Toshiba Satellite L870-177 graphics card change?

A question about the Toshiba Satellite L870-177
Can you replace the graphics card in the laptop?
Currently, an AMD Radeon HD 7670M, 1GB, HDMI is inside and find this a bit .... modest, so I would like to replace it with a better
is that possible? Have often read in other forums that you can not replace graphics card, so the question

To elaborate for others what you hopefully already knew about your setup.
Alot more trouble than it's worth since the GPU is name brand but frequently customized for the PC maker and even further customized for the particular chipset / cpu setup.
Tampering with those values is possible to varying degrees using purpose built LINUX distro's however the modifications are community based and anecdotal without manufacturers validation, the alterations can be damaging and Toshiba will be unsympathetic for rendering warranty assistance if they detect your alterations.
And that is why the process won't be as simple as upgrading a desktop GPU with a compatible boxed CPU.
I applaud your question and I'll spare you from elaborating why you want better graphics or which games you're unsatisfied playing since your dis-satisfaction and performance desires are uniquely your own.
Before you consider the tempting unsupported mod's I mentioned, you want to ensure your AMD's turbo is running full speed in the overclocked but unsupported manner AMD's are famous for and should determine if your games perform satisfactorily by overclocking the CPU's clock.
In respect for Toshiba, I'll avoid linking to the sites that describe overclocking AMD's since I personally find it unnecessary and the web has endless pages on the matter that you can assess yourself.
AS you suspect, overclocking assassinates your warranty but a gaming purist such as yourself already knows this and is unconcerned about warranties when striving for the best gaming experience possible.
Ask your question often enough and it will invite challenges as to why you find the card insufficient and eventually raise contemptuous advice to just live with it and tamper your expectations.
I refuse to pass judgement since your computer is yours and you're free to squeeze all the performance you can as long as you remain aware of your responsibilities when doing so.

  • Fan noise after graphic card changed - Qosmio F10-101

Two months ago i have had my graphic card changed from nvidia fx 5700 to nvidia geforce go 6600.
from my laptop toshiba qosmio f10-101. After changing the old graphic card there is a fan noise that starts and stops every 2 minutes , that it drives me crazy every time i'm hear it.
Can somebody tell me if this noise is natural and if he/she knows if the specific card is noisy in every laptop? or If there are any ways to disappear this noise or increase in the maximum speed the noise.??

  • Satellite A300D - 14R - Graphic card is defective, need new one

Hi, I'm an Italian user. I have got this notebook from about 3 years. Usually I use this notebook to view films and surfing on internet. Yesterday I installed a game, medal of honor as specification, but after two minutes my Toshiba shutdown. At the restart, it shows me many artefacts before loading bios screen. Now at the start-up the screen remain black however the notebook seems to work regularly.
Now, how can I do to solve this problem? Maybe if I am replacing the graphics card, my computer may begin to work as before.
    What do you think about?
Can I ask to Toshiba or AMD another graphic card 3650 to complete this operation?
    Thanks to all... :)

Try with www.google.com > if you cannot find it Googling around then I really dont know how to help. Fact is that you cannot order this single part by Toshiba service providers.
Your only chance is to find some independent online shop where you can order it. Mostly such parts will not be offered as new one but as already used but well working parts.
It is not so easy to handle with such problems. What you can also try is to find defective A300D (defective CPU or display) and exchange GPU.

  • Toshiba satellite l870-147

Hi is it possible to replace a non working video card on this laptop ?

    Toshiba L870-147 Specifications
This is the peer support forum for Toshiba USA. While you are still welcome here, yours is actually a Toshiba Europe model.
Your unit is essentially the same as a Satellite L875-S7245. Given that you have an Intel processor and chipset, and an AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card with 2GB of dedicated VRAM, your video card is technically replaceable.
However, having been through this myself, I would warn you that you have to find a Toshiba AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card. You will NOT be able to use a retail AMD Radeon HD 7670M card, nor one from an HP or any other laptop manufacturer. Toshiba uses proprietary connectors to their motherboards, and tweaks the chips to work in their systems.
Finding the same laptop model you can use for parts, or a Toshiba that uses the same video card maybe eaiser, and perhaps cheaper, than finding the card itself.
    Good luck.
    Mike

  • Satellite L650D-15K - graphic card issue

    Hi,
I updated accidentally the driver of the graphic card ATI Radeon 5650 on the laptop, and afterwards during gaming and video watching, the computer became very slow, the CPU usage is average over 60%.
I uninstalled the newest driver, reinstalled the driver of my module provided on the Toshiba website (not the one on my computer, as I cannot find where it is), but the problem remains, I do not know if the driver from the website is the same as the one on my laptop. It seems that there are some driver files which always cannot be deleted entirely. If I reinstall the whole system, I would install and activate all the software.
Can someone tell me what should I do now?
    Thanks.

Have you installed this newest driver from ATI support page or from Toshiba download page?
I mean it is recommended to use Toshiba drivers only. I cannot confirm this but Ive heard that installation of non-Toshiba drivers can change some important values in GPU BIOS.
Of course you can reinstall recovery image and start to use notebook with factory settings again.
It will be interesting to know if everything will be as before again.
Back-up all your important data, reinstall OS, test it and please post some feedback.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 Graphics Card Upgrade/Replacement

I have a Satellite Pro 6100 p4-m 2.0 30gb and the graphics card has died. I love this laptop.
It had an NVidia GeForce4 420 Go 16mb
Can I replace it with a GeForce4 420 Go 32mb from the same models.
Is there something more powerful available that works with no problems for the 6100? ie. GeForce4 440 Go 64mb?
    Cheers

Usually toshiba didnt offered a separate graphics card update but there were different graphics cards installed in your machine and THEORETICALLY you can use every of these cards in your machine. I cannot promise it but they should all work in this machine.
The problem is that you have to disassemble the machine completely and if you make something wrong then you know that there is no point of return since your machine is not anymore in the warranty. Maybe it would make sense to give the machine some technician to exchange the graphics card.
Unfortunately I cannot tell you which graphics cards fit in your machine or which partnumbers are needed. In this case youre on your own.
    Good luck

  • Macbook Graphics Card Change

I have a early 2008 white macbook with an Intel GMA X3100 graphics card inside. Lately, many of my programs have become slow, making me think that my grahpics card is too old. Is there any way to change out the current graphics card in my Macbook for a newer version?

what programs are you talking about, it could be that your hard drive is getting full and you don't have enough RAM. The slowness you talk about might not be related at all to the graphics, unless you mean streaming video from the internet or real-time 3D racing or airplane simulator type games, of course.

If you're not interested in why nouveau doesn't work, you can mark the thread as solved https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130309
If on the other hand you want to dig into this, please provide more information e.g. some logs, check systemd's journal.

  • Satellite P100 (PSPA6E) Graphic Card Trouble NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900

I have big trouble with my graphic card!
Sometimes the whole display is a kind of "broken"... everywhere are kinds of artefacts to see, yellow "blocks" which are everywhere on top of all
opened tasks / windows like a kind of semi-transparent "mask".
I already tried to reinstall driver without success. Even if I shutdown and reboot the system... no success.
The failure is remaining, maybe the 512MB memory of the geforce is broken? Sometimes it happens that the failure is disappearing from a moment to another
    moment...
I really need some help... at the moment I´m writing my diploma and I really need my notebook for working.
    regards
    Christian

    > The failure is remaining; maybe the 512MB memory of the Geforce is broken? Sometimes it happens that the failure is disappearing from a moment to another
According to your description it looks like a hardware issue but its not easy to say what could be wrong exactly.
You could try to connect the external monitor to the notebook and could check if the same would appear on the second monitor. If the same would appear on the connected monitor then a graphic card problem could be possible.
Did you use non-Toshiba graphic card driver? If yes, then this could be the reason why the graphic card malfunctions. Fact is that non-Toshiba graphic drivers dont support a GPU overheating protection and in such case the GPU could overheats.
Therefore a 3rd party graphic driver can be used ONLY at your own risk!
However, if there is a hardware problem an ASP must be contacted!!!
I really dont see another solution s to ask an authorized service provider for a check.
    Best regards & Good luck

  • Laptop Toshiba  Satellite 3000 - problem graphic device

    Hi,
I have installed Solaris 10 on Toshiba Satellite 3000, but it was able to install resolution 640x480/60Hz only. How can change it to higher resolution?

Look into the kdmconfig command, if you're talking about the GUI that is. Solaris has a nasty habbit that if you configure XSun during the installation it'll "drop back" to the X.org server. kdmconfig can change that again if desired.

  • Graphics card change

    Hello,
How do I disable the onboard graphics card and start to use the NVIDIA GeForce 840M built-in card?
I recently own a HP Envy 17-j199nb notebook
    Thanks,
    Patrick

The graphics chips can be replaced on the boards, replacing for a better model line gpu is possible in some cases but the amount gained is minimal & the cost quite large.
swapping motherboard can be good option but that too is only a great solution in somes model range cases & a good high spec motherboard is not cheap.
One of the most important things to review when purchasing a notebook is the gpu, most other things can be upgraded with ease in comparison

I don't think it's possible to upgrade the GPU. You would need to sell that notebook and buy something designed for 3D Performance such as the P750 or X770, or something like the Qosmio F750.

  • Vista on Satellite L300D-10A - Graphics card resetted after renstallation

    This is my story.
A few weeks ago my computer had crashed, so I decided to renstall Vista (Home Premium). After I did so, I noticed a lot of things had changed. For example, my screensaver didn't work anymore, and certain programs said they needed a video card wih 3D support. I knew i had a video card with 3d support, as these programs worked fine before the renstallation.
Then I looked around on the web, and I found more posts from people with the same problem, so I looked if I had an installation disk of the latest video drive for my video card, but i haven't got one. So, now I ask if someone knows where I can get the latest version, so I can continue using these programs.

    Hello
Please don't understand me wrong but the whole story is somehow strange.
Fact is that every Toshiba notebook is delivered with factory state. Your notebook too and after first start you got default Toshiba settings. What you have done later nobody knows. Maybe you have installed some additional software and third part software. Who knows?
Now after clean OS installation you have these factory settings again and absolutely identical state after purchase and first start. this with screensaver is strange but it should work (Windows screensaver).
Software configuration of your notebook is not known to us and it is not easy to say what you are missing exactly.

  • Satellite Pro M30 graphics card not working when driver is installed

    Hi all,
Im having problem with my nvidia Geforce FX Go5200, in a Satellite Pro M30 laptop, (Intel Pentium M processor 1.7 GHz, 512 Ram). This card was working fine suddenly the notebook stops.
I have formatted the notebook and installed Win XP PRO. After installing the VGA driver I restarted the notebook but black screen started coming up right after the Win XP splash screen appears. The notebook continues to start up but no screen.
It starts just fine in safe mode. I get my best screen by simply disabling the geforce card or uninstalling the driver. I tried to install a new driver for the VGA from the Toshiba download site but same problem appears. I have also tried updating BIOS but nothing happens.
    Anyone can help me?
    [email protected]

It is very strange issue. It will be really interesting to know if this happen when you use delivered recovery installations CD.
Anyway I presume there is some problem with LCD display. In safe mode the desktop is shown in lowers resolution but when OS starts the resolution will be adapted for standard one (1280x800) and obviously there is the problem.
I am not technician but I recommend you to contact service partner. As far as I know they use special tools and programs for display tests. They can tell you more.

  • Satellite A500 Issues (graphics Card freezes when Gaming)

Hi Everyone hoping you can help!!
I recently purchased my Satellite A500 Laptop and I have 2 extremley bad issues!!!
Firstly apparently my model number doesnt exist it is PSAM3A-04100E which is proving to be a right royal pain in the preverbial when it comes to upgrading to windows 7!
    Secondly is my major issue,
I do a lot of gaming (sims 3, Callof Duty that sort of thing...) and whenever I am playing I think wow this is great excellent fps great graphics and then FREEZE!!! my computer completley locks up and shuts down, no warning signs of lagging slowing down or anything and it does it constantly!!!
I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from this problem or whether I look should look for a driver update I have searched around but cant seem to find it anywhere.
I dont really want to take it back to the shop because then I wont have a compuer for weeks!
Any help would be massively appreciated,
    Many thanks
    Tasman

    >PSAM3A-04100E
Where you bought your notebook? What is the country of purchase?
    New Zealand maybe?
Please visit http://www.toshiba.com.au/ > New Zealand and you should find your notebook model there but as I can see Win7 drivers are not available at the moment.
Next week I will get my Satellite A500 and I will test it with Call of Duty 4 and let you know how it works.
Anyway before you start the game stop all useless running processes and set power plan to full power. Be also sure your notebook can take a breath and cooling fans are not blocked somehow. Put also back side of your notebook on two CD boxes to have higher distance between notebook and the desk.
I hope everything will works well.
