  • Bios update for my Toshiba satellite c675-s7200 - Helppppppp :/

I am being told to download the bios update for my laptop so I put in the serial # and it gives me an update but I have read alot about once you upate your bios it wont work so I am really nervous about doing this..here are the problems I have been having..
    1. My laptop was restored back to the factory settings just like it came out of the box.
    2. When I turn on my laptop I have to press f1 to start windows now keep in mind it does not ask me to press any keys I only knew to press f1 because it was stuck on the Toshiba screen showing the f2 and f12 keys so I began pressing them all until i got to windows. None of the function keys work expect f1
    3. Once I get into windows everything runs and works fine. I have gone into my toshbia asst to reset the bios to default but it does nothing so I can not apply it. What do I need to do?
I have been told that I need to replace my cmos battery but then I have been told that is not the problem the problem is the bios settings need to be changed to the default WELL ok how do I that if it will not let me?
    Helpppppp...

Hi! It could be your CMOS battery causing this. Shut down your PC. When it starts up and you see F2 and F12 at the bottom of your screen, press F2. Find where it says to set to default on the bottom of the screen. My default is F10. Yours
may be different. After you set to default , save and exit!

The resume loader is probably trying to resume from hibernation by reading the hiberfil.sys file.
Press and hold the power button to turn off the computer.
Does the same thing happens when you restart?
Can you use the F2 key to access the BIOS?

  • Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320 recovery help!

All the pc does is go to the Toshiba Splash screen, and then a blue screen that says "Recovery your PC needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accesed. Error code: 0x0000185.
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media contact your system administrator or PC manufactuer."  I have tried resetting the firmware and also holding down 0 like Toshiba instructs. However, after I select yes to get into the HDD recovery, the screen flashes white and then goes right back to the same recovery screen no matter what I do. It's very irritating when I can't even get recovery to work -___-. Someone please help me out? I don't have any recovery disks, etc.

To restore your laptop back to it's "ORIGINAL FACTORY SPECS" you must 1st access "Boot Options" on your Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320, or similar model & here's what worked for me. Start the laptop while tapping the "F12" key. This will open your boot options menu. At the very bottom of the list is an option called "HDD Recover"...click on it if you want to be able to access your "Advance System Recovery Options" where you'll be given new options allowing you to restore your laptop back to it's original factory specs. Please don't forget to give me "Kudos" by clicking onto my Kudos button next to my post if my solution was able to help you in any way...thanks.~: )  (((A+ Discount Computer Repair, Alb, NM)))

This site is for US computers. I doubt you'll get your questions for that Canadian model answered here.
There appear to be two recovery partitions. Maybe one for 32- and one for 64-bit Windows. Or maybe one is for English and the other for French.
Your User's Manual isn't much help either. You probably need to ask Toshiba tech support in Canada.
About all I have to offer is this: Be wary of drives with advanced-format technology. See my message about that.

  • Toshiba Satellite C40T-ASP4268FM Recovery messed up, windows 8 re install

I bought this laptop Toshiba Satellite C40T-ASP4268FM, practically new, plastic protectors still attached. Tried to remove microsoft account by factory reset, because there is no other way to delete one. After that it asked me to check and restore windows and froze on 40% after several attempts I somehow managed to get back on windows, but then after shutdown froze after welcome screen. I decided to install linux,it prompted a message that I could not install it. I tried to go back to windows 8, I have a DVD with an ISO I downloaded from Microsoft page before the release of 8.1, but I can´t install it because is a wrong Key. So I assume It would be the same with windows 8.1. It does not boot a DVD with windows 7, So I pretty much ended up with an expensive paper weight. How can I re install windows 8? I'm Mexican and so is the laptop.

    Downloads are here.
    The 8.1 ISO is here.

  • Sun Virtual Box & Toshiba Satellite L10 - product recovery settings problem

    Hi-
I had a problem a while back with my Satellite L10 and was unable to get full recovery settings after installing Sun Virtual Box and ignoring Microsoft warnings.
I suspect this has now cloned my disk. Something is very very wrong. I am using Win 7 beta in the interim but would like my XP back.
My notes to Sun Microsystems are here:
Has anyone had the same experience or what does Toshiba recommend?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi -
Thanks very much for the advice.
It's really strange as the system runs through Win 98 options on booting the product recovery dvd but then gets you to a full & perfect toshiba L10 XP.
I reinstalled XP and went through the process you mentioned above (F8 etc) after installing - at least my safe boot mode options etc. are there.
My guess is that either the disk itself picked up on the cloning or something outside the HDD has been cloned or produced an 'image' of the previous HDD.
If I want to get a new product recovery dvd (as a next step in my investigation) can I download from the net or do I have to order from Toshiba (is this a good course of action?...).
My system can only burn cd's, but I could get someone else to burn a dvd for me if this is possible.
    Thanks....

  • Replaced hard drive: Toshiba Satellite L505 -still getting error message

Replaced the hard drive but still getting this message:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
No boot able device --insert boot disk and press any key
Anybody have any suggestions as to why I'm still getting this. I don't have a boot disk - none came with my laptop.

    The model is Satellite L505D-GS600
However I think I figured out the problem (one of those DUH moments).
For the initial error, I had problems with my hard drive. I was told it was mechanical and but the hard drive was not corrupt. I was hoping to recover my files. In any event, I did purchase another hard drive and realized after posting the question that I needed the recovery disk in order for it to work. I don't have this disk so I've got to order one. However, if I'm wrong please let me know. Also, I have not made any changes other than the new hard drive. Thank you for your reply.

  • Satellite A305-S6992E recovery error

    I have a two-disc set of Vista SP1 disks for my A305-S6992E.
I was trying to upgrade the HDD to a larger one, and bought a HDD and installed it.
I put the recover disk in and clicked to return the computer to factory settings.
It took a long time, reading data from the disk, then creating files, and finally installing.
The computer reboots, I get the little scrolling green bars while Vista loads, it gets to the pretty blue-green screen, and it says "please wait while windows continues setting up your computer..." then I get an error dialog that says:
+The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.+
I've read several forums stating to use the F8 option at boot to repair, but repair is not an option on the Boot menu. My choices start with Safe Mode and end with Start Windows Normally.
I've tried re-running the recovery disc program, and messed with some variants (with and without re-partitioning, checking memory, etc.) but it always comes back to the same place and stops with the same error.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi mate
You said that you have upgraded the HDD.
Did you notice the same installation issue using the old HDD?
Please check this! This would be helpful to find out if the new HDD could be the problem.
I would also recommend checking the BIOS.
There is a option (or should be) called SATA mode. Try to set it to compatible mode and then try to install the OS again
    Good luck

  • Toshiba Satellite P875-S7200 not booting/dark monitor

Hello, This is about my wife's laptop. A while ago the laptop was black when switched on. Nothing to be seen on the monitor. The sounds of the fan and harddisk could indicate some activity, and after a while we could hit the enter button and hear that some more happened. But since the monitor was black we had no idea what happened. The only thing we could do was forcing it to shut down by holding the on button in for so many seconds. Switch it on again, and the same thing happend. After like 10 or whatever times of switching on and off it suddenly booted normally.Everything fine, and the computer could be used as normal.Next time my wife wanted to use it, it was also normal but suddenly one day the monitor was black again. On and off many times, finaly it boorted up normally. This has been going on for a few months, until a while ago it was impossible to boot it. And, now the sort of "normal" sounds has become not so normal. The harddisk does not work and spin like before, and the fan acts up different. I went on this website, and typed in the serial number and model number or whatever it was and was taken through a troubleshooting, removing battery, holding in the on button for more than 20 seconds, I think I held it in for a minute. Connect to power supply but no battery and try to boot... well, I guess you folks have gone through all that yourself. Then I took out the memory, this one has 6 GB, and I tried to use only one memory card, no difference, and I tried the 4GB memory car where the 2GB had been, and vice versa, and the 2GB card where the 4 had been and only that, but no difference. Then I took out the harddisk and put it in my own laptpo, which is an older ASUS, and the computer booted up but came to a point where it said that it had to do some adjustments since the hardware of the ASUS was not the same as in the Toshiba. At that point I stopped because I did not want to mess up the drive and windows setup. But, at least it seemed to work fine up to that point. We have also tried to hook up the computer to the TV with the HDMI cable, and push F4 I think it is to switch from the laptop monitor to something else. The TV is as black and lifeless as the laptop monitor. So, I have been thinking it must be a problem with the motherboard. Sadly we do not have another monitor to try, and we do not have any other memory to try, and well, that is how it is. Do you guys think it is fair to say it is the motherboard ?  The computer warranty is out years ago, and I have taken the hole thing apart today and have tried to look for a new motherboard for the thing. Or, can it be something else ? Thank you in advance for any help. The computer has been rather little used so it looks new and it is sad to just dump it. Best regards,  Bill

Well, it has gone some time now, and here is what has happened since I initially asked my question. I got in touch with Toshiba online chat here on this website, and talked to a technician and here is what came out of it.I suspected before I talked to the person that it was the motherboard, and not the monitor, and from what I understand, if the computer has an HDMI outlet, and you connect it to another monitor or a tv that works as a monitor and nothing shows there, it is not the laptop monitor, but the motherboard. From what I understand, the HDMI is supposed to come out with a signal no matter what as long as the motherboard is ok. In my case the HDMI was black too, and well, I guess it could have been a case where both the motherboard and monitor was faulty, but at least the motherboard was faulty. The person did not advice me to do anything with it, but buy a new computer.Well, my wife liked her computer very much, and was a little disappointed the computer was dead after fairly little use even if it was some year sold.In addition she went to Staples and bought a brand new Toshiba, and it had a funky keyboard that did not feel good to type on, and the upper part of the screen was darker than the rest. Like if the background light was gone on the upper part, or not completely gone but partly. So, two Toshibas not being up to par, well, my wife would most likely not buy a Toshiba anymore even if it has been her favorite brand for many years, so I wanted to make her happy, and bought a new motherboard, installed it, and the computer came back up and is running fine. The only little minus is that the Welcome message in the beginning is gone, so no "TOSHIBA" over the screen before Windows comes on, and no way of getting into BIOS. I have no idea how to fix that, but at least the computer runs like a champ, and is as good as ever before, and this motherboard has sockets for 2 more memory cards, if she for some reason wants to upgrade. It went fine in the end, and the price was not so bad, only 157 dollars. So, it seems my wife is saved as a continuing customer of Toshiba products. I just hate it when she gets disappointed, so sad to see the suffering.  Best regards,  Bill

  • Hard disk error on Toshiba Satellite A505 56980

    Hello,
Windows keeps bringing up a notification that the hard disk on my Toshiba laptop(A505 56980) has errors. It recommends for me to get hardware technical support to determine if the disk can be repaired or needs to be replaced.
My disk name is TOSHIBA MK5055GSX and I have only one volume C:\ drive.
I am running my antivirus scan just to make sure I don't have any active viruses or trojans damaging my hard drive. My computer freezes for a few seconds on and off. Not sure if this is related to the hard disk error.
I have backed up all my info and also created system recovery disk. I also have the recovery disks from when I got the laptop.
My question is how do I go about diagnosing the hard disk error and geting it fixed? What is the warranty for hard disks? I bought this laptop beginning of last year.
I appreciate any help I can get to resolve this problem.
    Thanks
    - Priya K

Perhaps your model name/number is Satellite A505-S6980?
    Satellite A505-S6980 Specifications

Restart your system, when you see the Toshiba logo start pressing the F8 key repeatedly until you enter the Advanced Boot Options Menu, choose 'Repair Your Computer'.
This should take you to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRe)
Select 'Command Prompt', and type in this command, hit the 'Enter' key, and restart your computer:
       chkdsk c: /r
This will check your hard drive, try to recover any corrupted files/data it can, and repair any problems it can. It takes a while to run anyway. But, if there are problems with your hard drive, it could take many hours. Just keep checking back, it will give a report as it goes, and when it's finished.
Let us know the results. Good luck.

I really do need help, I'm afraid something will happen to my computer, so is there anyone who knows something about this kind of problem?

I'm from sweden.

  • Can't create the recovery discs for Toshiba Satellite C55-A5387 Laptop

Hello, I just got my Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8 and have barely used it. One of the first things I did was go to the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator to make recovery discs but I get error messages when burning the DVDs.
Toward the end of burning the DVD I see this:
"Failed to read the following file.
     D:\ZZimages\ZZimages\install25.swm
    (error Code: 02014F-20-0000000)"
Or this slightly different error messages:
"Failed to read the following file.
     D:\ZZimages\ZZimages\install16.swm
    (error Code: 02014F-20-0000000)"

If the problem is the recovery partition on your hard drive instead of the DVD's you will have to call Tech support 1-800-457-7777 , Call while you still have 90 days free tech support.

  • Satellite P850 Recovery Error: 0003

I've tried to restore my Toshiba Satellite P850 to out-of-the-box state. I ordered the Product Recovery Media directly from Toshiba. Following the 4-part dvd initialisation and file-copying process, the recovery wizard attempts to install Windows 8 onto the hard drive. Approximately 70% through, the process fails and displays:
    Error: 0003
    Recovery error.
Please prees [OK] to turn off the computer.
Hard drive (WinDFT) and memory tests (MemTest86) have passed. Multiple installation attempts - each failed. Complete format and repeated installation also failed.
Is there an issue with the recovery media? Could the hard drive require replacement (despite WinDFT passing)?
    Any help truly appreciated.

    eagle3,
For completeness, and anyone experiencing the error issues mentioned above, we've finally come to a conclusion.
With replacement of HDD seeming more and more likely, I replaced the HDD with an existing (smaller) SATA drive i had at home, this would act as the test case to determine whether purchase of a new drive would be worthwhile?
Utilising recovery media, the process was smooth, efficient and seamless. Most importantly, error free.
The drawback is the user will need to replace the hard disk.
I want to thank you for all your suggestions as well as assistance.
