Toshiba Satellite L300 - Will not start

I have a Toshiba Satelitte L300 Laptop, the DC in power plug was loose so Pulled it apart and refixed the adapter, it ran OK for a while.
Prior to fixing the plug, there were many times when switched on the fan would start, power light would turn green and orange at the same time, run for about 3 seconds then shut down.
It would not start again until DC power plug removed and battery taken out, then all put back in again, the same would happen again, this could go on until finally giving up.
Other times happen once or twice then run without a problem.
If all is well only the green power light should illuminate.
Other times fan would start, power light would turn green run for 3 seconds, fan stop switched off, then immediately start again then ran with no problems.
Now when power switch pressed, orange and green led's come on, runs for 3 seconds then switches off, you can not try to start it again until DC power plug removed and battery taken out, when all put back in again the same thing keeps happening.
With battery in, then plug in DC, the DC and Battery lights come on at the same time.
With Battery removed, plug in DC, the DC light can take from 3 to 15 seconds to come on.
With Battery in and DC plugged in, try to start runs 3 seconds and stops , both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Do the same again and remove DC supply only, both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Do the same again and Battery only, both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Remove Battery and unplug DC, wait around 30 seconds, plug DC in again, it takes around 3 to 15 seconds for the DC light to come on.
When plugged into DC battery charges OK.
I have changed memory, hard drive, checked all connections to the motherboard used another Power Supply, but could not find a problem.
Would appreciate any advise.

Hi I know this is an old post but it is so similar to my problems (seems common) I wondered if anyone has any suggestions?
I have 2 L300's  one had a broken screen for a long time so I used it through my tv and worked well till a few months back when it refused to switch on as above.
I was then given another L300 (bit better spec with a web cam) That died last week when the power jack snapped inside so I decided to make 1 good one out of 2 no go's. I thought the problem was the hard drive on the one with the broken screen, so swapped screens and hard drives but the same no boot problem is happening :?
I have taken out the battery and plugged in (with thedifferent hard drive from original ) and got  'status oxc 0000411 and hyberfil sys errors
I changed back to the original hdd and still no go. I then took out the ram? gave it a look over and put it back and it started fine in safe mode and normally. I then turned it off to let it charge fully (which it is) and now it won't boot up again, fan and cd is working and I still have my system restore disk
I have XP on one hdd and vista on the other.
Any idea?
Also can anyone tell me if the ram and hard drives and any other bits are interchangeable?
The one with the web cam (in bits now) is Model PSLBOE 07 JOOSEN :? if that helps
and the one I am trying to get running is

  • Satellite L300 will not power on - no light on after power plugged in

    Hi,
I have a problem L300 will not start, after you plug in the power cable non of the lights comes on. tried with and without battery,
Swapped the cable inside laptop that goes from the plug to motherboard with other L series laptop and makes no difference, Motherboard doesn't look burned or anything like that.
Just didn't switched on one day. Any ideas??
    Cheers

    Hey,
Sounds like a serious hardware malfunction Probably the mainboard needs replacing. I mean it cant be the charger if you have already tried two different chargers with and without battery so it must be the mainboard or another hardware part.
If you get in contact with an authorized service provider the guys can make an exact diagnostic what part is defective and if you want to replace it or not. Mainboards are very expensive
So just get in contact with the local ASP and ask for help. :)

  • New Satellite Pro L300 will not start up or operate

My new laptop will not start operating.  I have done everything by the book in regard to installation, but once it asks for my user name and password, it goes to a page where it says "Preparing your system".  Then after about 10 mins it goes back to the sign in page with my user name and password, and repeats the whole thing.
How do I fix this?  The laptop was bought new from ebay as a gift.

Getting a DOA is so random that it probably won't matter when you place your order. Right out of the box,the machine should start up instantly when you press the power button. Yours doesn't.
It sounds like it arrived with a dead battery and the power adaptor is not charging the battery. Even so, it should start up from the power adaptor alone. It could be that the power adaptor is not being recognized.
If you still have it, you could try resetting the SMC, which could possibly get things working again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
Your satisfaction is important to Apple. If your machine has problems out of the box, they would rather give you a replacement immediately than to mess around with one which obviously has a problem of some sort. The one you return will go to the repair depot and the problem will be found and repaired if possible. Then it goes to the online store and is sold as a refurbished machine.
A power issue like yours may be simple to fix, or it may not be. The last thing you want to do with an expensive brand new machine is to find out it is defective in some way and have to send it off for repair. You would much rather just give back the defective machine and get another one that is not defective, and I think Apple realizes this.
There's really no reason to wait before submitting a new order--you can do it at your convenience.
    Good luck!

    have a nice day

Thank you all for your help!
I bought a new hard drive and reinstalled everything.
I got a smart drive USB casing for the corrupted hard drive and connected it to the laptop.
First it couldn't read any thing on it and it wouldn't run a scandisk. So i run a scandisk on 'my computer' which included the connected smart drive.
Took a long time ... went to bed after 2 hours and when i got up and restarted the laptop, the smart drive was accessible and i could transfer all my files etc.
I don't know what it did over night, but it worked.
I reinstalled the old hard drive to retrieve some program data and it runs on windows again and everything was nearly like before, just the system restore wouldn't run and after a scan disk etc it still won't run.
    great.

  • Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Will Not Boot, Safe Mode Not Accessible

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I am trying to help my mother-in-law (I know, who does that!?) with her laptop. Because of the boot problems, I can only offer you limited info on the specs, but here is what I do know.
    Toshiba Satellite
    Model Number PSAE6C-TJ908C
    2 Gig RAM (assuming DDR2)
    HDD is a Toshiba MK2035GSS 200Gig
    OS Windows Vista
    Bios Version 2.60
    Problem:
First it would boot ok in one user account, but when booted in secondary account it would act odd, ie caps lock stayed on when not pressed, etc. Deleted secondary account, ran Windows repair function, now I cannot access the primary account, will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc. I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work. (New keyboard which was replaced in December, warranty has since run out, thank you Staples.)
Any and all help greatly appreciated. I'll answer any other questions you have as they come up, I realize I may have left out some key details.
I forgot to add a couple of details. When booting, it hangs at the Toshiba screen prompting for either F2 for setup or F12 for boot device selection, when you reach the log in screen it gives a number of odd sounding beeps (3 I believe), the Filter Keys box comes up, and when you try to enter the login password it will not recognize it.

    Satellite A200-TJ (9PSAE6C-TJ908C)
will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc.
I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work.
it hangs at the Toshiba screen prompting for either F2 for setup or F12 for boot device selection, when you reach the log in screen it gives a number of odd sounding beeps
That's one sick laptop. If the thing beeps on startup and even the keyboard doesn't work, I'd figure on replacing it.
Are there important files you need to rescue?

  • Satellite L505 will not start! Please help me!

My Tobisha Satellite is having a problem booting up. I am using the Satellite L505.
Whenever I try to turn on my computer the boot logo comes up, but then after that a black screen comes up with a symbol up at the top left. It stays on that screen forever, please help me!!!!

Try what drev9 said.    And you can also try repeat tries to get it to boot (hold the power button in ntil it shuts off, then power it back on again.  I once got my L505D to successfully boot but it took 3-4 tries like that.)    Or you can try walking off and just leaving it stwe a while to see if Windows  resolves the issue.   If it prompts you that Windows didn't start right, you can either try start normally or do a restore back to last restore point or whatever that other option is.    If you get the macine running, definitely back up or copy off all of your important data and pictures, before you shut it off again.
Probably what you're going to need to do is a complete Toshiba Restore that reinstalls all software back to factory configuration, and that will erase everything on the hard disk.   It's remarkably easi to do, provided you have a fast and reliable Internet connection to get all the updates installed.
I have an L505D-s6947 and it was purchased in July 2009.     It recently started having problems with starting up Windows, could not complete burning a DVD, lost some files, corrupted my original Admin account, and occasionally  the hard disk was "not available" when file writes were supposed to happen.    Doing a full Restore cleans out all the junk, it fixed my problems, and the machine runs reliable and much faster now, plus has no difficulty burning DVDS.   These computers probably should get wiped and reinstalled once a year, to keep the performance up and Windows running smoothly.

  • Toshiba Satellite C650D will not recover

after getting frustrated with a continously slower computer and being unable to install all the "free" stuff that comes with one of the free malware programs, we tried doing the system recovery by holding down zero while turning on the computer, and all we get now, every time we turn it on, is a message:
    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller x2.02.2.7(11/02/10)
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
The computer did not come with a DVD, and we don't have backup.  Checked BIOS and it is set to boot to the hard drive (HDD/SSD).  tried taking out the battery and discharging by holding down the power button.  all still the same result.  Does this mean something is loose?  Or that the hard drive is bad and that it is time to get a new computer since we don't have the re-install disk for Windows or the all the hardware drivers?  Thank you.

Hi! You can down load this freeware program fom seatools dos. If it finds your HD is ok ,then you can order the recovery discs from Toshiba, This is a ISO file and will need to be burned to a CD. It is a bootable CD and will run if even if you don't have a working OS.

  • Toshiba Satellite P105 Does Not Start up

I have Satellite P105 which was purchase almost 3 years ago (No warranty). It has a display problem and hence I use an external monitor as the primary display. Till last week, it was working okay. Last Sunday, I shut down the machine and since then it is not at all starting. When the power button is pressed, the power light glows, the HDD light blinks for a second or so and then nothing happens. It I keep the power button pressed for 5 seconds, the power LED goes off. This is happening on battery as well as on AC adapter. Also I have tried this with external monitor as well as without it but no improvement. It even does not go to BIOS setup or no BIOS message is displayed. If I insert any disk in optical drive (when the pwoer LED is glowing), it tries to read the disk and then again nothing happens. I tried replacing the RAM module but the result is same. Recently, when it was working okay, while booting, it used to give a beeping sound till windows screen appeared.
Since I am using external monitor, I might have closed the lid while the shutdown was taking place when I switched it off last time..
Can any one suggest what is wrong and how to solve this issue?

    Hi,
Thanks for your help and the probable suggestions.
The model No is S6024 and the power adapter is working okay. Anyway, I could solve the problem by doing following. I am not sure if that is what solved the issue but there are highly chances that this could be a solution since that was my last effort to start it again.
I opened up the compuer (thanks a ton to www.irisvista.com for that), located the CMOS battery and disconnected the battery from motherboard for about 20 minutes. After connecting the battery again, I re-assembeled computer and then started it again. The initial start was not encouraging but after the second try (it took slighly longer than usual to start this time) it showed the boot screen and it booted without any problems. I had to adjust the date (which is an indication that CMOS was resetted) but now it is booting without any problems.
Thanks to everybody who has gone through this post and tried to help in whatever manner they can.

  • Re: Satellite L300 - Will not boot up

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me.
When I turn the laptop on it goes straight to a black screen that offers the opton to "Launch startup repair" or "Start windows normally". However when I chose start windows normally it looks like it is going to start and then goes straight back to the same screen. When I chose the startup repair it goes to a command box for about 30 seconds and then a box saying the installed programe cannot start, click ok to turn off the computer.
I have tried starting the system in safe mode and at the last known good configuration, but the same thing happens every time and it seems that it just doesn't want to boot at all. I am really worried because all my important files are on the recovery D drive but I cant get to them.
    Any ideas?

I believe your problem would be that the boot files are corrupted on the beginning of the hard drive.
To solve this you will need to locate a boot CD of your operating system. this when run on your laptop will start it up to an area were you can repair windows. failing this you might like to obtain a copy of hiren boot disc 10.5. This will allow you to boot into a mini windows running in the ram of the laptop and enable you to retrieve your data to an external hard drive. failing all this you can purchase a upgrade windows7 disc from a computers store for about $130 which will reestablish the boot files and reload windows without loosing data.

  • Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 Will not start up

I have the above mentioned computer and it is 2 years old. Last year in January the hard drive crashed and had to have new one installed at Best Buy. Now it will not start up. When I turn it on the Toshiba screen displays with F2 and F12 options. Then the creen goes black and the following displays:
    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
    For realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.07 (080320)
PXE-E61: <edia test failure, check cable
    PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
I insert the recovery CD and it says windows loading files then has a screen that says Selecting a Process: Toshiba Recovery Wizard or System Recovery Options. I choose System Recover Options and then choose English language and US keyboard layout. Then the following screen comes up: Select an operating system to repair .... If you do not see your operating system listed click Load Drivers to load drivers for your hard disks. When I choose Load Drivers I do not know where to find the OS driver. When I click Next and choose Startup Repair it says it is unable to fix the problem automatically.
I don't want to choose Toshiba recover Wizard because it says it will erase everything. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday Feb 5!!!
During normal use of windows 7 the computer crashed and went through the same boot procedure as described by the previous poster.
Now I can't do anything with my hard drive. I tired everything. I even tried restoring it from the backup image that I have, but it said that it cannot find hard drive!
I do not have Toshiba Recovery. Can I download it from somewhere?
Does anyone have any suggestions? After booting from Win 7 Recovery Disk, I even tried fixing the MBR and partitions, but I would always get an error message that the system doesn't support the software I tried using (guessing because it's 64bit?)
Please, any suggestion is most welcome and appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Djape

  • Satellite A105 Reboot, will not start up

    Hi....
Laptop belongs to my wife and this morning I am told that it will not start up.
Problem is .... Begins to start and shows symptoms of previous post by tommy1980murf.
Quick flash of a blue screen with text, then moves onto options for Safe Start, Safe network start ...etc...
No matter which optoin is chosen the laptop goes through the process bringing up the Windows XP logo then abruptly shuts down almost like a reboot. Process automatically starts over again and again.
Options on immediate power up are F2 and F12.
Does anyone have any advice to offer?
Thanks in advance for your help ...Andy

WIll it boot into Safe Mode?  If so right click on the My Computer Icon and select Properties.  Click on the Advanced Tab, then the Setting sbutton by Startup and Recovery.  Now make sure that the Automatically Restart checkbox is NOT checked then OK your way out.  Now when the blue screen appears the system will stop giving you a chance to read it and tell us EXACTLY what it says.  Not something like, EXACTLY WORD FOR WORD.  The lines you will be needing to post will be the ones in this picture http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200409/BSOD_2.gif that state:
STOP: and a string of NUMBERS (they are zeros not letter O's)
    and the
    Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL line.
Also look to see if they list any specific driver, file, or program.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Satellite L450D-13U will not start at all

Yesterday the screen on my L450D when blank and then the machine closed down.
Now it will not start at all.
There are no lights on display when the power cable is attached.
When the start button is pressed all that happens is there is a momentary flash of the On light (not sure if that's the right name) and the DVD light.
You can also hear the fan starting up but that immediately goes off.
    That's all that happens.
I've tried without the battery, tried discharging the battery.
    Has my laptop just died?
Is there any hope or should I just move on?

I will agree with checking your RAM.
The best way to do so before you buy anything is to check each stick.
Remove the battery and AC cord, and press the power button several times to make sure the system is fully discharged.
Once it is discharged, ground yourself and pull the RAM cover. Remove the top stick ONLY. Plug the laptop back in, and try to boot it.
If you get nothing, swap the stick you pulled for the one that is still in the system, and try again.
After that, if it still does not want to boot up, take it to a shop. It could be something as simple as the BIOS battery being dead, or a burnt out power mosfet.
