  • ITunes causes DVD drive to fail in Toshiba Satellite laptops

This seemed unlikely to me and I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and/or suggestions.
This morning I discovered that the DVD drive on my Toshiba Satellite laptop wasn't working - Device manager said it Failed to Start (code 10). I called Toshiba and they asked what was the last thing I'd done on the PC. When I said, "Updating iTunes," they said that was the problem, due to an interaction between iTunes and Toshiba Satellite laptops.
Sure enough, uninstalling iTunes fixed the DVD drive.
So now I have to install / uninstall iTunes every time I want to update my iPod

Another thing to check on is a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
(One of the applications I' seen conflict in this way with iTunes on a Vista system is HP memories Disc Creator Software, which comes bundled with some HP digital cameras.)
... however, if you're still getting no CD/DVD drive with just the iTunes filters in place, you may be one of the unlucky ones who are getting the issue discussed here:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
Although it wouldn't necessarily be a short-term thing, keep an eye on that document for updated information about the issue.
In the short term, one workaround might be to use a different application to rip the CDs, and then use the "Add to library" function to get the ripped files into your iTunes. (That way you wouldn't have to continually uninstall/install iTunes.) The following document might be of some help with that:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
EDIT: sorry Jason, didn't notice you'd already replied here. Didn't mean to butt in.

  • Toshiba-Satellite Laptop Model C655-55225 stopped working after 90 days

I purchased a Toshiba - Satellite Laptop on 9/30/2011, it completely stopped working on 1/5/12. The laptop was not even used until 12/25/11, as it was a Christmas present for my husband.  I called Customer Service at Best Buy because Toshiba Customer Service has been of no help, only to be told to call Toshiba.  When I called Toshiba the first time they had us run some diagnostics on the laptop, which did not help at all.  The computer will not even power up.  Please keep in mind this laptop was gently used and well taken care of for the two weeks it was in use.  There were no bumps, drops, virus or spills.   I have spent a small fortune on products at Best Buy this holiday season and this is how they treat their customers?  They offered no suggestions or help at all with a product they sold or offered to intercede with Toshiba.  I can tell you with all certainty I will never buy another Toshiba product nor darken a BestBuy entryway.  The customer service is equally awful with both companies.

Did they give you any other reason why they wouldn't send it out? It is a pretty common procedure to send it out under manufacturers warranty and I am surprised they would shoot you down. Did you talk to geeksquad or just customer service?

  • Actual dimensions for Toshiba - Satellite Laptop A665-S6050?

    Good Morning Everyone,
    I recently purchased the Toshiba - Satellite Laptop / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 16" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive - Slate Model: A665-S6050 | SKU: 9988697.
I would like to purchase a sleeve for this laptop, but I can't find the true dimensions online.  I don't have the laptop with me, so I can't just measure it.  The specs I'm finding online list the width as 4.2 inches.  Clearly, this is an error.
If anyone has the actual length, width, and thickness of this laptop, please reply.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Clicking noise from new Toshiba Satellite laptop?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A5195 (Windows 7 Home Premium). It was bought brand new around 3 weeks ago. I've noticed that, besides the fan noise, the bottom of the laptop makes a clicking or buzzing noise. The laptop has blue screened twice, something about memory management. I don't really mind the noise, I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with the laptop's hardware.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

With any physical sounds like that, it can be really hard to know if it's something serious or not. Hard drives, optical drives, and fans all have moving parts that can cause noise.
In regards to the blue screens, have you installed many programs? Do you know what you were doing when they occurred?

  • 2 toshiba satellite laptop problems

    These are my problems
    1. My HDD indicator is blinking even when I do nothing ( blinks every half second or so)
    2. When I go somewhere my display turns off and when I move my mouse display turns on but nothing is happening. Everything is standing still (sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 2 or 3 minutes ) and than he is ready to work.
    Upgraded BIOS to version 2.20
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A300-PSAG8E
    anyone know the solutions?
    Need help please! Thank you

    Sounds like windows search.
Windows search provides content indexing, property caching, and search results for files, e-mail, and other content.
I used the administrative option to stop and disable it. It's reversable and can be restarted and set back to automatic.

At first I thought it was the virtual memory settings causing all the hd activity (thrashing) but I noticed it was happening when the system was idle and the machine has 4gb of ram and very little of it actually used.

  • Toshiba satellite (laptop/tablet) stylus support

Has anyone gotten Photoshop CC to work with the hybrid laptop/tablet systems such as the 15.6 inch toshiba satellite system?  normal function work great with the mouse, but do not work at all with the touch gestures or compatible stylus.
    thanks,
    Vinny

C.B., You assumed correctly as I did use F5/F6 to move the devices up/down until my CD/DVD was at the top. I tried going in and using HWSetup. As soon as I ran HWSetup - it just confirmed that my earlier selection was already present (CD/DVD in first position).  I also tried pressing C as you suggested but that did not work either.
I appreciate your input. I have one more shot at Best Buy to see if the Geeks can solve this dilemma (which I doubt). I may just throw up a video on YouTube to show the BIOS failure of this system.
It's too bad, I used to love Toshiba until this incident. I have a Toshiba laptop from 2004 that is still kicking (and it does boot from CD/DVD). I have even spilled a 1 gallon jug of water all over it - and it came back to life after it dried. I don't know if all P855-S5200s are like this or if I just got a POS. That coupled with the fact that I had deal with that less than knowledgeable and extremely rude tech support rep. Because of the those factors, I will take my computing dollars elsewhere.
    Hey Toshiba....are you paying attention??

  • Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Will Not Boot, Safe Mode Not Accessible

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I am trying to help my mother-in-law (I know, who does that!?) with her laptop. Because of the boot problems, I can only offer you limited info on the specs, but here is what I do know.
    Toshiba Satellite
    Model Number PSAE6C-TJ908C
    2 Gig RAM (assuming DDR2)
    HDD is a Toshiba MK2035GSS 200Gig
    OS Windows Vista
    Bios Version 2.60
    Problem:
First it would boot ok in one user account, but when booted in secondary account it would act odd, ie caps lock stayed on when not pressed, etc. Deleted secondary account, ran Windows repair function, now I cannot access the primary account, will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc. I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work. (New keyboard which was replaced in December, warranty has since run out, thank you Staples.)
Any and all help greatly appreciated. I'll answer any other questions you have as they come up, I realize I may have left out some key details.
I forgot to add a couple of details. When booting, it hangs at the Toshiba screen prompting for either F2 for setup or F12 for boot device selection, when you reach the log in screen it gives a number of odd sounding beeps (3 I believe), the Filter Keys box comes up, and when you try to enter the login password it will not recognize it.

    Satellite A200-TJ (9PSAE6C-TJ908C)
will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc.

That's one sick laptop. If the thing beeps on startup and even the keyboard doesn't work, I'd figure on replacing it.
Are there important files you need to rescue?

  • Toshiba Satellite Laptop -- Won't power on or boot..

I can't get my Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5881 (model #: PSLC8U-00D010) to power up or boot. It is plugged in and the power light is on. I've tried re-seating the memory, hard drive and battery. I've also tried plugging in a monitor to see if it was the display. So far, no luck.
Any suggestions? Do these symptoms sound like the power supply, hard drive or mother board?
    Thanks.

It still won't boot so I bought a different computer.   The funny part is my A45-S150 is 8 years old and works very well and runs with a Linux Opsys.

  • CD/DVD will not boot up for P855-S5200 Toshiba Satellite laptop - Rude Tech Support

Hello. Has anyone else tried changing the boot device order on this computer, only to find that their laptop boots right up to Win 7? I pressed F12 just like it states in the manual (and then pressed F2 to enter setup). I changed the boot order so that the CD/DVD boots first and even went as far as to have the HDD boot last. I saved changes and rebooted. To no avail, it still boots right up to Win 7. So I called Toshiba tech support for assistance. The tech support(less) rep was real quizzical wanting to know why I wanted to boot from my CD/DVD. There are different programs that I have on CD that boot directly before the OS (for example, I like change things up a bit and run Linux once in a while). For some reason this guy didn't like that I wanted to  boot off my CD/DVD from my laptop. Frankly, he didn't buy the computer and it doesn't matter what  or why I want to boot from a CD/DVD. It's a brand new computer that does not function properly. I called Toshiba Tech support to fix a flaw in the computer that was sold to me. Anyway,  I was trying to explain but he kept cutting me off and was very rude. He told me that since I have followed procedure in the manual correctly, that I'd have to go to Toshiba's Advanced Technical Support for a fee. REALLY?! One of the simplest procedures that I have performed on every box I have ever owned, and this guy didn't have a clue to make it happen on a new machine. Instead offering any more explanation than Advanced Technical Support, that rep just hung up on me. Evidently his tech support training consisted of trying to squeeze more money out of the consumer after the purchase. Swing and a miss Toshiba.  So, if anyone has had similar issue with not being able to boot directly off CD/DVD (especially if there's a work around) I'd really appreciate it. If not I'll probably go to Best Buy and they can keep this Toshiba. Thanks.

  • Toshiba satellite

Laptop shut down and now won't power back up. Getting flashing orange light on front of computer

My Toshiba satellite L760 is almost 3 years old up until last year I didn't have problems with it until it started to show me it's not charging(even though it's plugged into the wall) it is now out of warranty. Now my laptop gets very hot and I am scared it could cause a fire(so now I'm afraid to get on it very long) and it shuts itself off randomly so for it being only three years old it shouldn't be doing this. I've called Toshiba twice with the first time they told me it was a virus and wanted to charge me 199.99 for the year and I know that a virus wouldn't allow me to restart my laptop each time. I called them today and was told it was a motherboard problem, I paid 760.08(tax included)and don't ever abuse my laptop and I just get on it for my e-mails and to send them plus play mahjong games here and there. I'm just wondering why this happening now(a friend of mine and my own brother each have Toshiba satellite laptops without any problems and both get on theirs more than I'm on mine) can anyone tell me anything about my problems and thanks

  • Toshiba Satellite won't go past Toshiba welcome screen.

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was shut while running and sat overnight without power so it was basically sleeping.
In the morning, I turned it on and it froze on the Toshiba welcome screen which is the first thing you see when you start up the laptop.
The keyboard and mouse wouldn't work which didn't let me go into safe mode.
Also, the little cylinder light that indicates when the computer loads was completely on and stayed on.
    It runs on Windows XP.
And now it does this everytime I turn it on and won't go any further.
    Please help! Thanks!

The computer is not finding a boot device or files. Go into the Bios and check the Boot Priority. On most Toshiba Satellites, you either hit the Escape key or the F2 key to get into the Bios. Make sure that the first boot device is the hard drive. Often you will see this abreviated at HDD. Also make sure that the hard drive is being seen in the Bios. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios you are not going to boot into Windows. Guaranteed. If the hard drive is being seen in the Bios and is the first boot device in the Boot Priority and it is still not going beyond the Toshiba splash screen, then you have a major software problem. In that case the only option is run the Recovery CDs and see if you can reimage the hard drive. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios, this could indicate that the hard drive is not properly connected to the computer or has gone bad. In that case, you will be talking to your friendly Toshiba authorized repair center for diagnostics and repairs.
