Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155 on 2.6.28 won't boot without acpi=off

Without acpi=off, it freezes at this:
pci 0000:02:02.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0003)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] enabled at IRQ 11
PCI: setting IRQ 11 as level-triggered
pci 0000:02:02.0: PCI INT A -> Link[LNKC] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11
With acpi=off, I get this:
pci 0000:02:02.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0003)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] enabled at IRQ 11
PCI: setting IRQ 11 as level-triggered
pci 0000:02:02.0: PCI INT A -> Link[LNKC] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11
pci 0000:02:02.0: setting latency timer to 64
pci 0000:02:04.0: power state changed by ACPI to D0
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKA] enabled at IRQ 11
(rest of boot goes here)
lspci tells me that's the cardbus:
02:02.0 CardBus bridge [0607]: Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller [104c:ac50] (rev 01)
But even if I remove cardbus support from the kernel, it still freezes. I enabled ACPI debugging. No extra output.

I'm also having to post this from elinks because X won't start (or locks the term), but one problem at a time. lol
Does anyone know what else I can do to debug this. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.

  • Toshiba Satellite P870 upgraded to Win 8.1 does not boot

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870 with Win 8 preinstalled. Soon after upgrade to Win 8.1 and basically successful removal of “watermark error” (secure boot activated) the machine stopped booting completely: after pressing the power button ventilator sound
is heard with periodically changing loudness as well as clicking sound from the speakers. The screen stays black. Attempts to start the PC through pressing F2 or zero buttons did not produce any result. Neither did I succeed with recovery discs I created before:
the system simply does not boot from the disk. It looks like I tried all options offered by Microsoft and Toshiba. I would be happy to roll back to factory settings.
Could someone give me hint what to do next?

    Hi,
For the issue, let us know how to remove the “watermark error".
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you could access the BIOS.
I suggest you update the BIOS version to test it.
If you want to repair the startup issue, you should use windows 8.1 recovery discs or installation discs.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access the BIOS, it may be caused by hardware, I suggest you contact the Toshiba manufacturer for further help.

  • Satellite A300 Won't boot after powering off during BIOS upgrade

    Hi,
I was trying to upgrade the BIOS after reading an alert from TOSHIBA TEMPRO, after some time, it didn't seem to launch so I ran it a second time, then both BIOS application showed up in the taskbar only and it froze while I didn't start upgrading or anything, I had to power off.
I tried to reboot but now, it just stays on black screen ( the monitor isn't even powered, as if the system wasn't running ), all leds are powered with the "accessing hard disk" flashing, the led from the DVD reader keeps on flashing while making a noise every 3 seconds or so.
I've read on the forum that there may be no solutions but to take it to an authorized service provider, but I'm willing to take any possible solution before doing it.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Alex.

Yes I did. Thank you. In my case I had to borrow the USB diskete but I was lucky to get to it!.
The problems with the BIOS update are that there is no enough information about how to do the process. I found some important information after corrupting the BIOS while it should be available with the download archive. Also in my case the program started updating BIOS without prompting or anything and couldn't react to prepare everything on time. I could see this happens a lot. There may be a problem with that software because I heard people saying that everything seemed to work fine but then it didin't start up.
The worst thing was that local support service wanted me to change the whole motherboard and then paying a lot for removing one of the passwords saying always that there was no other option even when it seemed they knew that wasn't true! I'm a upset with them.

  • Toshiba Satellite won't go past Toshiba welcome screen.

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was shut while running and sat overnight without power so it was basically sleeping.
In the morning, I turned it on and it froze on the Toshiba welcome screen which is the first thing you see when you start up the laptop.
The keyboard and mouse wouldn't work which didn't let me go into safe mode.
Also, the little cylinder light that indicates when the computer loads was completely on and stayed on.
    It runs on Windows XP.
And now it does this everytime I turn it on and won't go any further.
    Please help! Thanks!

The computer is not finding a boot device or files. Go into the Bios and check the Boot Priority. On most Toshiba Satellites, you either hit the Escape key or the F2 key to get into the Bios. Make sure that the first boot device is the hard drive. Often you will see this abreviated at HDD. Also make sure that the hard drive is being seen in the Bios. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios you are not going to boot into Windows. Guaranteed. If the hard drive is being seen in the Bios and is the first boot device in the Boot Priority and it is still not going beyond the Toshiba splash screen, then you have a major software problem. In that case the only option is run the Recovery CDs and see if you can reimage the hard drive. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios, this could indicate that the hard drive is not properly connected to the computer or has gone bad. In that case, you will be talking to your friendly Toshiba authorized repair center for diagnostics and repairs.

  • Toshiba Satellite L650-07U, Hard disk failure and replacement

    Hi all,
I have Toshiba Satellite L650-07U Laptop, Model: PSK1EC-0700Q with 4GB RAM, 650GB HD, Windows 7 Home Premium installed. At the time of first use, i made Recovery DVDs which took 4 blank DVDs using Recovery media creator.
From 2 weeks it is giving problem, at start its slowdown with every application,  then suddenly it started Hard disk failure error and ask to backup important files. From that instant i did all my backup save in another portable Hard drive.
I had hiren boot CD, and ran RAM test and found it OK, and then run Hard Disk test and found few bad sectors at few certain point, As 650GB Hard disk was taking alot time of time for checking bad sectors, so i stopped that application.
First I tried Recovery DVDs to restore Windows, but it failed as Laptop DVD-Writer was unable to boot from those created DVDs (DVDs are OK as had checked it on Desktop computer DVD-ROM), Laptop DVD-Writer is also working as I test few more bootable CDs and it booted perfectly, but it is not booting from Recovery DVDs.
Than i tried to restore from Recovery partition using Factory restore settings, it erases all data and reinstall new and fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. It works fine for few hours than again pops up Hard Disk Failure message again and again. I searched here in Toshiba Forum and have found similar problem with other members and finally decided that it need to replace Hard Disk with new one. As It is now two and a half month old, thats why i need to buy new Hard Disk for my Laptop.
I checked all partitions of drive using Hiren Boot CD, and had found that there are four default partitions in Toshiba original laptop drive,
One hidden partition of 1.5 GB
One hidden partition of almost 21 GB
One hidden partition of almost 12 GB
One partition of 561 GB, which was the original partition where windows 7 was installed along with all of my Data.
Now I want to replace faulty drive with a new one and have a lot of question in my mind which I need to share with you guys.
At the time of first use I installed Windows 7 64 bit edition, and made Recovery DVDs, and at second time of restore to factory setting I had installed Windows 7 32 bit. I have confusion about recovery DVDs (which is not booting from default DVD-Writer of Laptop), either it has 64 Bit recovery data or 32 bit? Or have both 64 and 32 bit Data.
Toshiba restore to factory setting without using any recovery DVD/USB is the best possible way to restore Windows 7, How can I make same recover hidden partitions from original/faulty hard drives to new hard drive partitions? Is this possible and how?
On Default hard drive there was one partition of 561GB instead of two or more partitions. Is this possible to split partitions in new hard drives instead of one big partition?
As Recovery DVDs are not able to boot from laptop default DVD-Writer, is it possible to open those DVDs on another System and copy tem in USB drive and use it for booting? If it is possible than please show me the steps for making bootable USB from these Recovery DVDs.
    Thanks,
    masterleous

This site is for US computers. I doubt you'll get your questions for that Canadian model answered here.
There appear to be two recovery partitions. Maybe one for 32- and one for 64-bit Windows. Or maybe one is for English and the other for French.
Your User's Manual isn't much help either. You probably need to ask Toshiba tech support in Canada.
About all I have to offer is this: Be wary of drives with advanced-format technology. See my message about that.

The main concern right now for me is to get my personal data and files from the computer. I still have other computer to use, so I am not so worried about start up the computer. I want to find out a way to first back up my personal data and files from the computer to an external devices, then try to fix the computer. Thank you.

The main concern right now for me is to get my personal data and files from the computer.
Yes, that's exactly what you should do first. Later we'll try to resurrect Windows. This is my favorite way nowadays.
     1. Prepare a thumb drive formatted in FAT32. It doesn't need to be large. This stuff only occupies 130 MB on mine.
    2. Download UNetbootin to create the thumb drive.
    3. Download a Puppy Linux .iso file for the operating system.
    4. Run Unetbootin-windows-xxx.exe and point it to the Lupu-xxx.iso file to create a bootable drive.
    5. When you power on your computer, hold down the F12 key. That should give you the opportunity to choose the boot drive.
    6. For some tips, scroll down to the following sections at this web page.

  • Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320 recovery help!

All the pc does is go to the Toshiba Splash screen, and then a blue screen that says "Recovery your PC needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accesed. Error code: 0x0000185.
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media contact your system administrator or PC manufactuer."  I have tried resetting the firmware and also holding down 0 like Toshiba instructs. However, after I select yes to get into the HDD recovery, the screen flashes white and then goes right back to the same recovery screen no matter what I do. It's very irritating when I can't even get recovery to work -___-. Someone please help me out? I don't have any recovery disks, etc.

To restore your laptop back to it's "ORIGINAL FACTORY SPECS" you must 1st access "Boot Options" on your Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320, or similar model & here's what worked for me. Start the laptop while tapping the "F12" key. This will open your boot options menu. At the very bottom of the list is an option called "HDD Recover"...click on it if you want to be able to access your "Advance System Recovery Options" where you'll be given new options allowing you to restore your laptop back to it's original factory specs. Please don't forget to give me "Kudos" by clicking onto my Kudos button next to my post if my solution was able to help you in any way...thanks.~: )  (((A+ Discount Computer Repair, Alb, NM)))

  • Memory upgrade on Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1NL

I bought the Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1NL from argos yesterday. It came with 4GB of RAM. I want to upgrade it to 8GB. Can anybody help with upgrading process. Also will upgrading the RAM void the warranty.
    Regards
    SD

Im not L50-B owner but I guess there is no separate access to the memory modules at the bottom of the unit.
    Right?
In such case its necessary to remove the bottom plastic cover and this will definitely void the warranty!!!
If you want to keep the warranty valid, dont upgrade the RAM by yourself.
This must be done by authorized service engineer.

  • Toshiba Satellite L555 freezing up! (Tech Head Challenge) Please Help!

It's been happening lately. My Toshiba Satellite(windows 7 home permium 64 bits) has been freezing up with multiple, thin, multi-colored lines with a noise similar to when a sound track on a CD sticks or freezes and no mouse response or any kind of response at all. I have to press and hold the power botton and force it to shut down. I noticed it does this more often when I try to play a video game, virus scan, video call on Skype and less frequently on youtube (youtube might just be a coincidence). Sometimes after the computer restarts and I virus scan or Skype then I have no problems. I think it happens when I virus scan or skype when I have both multiple firefox and google chrome windows open at once but I cannot be sure. I've tested the theory a few times but it's inconclusive however I am confident that virus scans or video game are most likely to trigger the freeze even if they are the only thing I have open on the screen.
Sometimes I get that message in the blue box that says "Windows is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer....." The strange thing is that after I force it to shut down if I try to restart it immidiately then it will boot. All the lights will come on except the orange one in the left hand corner, the screen does not come on and windows does not load. If I leave it for 30  minutes or sometimes less after it crashed then it will restart .The funny thing is that I had this problems about 8 months ago when I tried playing a video game called A.V.A. About 2 minutes into play it would freeze with the same noise I mentioned earlier.I repeatedly tried to play the game and it happened every single time and everytime I force shut down the laptop and try to restart it right after then windows will not load and the orange light does not come on. I removed the game and reinstalled it and I never had that problem again.Since I got the laptop it has randomly restarted like 4 times and I've had it for about 1 year and 2 months but now it is just freezing up (mostly) or I get that message in the blue box. At around April of this year the game stopped working. I keep getting error reports when I try to reinstall it and my windows no longer recongnized the digital signature of the company that made the game.
I'm not sure if it's overheating,I have a hard drive or motherboard problem or if it's a software problem. I've tried:
    System Restore
    Defrag
    Disc Clean up
Non of these have helped. I've also tried using SeaTool for Windows to try to look for errors in my hard drive and it has not found any. I've also done that thing where Windows, with the black screen and white text, check through your files for errors and corrupted stuff but that report says that it hasn't found any errors at all. My computer has no slow down in performance that I can notice. It doesn't take long to start up nor does it take long to shut down. I don't get random error reports or anything like that. It works fine except for the freezing bit.
The fan seems to be working just fine and the latop doesn't get that hot. Sometimes it freezes when it's barely warm to the touch and other times it would be significantly warmer but it would not freeze even if I have multiple firefox and googlechrome windows open. Before all of this when my game was working I use to play for hours with the exhaust at the side significantly heating up the desk and the computer would run perfectly without problems except that brief period I mentioned earlier where the game froze 3 minutes in to actually playing the game, reinstalled it and solved the problem. Yesterday it froze on me while I was on skpye and today it froze on me about 5 minutes after windows log in on youtube without the computer getting hot, just barely warm. I just don't get it!
I've try using a vaccum to clean the vents without opening the computer. I've removed and reinserted my memory just incase they were loose and I've also removed and reinserted the hard drive to be sure that it was in properly and that has not stopped the problem either.
N.B. I did do a virus scan with a trial version of Kaspersky Pure that I installed less than a month ago and it does say that I have a virus called "virus heur trojan.script.iframer" and a medium and high risk events. I've tried to remove or quarantine them but nothing happens and when I scan again with Kaspersky Pure or Kaspersky Virus removal tool they find no viruses BUT the trojan report is still there with the option of removing and quanrantine.
As I've said before I've seen no slow down in performance and it works just fine except for the freezing and the blue box message. The only noticeable problem is that both firefox and googlechrome have been just a little, little bit buggy in that sometimes I would have to close down a window and reopen it again because the pages were not loading but that's only on Facebook and a few other websites and I thnk that's because of my internet connection. As I said, I've gotten no random error reports, not from windows 7 or my browser.
    Please help!

It sounds sort of like it could be related to overheating, but on the other hand, you specifically said that it doesn't always feel warm. If you're okay with backing up your files, you might want to perform a full recovery back to factory default conditions. At that point, you'd at least know whether it was due to hardware or software.

  • ITunes will not start on my Toshiba Satellite Computer

I have installed Itunes 10.2.2 to my new Toshiba Satellite computer and when I open it I get an error message that says, "QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run ITunes. Please uninstall Itunes and reinstall. I've done this about 6 times and keep getting same message. HELP PLEASE!!!

This thread is behaving very strangely!
Anyway I am around on and off today.
    First can you confirm that:
    \\fumc40\winacs\ASCNET
is the the location that you cannot reach. I am guessing that refers to network drive at work, is that so?
Assuming that we need to move \\fumc40\winacs\ASCNET to the end of path, after quicktime.
Here are some instructions to get started. I will only take you up to the point where you can do the editing, don't try and change anything yet. I want to be sure it in necessary and that you can find the right place to do it.
You need to be in an Administrator account or be ready to enter an admin password when asked
    First create a restore point:
You only need to do this before you do the actual editing, not this trial run.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-restore-point
Right Click on Computer and select Properties
    Select Advanced System Settings>>Advanced tab
    Click on Environment Variables
Find Path in the lower box headed System Variables
    Select Path then press Edit...
An Edit box will open allowing you to edit Path.
This is as far as I want you to at this stage, don't try and edit, just cancel. I just want know you can get here.

  • How do I hook up the audio on Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 to TV

I have a Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 notebook and I am trying to get the notebook audio to play out my Insignia™-(22" Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LED-LCD HDTV-NS-22E450A11) TV.  The only connection I could see working to stream video to the TV from the notebook was with a RGB to RGB cable.  That worked for the picture, but not the sound.  I bought an audio cable with one end that fits the headphone out hole on my computer and the other end has r RCA plugs that fit into the red and white audio holes on the TV.   The cables and the TV are color coded with  red and white plugs and everything seemed to fit properly, but sound will not come out on the TV. I am wondering if anyone out there with a L555D also has an Insignia Tv and can tell me how to hook up the audio.  Also, I read that the RGB cable is provides the lowest quality picture.  Is thee a better way to hook up the video?  I would appreciate any information anyone can share !  Thanks, Cindy

     Hi
I looked at the specs for your laptop and there is no HDMI out port for this model but RGB & Headphones out jack should work. Here is the link for closeup views of the ports.

  • Multiple Problems with Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 laptop??

    Hi,
We purchased the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 laptop at Best Buy about a week ago.  However, we seem to be having multiple problems with it, that I wouldn't have expected from a brand new Toshiba.
    Problems:
Whenever I'm in Mozilla Firefox browser, it crashes 90% of the time.  Firefox was always my favorite on our previous computer, and still is, I just can't use it because it continually crashes.
In Outlook, whenever I try to open a message or reply, or basically any general command, it pops up an error message that says, "Could not install the custom actions," and then does whatever I'd wanted it too.  It's a pain, as we do a lot of email and calendar through Outlook.
In Outlook, when I tried to import our Contacts, it says that we do not have the appropriate permissions to access the files.  We are the only user account on this computer.  We don't do seperate ones for each family member; we just turn on the PC.
It seems to me like the internet crawls on this computer.  Every time we try to play a video (e.g. ABC, CNN, Youtube), it won't buffer.  It just stops and starts all throughout the video about every 3 seconds.  HUGE nuisance.  We watch a lot of videos.
Minor issue:  In Firefox, before it has crashed that is, on my old computer I used to be able to type "cnet" without the quotes into the address bar, and it would take me to www.cnet.com.  If it couldn't find the page, it would take me to my default search engine's page (Yahoo) with the search results.  On this one, if I type anything into the address bar (like search terms/keywords) it bring up search results with a My Start Incredimail search engine.  I want my Yahoo search engine, and I want it to find the page if it can.
I cannot seem to get the Aero Flick (I think) to work.  That was one of the main things I was looking forward to, but I can't figure out how to do it.
It seems to me like the Windows Explorer freezes a lot.
There have been multiple times when I'm typing that the keys don't work.  Like I would have to press the A key about 10 times to get it to show up on the screen once.  It's hit and miss and doesn't do it all of the time.
This isn't a problem - just a question.  Is it best to leave the computer plugged in all of the time if it's stationary?  Or once it's fully charged, should I unplug it and let the power run down, and then re-charge it?
**CLARIFICATION:  It's not Outlook Express, it's Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.  The one that you have to pay for.  Surely it works with 7, considering it's Microsoft?!?!
If you can help me answer any of these problems/questions, I would really appreciate it.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Yes, everything was fine with Firefox.  However, I have uninstalled it, and am just using Internet Explorer for now.
    Thanks for battery info...
I'm well within the return window, but overall really like the laptop.  I've put a lot of time into it, and just want it to work right if possible.
    Thanks for the info.
ScottinFla wrote:Concerning Firefox, have you checked your add-on list for any faulty plug-ins or extensions? Try disabling them and see what happens. Also, that search engine you mentioned may have somehow been installed on your machine. Have you checked the "Manage search engines..." window available from the search bar? Check your add-ons as well. You could always reinstall Firefox from scratch.
As for the battery, it may not be best to continually run down the battery - followed by a long charge. Once a month or so should be fine. Otherwise, just try to give the battery some exercise every now and then.
Are you still within the return window? Your unit may have a bad install, some bad RAM, or...
I have the same model and it works just fine.

  • How to tell if Firewire 400 or 800? In any OS and this laptop: Toshiba Satellite A350D - BA3.

    Hello.
I was wondering how someone can tell the difference between Firewire 400 and 800 in their computer and in this model of Toshiba laptop: Toshiba Satellite A350D - BA3?
If a person looked in device manager or something would it say? With Usb it says Enhanced when it is usb2 compared to usb1. I don't know what usb3 says, I don't have it.
With firewire there is large sizes and small. On my laptop it is a mini firewire and it looks like a 4-pin inside. On the toshiba.ca site, in the product specs, it only says firewire.
I am planning on buying a cord that has a large connection on one end and a small connection size at the other end. Eg: Some cables for firewire are a 4-4pin, 6-4pin, 6-6pin, 9-4pin,9-6pin,9-9pin. There are also firewire 400 to 800 adapters. I'd like to buy the right cord for an external enclosure I bought to connect to the small laptop firewire port. The enclosure is a Vantec NexStar 3, 3.5" enclosure, usb2, eSATA, Firewire a/b. It has two firewire b ports in back, but an included cord converts b-a (the a is still to big for the laptop firewire).
Does anyone know if any of the mini ports are as fast as the larger ports? Will a 9-pin firewire 800 cable converting to a mini connection go at the mini connections speed if it is only firewire 400, I don't think it can force full F800 speed?
    Thanks.
