Satellite M45-S269
Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) and expand Sound, video and game controllers. Double-click the sound device and tell us what it says for Device status.
Wouldn't hurt to reinstall the driver.

  • [FIXED]Toshiba Satellite m45-s359 brightness issue

    Hi all.
I recently replaced the screen on my Toshiba Satellite, as it had a large crack in it. Thing is, the new screen is WAY too bright. What was once white is now a blinding light, and what was once pitch black is now a light grey. The battery life has been affected as well.
So far, with this laptop, it's been an uphill battle. The keyboard, although it has a brightness Fn key, hasn't been recognized by any distro I use, much less Arch. So keybindings are out the question. I have laptop-mode-tools installed, but there isn't a "video" folder in "/proc/acpi". The "/sys/class/backlight/" folder is empty as well.
Anything anyone can offer on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I've tried using xbacklight, but I get
    xbacklight -set 50
    No outputs have backlight property

That is pretty much it.  It is a single .c file, a README file, and a Makefile.  Let me try to compile it when I get home to see how it goes.  I'll tar it up and send you a copy by email to the link in your profile.  You will need to compile it for your system.  I'm pretty sure a module compiled on my system won't fly on yours.
Edit:  No, actually.  I recall it is built as a kernel module and was built by slipping it into the kernel tree.  Not that tough.  I'll throw together some notes.

  • Toshiba Satellite M45-Windows XP Home Edition SP2

Whenever I startup the laptop described above in the subject box, it trys to boot up but then I get the message:Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM then it says press r at the first screen to start repairs and when I do that nothing happens even when I push it repeatedly. So when I try to run recover I get the message: Media Test Failure, Check Cable. I have no idea what to do anymore. For one what cable do I check and how do I get to it?! And also, how do I get to the CD Drive on the thing?

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
The System hive supplies one of the most important branches of the registry. Without it, Windows will not run.
    Microsoft suggests this fix.
How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting
That takes a good deal of technical competence. It also requires either a Windows XP installation CD (any version) or a floppy drive. If you want to attempt it, I can help.
Just for the record, it's easy to prepare for those registry errors. When they occur here, it takes only a few minutes to repair them.

  • Satellite M45-S331 - iLink Port not Working

My Toshiba Satellite M45-S331's iLink port is not working. I am trying to stream high quality video from my Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV350 to my laptop, but the laptop does not read the camcorder when using the iLink cable. The cable is fine because my father's laptop can read the camcorder using the same cable. I went to device manager and it says that the IEEE 1394 Bus host controller is working, yet it won't read the camera. The laptop reads it just fine using USB. I contacted Sony and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the iLink capture card, but I am not completely sure how to do that or if it will even work. Has anybody else had similar problems, and if so how was it solved (if it was ever solved)? Thanks for any feedback.

they told me to uninstall and reinstall the iLink capture card, but I am not completely sure how to do that
Do it this way. In Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), right-click the 1394 Host Controller, and click Uninstall. Reboot Windows to reinstall it.
I too don't know whether that will solve the problem.

  • No sound when playing video from iTunes on a Satellite M45

    Hi,
After trying to play a video from iTunes on a Toshiba Satellite M45, the entire sound system went out. I think there is something wrong with the sound drivers or it/they can't be detected. I'm new to the PC world and any help in easy-to-understand terms will be grateful. Is there any destinations where I can download a new driver.
I need to fend off the insanity that's creeping in. Thanks.
    Caden

    Hi
I think you should firstly check the device manager if there are any yellow exclamation marks near to the sound card.
If yes so the sound driver reinstallation could help.
It seems that the notebook was designed for the US market. (because of the 5 at the end of the number)
So I think you should take a look on the US Toshiba site for driver updates.

  • I cannot Install Toshiba Power Saver on my Satellite M45-S169 - Code: Ox7E

I cannot Install/reinstall/remove/run Toshiba power saver on my Satellite M45-S169. after I have reinstalled the system (now it is Windows XP Professional SP2). When I tried to open Power saver via control panel I got accessed denied and every time I reboot the system I get the error message:
    Toshiba Power Save
A fatal error has occurred. This programme will be terminated.
    Code: Ox7E
I cannot neither remove nor reinstall power saver. Can I try to run power saver for Windows XP SP2 applicable for other laptop models? I could not find the one for my model. Which one will fit? Any other solutions/advises to the problem?
    Please, help
    Thank you a lot, Oksana

    Hi
First of all you have to known that this notebook was designed for the US market and all drivers, tools or any other Toshiba utilities should be used from the Toshiba US website.
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please ensure that you have already installed Toshiba ACPI Common Modules before you will continue with any further Toshiba software installation.
One important hint; the Toshiba power saver profile must be chosen in the Windows power options!!! Dont forget this!!!

  • Toshiba M45-s269 Windows won't start-missing or corrupt file

    Toshiba M45-s269 Windows xp sp3
Recently got the message upon a restart that "Windows cannot start because a file is missing or corrupt" then names the file "<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe."
Screen show options to restart windows normally, in last known good config, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt or with networking.  All options only have the result of a 2-minute freeze-up and returning to the same screen after showing the Toshiba splash screen.
I was able to F12 at splash screen which gives the option of what to reboot from: Multiple discs, single disc, floppy or networked.  Otherwise all options have same looped result notifying cannot start due to missing/corrupt file.....
Having the factory recovery disc, I was able to select the single disc option with F12 at splash and try running a recovery from D:/.
The disc, however, says it will reload Windows 98 (the computer came with  XP Home) and wants to re-format which will blow out EVERYTHING I have on the hard drive which is NOT an option for me!
A while ago I was given a disc from a friend that has XP Professional. I have been trying to restore from that with less than expected results. Have gotten to a DOS promt and tried to COPY the file from XP Pro disc but being told cannot find the file. I'm most likely not doing something right. Don't know what destination to send it IF I'm able to copy the file anyway.
Tried to load XP Pro on hard drive but computer sees the Home version and gives the message that loading 2 OS's is not recommended. Was hoping that XP Pro would simply over-write Home.
Any help appreciated.  Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Hi
Setup CD is not delivered with your notebook, just recovery CD and recovery CD does not offer repair option.
Try to obtain Microsoft Installations CD. Talk with your friends. I am pretty sure someone has this WXP installations CD. Check if you can do something using R option.
Check also what Microsoft wrote about this issue:

  • Satellite M45 refuses to boot at all

Greetings! My Satellite M45 seems to be quite sick! It all started a while ago as the battery slowly died, and eventually, the laptop would refuse to go to the BIOS on the battery's power.
I ordered a new battery (which I am still waiting for) and continued to use the laptop on external power, but every now and then, it would refuse to boot on external power.
On pressing the power button, the "TOSHIBA on touch with tomorrow" screen comes up - albeit with a problem - then hangs (with the fan on). The problem (other than hanging) is that the screen is "displaced" to the left. Instead of filling the whole screen, the boot screen "ignores" the rightmost 2 inches and the bottom half inch, and is displayed in the remainder of the screen. Its a bit hard to explain...
This morning, its refusing to boot at all!
Any ideas? I've tried reseating the ram, powering on without battery, only on battery, I have removed all "extras", and am at quite a loss now!
I can't get to the bios menu either - so its highly frustrating!
    Any help would be great!
    Michele

I feel your pain. Saturday morning I awoke, came into my home office, sat down and pushed the on switch and the light around the switch came on, then 3 seconds later went off. Nothing!
I tried again and again, with battery, without, with power cord without. I called tech support, they had me repeat everything I had already done. My M45-S269 is now sitting across town at the authorized repair facility. Where it will presumably be repaired for only $95.00 per hour labor, plus parts. I imagine I'll loose the 1200 songs I have in iTunes and the several hundred photos from the past year. Best of luck to you.

  • Satellite M45-S165 New Battery won't charge past 25%

    Hello,
This is a Satellite M45-S165 running Windows XP SP2.
I just put in a new battery from Technuity sold at Circuit City. Followed the instructions and let it charge for 10 hours before using it. The laptop was turned off while charging.
Turned on the laptop and Toshiba Power Saver said that the battery was only charged to 25%. It just won't let it charge any more than that.
I shut down TPS from the task manager and opened the Windows power meter on the control panel. After running on just the battery for a while I tried to recharge it. But the windows power meter is showing that the battery is charging, but that is stuck at 3%.
The battery is new, so any idea about what is keeping it from charging completely?
    Thanks.

    Hello
At first I must say that you have done everything correctly and this issue is probably not because of the battery (I hope you bought the right one). The question is is there some problem with power supply electronic.
You must understand that it is not easy to offer simply explanation to such issues and to find out what is wrong there it is necessary to run diagnostics program and check power supply electronic functionality.
This can be done by authorized service provider only. So you must make decision what to do. Make a call and ask them what can be the reason for this. Inform you what can be done with it. What else you can do?

Don, this situation can often be repaired by booting to the Recovery Console and running..

It runs for a long time.
If you don't have an XP installation CD, you may need a floppy drive.

Hi, I have Satellite M45-S355 laptop.
When i try to boot from cd.. It passed cd boot screen and starts windows normally.. DVD drive is working normally.. Reading CD's, DVD's..
And also i try to boot from external DVD - Drive.. But i didn't boot from that drive too.. And also i didnt boot from usb because this computer doesn't support usb boot :/
What can i do ? Don't say change your computer =)
I'm waiting your supports.. Please help me..
(But i also have to say that i was booting from cd/dvd drive.. But one years ago, my CD/DVD drive was not reading CD's only reading DVD's.. And i gave my computer to Toshiba and they changed DVD drive.. After they changed drive, the drive can read CD and DVD but now it can not boot from cd ) !

    Hi
Possibly just this particular recovery disk cannot be read by the CD/DVD drive.
Copy/burn the Recovery disk to another disk which can be handled buy the CD/DVD drive.
I made good experience with TDK R disks.
Use another computer to copy this disk and then try to boot using this new disk

It's a long shot, but unplug it from the AC, pull the battery and hold the start button down for 10 - 15 seconds.  Replace the battery and plug in the AC and try again.  If that doesn't work, you're probably going to have to have it serviced by a Toshiba ASP from the list you can get to by clicking the 'Repair' link at the top of the page.

There's no space for an adapter.
You can safely install a 120 GB IDE drive. Larger capacity drives may run into a BIOS limit.

  • Satellite M45-S331 Laptop; ACPI Bios in this system is not fully compliant

Can you please help w/ a booting problem?  I installed a new HD (WD Scorpio Blue PATA 160 GB) in a Satellite M45 Laptop; then imaged using the Toshiba Recovery and Apps DVD to Windows XP.  (DVD labeled TK143/PMAE00213012).  During re-image, the first displayed text/first routine said "Windows 98"; but the final image was Windows XP.  That seemed odd, almost like the image was an "update" from 98 rather than a fresh XP image; or perhaps it's nothing at all...
When powered on, it progresses past POST to the TOSHIBA screen, pauses, then displays this Blue Screen:
"The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit www.hardware-update.com for an updated bios. If you are unable to obtain an updated bios or the latest bios supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation."
    Technical information:
    ***STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011, 0x00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256841
The "F7 trick" (from above) doesn't seem to work, but I'm not positive the right time to touch the F7 key.  hardware-update.com is not running anymore.  I'm not sure what BIOS I have, but thought I saw 2.0 at an error screen. Is there a new BIOS to fix this?
After a crash, I get the option of booting to "safe mode", which I usually take.  It still gets the blue screen.  What do I do do get this machine to run?  Thanks in advance for the help!!

Hey there, have a question for you...
I have the same issue that you do, on my flex 2-15 ideapad. You mention that you were able to get windows 7 to install and boot on your ideapad.
HOW did you accomplish this one?? I am at a loss... Windows 7 starts to boot, but freezes as soon as the animation begins.
Maybe I could help you (not positive, but will try) with your issue if we could figure out what to do about my BiOS.

It??s very similar to your issue.
It seems that your CMOS chip where the BIOS is stored has developed a fault.
In order to solve this issue the BIOS must be re-flashed
But BIOS reflash cannot be done if you cannot access the OS. So you are in an awkward predicament and only an Toshiba ASP could help you.
