Toshiba Satellite C650D will not recover

after getting frustrated with a continously slower computer and being unable to install all the "free" stuff that comes with one of the free malware programs, we tried doing the system recovery by holding down zero while turning on the computer, and all we get now, every time we turn it on, is a message:
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller x2.02.2.7(11/02/10)
Check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
The computer did not come with a DVD, and we don't have backup.  Checked BIOS and it is set to boot to the hard drive (HDD/SSD).  tried taking out the battery and discharging by holding down the power button.  all still the same result.  Does this mean something is loose?  Or that the hard drive is bad and that it is time to get a new computer since we don't have the re-install disk for Windows or the all the hardware drivers?  Thank you.

Hi! You can down load this freeware program fom seatools dos. If it finds your HD is ok ,then you can order the recovery discs from Toshiba, This is a ISO file and will need to be burned to a CD. It is a bootable CD and will run if even if you don't have a working OS.
Dokie!!

  • Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Will Not Boot, Safe Mode Not Accessible

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I am trying to help my mother-in-law (I know, who does that!?) with her laptop. Because of the boot problems, I can only offer you limited info on the specs, but here is what I do know.
    Toshiba Satellite
    Model Number PSAE6C-TJ908C
    2 Gig RAM (assuming DDR2)
    HDD is a Toshiba MK2035GSS 200Gig
    OS Windows Vista
    Bios Version 2.60
    Problem:
First it would boot ok in one user account, but when booted in secondary account it would act odd, ie caps lock stayed on when not pressed, etc. Deleted secondary account, ran Windows repair function, now I cannot access the primary account, will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc. I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work. (New keyboard which was replaced in December, warranty has since run out, thank you Staples.)
Any and all help greatly appreciated. I'll answer any other questions you have as they come up, I realize I may have left out some key details.
I forgot to add a couple of details. When booting, it hangs at the Toshiba screen prompting for either F2 for setup or F12 for boot device selection, when you reach the log in screen it gives a number of odd sounding beeps (3 I believe), the Filter Keys box comes up, and when you try to enter the login password it will not recognize it.

will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc.

That's one sick laptop. If the thing beeps on startup and even the keyboard doesn't work, I'd figure on replacing it.
Are there important files you need to rescue?

  • Toshiba Satellite L300 - Will not start

I have a Toshiba Satelitte L300 Laptop, the DC in power plug was loose so Pulled it apart and refixed the adapter, it ran OK for a while.
Prior to fixing the plug, there were many times when switched on the fan would start, power light would turn green and orange at the same time, run for about 3 seconds then shut down.
It would not start again until DC power plug removed and battery taken out, then all put back in again, the same would happen again, this could go on until finally giving up.
Other times happen once or twice then run without a problem.
If all is well only the green power light should illuminate.
Other times fan would start, power light would turn green run for 3 seconds, fan stop switched off, then immediately start again then ran with no problems.
Now when power switch pressed, orange and green led's come on, runs for 3 seconds then switches off, you can not try to start it again until DC power plug removed and battery taken out, when all put back in again the same thing keeps happening.
With battery in, then plug in DC, the DC and Battery lights come on at the same time.
With Battery removed, plug in DC, the DC light can take from 3 to 15 seconds to come on.
With Battery in and DC plugged in, try to start runs 3 seconds and stops , both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Do the same again and remove DC supply only, both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Do the same again and Battery only, both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Remove Battery and unplug DC, wait around 30 seconds, plug DC in again, it takes around 3 to 15 seconds for the DC light to come on.
When plugged into DC battery charges OK.
I have changed memory, hard drive, checked all connections to the motherboard used another Power Supply, but could not find a problem.
    Would appreciate any advise.

Hi I know this is an old post but it is so similar to my problems (seems common) I wondered if anyone has any suggestions?
I have 2 L300's  one had a broken screen for a long time so I used it through my tv and worked well till a few months back when it refused to switch on as above.
I was then given another L300 (bit better spec with a web cam) That died last week when the power jack snapped inside so I decided to make 1 good one out of 2 no go's. I thought the problem was the hard drive on the one with the broken screen, so swapped screens and hard drives but the same no boot problem is happening :?
I have taken out the battery and plugged in (with thedifferent hard drive from original ) and got  'status oxc 0000411 and hyberfil sys errors
I changed back to the original hdd and still no go. I then took out the ram? gave it a look over and put it back and it started fine in safe mode and normally. I then turned it off to let it charge fully (which it is) and now it won't boot up again, fan and cd is working and I still have my system restore disk
I have XP on one hdd and vista on the other.
    Any idea?
Also can anyone tell me if the ram and hard drives and any other bits are interchangeable?
The one with the web cam (in bits now) is Model PSLBOE 07 JOOSEN :? if that helps
and the one I am trying to get running is

  • Satellite C650D is not booting from CD

My mother has a Toshiba Satellite C650D and password protected the hard drive. She has now forgotten the HDD password!! I want to format the drive and reinstall Windows. I have changed the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot from the CD drive and I as it boots I press F12 but it goes straight to the HDD password screen. I have change the setting to prevent fast boot but still not change.
The only way I can boot from CD is to remove the HDD.
Are there any other settings I can change to make it boot from CD?

In my opinion these documents offer clear answer. Your HDD is blocked with HDD password and every kind of access to it is not possible if you don't know the right password.
Exchange this HDD with new one and everything will be OK. With other words you will be able to use installations disc and install OS to new HDD without any problems.
    > The only way I can boot from CD is to remove the HDD.
You have already confirmed what I wrote.
    > Are you saying that setting an HDD password render the CD drive inoperable also?
Your optical disc drive is working properly and I don't know why do you write about inoperable device. Fact is that that protected HDD doesnt allow any kind of access without knowing HDD password.

  • Need a boot disc & drives: Toshiba Satellite C650D-008

I deleted the backup partition that had the drives for my Toshiba Satellite C650D-008.
(To long a story to explain why.)
I had used the computer for a Linux O/S.
Now I want to load a retail -off the self-  version of Windows 7 I purchased.
If possible I would like a link to a web-site were I can download a boot disc and drivers for free.
(preferably without the bells and whistles, media etc. )
I have very poor bandwidth here so a bittorrent might be the best bet, along with hash code numbers.
The aforementioned machine is a Canadian Market model, and there does not seem to be a source
for drivers from Toshiba Canada's download site. (The Toshiba model I have is not shown on other
Toshiba download sites.)    ......... Thanks Tom.  ROC

Best to order the recovery discs by calling 800-663-0378.  You can upgrade Home Premium in just minutes this way.
Upgrade to another edition of Windows 7 by using Windows Anytime Upgrade
You'll find all the downloads for that model here. If you insist upon installing a retail version of Windows, don't be surprised when you have difficulty getting things to work right.

Toshiba L305-S5968 will not let me do a system recovery. It started out just an occasional vista crash. Then it became more often then even mpore often. I was unable to view files because it said programs unable to view. Now I cant even get safe mode as it start loding the drivers it hangs on \windows\system32\Drivers\Avgidshx.sys everytime. then will bluescreen. I've tried to get there by pressing 0 on keyboard and power it up. but after a few it asks for the hdd password to continue so i have to stop pressing the 0 key and then doesn't ever go to recovery. • Satellite U400 will not usually boot up

    Hi all,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite U400-217 (PSU44E) running Windows 8.
Worked fine until a week ago. Now, when I switch it on, the indicator lights light up, there is a brief hard drive spin (1 second) - and then nothing. The lights above the keyboard stay lit, but the screen stays black.
I read a reset remedy where you take the battery and power cable out and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug the power cable back in, boot up, shut down, reinsert battery and boot up again.
However, the machine will still not boot up after the 30-second button hold. I still just get the lights and nothing else.
However, the machine will generally boot up fine on one attempt out of every 30 or so.
It's annoying - any ideas or suggestions very gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    KaiBosh

    > However, the machine will generally boot up fine on one attempt out of every 30 or so.
In my opinion you should firstly check the HDD
A friend of mine installed Win 8 on new notebook from another manufacturer
After some time the notebook could not boot up I thought its something wrong with motherboard but finally it was just an HDD malfunction
To be honest I dont know if its only HDD issue but in my opinion the HDD is one of the first parts which should be checked
Ok, in worst case it could be possible that mobo malfunctions.

  • Satellite A205 will not boot after Pixela ImageMixer 3 install

    Help!
I've had my Satellite (A205 S5804) for a year and a half, and it's been great...until last night. I purchased a Canon camcorder, and went to install the Pixela ImageMixer 3. After following the on-screen install instructions, it recommended I do a reboot. The pc shut down, restarted, and then went into this never-ending spiral of "system recovery diagnostics". I ran the utility, and it can't correct itself (I think something in the registry may have gotten damaged/overwritten during the install??). Safe mode won't work. Nothing works.
I can get to a DOS prompt, which takes me to "X:\~~~" and I don't know what the "X" drive is supposed to represent. I'm cursing myself now for not making a system recovery disk. I have files I'd like to try to get off of here before I do something drastic like a full-blown reformat of the HD.
Is there anything I can do to get past this system recovery loop? Am I going to have to reformat and start over?

Ok, I have looked everywhere, and am pretty certain I do not have a system recovery disk for my Toshiba. However, I did find a few other disks - can you tell me, will a system recovery disk for a slightly older Satellite work? We have another Toshiba Satellite (I think it's an M or N series) that was purchased a few months before this one. Or do I need to have a disk for my exact model? Also, how do I identify a local ASP? I purchased my machine at Best Buy, and they were quick to say they don't have recovery disks and I'd need to call Toshiba. Toshiba told me it'd be up to 10 biz days, and I'm hoping to not have to wait that long...
Thanks for any info again - I do sincerely appreciate all your help...

  • Satellite L100 will not boot up if wi-fi is enabled

    Hi
Starting from the beginning, yesterday for first time my husband connected his Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4E to an LCD TV using a s-video cable. Everything seemed to work fine but thebackground on thedesktop had vanished, there was just a plain white background with all the usual desktop icon. He restarted the lappy thinking this would sort it out but did not disconnect from the TV first. The lappy did not start back up - just had a plain black screen, no warnings or anything.
A couple techie minded friends arrived at that point and suggested the lappy had 'lost' its display drivers and, after a lot of research decided the only option was to reinstall everything from scratch.
I do not have the original Toshiba restore disks or recovery disks so downloaded all the drivers from this site. Now the laptop will not boot-up if the wifi is turned on. This model has a Atheros network card - at least the lable on the bottom says contains Atheros AR5BMB5.
If I turn the wifi switch to off the lappy starts up every time, if however the switch is on it will not start up even in safe mode. If I turn the wifi on after windows XP has started up the lappy freezes and keyboard etc are non responsive and i have to force a shut-down by holding down the power button.
So far I have spent hours trawling this and other websites to try find any clues that might help.
Does anyone have any suggestions as Christmas is likely to be hell if hubby does not have his lappy to play with!!!
    Many thanks in anticipation.
    Tree

    Hello Tree
After almost 10 years with Toshiba notebooks I must say that I have never heard about something like this. For me it sounds unbelievable.
The best solution for you is to install OS using original Toshiba recovery image. If you don't have one you can order it.
What you can try is to enter BIOS settings at startup. Set it to default settings and check if the problem persists.

  • Satellite L500 will not load past the 'welcome' screen

    Hi,
My Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop will not load past the 'welcome' screen. The cursor thing just keeps going around and around but won't go to my desktop.
Last night it went into some temporary profile and it had a message saying 'your other profile cannot load at this time please try again later'
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kara

The error message is not known to me and also searching in google didnt get any hints.
Possibly your Windows OS is muddled up.
Did you try to boot Win 7 in safe mode?
Try this. Restart your notebook, tap the F8 key.
In advanced boot options choose the option called Safe Mode.
If the notebook does not allow booting in Safe Mode, try the option Last Good Known Configuration.
If this didnt help, try Repair my Computer. Here you can choose between different settings.
The one which could solve this is HDD recovery which helps you to set the notebook to factory settings. But this means also that your HDD would be formatted!
    So be aware of this!

  • System will not recover/stuck in loop

I just started having an issue with my computer the other day.  I had an issue after Thanksgiving but I am not sure if they are related.  I have a Toshiba and I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  Around Thanksgiving my sound would not play when I streamed videos.  A friend of mine fixed it (very techie person).  I think he ran some updates or did something to update my Firefox - not really sure.  Everything was fine until about a week ago.  Now when I play something it drags really slowly so the sound is very distorted.  He told me to do a system restore but I get an error message when I try.  I tried to play music from my media player, videos from youtube, notifications, everything drags really slowly.  When I try to restore the system it says there was a critical update on 12/15 (around the time the issue started).  I click next and it says ready to restore (the resore point is 12/15).  Then an error message pops us that says: The disk TI106139W0E (C has errors. Windows has detected file system corruption on TI106139W0E (C. You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.  It shows a link that says "check the disk for errors" or it gives me the option to click "ok".  If I click ok it goes back to the ready to restore box and the cycle continues.  If I click "check the disk for errors" it asks if i want to "automatically fix file system errors" (this box is already checked or I can check "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".  When I scan it says "windows can't scan the disk while it's in use" and asks do I want to check for hard disk errors the next time I start my computer.  My only options are cancel or schedule disk check.  Both options loop me back again so I get no where.
I am not very tech savy but I follow instructions well.  Please help me!
    Toshiba Satellite L755-S5214
P.S. I'm not sure if this is a audio issue or a recovery issue.

I can check "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".  When I scan it says "windows can't scan the disk while it's in use" and asks do I want to check for hard disk errors the next time I start my computer.  My only options are cancel or schedule disk check.
That's normal. Chkdsk cannot repair a disk that's in use by Windows.
So say Yes and restart Windows. During startup, chkdsk's cousin (autochk) will scan the disk before Windows starts.

  • Satellite L40 will not recognize charger

I have Toshiba Satellite L40 and my laptop will not recognize my charger unless I put pressure onto the charger head when connected to the laptop, and this doesnt always work.
I am not sure if the charger is faulty, so Ive purchased a charger from eBay, but could anything else be wrong with it?
Ive read another old post with someone who had a similar problem, somebody replied to the old post saying that it might be the charger connector on the laptop, and if so this is connected to the motherboard?
Does anybody know if this is correct, or if it's something else? Any advice would be appreciated, as I don't really want to lose the laptop.
    Thanks!!

ok. To put in a easier to understand my laptop will not charge propery with my charger unless i apply pressure to the charger when it's connected to the laptop. Im applying pressure to the top of the charger where in connects to the laptop, and sometimes have to wriggle in around. I'm going to try another charger which I have purchased from ebay.
I Would like to know if it could be anything else? If the charger dock is damaged on the laptop, will i be able to change just the charger dock, or is it a bigger job.....such as the motherboard????

  • Toshiba Satellite C650D-00D

Hi my niece has a Toshiba Sattelite c650d-00d and it will not turn on. She has purchased a new adapter. She has removed and reinserted the battery. She has tried starting the computer while it is plugged in with no battery. She did a hard reset on it and it went on for a few seconds then off again. Do you have any recommendations?

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. I believe your laptop is from Toshiba Canada.

  • Satellite P100 will not power up or has blank screen

So I have this laptop that has failed me about 4 months ago. Will not power on anymore. I can press the start button and it sounds like its working but there is nothing on the screen. I can hear the fan every now and again and then a beep after about 1 min after "start up" but screen looks dead. Nothing appears on screen at all.
I've tried the powering on with and without the battery.
My laptop use to get very hot and freeze as far as I remember.
I've replaced my Toshiba with other notebook but if my Satellite is not gonna work again is there a way I can get files off there still?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi
    > I've replaced my Toshiba with other notebook but if my Satellite is not gonna work again is there a way I can get files off there still?
You need the data and files from the internal HDD?
You could access the data connecting the P100 HDD as an external USB HDD to the other computer.
You could remove the HDD from the P100 and could insert it into a external USB caddy
I think the HDD supports the SATA interface so you have to look for SATA USB caddies
    Regarding the P100 issue;
Well it seems to be a hardware problem We can speculate only about the kind of malfunction but for me it looks like a serious issue
The best is to get in contact with an notebook technician and to check the single parts
    Good luck
