Toshiba satellite L640 doesn't start up

Recently after a failed attempt to reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop, it suddenly won't get pass the initial screen (it won't even go to the BIOS). It only displays the screen "TOSHIBA leading innovation >>>" for some time and then shuts down and comes back to the same screen in an infinite loop. What could possibly have gone wrong?

Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections.
If that doesn't work, contact customer support at (800) 457-7777.

  • Toshiba Satellite L750 won't start at all.

Hi, I own a Toshiba satellite l750 (part number PSK2YA-04K010) and rather unexpectedly, it's just refusing to start. The lights at the front are on for the power adaptor, so it's not the power supply, and the power light flashes for maybe three seconds when I press the on button, but the laptop does not even start (no fan noise or anything". The power light seems to flash periodically at random as well. I've had the laptop since May at last year, and in December I had to get the hard drive replaced. I did get a blue screen with the message "Kernel page error" maybe a week ago, but other than that, no warning signs. If any one could help, it would be great. Thanks.

Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections.
If it still won't start, remove the battery and start with just the AC power. Next try without the AC power and just the battery. Also, check that the RAM is inserted securely. Instructions can be found in your user's guide if you need.
If that doesn't help at all, contact support in your region to seek service.

  • Satellite A350 doesn't start - BIOS failure or mainboard crash?

Hello, at first, sorry for my english:).
I have Toshiba Satellite A350-13A model and really big trouble with it: when I switch it on by the power button, power lamp is starting to shine, I can hear voice of fan for a secound - then it stops and i notice that HDD is starting to work - I can hear it and see by flashing lamp next to battery lamp, CD drive is working too, but nothing else happens. There's nothing on monitor. It looks like bios isn't starting. Let me explain what have I been doing when it all started. My computer has been working correctly but there have been a little mess on my HDD so I recovered system from recovery CDs, which I've made after buying computer. Everything was ok, system works correctly, so I started to install my software. I didn't uninstall this factory-installed program for system optimizing which is (I can't remember it's name now, but I mean this program which shows you updating for your drivers - I remember that there were updates for face recognition, video etc.) I installed all of updates that this program shows, including BIOS update. When I was done with installing these updates, I noticed that my keyboard is not working - with any button.
By the time, windows ended to doing it's update, so I switched "Turn on system again" from the windows start menu by the mouse. Then system closed itself, I saw that windows is updating itself like it always do after downloading updates, but when it all came to the end and computer should turn off and on again, I saw white screen. Computer did not restart despite I was waiting for few minutes. I switched computer off by holding power button and turned it on again. Then it didn't stand up and it's like that for now. What could happen? Is that caused by update of BIOS that I made? Or is that possible that motherboard is crashed? I think that this is connected with bios, in fact with it's absence :) But when I switch on comupter, keyboard is still not working - i can see it, because green light should appear on CAPS LOCK button when i hit it if there's a power on, even if bios isn't working. Am I right? Is there any possible to get BIOS back to fabric configuration? I'm quite confused because i have it for only two months - it's like new. I'm excluding malfunction of monitor.
I hope anybody of you had a problem like this and there is possible solution for it. My computer is still on warranty.

Hi, thanks for your answers. I've tried metod from you, benvanderjagt, to start system in the Crisis Recovery Mode and I think that it already works for my, that's a good sign. When I'm getting my battery and power cable off, clicking and holding Fn+B nad switching on power cable, there's a short lighting from power lamp. Then when I'm turning computer on, I can hear that fan is working constantly - antagonise to previous situation, when I was turning it on and just hearing short signal that fan, HDD and CDROM are working - all of theese were working for few seconds and stopping. I think that's a signal that this is really bios, not motherboard problem.
I also think that using your method, benvanderjagt, should repear my bios but i'll rather try going to the service to be sure that my guarantee will be still working after this tragical moment :)
Nearest toshiba's service which I've called to today looks quite adverse - they didn't even ask me what's wrong with my laptop and there was no chance to say that, in 30 seconds talk I just got information how to send my laptop to them by DHL courier, I've not even been informed which parts do they want - I'll go there by myself with all package.

  • Toshiba Satellite A305-S6852 wont start up

When I turn on my Toshiba Satellite A305-S6852 it goes through the screen that says Toshiba Leading Innovation screen but that goes away the screen turns black, the mouse pops up but after a few minutes. Then when I try to turn the computer off it won't turn off, I have to take out the battery and unplug the computer to get it to turn off. Can anyone please tell me how to get my computer back to working normal?

Let's just try a basic system reset and see if this helps bring your system back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, at the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, then try to boot into Windows again.
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7104 wont start up

Looking for help! I was having problems with IE not responding so decided to upgrade to internet explorer 9 during process I needed to know if I had a 64 or 32 bit. So I minimized to check on my start menu and all my icons were gone. After pulling up internet again I looked around to find solutions someone suggested turning it off and manually starting in safe mode. Usually nothing comes up. Occasionally I get Windows boot manager which says "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." It wants me to insert my windows installation disc which I do not have. I once got an error message saying "An Error has occurred error:F3-F100-0003" Most of the time it is just a black screen with a blinking cursor dot. Interestingly after commandeering my sons computer I find the internet a lot faster than it was on my new Toshiba. My security was up and running and said there were no problems however my computer had been slow and not responding for a while a lot of times it wouldn't turn off so I had to put it to sleep now it sleeps eternally. Please help my son wants his computer back and I think I want mine back.

  • My Toshiba Satellite A505 won't start up....

My pc was running fine. It shut down because we forgot to plug it in and charge it. When I did plug it in, I commenced to shut it down. When I tried to start it back up, NOTHING HAPPENED! There are lights telling me that I'm getting power, but NOTHING happens on my screen.
Can I fix this? Or, will it be covered under my 1 year warranty from Toshiba?

I have the same model, now 8 mos. old. Has worked great, until we went on vacation.I shut it down, closed the cover,I think for the very first time.It has never left my desk, so not abused in anyway.I came back after a week, opened it, turned it on, and got a white screen with vertical thin colored lines across the screen. It looked almost as if it was in the midst of defrag. I shut it down a few more times, and the same.Came on here and sombody had posted something about the battery and having it shutdown and plugged in for a period.I took the battery out, waited, tried it again. At one point I got the screen with the space for my password, then it like faded away.I finally gave up and called tech support. Useless....no clue, in spite of this similar issue posting here several times.Told me to plug in an external monitor(I had one oddly). If it worked on the monitor, I could take it to Best Buy to have it repaired under the warranty. He said to call back the next day after trying this and they would tell me what I needed to do.I plugged in the monitor, and perfect!!!At the same time, I noticed that when I close the cover part way, in order to see the other monitor, the laptop display screen was working as well. When I saw that,I lifted it up, and  it went right back to the white with lines, and distortion. The external monitor continued operating. Now seems to me, it doesn't take a mental giant to figure  out there is something going on in that hinge area.So I call back with the case number told the person(foreign of course) exactly what happened, and said, so I can take it to Best Buy and they can fix it, right?NOPE! He tells me the total opposite of what the guy the night before had said.Gives me another case number and says, I have to send it to their "repair depot" and will take 7-10 days from when they receive it!!!Best Buy can fix it, but only if you paid the extra for their warranty, not under the Toshiba one.So I'm in the very beginning stages of a brand new direct marketing business that relies on internet access....I ask for a supervisor..of course none there."Call and talk to customer service", they aren't open now, you'll have to call tomorrow.". So I have posted on Facebook never to buy Toshiba...I loved my first machine of theirs, but 8 months old, really??? and you can't replace or repair it immediately, really?? It's obvious it's some design issue, seeing there are others with the exact problem. So if you really need to use it, hook up an external monitor, or try using it only partially open and see what happens!! I'd love to know if your problem is solved if the top isn't completely open. Also read a few disturbing things on here about their "repair depots". Anybody know the real truth about those??

  • Toshiba Satellite P105 Does Not Start up

I have Satellite P105 which was purchase almost 3 years ago (No warranty). It has a display problem and hence I use an external monitor as the primary display. Till last week, it was working okay. Last Sunday, I shut down the machine and since then it is not at all starting. When the power button is pressed, the power light glows, the HDD light blinks for a second or so and then nothing happens. It I keep the power button pressed for 5 seconds, the power LED goes off. This is happening on battery as well as on AC adapter. Also I have tried this with external monitor as well as without it but no improvement. It even does not go to BIOS setup or no BIOS message is displayed. If I insert any disk in optical drive (when the pwoer LED is glowing), it tries to read the disk and then again nothing happens. I tried replacing the RAM module but the result is same. Recently, when it was working okay, while booting, it used to give a beeping sound till windows screen appeared.
Since I am using external monitor, I might have closed the lid while the shutdown was taking place when I switched it off last time..
Can any one suggest what is wrong and how to solve this issue?

    Hi,
Thanks for your help and the probable suggestions.
The model No is S6024 and the power adapter is working okay. Anyway, I could solve the problem by doing following. I am not sure if that is what solved the issue but there are highly chances that this could be a solution since that was my last effort to start it again.
I opened up the compuer (thanks a ton to www.irisvista.com for that), located the CMOS battery and disconnected the battery from motherboard for about 20 minutes. After connecting the battery again, I re-assembeled computer and then started it again. The initial start was not encouraging but after the second try (it took slighly longer than usual to start this time) it showed the boot screen and it booted without any problems. I had to adjust the date (which is an indication that CMOS was resetted) but now it is booting without any problems.
Thanks to everybody who has gone through this post and tried to help in whatever manner they can.

  • Toshiba Satellite S655D won't start.

Laptop is running Windows 7, won't start at all.  Fan won't kick on, can't hear the hard drive,.  Power light is on, as is battery light and AC light.  Sometimes when trying to start  the power light will be on, and the battery and HDD light will flash.  Also, the hard drive light will quickly flash when first trying to start
was able to have data transferred from hard drive, but don't know if hard drive is still operational. What might be the problem? thanks

Hi! See if you can burn one of these and boot with it. If the fan is not coming on that is not a good sign.http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm

  • Toshiba Satellite L300 - Will not start

I have a Toshiba Satelitte L300 Laptop, the DC in power plug was loose so Pulled it apart and refixed the adapter, it ran OK for a while.
Prior to fixing the plug, there were many times when switched on the fan would start, power light would turn green and orange at the same time, run for about 3 seconds then shut down.
It would not start again until DC power plug removed and battery taken out, then all put back in again, the same would happen again, this could go on until finally giving up.
Other times happen once or twice then run without a problem.
If all is well only the green power light should illuminate.
Other times fan would start, power light would turn green run for 3 seconds, fan stop switched off, then immediately start again then ran with no problems.
Now when power switch pressed, orange and green led's come on, runs for 3 seconds then switches off, you can not try to start it again until DC power plug removed and battery taken out, when all put back in again the same thing keeps happening.
With battery in, then plug in DC, the DC and Battery lights come on at the same time.
With Battery removed, plug in DC, the DC light can take from 3 to 15 seconds to come on.
With Battery in and DC plugged in, try to start runs 3 seconds and stops , both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Do the same again and remove DC supply only, both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Do the same again and Battery only, both DC and Battery lights remain on.
Remove Battery and unplug DC, wait around 30 seconds, plug DC in again, it takes around 3 to 15 seconds for the DC light to come on.
When plugged into DC battery charges OK.
I have changed memory, hard drive, checked all connections to the motherboard used another Power Supply, but could not find a problem.
    Would appreciate any advise.

Hi I know this is an old post but it is so similar to my problems (seems common) I wondered if anyone has any suggestions?
I have 2 L300's  one had a broken screen for a long time so I used it through my tv and worked well till a few months back when it refused to switch on as above.
I was then given another L300 (bit better spec with a web cam) That died last week when the power jack snapped inside so I decided to make 1 good one out of 2 no go's. I thought the problem was the hard drive on the one with the broken screen, so swapped screens and hard drives but the same no boot problem is happening :?
I have taken out the battery and plugged in (with thedifferent hard drive from original ) and got  'status oxc 0000411 and hyberfil sys errors
I changed back to the original hdd and still no go. I then took out the ram? gave it a look over and put it back and it started fine in safe mode and normally. I then turned it off to let it charge fully (which it is) and now it won't boot up again, fan and cd is working and I still have my system restore disk
I have XP on one hdd and vista on the other.
    Any idea?
Also can anyone tell me if the ram and hard drives and any other bits are interchangeable?
The one with the web cam (in bits now) is Model PSLBOE 07 JOOSEN :? if that helps
and the one I am trying to get running is

  • Satellite M35X-S349 doesn't start up

My laptop satellite M35X doesn't start up. I press the power button. Then the hard disk green light binks once. The fan or hard disk makes a sound for a couple second. Nothing is displayed in the screen.
Nothing happens after that. I've tried to boot from a CD, but the hot keys doesn't work (press power button, then "C").

    Hi Sergio,
From your description of the problem I would suggest that you have a hardware problem on your notebook. The initial POST is failing when it checks your peripheral devices and this is preventing the BIOS from loading correctly. I would suggest you try to remove/reinstall the RAM modules, the Hdd and The Optical Drive. If the fault still persists then you will need to refer to a Toshiba authorised Service Partner for further diagnostics.

    Hello,
My Toshiba Satellite L500D won't start.
When I start my laptop the three lights on the left light green, the two on the left are not green or red. I hear the coolingfan, no beeps at the startup. When I start the laptop with a systemdisk it's the same, nothing happens.
I contact the supportdesk and they said that it could be the harddisk, this sounds a bit strange to me because I can't start it with a systemdisk.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction

    Hello,
The notebook is my dauther's and I'm pretty sure she hasn't update the bios. She is 14 years old and she does what 14 year old girls do with their notebook. Gaming, hives, chatting etc.
What she told me is that she had some problems when starting the notebook. It didn't start correctly, she had to push the powerbutton several times, sometimes maybe like for half an hour or so, then suddenly the pc woke up and did start. SInce a few days nothing works anymore.
The screen stays black and I hear no beeps, just the coolingfan and sometimes a noice asif the hd was trying to start. The coolingfan also doesn't run properly, it makes a sound like an automobile that runs irregular

  • Toshiba Satellite Won't start up

I have a toshiba satellite L655D-S5095 laptop. I bought it from a rent to own store. It came with no discs or a manual. I was online this morning when my PC froze up and stopped responding. A blue box with a message about the bios. I turned it off and back on All I can see is a black screen with a spinning circle. I then took out the battery and plugged it up straight and tried safe mode to use recovery but it shows no dates anymore. I used f8 and ran the start up tool but it didn't work. The only thing that's left is the recovery wizard. Do I need the start up disc also with this? Will windows 7 home premium program still be on my laptop if I use wizard? I am afraid of messing it up to the point of no return. Please help
