Toshiba satelitte l305-s5955 warranty question

Hi,
I was having trouble finding warranty info on my particular laptop, and had one simple question with regards to it:
Does Toshiba honor their warranty if the end user replaces Windows with a Linux operating system? The reason I ask is I just bought a new laptop, and am experiencing what seems to be a hardware problem with my monitor. But I'm not quite sure at this point, and want to install a Linux OS on my computer, but don't want to risk voiding the warranty if there does end up being a problem with the monitor.
Thank you!

Like civicman stated, if you should ever send it in under warranty I can almost guarantee that they will restore the system to it's factory out of box state to test it with so you would need to re-install linux when you get it back.  If you are having some problems with it I would get those taken care of PRIOR to installing Linux if at all possible.
Installing linux will NOT void your warranty.  The problem would arise that if you call them about an issue they will more than likely require you to restore the system back to it's factory out of box state to verify that the problem is in fact a hardware issue rather than a software issue.  They also would NOT guarantee that the system would work with Linux.  My advice would be to create your Recovery Disks and then setup a Dual Boot system leaving the original WIndows still installed.  Just shrink the Windows partition down so it has 10gigs of free space then install Linux on the remaining space.  Once the warranty runs out you can delete the WIndows partitions if you don't want to use them.

We can't see your computer screen, Alice. You need to paint word pictures for us of what you see and what you are doing when you see it.
    I am not able to..
For instance, that information is useless to us because it does not tell what you see - what does happen instead.

  • Upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 on my Satellite L305-S5955...now there's no sound!

Last night I upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 and today it says I don't have a soundcard.  Out of all of computers, this is my only Vista, so I'm having trouble fixing this problem.
I tried to upgrade the drivers from the Toshiba website, but it's not a driver issue; there is no card being recognized.
So, I used the "Add New Hardware" wizard to re-add the soundcard.  Doesn't work.
I see lots of people having trouble with this.  And also, when the sound was working, it was really quiet.  I'd have to turn off the dishwasher, heat, laundry machines, etc to hear anything!
Hope someone can help me on this.

  • Toshiba Satelitte C655-S5132 freezes at welcome screen

    Hi
I am having trouble getting my Toshiba Satelitte to get past the welcome screen.  It is getting hung up on the welcome screen after I put in my password.  It just never loads and I end up with a black screen.
I tried using the System Repair Disk  to do a system repair that came with  the system but the repair disk stops after a little while and displays the message : ... Unspecified error Ox8000ffff and asks me to try again using a different restore point.  I try a different restore point and I get the same error message.  After several attempts of trying to get a restore point, I gave up trying to use the system repair disk.
I am not sure what to try next.  Any help would be very appreciated.

    Hi Jerry:
Yes, I do have that disk.  I am just not sure which option I need to try next.  The system restore option did not work.  Start up repair did not find an issue. After running start up repair I get the message: "if you have recently attached a device to this computer such as a camera or portable music player remove it and restart your computer.... but there are no devices attached.
My disk has some slightly different wording but perhaps they are the same:
My disk has the following options in this order:
    1. Start up repair (did not have any effect on issue)
    2. system restore (after 7 tries with different restore points no luck)
    3. system image recovery (have not tried this yet)
    4. Windows memory diagnostic
    5. Command Prompt
    6. Toshiba recovery wizard (which asks for more disks that I do not have)
I am just not sure which is the best course to take from here.

  • Toshiba satellite l305 HELP!!!!

Well I've had a toshiba satellite l305 and for some reason, the USB and disc tray only work every now and then. If I try to open the disc tray it just flashes an orange light, and the USB ports 70% of the time just don't work, like they're not there. I'll plug in a USB, the actual thing will let me know it's plugged into something (for example I'll plug in my Zune and it'll light up and charge) but the laptop wont recognize that it's there. No noise, and it's wont connect....any help?
the USB one is more important to me then the disc one btw.

First off we need to know the complete model number.  There are a lot of different L305 models.
In the meantime have you checked the Download Site to see if there are any Service Bulletins for your model, updated drivers, or bios files that need to be installed?

  • Toshiba Satellite L305 freezes/crashes with power adapter

    Hello everyone
My Toshiba Satellite L305 freezes/crashes when I plug AC power adapter . The laptop works fine on battery .
Initially I thought it was because the OS was getting corrupt and because I misplaced the Windows vista installation disc . I decided to install Ubuntu 11.04/linux but this hasn't solved the problem.
Then I thought maybe it was the power adapter so I bought a new power adapter and that hasn't helped as well . Finally I did some research and found some instances where this issue was seen due to the Dual Core / 2nd processor so I disabled multi-processing core to cancel the 2nd processor and annoyingly this hasn't solved the problem .
So can anyone please give me some guidance on what the problem could be ? . Thanks for taking the time to read/advice
    Keethan

I'd recommend replacing that adapter immediately.

  • Toshiba Satellite L305-S5909 - DVD ROM / CD Drive will not Run CDs

I have a Toshiba Satellite Model Name: L305-S5909 Part Number: PSLB8U-05302F running Windows Vista 64 with Service Pack 2. The Drive in my computer is, Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ88OES
I really don't know when this started but we just discovered that our DVD / CD Drive will not run any CDs or DVDs inserted. When I check My Computer or Windows Explorer the Drive shows up. Also I checked the Device Manager and it's there also. I have tried uninstalling the drive and letting Windows Reinstall it and that did not help. I have also upgraded the computer bios also no results.  And I have tried different disks, cleaning the optical eye, etc. The eject command from the computer works but will not run anything inserted.
    Any Ideas?

i had the same problem with my L505D-S5965. you are going to most likely have to replace the dvd drive. the optical eye burned out in mine and from what you have already tried to do to fix it. that is probably what happened with yours. if it is under warranty you can send it to the depot or take it to a toshiba service center near you. if not you can change it yourself.it not to hard.
    hope that helps

  • Warranty question (battery)

I bought a Toshiba Satellite (L755 series) laptop a few weeks ago. It says it has a 1-year warranty. Does this also apply to the battery. I plan to use the laptop quite a bit and I'm not sure how long the battery will last.
Incidentally, the battery life so far is about 5 hours. That's phenominal.
So, if say the battery starts losing life (say under 45 minutes on a full charge) after 9 months, would Toshiba replace it? Would it be a big hassle (my friend had that situation with his Compaq and it was a major hassle -- they wanted him to send in his computer!)
    Mel

All Toshiba notebook batteries have a 1-year-warranty. (Not a 100% sure, they may have an exception for refurbished computers.) Even if the computer has a 3-year warranty, the battery only has a 1-year warranty. Like tires and windshield wipers, batteries wear out. If the battery quits working or the performance drops to your "under 45 minutes on a full charge" within the first year, Toshiba should be willing to replace it. Toshiba has been making laptops since 1985, so you should be in good hands.

  • Satellite U300-14Q doesn't boot - warranty question

    Hello!!
I bought my laptop last may in Spain and today I couldnt boot it.
I cant start my computer, so Im really worried about it, because Im going to live in Berlin for 2 months.
Can I send my computer to any service center close to Berlin?? Or other service center in Germany even if I bought it in Spain?
I strongly need my data files that I save in my computer.
If I open the laptop and take from inside my hard disk before send it, do Ill lose the warranty??
    Thank you very much

Well, the Toshiba notebooks are covered by world wide warranty so usually the Toshiba ASP in Germany should be able to help you too.
    > If I open the laptop and take from inside my hard disk before send it, do Ill lose the warranty??
Well, the HDD is placed at the bottom of the unit and the HDD cover can be removed and you will not lose the warranty. I think more details you will get from the ASP.
But you said that your notebook doesnt boot.
    Please check if this will help you to start the notebook;
    - remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
    - wait about 30-40min and then connect both parts to the notebook
    - try to power up the notebook
If this will not help you then its time for the ASP.
    Good luck

  • Satellite P750/02L - Extended Warranty question

    Hey
I was wondering if anyone could help me about my extended warranty.
My computers recently been playing up and I need to take it back in but its past its limited warrant and I have lost track of my extended warranty.
I have a Laptop Satellite P750/02L. I remember registering for the extended warranty on the Mytoshiba.com.au website but can't find a copy of it saying that it has the 2 year warranty and I was wondering where I could find it.
I really hope someone can help me.

    Hi
Get in contact with Toshiba service center in your country Australia and they should be able to check if your notebook is covered by warranty:

  • Headphone warranty question

When requesting service for headphone replacement, do I need to sent both my Iphone and headphones to UPS or just the phone?

You take the machine to get repaired at http://www.apple.com/uk/buy/ locations which are authorized service centers. If you are planning on selling the machine, be sure to follow these tips I've written up:
    http://www.macmaps.com/selling.html
In some cases, there are some repair shops which do work for less than Apple that have a good reputation:
    http://www.dttservice.com/
    http://www.powerbookresq.com/
    http://www.microdocusa.com/
    http://www.macspecialist.com/
    http://www.techrestore.com/
Some of these will repair machines from the U.K. as well.
Also note, if your machine is under 1 year old, it is still under a hardware warranty. If you had bought AppleCare, you might still have coverage on your hardware for 3 years from the date you purchased your computer, but you would have had to buy it in the first year to get that coverage. Many of these questions can be answered by AppleCare representatives. Now if the damage was caused because you dropped the machine, normally that is not something covered, or obviously damaged yourself. That's when you have to pay out of pocket for the parts and labor yourself even if it is under AppleCare. AppleCare usually makes the final determination of whether or not it is something they can cover. So I suggest calling them at least to see what the cost will be.

  • Battery issue and warranty question

I bought my macbook pro in Dec 2007 and really love it. Fancy interface, easy usage. And after almost a year in Nov 2008, my battery went bad. Only last for 45 minutes, I check my serial and it said I'm still under warranty so I went to the nearest apple store which is in Glendale Galleria and got a free replacement battery without any problem.
Things went well until now, my macbook pro appeared to be shutdown automatically within 10 minutes of usage eventhough I still have like 90% left. I tried everything but still.
My question is, will I get a free replacement battery again ? I know that my warranty is over, but this battery I got from last Nov, so it is not even a year old. Will it work out or I have to buy a new battery ?

Unfortunately there's no one here that can answer that question. This is a user-to-user discussion forum. As all service issues are handled on a case-by-case basis by Apple there are two people that can assist you further:
1.) The agent that picks up the phone when you call (800) APL-CARE
2.) The Genius at the Apple Retail Store that sees you for your appointment
That's the next step at this point, we can speculate here till we're blue in the face.
