and they said that didn't know about it.and i got some information about chipset from here
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm67.html?wapkw=hm67
Serial ATA (SATA) 6 Gb/s and 3 Gb/s:High-speed storage interface supporting up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to six SATA ports with up to two ports supporting 6 Gb/s transfer rates.
As you see unfortunately the two port is for USB 3.0 because on data sheet there is no info about usb 3.0 so that means two sata 3 ports are for usb 3.0
that is bad :( i didn't try that but it seems bad...:(
