Toshiba Satellite C855-SS530 touchpad issues: left-click randomly releases

Brand new Toshiba Satellite C855-SS530 Windows 8. My touchpad will very often respond erratically. As I hold down on the left button and scroll, often times scroll will randomly release and then sometimes re-engage. This will happen with web pages, holding windows, etc. I'll be dragging a window or file or what-have-you, it will release the hold of it's own accord (without me releasing the left button) then sometimes re-engage (picking up other random files, selecting stuff on the desktop or other random things I didn't want to do). Most often I am holding down the left button and scrolling down a web page, and it will randomly "let go" of the scroll (before I have let go of the left button). Occassionally the touchpad will not immediately respond. It's too annoying to keep this laptop.
It isn't clear to me whether this is hardware or software related...Could be a bad button, bad touchpad, loose wire, or even a memory-glitch error which disrupts the touchpad signal. Does anyone know if this is a known issue with the Satellite C855-S5350. The touchpad is vital. It can't glitch out even 1% of the time. If I can't solve the issue, it'll likely be returned. I turned off most of the Synaptics silly stuff (edge swipe, etc) and it didn't resolve anything. There are nearly no services running eating up RAM so I have no idea why the touchpad would be freezing up...

  • Satellite Pro M40 - touchpad and left click repair guidance

    Hi,
I have a problem with the left click of my Satellite Pro M40 (PSM46E). It has lost the 'click'.
Does anyone have some guidance for taking the top off to repair? What screws and how etc?
    Many Thanks

    Hi!
I think you will not get some guides because only an ASP (authorized service provider) has someone. These documents are not for the public.
I dont know how to disassemble the notebook but this procedure is tricky. You must remove a lot of screws and parts like keyboard, LCD, upper cover and so far.
*You can try it and try but its your own risk*. I think this should do by a notebook technician.
By the way, I founded a maybe interesting article for you:

  • Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

I've a Satellite P300-1AN notebook and since the beginning (two weeks)
I have a touchpad issue: it is not immediately responsive and the pointer trembles when touching the pad. Very often it freezes for just one or two seconds.
This is VERY annoying. A USB mouse works perfectly.
I tried reinstalling ALPS drivers, tried Synaptics ones, tried just Windows Vista drivers: no way.
Now I have found the reason: this issue is present only when the notebook is powered by AC adapter.
With battery the touchpad is perfect.
I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore!
Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?
Has anyone had this same issue?

The point is that your notebook should be always checked using the Toshiba factory configuration.
Why? Because the ASP wants to be sure that this issue is not related to a software problem (compatibility issue with 3rd party applications). The software issues are not covered by warranty.
Furthermore the ASP will always recover the notebook before checking any hardware parts for a malfunction. Therefore you should always backup your data from the HDD before you will send the notebook for checking.
I would recommend to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recover disk and then check if the issue would appears.
If yes then you can contact the ASP again and could provide all details which are necessary for an technician.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad.
For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).
I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly.
After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything.
I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine).
Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.
I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem?
The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you)
    Thanks a bunch,
    Amanda

Here was my solution to this. My left click button on both the trackpad and touch pad suddenly stopped working on me. After putting up with this for a few weeks I decided to investigate. I found if I disabled the touch pad the trackpad left click would start to work again. So I investigated by carefully popping off the left click button for touchpad. Everything looked normal, so I investigated a little father buy removing the small round blueish rubber piece in the middle of the button. Once I did this I realized it quite dirty, with a soft cloth and a toothpick I cleaned both the contacts on the PC and the the black spot on the rubber piece, putting everything back together and my left click worked once again.
The cause of my problem was just a build up of dirt under the rubber contact which caused the button to short out and disable itself.
I didn't have to reinstall any software or drivers.

  • [FIXED]Toshiba Satellite m45-s359 brightness issue

    Hi all.
I recently replaced the screen on my Toshiba Satellite, as it had a large crack in it. Thing is, the new screen is WAY too bright. What was once white is now a blinding light, and what was once pitch black is now a light grey. The battery life has been affected as well.
So far, with this laptop, it's been an uphill battle. The keyboard, although it has a brightness Fn key, hasn't been recognized by any distro I use, much less Arch. So keybindings are out the question. I have laptop-mode-tools installed, but there isn't a "video" folder in "/proc/acpi". The "/sys/class/backlight/" folder is empty as well.
Anything anyone can offer on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I've tried using xbacklight, but I get
    xbacklight -set 50
    No outputs have backlight property

That is pretty much it.  It is a single .c file, a README file, and a Makefile.  Let me try to compile it when I get home to see how it goes.  I'll tar it up and send you a copy by email to the link in your profile.  You will need to compile it for your system.  I'm pretty sure a module compiled on my system won't fly on yours.
Edit:  No, actually.  I recall it is built as a kernel module and was built by slipping it into the kernel tree.  Not that tough.  I'll throw together some notes.

  • Toshiba Satellite U40T-ASP4261SM - TouchPad is locked or Driver issue?

    Hello friends,
I just got the new ultrabook, which I'm happy with, however the touchpad stopped to work suddenly, if I connect a USB Mouse it works fine and also the touch screen is also working, but I need the touchpad to work.
seems like it locked somehow, or is it a driver issue?
I'm using the default OS: Windows 8
Could anybody help me with this matter, please
    Thanks in advance

Try resetting the Bios by going through these steps
    >Properly shutdown the laptop by the shutdown button or by holding the power button for 4 to 6 secs
    >Hold down the F2, then press F9, Set to default, Then press F10, Save and exit..
    > Your computer will be restarting again then try to move or use the touchpad after logging in to your account ///
Also try using F5 to enable and disable the touchpad..
Let me know if there would be any changes.... ^_^

  • Toshiba Satellite C855-S5350 keyboard types wrong characters

Hi all!I have the above named Toshiba laptop with keyboard problems. When typing, the keyboard will instead type another different character. Example, When I press "C", the computer will type "cd" and also brings up that menu for choosing second screen (PC screen only, duplicate........)When I press "escape", the computer will truly "escape" but will also type "q"When I press "d", again, "cd" is typed. When I press the space bar, space will be applied together with [Caps lock will type QqQqQq as much as I continue pressing it.J will type in "mj"M will also type "mj"S will type "xs" and also apply the Fn key for decreasing screen brightness (F2)V will type "v4"X will do same as 'S' above.Num 4 (top row) will type "v4" as in 'V' above. What I have tried,Connected an external keyboard - It worked fine.Booted with a linux live CD- typing problem is still there also. Please can someone let me know how I can solve this and what might have caused it? I'm afraid of having to replace the keyboard (as it smells so to me). Any workaround? Thanks.

This appears to be a very common fault with the Satellite Laptops.  My C55-A5249 is just over a year old and has had excellent care then all of the sudden the keyboard stops functioning. Of coarse it didn't happen until after the warranty was up. But I called Tech support anyway. They walk me through some issues that they could not resolve and sent me on to Another repair department (Closed on weekends).  This left me time to play arround.  I was actually able to attach a wireless keyboard to the laptop and it worked just great. I am currently in the process of "Refreshing" (hold down the ShiftKey and click on Restart from the power options button) the laptop back to defaults by hold down the ShiftKey and click on Restart from the power options button.  This is a gigantic pain by the time you restore everything.  Did I mention: "I HATE WINDOWS 8.  Anyway.. I'll let you know what happens next.

  • Z60M Touchpad Right/Left Click Not Working

I'm baffled.  I can move the pointer all day long with the touchpad, but I cannot select anything by tapping nor with the left and right buttons.  According the BIOS, everything with the ultranav seems normal and active.  I cracked open the palmrest and checked the connection too... looks sat.  Additionally, the fingerprint reader is working fine.  I checked the ultranav in device manager... device appears to be working properly.  I'm running a virus scan right now to rule out any possibility of a conflict.
The only positive outcome to this problem is I'm getting better at keyboard navigation
If anyone has any suggestions, please reply.  Thanks in advance!

Make sure that  the pad is not turned off.
Are the lights on above the touchpad.???

  • Toshiba Satellite L3** CD/DVD issue !!! Here is my solution. How about you?

Hello everyone. Nowadays, I see on this forum people are discussing about the CD/DVD issues on L30/L300/L350. I would like to share my experience on this issue and hope everyone shares your experience as well.
My laptop are Toshiba L30 PSL33 and Toshiba L300 PSLB2E. I am lucky that I have no problem with CD/DVD discs/drives as I can read/write/play CD/DVD smoothly. However, I used to have some problems with CD/DVD drive on my notebook. Here is my experience.
    1) Make sure there is no other CD/DVD softwares on your computer (except the orginal software from Toshiba). Especially to those who have been used to using Nero. If you have problems, try to remove Nero and test with the one supported by Windows
    2) If you still have problems, try to update the firmware of the DVD drive. It can be done by visiting the Toshiba Support Driver site (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/). Check what drive you have by looking at the Device Manager. Download the newest firmware from there and update your drive.
    3) My last solution. If you have Vista pre-installed, try to get a XP version on your computer and do not install any other software. Test/copy a CD by using windows writing tool to see whether the problem is solved or not.
In my opinion. the main reasons you may encournter are: there are CD/DVD drives have XP firmware base and need to be updated so that they can be used in Vista; or there are software like Nero and PowerDVD are causing the conflict between the ACPI controllers (real and simulated).
Hope this may help you all. If you have other experiences, please share with everyone.
PS: Please excuse my language as I am not an English speaker.

  • Toshiba Satellite S55-A5274 power issues

My toshiba satelite s55-a5274 will not turn off to the power button even if held for over 15 seconds. The screen stays black and is not responsive. Im wondering if there is any type of reset button that will shut everything down that perhaps would be under the "hood" so to speak. The laptop will also not respond to the power adapter.
Any information is good information. Thanks

  • Toshiba Satellite A665-S6055 audio issues.

A few hours ago I noticed my volume controls seemed to have a mind of their own.  The volume bar would go all the way down to zero, and noticed the system control panel volume buttons (above the keyboard, not the same model but you get the idea) would light up on their own.  Volume Up, Down, and Mute were lighting up and messing with the volume.  It was as if someone was pressing them.  Thinking it may be a virus of some sort, I ran Avast and Malwarebytes but both returned nothing.
I then thought the system control buttons were bugging out, and decided to uninstall the TOSHIBA Value Added Package, which I thought would remove the functionality of said buttons.  However upon restart the problem has only gotten worse.  Now the Play/Pause button is lighting up randomly.  According to the control panel the Value Added Package was indeed removed, and I have not reintalled the latest version of it yet.
Any suggestions?  My sound is essentially ruined.
edit: I tried restoring the system to a few days ago but it didn't help.  After the restart yet ANOTHER button from the system control panel has started randomly lighting up.  I'm starting to think this isn't an audio issue, but an issue with the system control panel buttons.  I will reinstall the TVAP using this download and update this post with the results.
edit: Reinstalling TVAP did not solve the issue.  The issue has actually escalated quite dramatically.  Even more buttons are being accessed now, including the wi-fi button.  I'm literally unable to access this website on my laptop because the wi-fi function keeps getting turned on and off.  I fear a factory reset is my only hope.
edit: The issue goes away in Safe Mode.  Still doesn't really fix anything though.
edit: Possibly fixed.  Unplugged power cord, forced shut down, removed battery and waited about a minute.  Plugged the cord back in as well as the battery.  Started it up, went to BIOS settings and reset it to the defaults (F9).  Saved the setting and continued the reboot process.  The issue appears to be gone.  I tested the volume buttons and they are working properly.
    HELP.

Thanks for keeping a running edit of your progress as well as your ultimate solution!
Maybe this will help other with a similar situation.

  • New computer nothing but problems Toshiba Satellite C855-S5308

I like to bounce back and forth between IE and FF.  In both browsers I am having Java problems. For instance on a site today it had a blank page and told me I was missing a plug-in (Java Firefox). Sent me to update. I already did that. THREE times. In IE, it just has nothing on the page.
On Safeway's website today I tried to use the ADD button to add something to my grocery list on their website. Nothing happened. I switched to FF and it was fine.
Pogo and pages with graphics seem to glitch a lot for me as well.  I'm not sure what else to do.
I have Windows 8 which sucks enough but all of this...I end up going to use my dad's old desktop just to do certain surveys or to shop.
I bought this because my last two laptops were Toshiba and I loved them. I had the last one five years when it died on me...this thing is either a piece of garbage or someone needs to tell me what I am doing wrong.

Can you check the laptop's full model and part numbers from the label on the bottom? Don't include the serial number.

  • Toshiba Satellite pro sp6000 startup issues

    Hi There,
I've been having problems with my sp6000 - it refuses to turn on most of the time. 1 in every 100 tries it might turn like nothing was ever wrong. Normally though, the green light turns on for less than second and then disappears.
I have a feeling it MAYBE to do with the cdr/dvd combo drive - as it responds differently when this is removed, tho I havent got another drive at hand to test this theroy.
    Thanks for any help,
    Toby

    Hi Toby
If You suspect the optical drive is the problem of your machine, simply plug it out and try start without it. That is supposed to work just fine.
    Good luck
