Toshiba Satelitte C655-S5132 freezes at welcome screen

Hi
I am having trouble getting my Toshiba Satelitte to get past the welcome screen.  It is getting hung up on the welcome screen after I put in my password.  It just never loads and I end up with a black screen.
I tried using the System Repair Disk  to do a system repair that came with  the system but the repair disk stops after a little while and displays the message : ... Unspecified error Ox8000ffff and asks me to try again using a different restore point.  I try a different restore point and I get the same error message.  After several attempts of trying to get a restore point, I gave up trying to use the system repair disk.
I am not sure what to try next.  Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi Jerry:
Yes, I do have that disk.  I am just not sure which option I need to try next.  The system restore option did not work.  Start up repair did not find an issue. After running start up repair I get the message: "if you have recently attached a device to this computer such as a camera or portable music player remove it and restart your computer.... but there are no devices attached.
My disk has some slightly different wording but perhaps they are the same:
My disk has the following options in this order:
1. Start up repair (did not have any effect on issue)
2. system restore (after 7 tries with different restore points no luck)
3. system image recovery (have not tried this yet)
4. Windows memory diagnostic
5. Command Prompt
6. Toshiba recovery wizard (which asks for more disks that I do not have)
I am just not sure which is the best course to take from here.

  • Windows 7 x32 freezing at welcome screen

    Hi,
I've got an image which is currently deployed around the workplace. Recently we updated the server to ZCM 11.1 and therefore I updated the agent on the previous image, recaptured and redeployed.
I've noticed after a few weeks there are random issues occurring such as the Welcome screen freezing up. Now this did not occur on the same image, different ZCM agent version, but it is occurring now with ZCM agent 11.1. I've got all the latest updates from MS and Novell (updated Novell Client as well) but when users log into a room of 30 computers, a third of the room's computers will freeze up. Powercycling the computer and then attempting to login a second time will generally work OK.
I've gone around and logged in myself to each computer and I had a few freezing up. Eventually I got to a point where it would log in without a hitch. Two days later, staff are complaining of the computers freezing up.
I've looked through Event Viewer but did not find anything out of the ordinary. The workstations do have a DLU applied but users are set to administrators so that doesn't seem to be affecting it I don't think.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues or something similar? Any ideas on what could be causing it?

    good to hear
We have 11.1 and i experience random "logon delays" - maybe not connected to the case you described:
    * happends very seldom (1 out of 20 or 30 logons)
the logon delay of ca. 30 seconds happens after succesful novell login and before windows logon takes over and shows the "[rotating circle] welcome"
it seems like a timeout with the Zen Agent. Hope i will not see it with 11.2

  • C655-S5132 FREEZES

    Hello!
I've had this laptop (Satellite C655-S5132)  for quite a while now and it's pretty old. It has all it's original hardware. Recently, I did a full system wipe of everything on this laptop (because it was so slow it would take a minute to change the font or font size on Word) and reinstalled Windows 7 on it. This laptop currently doesn't have that much on it because I want it to remain faster than it was because I know it doesn't have that much power and I don't want to overexert it again.
Anyways this is quite a new thing but whenenver I am watching a video or skyping someone the computer freezes! And the only way to get out of it is to do a force reboot. I don't understand what is happening and I would like someone to help me out?
Thank you very much in advance for your time!

We need to be able to test quickly whether or not the condition exists.
I can watch any video and it's guranteed to freeze on me.
So you cannot run the attached MPG file, right? (You need to unzip it first.)

  • Toshiba Satellite C655 SP4168M freezes while playing a game

So i've been having problems with mi laptop very recently with a game i'm playing (League of legends), the game normally works perfectly, but at random times it just completely freezes (making an awkward sttutering sound) and i have to forcefully shutdown and restart the PC. It doesnt happen ALL the time, but when it happens it's really annoying, and i can either happen once every week, or several times daily. I already repaired the video driver but that didnt help, i was thinking about updating the BIOS; but cant find the correct version for my laptop, and i cant even be sure that's actually the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try using a program like "Piriform Speccy" (free version), and monitor the CPU temps as you are using the system.  If it gets up into the orange and red while watching videos, you may need to apply fresh thermal paste to the CPU.
My old L355 is starting to freeze while watching youtube videos the other day, and just confirmed that the CPU is overheating.  Will be tearing it apart hopefully tonight to be cleaned up and have a fresh application of arctic silver on the CPU.

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance
    MAT

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck

  • How to improve the screen and audio quality on my Satellite c655-s5132

I recently bought a used Satellite C655-S5132 laptop.  Although this machine is designed to run on Windows 7, it came equipped with Windows XP.  The machine runs OK except for the screen which shows a distorted image and the sound which is tinny and low volume.
I suspect this is due to a software shortcoming rather than a defect in any of the hardware.  The image distortion may be due to the fact that this laptop comes with a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 6:9, whereas the Windows XP operating system that is currently installed on this laptop is set at an aspect ratio of 4:3 and doesn't allow me to switch to the other aspect ratio.
As a result, the image fills the entire screen but appears to be stretched horizontally.  As for the audio, I checked the volume settings and they are all set at their upper limit.
    I have done the following:
    1.  I did a system check which shows that there are 2 drivers that need to be updated: video controller and video controller (VGA compatible).  But when I prompt the machine to install updated drivers it gives me a failure code 28 "device not installed properly".
    2. I ran 2 driver software programs: one shows that for both video controllers "the manufacturer is unknown" and "drivers are not installed", and the second shows that the driver is installed but needs to be updated.
    3. Searched the web for the right drivers and found that for this machine running on Windows XP (32 bit), Intel produces a graphic driver, GMA 4500.
    4. I tried to download this driver from the Intel website but the installation process failed. Perhaps it failed because Toshiba has specified a custom version of this graphic driver that can only be downloaded from its own website.
    5. I searched the Toshiba website but was unable to identify the drivers for sound and image for this machine.
Could anyone help me find the right drivers on the Toshiba website that would allow me to: (i) change the setting for the aspect ratio and in doing so get rid of the image distortion, as well as improve the overal picture quality, and (ii) increase the audio volume and improve the overall sound quality?
    Thank you.

My advice is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
You can obtain recovery discs from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 71 of the User's Guide.

  • Toshiba C655-S5132 Please help

my sister has a laptop Toshiba C655-S5132 today it was fine, she closed the lid and when she reopened it it acted like it was froze up so she turned it off and back on, now it won't do anything except give her a black screen that says
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device --insert boot disk and press any key
she took the back off and unplugged the hard drive and put it back in and that didn't fix it, does anyone have any idea what has happened and how to fix this.
the startup disks that she made when she first got it says error and shuts down
    it has windows 7
    thanks
    Sherri

Can she get into the BIOS? Usually this is done by tapping F2 while booting (or sometimes holding F2). If so, is the hard drive seen?

  • Blue screen of death after ram upgrade on a Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop

I ordered an upgrade for a Toshiba Satellite C655(PSC08U-02D037) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I've trying for a month to get this to work consistently. When I first installed it, it worked fine for the first few days, but then after that I kept getting an error that would pop up "Display has Stopped Responding And Recovered" and the screen would flicker turn to black for a second. It didn't happen a lot at first, but then it got progressively worse to the point that it would crash my browsers, and sometimes when I tried to play certain videos, I would get the blue screen of death, and then the computer would have to restart.
I updated my bios, graphics drivers, I checked to see if maybe I failed to install it properly and reinstalled it, no avail. Finally I just took the ram out, and then I stopped having these issues. Which leads me to believe that it may have something to do with the memory upgrade. I ran the scanner as suggested when I was looking to upgrade, and what was recommended was a ( System 2gb DDR3-1600 Sodimm 1.35v CL11 ) ram stick part number CT6316802, which is the one I ended up ordering. I'm not sure what else to do but assume that what I ordered is either defective or just doesn't work with my laptop.

    Hi jinjoe,
I am sorry for the issues you are experiencing with your upgrade. How is this memory installed? Is it just one module or did you purchase two? Did you install it with any exisitng RAM? If you have two modules have you tried installing one module at a time? This would help us determine if the issue is with one defective memory module or both causing the issue.

  • Toshiba Satellite won't go past Toshiba welcome screen.

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was shut while running and sat overnight without power so it was basically sleeping.
In the morning, I turned it on and it froze on the Toshiba welcome screen which is the first thing you see when you start up the laptop.
The keyboard and mouse wouldn't work which didn't let me go into safe mode.
Also, the little cylinder light that indicates when the computer loads was completely on and stayed on.
    It runs on Windows XP.
And now it does this everytime I turn it on and won't go any further.
    Please help! Thanks!

The computer is not finding a boot device or files. Go into the Bios and check the Boot Priority. On most Toshiba Satellites, you either hit the Escape key or the F2 key to get into the Bios. Make sure that the first boot device is the hard drive. Often you will see this abreviated at HDD. Also make sure that the hard drive is being seen in the Bios. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios you are not going to boot into Windows. Guaranteed. If the hard drive is being seen in the Bios and is the first boot device in the Boot Priority and it is still not going beyond the Toshiba splash screen, then you have a major software problem. In that case the only option is run the Recovery CDs and see if you can reimage the hard drive. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios, this could indicate that the hard drive is not properly connected to the computer or has gone bad. In that case, you will be talking to your friendly Toshiba authorized repair center for diagnostics and repairs.

  • 5800 freeze in NOKIA welcome screen

my phone turned off and when i want to turn on it again, it freeze in its welcome screen (NOKIA) without the handshake presenting. and it took so long 'til my battery dropped again.
yeah, i had a problem same with you guys .
and what i do is remove my memory card BEFORE i turn on my handset.
voila !, it back to normal .
but, if i turn off and turn on again (memory card still inside), it just initiate the screen NOKIA without the handshake presenting.
    it drive me crazy.
what is the solution? , i don't wanna remove and insert my memory card everytime i use my phone.
    please help me guys !

I had this issue as well ... when turning my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic on, it would freeze at the Nokia start up screen.  I had installed lots of apps from the Ovi Store over a periods of a couple of months, so I cannot say which one was "to blame" for the sudden freezing.
Taking out the battery, even for hours, did not help in my case..  When I pulled out the (8Gb) MicroSD card then turned the 5800 on, it booted without a problem ... though of course I did not have access to any apps which had been installed to the MicroSD card.
Posters elsewhere have stated that in the situation described above, the problem is that the MicroSD card is corrupted, and must be reformatted.  While I'm sure that would work, I think it's a little extreme as a first step.
There is an interim step that worked for me:   try first running software (such as MS Windows' Check Disk) that can correct corrupted files on the MicroSD.  There are many ways to go about this.  I did the following (I run Windows XP on my computer).
    1) remove the MicroSD card from the Nokia 5800 (be sure to follow the instructions in your manual)
    2) insert your MicroSD into a card reader, and plug the card reader into your computer (if it's not already attached to your computer).
    >>> At this point, it's a good idea to back up the data on your MicroSD card to your computers's hard drive before you go further.
*** the rest assumes you have Windows XP ***
    3) After a few seconds, Windows XP should recognize the MicroSD card as a drive.  In my case, a dialog box called "Removable Drive E" popped up.  Your Dialog Box may have a different name. If so, substitute that name in the instructions below.
    4) Scroll down within the dialog box until you see "Open Folder to View Files using Windows Explorer", and DOUBLE-LEFT-CLICK on it.
    5) A Windows Explorer windows opens up.  RIGHT-CLICK on "Removable Drive E" and when the dialog box opens, LEFT-CLICK on "Properties"
    6) A new window opens, called "Removable Disk E Properties".  Select TAB "Tools"
    7) Inside the "Error-Checking" section on top, LEFT-CLICK on "Check Now ..."
    8) A small window called "Check Disk Removabl ..." opens.  Make sure both "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan or and attempt recovery of bad sectors" are selected, then LEFT CLICK on the Start button.
The Check Disk program will run for several minutes, and hopefully fix any corrupt sectors on your MicroSD card.
    9) When Check Disk is done, shut down all the dialog and Windows Explorer boxes, then remove the MicroSD card. IMPORTANT:  to prevent further data corruption, make sure you use the Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" utility before you physically remove the card reader and MicroSD card from your computer.
    10) Insert the MicroSD card back in your Nokia 5800, then turn on the 5800.  If Check Disk found and fixed the corrupted files, your 5800 should boot without a problem.
If after all of this your 5800 still freezes at the Nokia logo on start up, you might proceed with the card reformatting suggestions made by others.  Good luck!
    Cheers,
    Bruce

  • Satellite M35X-S109: Toshiba welcome screen comes after 13mins

    Hello,
My toshiba laptop starts up in 15mins and i am very unhappy for that reason. Problem is when i try to open my laptop power button gets blue and fan is working but Toshiba welcome screen comes in 13mins. and windows opens normally in 1.5mins and after that computer works very fine. Has anyone know the reason why Toshiba welcome screen comes very late. In my opinion it is not a hardware problem could be something else.
Please help me. I really need a support.
    Model: M35X-S109
    OS: Windows XP Prof. SP2
    Thanks...

    Hi
I agree with Lucky. Before Toshiba screen will pass the notebook checks the hardware functionality.
This is not a software issue. As mentioned you can try to update the BIOS but please be careful. If the BIOS update will nothing change then I would recommend checking the memory modules. Please remove one module for checking the second module.

  • S10E freezes at the "Welcome" screen

    Hello,
I bought a S10e a couple of days ago. The programs I installed were by no means exotic - AVG (I gave Norton a try and then removed it using Norton Removal Tool before I transferred the AVG Free offline installer from my desktop PC), Open Office, WavePad and PhotoFiltre. I noticed that windows hangs at the welcome screen from time to time and so I used the recovery program to reset everything. On the fresh copy of XP I installed AVG, MS Office, Demon tools lite and WavePad. The hangs continued I have no idea why... The only thing that comes to my mind is the fact that I don't have a wireless connection at the moment so there can be some kind of problem with some program's updater (and namely AVG's).
Any thoughts how to solve this?
P.S. I saw this thread but I think that this can be a different issue as far as the recovery program didn't help
    P.P.S. Sorry for my Engrish

    Thanks!
Today I had enough time (and access to the university's wi-fi ) to do some tests. I came to the conclusion that AVG's updater was causing the trouble. I installed Avira and now the computer seems to work fine (more than dozen restarts and no hangs so far). It's a pity for AVG (one of the best free AV solutions around), but I guess the current build causes problems on IdeaPad systems without active Internet connection. Hopefully the guys @ Grisoft will have this issue fixed as soon as possible.

  • Welcome Screen Freezes Mac 10.7.5

I downloaded the latest update to PS2014 CC a little bit ago and when I launched it it froze similar to the way Illustrator and In Design did several months ago.
With that prob I had to go to the app's icon, right click and choose "show package contents". From there I had to delete a file but have forgotten what and where it was.
Is anyone else experiencing same prob or know how to delete the conflicting file?

    Gautam,
I am having the same issues with both Photoshop  and Illustrator.
The Adobe rep helped me install the older version of Photoshop but now having the same issue with Illustrator.
Reverting to the older version is only a temporary fix and does not really seem to be the very best answer, can you offer a better solution that allows the end user to have the latest software and do away with the useless "Welcome" screen?
Yankee has the very same issue I am having. Changing up the preferences file does nothing to help. Need to delete or rename the specific file related to the welcome screen, can you offer help?
    Thanks in advance.
