Toshiba Satellite A110-103 bootup problem

Hi,
I have had this laptop for a while know but the thing just broke down on me a few weeks ago.
I never had a password set on the bios or computer bootup.
But now it asks for it, the thing is out of waranty so i tried some things myself.
Shorting out the battery to reset the bios did not seem to work, it did show me a error message though.
0251 system cmos checksum bad - default configuration used
error
0280 previous boot incomplete default configuration used
No idea if its related to the problem, but that is as far as it goes.
Pressing F1 to continue or F2 to enter bios just asks for the password again.
So my main question, is it fixable if so what costs would i be looking at.
And ofcourse any other ideas how to fix it.

Yes.
Take a look at this document
Document ID: 98082632http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ct=SB&soid=2232649&ref=EV
On the bottom of the document it says Toshiba will cover the cost until December 2010.

  • Satellite A110-103 - 2GB RAM - gaming performance tuning - SOLUTION

    Hello,
For those of you who have 2Gb RAM installed on laptop and want to play games like FEAR2-PROJECT ORIGIN this is a performance tuning that I tested on my Toshiba Satellite A110-103!
If you want to add 2Gb of RAM or more to your laptop please read [this post and my experience with RAM upgrades|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=153005#153005]! It might help you save money!
Before having installed 2Gb RAM I used to have a 4096 Paging File set in Windows for C drive.
After I installed the 2GB RAM I wanted to play FEAR2-Project Origin at low settings.
However the game played horrible with low framerates. So I wanted to know if there is a way to disable Virtual memory(paging file) and only use real RAM.
Most threads regarding disabling paging files stated that there is no way or point in doing that!
Well I decided to give it a try!
I disabled paging file from *Start->Control Panel->System ->Advanced->Performance->Settings->Advanced->Virtual memory->Change->No paging file*. I rebooted my laptop and after the reboot in my case I could see the big difference in speed!
TEST: I opened FEAR2-Project Origin started to play and my character's movements where much more responsive and without lags! :D
Conclusion: In my case disabling Virtual Memory(Paging file) really boosted my gaming experience! And I play on a ATI X200M card with 256Mb shared memory!
Test this and if you get good results please post them here! I
    Best regards,
    Marius Gigi

    Hi Marius
    Thanks for this message
Usually the paging file should help you to increase the RAM performance
Usin the page file, the data which should be stored in RAM would be moved to HDD and therefore a parts of RAM would be free
However, thanks for this feedback and your observations!

  • Satellite A110 Upgrade - Xpress 200M problem, lost Toshiba software

I own Toshiba Satellite A110-110. After using this laptop for a two years with pre-installed system, CPU and RAM I have decided to upgrade it. So, I change Celeron M410 for a Core Duo T2450, 60 GB HDD for a 250 GB HDD and 512 MB RAM for a 2 GB RAM and Windows XP HE for a Vista Business.
Installation of all parts and software went fine. Then, I downloaded and installed drivers for Vista. So what is wrong you might ask?
An ATI Xpress 200M, which could get from RAM up to 256 MB for graphic on Windows XP, now, with Vista, this graphic card in control panel displays only 128 MB obtained (shared) memory. What is more, there is no option to change settings and have that old 256 MB. Maybe someone knows the solution?
As the second main problem after upgrading my personal system is total lost of all Toshiba utilities like Connectivity Doctor, Wireless LAN search (transparent oval radar hide on the right side of screen with other options), SRS WOW Sound panel and other which were in based configuration.
Vista doesn't display anything though I put to the system some of it. If anyone can help to solve this problem and has knowledge where I can get that kind of software please give me a tip, and write what kind of idea you are able to share.
    Thank you for any help!!!

Thanks Homer for your answer. I went to link which you have send me. Once again I downloaded all drivers for A110 with Vista from Toshiba Support Website. When I have started installing those drivers, during the process, some of drivers couldn't be installed because of lack of appropriate software. As I stated in first post, I don't have any pre-installed Toshiba software which were included to A110 at the beginning (with XP, manufacturer configuration). Drivers and software offered by Toshiba via its website contain rather updates than basic and full software which can be downloaded and installed on any Toshiba laptop. So, here we go again to the beginning. Moreover, even if some of software were installed succesfully I still can't use Connectivity tool (that oval radar for searching available wireless intenet), I can't see and set SRS Wow sound panel beacuse there is no any set window to do this. Well, maybe they are not compatible with Vista and there is no possibility to see and use them like before (with XP). What do you think about it?

  • Satellite A110 does install from recovery disk but HDD not displayed

    Hi guys,
after searching the net I've finally found a forum in which I hope you can help me.
I've tried to search this forum for an anwser but couldn't find it.
I have a toshiba satellite a110 -159 which after a sudden stop didn't boot up.
chkdsk did discover a lot of problems when I connected the hard drive to another pc, but the laptop still couldn't boot from the disk.
anyways, I copied the most important data and remounted the disk in the laptop. with the product recovery discs I managed to reinstall windows xp media center installation, but after the first reboot, the laptopt didn't find the hard disk, it is not displayed in the bios.
strange though that the recovery discs did install... anyone knows how to relist the hard disk in the bios? it was listed there before the reinstall of windows xp mc... :( so it's like it did something with the bios or so.
hope you guys know what's wrong with this one.
    thnx in advance!
    Edit:
the disk is accessible when placed in another system or desktop system with convertor, and copies and works just fine.

    I've solved it
opened the laptop and shortened the battery located on the motherboard (couldn't detach it because it was soldered).
the short reset the bios and it found the disk again
very weird though, but it works all fine now.
hope this helps anyone else if they got the same :)

  • Satellite A110-293 Windows will not boot up. ntoskrnl. No recovery CD

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-293 with Windows XP. I upgraded to Vista a few months ago. One day I turned on my laptop and got the following error message:
+"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:+
+1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.+
    +2. Choose your language......+
    +3. Click "Repair your computer"+
+If you do not have the disc, contact your system administartor or computer manufacturer for assisstance.+
    +File ntoskrnl.exe+
    +Ststus: 0xc0000098+
+Info: Windows failed to load because a required file is missing, or corrupt+
I do *not* have my original CDs or Vista upgrade DVD, since I'm overseas for a few months.
I tried to get a Recovery CD through the website (https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/serial.aspx), but it stated:
+"For your device no recovery medium can be ordered, because it comes either not from the region of Toshiba Europe, or it is too old for this service. "+
    HELP!

    Hi
I presume you can order only the newer Toshiba Vista recovery DVD using this Toshiba website.
If you need a Recovery CD (Win XP) for this older Satellite series then you will have to contact the ASP (authorized service provider) in your country.
At the other hand you could use an original Microsoft XP CD to repair or to reinstall the OS.
By the way; did you try to boot the OS in safe mode pressing the F8?
Please check this. Maybe its possible.

  • Satellite A110 Media Apps for Windows Media Player don't work!

Hello, I've got a Toshiba Satellite A110 Notebook since 2006.
2 Days ago a friend formated my notebook. In order to make the systemstart a little bit faster, he stopped a few Toshiba applications in the system configuration. My notebook worksa now very good.
But here is the problem: Before formatting I could use these helpful Media Apps for my Windows Media Player - basically because of laziness to switch between the programms during working. :-)...
But now, they don't work anymore. :-(
Is it possible, that we've stopped an application, which is important to make these apps run?
Or is an additional driver left?
Or do they only work in cobination with Windows Media Player 10. (now I've installed the WMP 11)
I hope for your helpful answers.
But think over, that I'm not such great computer genius! ;-)... :-(

Try to enable all disabled applications. Go to START > Run and write MSCONFIG inside.
When the System Configuration window is open go to Startup tab and enable all applications with empty Startup Item.
Restart your notebook and check if everything works well again.

  • Satellite A110-180 - Fan starts but stops after few seconds

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-180 and when I turn on the computer the fan starts running but it stops in a few seconds and starts again in a while and stops again and starts..... Then the laptop gets heat quickly.
I bought the laptop around 5 years ago so I think that the problem is either the fan or the circuit that controls the fan. Can someone that has had the same problem make me sure that the fan is the problem?
The part number of the fan is ATZHG000500. Does anybody know if a fan with P/N ATZHG000100 is compatible with my laptop or if I can use other fan?
    Thanks for your help,

    Hi Boarder,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
I already cleaned the fan 3 days ago because I thought that perhaps that was the reason of the fan running. I installed a program to control the hard drive and CPUs temperature and at the beginning when I turn on the laptop in the morning the temperature is ok, but when I look an email and surf by internet a little bit for 10 min the temperature increase in 10ยบ or more in CPU and hard drive, and the fan is still running in the same way that I commented (in a discontinuous way). So I don't think that it's normal at least theoretically. I also have another laptop and the fan is running all the time.
I'll check about the thermal grease to see if the condition are fine.

  • Satellite A110-293 hangs in the hibernate mode

Toshiba Satellite A110-293 is hanging in the hibernate mode after opening the notebook cover. Nothing happens after tapping the keyboard, mouse clicking or any other activity (i.e. opening DVD-ROM etc.)
The cover was closed as usual with some programs running. After about 10 minutes I`ve tried to open but all system was in hibernate mode and it is still sleeping.
Please help me to restart (fix or smth) the notebook, because I haven`t found any restart button.
    Many Thanks in advance.

well, if I were you I would probably try to:
    1) (long) press the Power button until its blue light shuts down (just to be sure the system is powered down)
    2) press again the Power button to power-up the system;
if (and only if) the system was not starting to boot after (step 2) I would do the following:
    3) unplug the power cord from the laptop
    a) if all the LEDs are off remove the battery (for a few minutes)
(only) if any LED/(light indicator) is on when trying to perform the step 3a) - proceed as described in step 1) and then try again the above ( step 3a) and then 3b) - below )
    b) put the battery back and try again step 1) and step 2)
if even after step 3) the system still refuses to power on I would try:
    4) with the power cord (from the adapter) unplugged from the laptop, remove the battery (as stated in 3) and 3a) ); then try to plug in the power cord and power (from the Power button) the laptop - without the battery (battery removed)
    a) if the laptop powers up it could be a battery problem; at least the system is functioning! :)
    b) if the laptop still doesn't power up then I would take it to warranty
if I were you I would do what I wrote above; I don't advice you to do or not to do what I previously stated; I'm just telling you what I would try in such a case

  • FN keys aren't working on Satellite L10-103

    Hi,
I have a problem whit my fn keys.
    the problem is.
my fn keys arent work properly, some are working, some not. and those who work don't hav the little signes on the screen.
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L10-103
    sorry for my bad english
I hope you can help me
    see you david

    Hi
In my opinion your FN buttons are not working properly due to missing drivers.
    You agree with me?
Therefore the only solution can be visiting the Toshiba European driver website and to reinstall the needed software.
The drivers and tools can be found in Archive area of the European driver page.
I recommend installing firstly the Common Modules and then to follow the installation instruction mentioned in the Installation Instructions txt file.
By the way; Such themes have been discussed here many times. So search firstly.
    Bye

  • Satellite A110 - BIOS for Win7 and FN keys functionality

    Hello
I have installed new Windows 7 on my toshiba a110 notebook and surprisingly almost every device was dected and installed by win7. There was problem with PCMCIA but driver for Vista solved the problem. But I have still problems with Function keys and additional buttons. Do you know what driver I have to install to make Fn keys work?
By the way I would like to ask if toshiba will make drivers dedicated for toshiba satellite A110 Windows 7 ?
I have another problem with BIOS.
I saw that there is new bios update avaible for my notebook but I don't know what version should I use for WINDOWS 7 ?
    21/01/09
    BIOS Update
Toshiba Windows Vista 32 Bit 5.40-WIN World Wide
    21/01/09
    BIOS Update
Toshiba OS independent 2.00-WIN World Wide
I thought that if I have win7 OS indepedent bios update should be fine for me, but in this version there is a warning, that 2.00-WIN bios is not dedicated for Vista users. I've heard that Windows 7 is based on Vista OS so now I completely don't now which version should I choose.
    Wating for help
    Simon

I presume your Satellite A110 will not be supported for Win7. That means you will probably not be able to find any driver, tool or utility designed for Win7.
In my opinion you should be happy that Win7 works and you don't have serious problems with well working hardware. So you probably must live without some Toshiba specific functions like FN options but most of them you can use in different settings.
About BIOS I don't say much but, as far as I know, Toshiba will not offer special Win7 BIOS update for old notebook models and if everything works well you don't need BIOS update at all.
Anyway for me it is logic to use latest BIOS designed for Vista OS.

  • Satellite A110 Battery won't charge & won't run if battery is plugged in

    Hello there,
Let me try to resume the situation clearly enough.
    Product : Toshiba Satellite A110-149
Works fine on AC adapter (just a resume from standby issue but that's because of Gentoo Linux, this used to work under Windows XP)
Original battery was dead. Not only didn't it charge but with both this battery and the AC adapter absolutly nothing happened, not a single LED on. No need to mention I couldn't turn the comp on.
Bought a new battery at AboutBatteries.com
    - Replace: PA3465U-1BRS | 10.8V | 6600mAh (71Wh)
With this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged I have the power green led and the orange charging led on. But even after 8 hours and computer off the battery hasn't charged.
If I try to turn the comp on with this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged in it starts running but after a while it shuts down automatically, not matter wether I boot or enter BIOS.
BIOS is Phoenix v1.50 and I reset settings to default.
By the way, downloaded the last OS independent 1.70-WIN (bios-20090121162419.zip) but is there a way to update it without Windows?
I've tried to unplugged everything and press the power button several times (last try i kept pressing for more than 2 minutes for what that matters)
I've clean the contacts with alcohol.
Could this be because of a fuse or capacitor I could replace myself or something?
    Any help would be appreciate.
    Regards,
    Charly

    Hola,
Agree with you and sadly made the same conclusion. But the different behaviours between old battery and new battery made me wonder.
I've been using this laptopn with the AC Adaptor only for quite a while but I bought a new battery with to be able to work even without it. It is after all the purpose of a laptop. Or I'll keep going with my desktop which way more powerful. ;)
I'll wait for other potential answers and then open it to see I can find any replaceable dead component.

  • Toshiba satellite

Laptop shut down and now won't power back up. Getting flashing orange light on front of computer

My Toshiba satellite L760 is almost 3 years old up until last year I didn't have problems with it until it started to show me it's not charging(even though it's plugged into the wall) it is now out of warranty. Now my laptop gets very hot and I am scared it could cause a fire(so now I'm afraid to get on it very long) and it shuts itself off randomly so for it being only three years old it shouldn't be doing this. I've called Toshiba twice with the first time they told me it was a virus and wanted to charge me 199.99 for the year and I know that a virus wouldn't allow me to restart my laptop each time. I called them today and was told it was a motherboard problem, I paid 760.08(tax included)and don't ever abuse my laptop and I just get on it for my e-mails and to send them plus play mahjong games here and there. I'm just wondering why this happening now(a friend of mine and my own brother each have Toshiba satellite laptops without any problems and both get on theirs more than I'm on mine) can anyone tell me anything about my problems and thanks

  • Satellite A110-178 - Burn audio CD including CD-text

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-178. I would like to create an audio CD (.wav files) including cd-text (so, data like artist, album, etc.)
I tried to add the cd-text using several different software programs (Nero, Acoustica CD burner, etc.), however when I burn the CD, the cd-text is not available.
Now I found out that your cd-burner also needs to be capable to burn the cd-text. Apparantly, not all cd-burners have this capability.
Do you know whether the cd-burner in my Toshiba is capable of burning this data?
    Thanks & regards,
    Oliver

    Hi,
    Thanks for the help.
I found a useful tool from Nero which checks whether your cd/dvd burner supports cd-text etc.
I'll check it later, I'm not home now so not able to check.
