Toshiba Satellite L555-S7945 KEEPS FREEZING UP

It's been happening lately. My Toshiba Satellite(windows 7 home permium 64 bits) has been freezing up with multiple, thin, multi-colored lines with a noise similar to when a sound track on a CD sticks or freezes and no mouse response or any kind of response at all. I have to press and hold the power botton and force it to shut down. I noticed it does this more often when I try to play a video game, virus scan, video call on Skype and less frequently on youtube (youtube might just be a coincidence). Sometimes after the computer restarts and I virus scan or Skype then I have no problems. I think it happens when I virus scan or skype when I have both multiple firefox and google chrome windows open at once but I cannot be sure. I've tested the theory a few times but it's inconclusive however I am confident that virus scans or video game are most likely to trigger the freeze even if they are the only thing I have open on the screen.
Sometimes I get that message in the blue box that says "Windows is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer....." The strange thing is that after I force it to shut down if I try to restart it immidiately then it will boot. All the lights will come on except the orange one in the left hand corner, the screen does not come on and windows does not load. If I leave it for 30  minutes or sometimes less after it crashed then it will restart .The funny thing is that I had this problems about 8 months ago when I tried playing a video game called A.V.A. About 2 minutes into play it would freeze with the same noise I mentioned earlier.I repeatedly tried to play the game and it happened every single time and everytime I force shut down the laptop and try to restart it right after then windows will not load and the orange light does not come on. I removed the game and reinstalled it and I never had that problem again.Since I got the laptop it has randomly restarted like 4 times and I've had it for about 1 year and 2 months but now it is just freezing up (mostly) or I get that message in the blue box. At around April of this year the game stopped working. I keep getting error reports when I try to reinstall it and my windows no longer recongnized the digital signature of the company that made the game.
I'm not sure if it's overheating,I have a hard drive or motherboard problem or if it's a software problem. I've tried:
System Restore
Defrag
Disc Clean up
Non of these have helped. I've also tried using SeaTool for Windows to try to look for errors in my hard drive and it has not found any. I've also done that thing where Windows, with the black screen and white text, check through your files for errors and corrupted stuff but that report says that it hasn't found any errors at all. My computer has no slow down in performance that I can notice. It doesn't take long to start up nor does it take long to shut down. I don't get random error reports or anything like that. It works fine except for the freezing bit.
The fan seems to be working just fine and the latop doesn't get that hot. Sometimes it freezes when it's barely warm to the touch and other times it would be significantly warmer but it would not freeze even if I have multiple firefox and googlechrome windows open. Before all of this when my game was working I use to play for hours with the exhaust at the side significantly heating up the desk and the computer would run perfectly without problems except that brief period I mentioned earlier where the game froze 3 minutes in to actually playing the game, reinstalled it and solved the problem. Yesterday it froze on me while I was on skpye and today it froze on me about 5 minutes after windows log in on youtube without the computer getting hot, just barely warm. I just don't get it!
I've try using a vaccum to clean the vents without opening the computer. I've removed and reinserted my memory just incase they were loose and I've also removed and reinserted the hard drive to be sure that it was in properly and that has not stopped the problem either.
N.B. I did do a virus scan with a trial version of Kaspersky Pure that I installed less than a month ago and it does say that I have a virus called "virus heur trojan.script.iframer" and a medium and high risk events. I've tried to remove or quarantine them but nothing happens and when I scan again with Kaspersky Pure or Kaspersky Virus removal tool they find no viruses BUT the trojan report is still there with the option of removing and quanrantine.
As I've said before I've seen no slow down in performance and it works just fine except for the freezing and the blue box message. The only noticeable problem is that both firefox and googlechrome have been just a little, little bit buggy in that sometimes I would have to close down a window and reopen it again because the pages were not loading but that's only on Facebook and a few other websites and I thnk that's because of my internet connection. As I said, I've gotten no random error reports, not from windows 7 or my browser.
Please help!

It sounds sort of like it could be related to overheating, but on the other hand, you specifically said that it doesn't always feel warm. If you're okay with backing up your files, you might want to perform a full recovery back to factory default conditions. At that point, you'd at least know whether it was due to hardware or software.

  • Dual boot issue on Satellite A200 - xp keeps freezing or crashing

Well being trying to install xp along side my Win7 installation (dual boot), but xp keeps freezing or crashing.
Ive made a few slipstream xp discs with sata drivers.
    Still wont install proper.
So i tried install win7 on the second partition and that will install but is very slow and hangs for ages.
Im sure i got right sata drivers.(intel matrix storage manager from toshiba).
    Can anyone shed some light?
    i have toshiba Satellite a200
    intel duo t5550
    3gb ram

    Hi
If you use SATA drivers then the SATA mode option in BIOS should be set to AHCI.
If you dont use SATA drivers then you have to set to compatible mode.
Here a nice description how to add SATA drivers

  • Satellite C660 11K - Keeps freezing and unable to access Windows

Recently bought Satellite C660 11K and loaded a game on to it, within a couple of hours it froze (ctrl alt delete wouldn't work) I shut it down and started it back up and got a message saying some software or hardware was stopping Windows from working.
I restored it to factory settings with the recovery disk. However I have not loaded any games or other software since, but it keeps freezing and I've had to use the recovery disk 3 times!
I don't know what else to try!

Once I've used the recovery disk it's fine for a couple of days. I've been using the internet when it freezes and won't respond to anything. When I turn it back on the error message I get is ' Windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause' it then gives the option of using recovery mode. I triedthe recovery mode before and left the laptop for over 12 hours and nothing happened. After that I've used the recovery disk, but the problem keeps happening

  • Satellite A660-07S keeps freezing when streaming videos

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite A660-07S laptop just recently, from the begining it started freezing when I am using video applications, such as Skype or Youtube etc... The freezing happens randomly and the only way to get out of it is by long pressing the on switch(forced off). I returned the Laptop many times to Toshiba authorised technician and we have done almost everything from Reinstalling software and operating system, replacing the mother board, graphic card, memory etc... and the problem is still happening. The laptop is great and does the job very well except for this random freezing which is very annoying and has no way of explaining why it is happening.
I am thinking maybe there is a flaw in the design of the system and the components do not work together very well. I have also read about few other issues with Satelite Laptops which freezes. I use other laptop and I am an IT Specialist. Never had such a problem before and cannot explain why this Laptop in particular freezes. Anyone can shed the light on what could be the problem so Technician and Users can maybe fix this issue.
As I said we tried every thing you would do to eliminate the problem and nothing has worked so far.
Thanks in advance to any replies or suggestions.

    Hey,
Im really wondering that your notebook doesnt work properly with video applications. Friend of me has the same notebook and he often use video applications like Skype, Youtube, etc. Also he watches DVDs and blu-rays but not problems at all.
He uses the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba and everything is ok.
In your case I would ask the authorized service provider again what they can do for you. I mean if a lot of parts were already replaced there must be a solution for your problem and if its a hardware related problem you can do nothing and you need professional help.
Maybe the ASP can get in contact with Toshiba directly or something else Just talk a little bit with them, Im sure the problem can be fixed.
Sorry that I cant say more but the A660 of my friend is working perfect.

  • 1 month Toshiba satellite A505 s6033 freezing randomly and blank screen on startup

    Hi,
My Toshiba satellite A505 s6033 start freezing last night when I was surfing the internet. After pressing 5 seconds or more the power button the computer turned off.  After that I start it back on but all the lights on body worked except the display.
After few more attempts I pushed arrow down and the power button the display turned on, but the freezing problem is back. So I thought that is a windows problem and I used the recovery partition to restore the state out of the box state. But the display is randomly blank when I push the start button except the other lights, and after restoring the laptop still freezing randomly in or during the windows is loading.
When I turn it on in safe mode, it works perfectly fine. When I turn it on normally, it freezes almost right away.
I bought this computer from bestbuy, but I am an Romanian citizen (sorry for my English), my question is : I can use the International Limited Warranty in my country ? Or what should I do to fix my laptop.
    Kind regard,
    Valentin

First, sorry because of my English, it is not my language and it's been a while since I had to used it.
This is happening to me, when I bought the laptop I had a few times that it froze but I thought it was something I did, and it happened once or twice in 3 months, for 9 months, maybe 4 times in the last month, it began to increase.
Then I thought it could be the temperature, and after a while, 2 months, I didn't had time, I bought a external cooler, but it didn't work... By this time my warranty expired... And thinking it could be dirt, I opened the back, but just by removing it I saw it was clean and put it back, I did nothing but opening... And again started looking for what it could be... Yes, I tried looking here, but I didn't find this topic that time, and now that I don't have the warranty I found it...
Any one here could help me? What should I do? Is there any way to fix it without buying a new video card?
I live in Brazil so its difficult for me to buy parts, I bought the laptop in the states when there, here the hardware are expensive... But if I have, I'll buy... If I have to buy a new one, could you tell me if there is a new one that I can buy that has little difference in price for the one I have and it's better?
PS: Toshiba from Brazil didn't helped me, I just spoke with then...
I thank you for any help!!

  • Satellite L300 keeps freezing

My laptop keeps freezing ... it doesn't always happen, but it's started happening regularly over the past few weeks, where all programs stop responding and I can't open Task Manager, so the only thing to do is to turn the power off.
I tried restarting in Safe mode, and did a System restore, which seemed to work temporarily, but it started happening again, and even doing another restore hasn't fixed the problem. My laptop is only 8 months old and has up-to-date Norton antivirus running; I've done comprehensive virus scans but haven't picked up anything. The freezes don't seem to be brought on by any particular software - they just happen randomly, sometimes after an hour or two, sometimes not at all, and sometimes quite soon after I start the computer.
I've also run the Toshiba Assist PC Diagnostic tool which came with the computer, and that didn't pick up any problems with the hardware. It seems likely to be a software rather than a hardware problem, but I can't think of anything I've installed recently that would cause any issues, and also the fact that no program in particular brings on the freezes makes it hard to determine what the problem is.
Other than the Diagnostic tool, the system restore and running Norton, I don't know what to do!
My system is a toshiba satellite L300, running Vista Home Premium SP1, core 2 duo 2.00GHz processor, with 2GB RAM.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks!

    Hi
First of all I recommend removing the Norton Antivirus because this tool needs a lot of hardware resources and slow downs the system.
Instead of Norton you could use the Avira Antivir.
This software is free and can be downloaded from different pages. I use this too and Im really satisfied.
Furthermore you should check if such freezing are not related to the high temperature.
You could clean the ventilators using compressed air spray. It will help you to remove the dust from the cooling fans and grilles.
    Check it!

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance
    MAT

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck
    Greetings

  • Cannot load Windows 7 - Satellite C660 keeps freezing

    Hi Everyone.
This is a biggy. I have a Toshiba AMD Vision Satellite C660 / C660D laptop with no Windows installation disc. Last week it became very sluggish, then the interface resembled that of the safe mode interface and it finally became completely unresponsive, therefore, via F8 on start- up I selected the option which allowed for it to revert to factory settings (I no longer have this option)
The DOS screen appeared and started loading as normal then that become unresponsive so I restarted only to see Windows start up for the first time and carry on loading, prior to this I had to create a boot cd from my other laptop to reboot the system as I had lost the boot mngr.
The last part of the installation process began whereby a white Toshiba screen is displayed with a green progress bar that loads certain drivers (see attachment). There are 39 steps to this process and I seem to remember from before that the computer should keep restarting itself, but it keeps freezing after about two steps. I kept switching it off and eventually the system administrator locked my accounts.
Once again I restarted the PC but this time in safe mode The operating system did indeed load in safe mode and I created some new accounts with administrator privileges, however, I am still unable to load the whole operating system as it keeps freezing during the last part of the process.
I have very limited knowledge of loading operating systems so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
First of all it was a big mistake NOT to create an Toshiba recovery disk.
The HDD recovery which you were able to start by pressing F8, is only possible if the HDD is not faulty.
I think in your case I think there is something wrong with the HDD because there was an boot mgr notification which means that notebook cannot find an boot manager in order to boot up the system.
I have no other idea as to try to reinstall the system using the Toshiba recover disk or another Windows 7 disk (of course if you own one)
If the recovery would fail, you have to investigate what hardware part might be affected. I think in such case its needed to start with HDD check.
Possibly the HDD needs to be replaced. Of course it possible that Im wrong an other part is affected but at first stage you need to check new OS installation.
A recovery disk can be ordered here:

It is not easy to say why this happen but I think it is definitely software related issue.
I don't know how many experience do you have with operating systems and are you ready to search for problem or you want to fix this quickly.
If you want fast fix use Toshiba recovery disc and install OS again. With clean preinstalled operating system everything should be OK again.
Otherway follow instructions I found on the internet:
I have few steps here that might fix the issue.
First, I suggest that you boot the computer in safe mode and check; safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed, follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:
A.) To restart the computer in Safe Mode, restart the computer and tap the F8 key for about four to five times. You will see Safe Mode listed in the Windows Advanced options. Select Safe Mode and then press enter.
Now check if you are able to work with your programs, if you are able to boot the computer in safe mode then the problem might be with any of the start-up items conflicting on your computer.
B.) You may have to perform clean boot on the computer, to help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    1) Perform clean boot (Check the link for Performing clean boot)
    2) Enable half of the services
    3) Determine whether the problem returns
    4) Enable half of the startup items
    5) Determine whether the problem returns
    6) Repeat the above steps until you find out which service or program is causing the issue
After you determine the startup item or the service that causes the problem, contact the program manufacturer to determine whether the problem can be resolved. Or, run the System Configuration Utility, and then click to clear the check box for the problem item.
Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If the issue still persists, I suggest that you perform a System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer, this replaces corrupted system files with the Version of Windows system files on the computer, follow the steps to perform a scan:
I would suggest you to empty the temp folder and later follow the steps below:
    i. Click Start>>type %temp% in the search box>>press enter>>delete everything present in the temp folder.
    1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
    2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
    3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
When the scan is complete, test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved.

  • Satellite P10 keeps freezing up

Hi I need some help, my Satellite P10 series keeps constantly crashing over recent weeks. I have run a defrag, and error checked the laptop. I've also deleted a lot of files to free up space, and im not sure what to do.
The majority of the times it crashes, it just freezes up, sometimes i leave it a moment-in case its just a 'normal' moment that the laptops having, but it is just frozen! I have to shut it down, and obviously i keep losing data due to this!
    Can someone help me out?
    Side6

    Hello Side
It will be interesting to know if you have noticed after which handling notebook freezes. In which moment the unit freezes?
It can be caused by connecting some external device (like in my case) or maybe starting some application while in background the CPU is on the limit. Is any antivir application installed and active?
Try to end some useless processes in device manager and observe what happen.

  • Toshiba - Satellite Click 2-in-1 13.3 keeps crashing

    Hi ,
I just bought a new Toshiba - Satellite Click 2-in-1 13.3 laptop and have had nothing but problems with it. It keeps crashing for no reason. When in idle mode or running an application?
I then get a message saying " No bootable device please restart system" . I could spend 5 minutes pressing the start button and then the laptop might start up again. I can hear a clicking noise at times but I have checked the hard drive using error checking in tools menu. I have also defragged the hard drive but can't sort the problem.
Sometimes the laptop will go into screen saver mode and then crash with error saying " No bootable device please restart system"
Sometimes if I am running an application I get a message saying .Application name.exe  has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I am reluctant to try a recovery process as I don't have any disks as none were supplied from Best Buy, and I don't want to get stuck in the middle of a process with nowhere to go?
And also wary that I might affect any warranty if I start doing this.
    Any suggestions Please.
    Thanks for your help

Best Buy gives you 15 days to return the computer - no questions asked. I would restore the hard drive to its original contents just once and then return the machine if it didn't shape up immediately.

  • Resuming from s2ram -f freezes Toshiba Satellite

About 1 in every 10 times that I resume from an s2ram -f, which is what is needed to bring my laptop down into standby, my computer will completely freeze. If I can see htop while this happens, it reads that 100% of one cpu core out of four is being used by the kernel. I can't check anything else at this point because my computer will be frozen. I have a Toshiba Satellite L635 and run arch i686. Please ask for any more information if it's needed. I'll be very grateful if anyone can help me out here.

Did you check the log files? At first I would suggest you look into the files starting with pm_, which are in particular relevant to suspend/resume. If there is nothing relevant in them, check messages.log.

  • Toshiba a500 18x keeps freezing ! [HELP]

    Hi!
    I have a problem :/
My computer just keeps freezing.. I own a Toshiba a500 18x bought in last christmas, I had experienced several bsods with this jmcr.sys, but i fixed that... but now i'm having several "freezes" latelly.
The Bsods stoped but this freeze thing is really annoying, the computer is normal and than just starts slowing down and the sound just becomes like crackling, like a tv untuned.. and then it just freezes you can't do anything, you can't mouse your mouse or write, you only hear the crackling sound.
I don't know what to do.. i've searched in lots of forums, I updated the card reader's driver, the BIOS driver, the sound driver, the graphic card's drive several times...
I sended my computer to toshiba like... 2 month ago because of the jmcr.sys bsods, and it came back with the same problem, the computer started to brake, like slowing down and than the crackling sound started and then bsod :/
I used the recovery disc too... but nothing!
I would be very appreciated if someone could help me!
    Thanks

I can't even go to youtube it just freezes...
That's better than intermittent. You can make experiments.
    1. Does the same thing happen when you boot into Safe Mode with Networking?
Advanced startup options (including safe mode)
    2. Does the same thing happen when you boot normally into another account?
       Create a user account
