Toshiba Satellite P205-S7469 DVD Rom Replacement

Does anyone know how to replace the DVD Burner in a Toshiba Satellite P205-S769?  I am assuming that I need to remove the keyboard in order to get to the drive.  Is this similar to other Satellite models where I could simply remove the keyboard securing strip?

You assume incorrectly.

  • Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 - DVD Burner unable to read DVDs only CDs

    Hi,
Trying to reinstall Vista on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 laptop but the optical drive will not read any DVDs at all only CDs. So I'm unable to install Vista which is only on DVD but WinXP on CD is detected and installs OK except for XP driver issues which makes loading XP useless. I have been at this problem for few days scouring various internet forums which mostly speak to the registry issue with lower and upper filters. But if I can't get the OS installed then those solutions don't apply to me. I need help. Anyone..anyone???

    Satellite P205-S6267
    You're in luck!
Your model belongs to part-number family PSPB0U, which corresponds to part-number family PSPB0E for computers made in Europe.
Go to the European download site and look up the Satellite P200 with Short Model No. PSPB0E.
When you filter on Windows XP, you'll find 36 items listed.

  • Toshiba Satellite L305-S5909 - DVD ROM / CD Drive will not Run CDs

I have a Toshiba Satellite Model Name: L305-S5909 Part Number: PSLB8U-05302F running Windows Vista 64 with Service Pack 2. The Drive in my computer is, Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ88OES
I really don't know when this started but we just discovered that our DVD / CD Drive will not run any CDs or DVDs inserted. When I check My Computer or Windows Explorer the Drive shows up. Also I checked the Device Manager and it's there also. I have tried uninstalling the drive and letting Windows Reinstall it and that did not help. I have also upgraded the computer bios also no results.  And I have tried different disks, cleaning the optical eye, etc. The eject command from the computer works but will not run anything inserted.
    Any Ideas?

i had the same problem with my L505D-S5965. you are going to most likely have to replace the dvd drive. the optical eye burned out in mine and from what you have already tried to do to fix it. that is probably what happened with yours. if it is under warranty you can send it to the depot or take it to a toshiba service center near you. if not you can change it yourself.it not to hard.
    hope that helps

  • Satellite A200-23P - DVD-rom mechanic not working

I am sorry for my English in advance this topic! - Thanks
I have very big problem with my DVD writer (rom).
I bought SAT A200-23P three weeks ago.
The OS Win VISTA was installed. DVD-rom worked good.
If I installed Win XP to second partition on my HDD (before I make install disc with driver for sata disc in nlite) and installed all drivers and utilities for Toshiba notebook, I found that my DVD-rom does not respond while I press eject button.
DVD mechanic does not respond for eject in the XP and not even in BIOS!
Interesting is, DVD mechanic is detecting in BIOS, is detecting in XP, operating system XP votes - DVD mechanic working correctly - its fable.
However, if I installed XP on second partition, Win Vista does not load :(
I don't have a second chance for second selection (Vista and XP).
I have now XP only, even if Vista is on first partition - I didnt delete it.
Do you think the DVD-rom is HW or SW problem?
I think, seeing that DVD-rom not respond in BIOS - HW error.
But is very strange, if I install XP from DVD mechanic and close then is done, DVD-rom not working ... : (
If I open it manually and insert the disc, DVD not working (led diode not blink, just if I turn computer off, led blinked once).
    PLS help me somebody -
    THANKS!

    Hi Michal
Your issue is very strange I mean the CD/DVD drive issue
Fact is that the CD/DVD drives eject function should functions no matter what OS was installed on your notebook. It has nothing to do with your software on the HDD.
So I wonder why the eject button works with Vista and not with preinstalled XP OS ?:|
My only plausible explanation is that sometimes there is a loose connection between the notebook and the drive. At the other hand the issue could be related to the hardware problem too
As you see its not easy to say whats wrong exactly we can only speculate.
Now some details about your dual OS installation.
You cannot choose between the Windows XP and Vista because the Vista boot manager was overwritten during the Win XP installation.
This happened to me too. I have installed Win XP on my Satellite and was not able to start Vista.
The solution was easy; I have used another original Vista DVD (from my friend) and booted from this DVD. The Vista has renewed the boot manager and then I was able to boot the Vista.
Then I have downloaded the tool called Easy BCD.
This tool can change the settings the Vista boot manager. I have edited it and inserted a new Windwos XP OS entry.
    Thats it!

  • Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114 Hard Drive Replacement

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114, and the hard drive is broken. The hard drive model is MK4025GAS. Where can I buy it? Can I find cheaper one interchangable?

You can use any parallel ATA drive that is jumper selectable as 'master'.  Cable select only drives won't work.  Local stores like BestBuy usually have a selection of replacement notebook drives although the PATA drives are getting harder to find with the spreading use of SATA drives.  To the best I can determine, your notebook has 48-bit LBA which would allow any size drive available.  There are a number of online vendors as well as local sources.  I've used NewEgg successfully in the past.

  • Old Toshiba Satellite with broken CD-Rom now needs a new hard drive to reinstall OS and drivers

I have a very old Toshiba laptop with an unworking Cd/DVD drive. Recently the internal HDD crashed and is unrepairable due to a broken hardware issue. I purchased a new Internal HDD and installed it then attempted to reinstall from the recovery disk using an external DVD drive. This did not work as the computer forces me to utilize the onboard CD/DVD drive. Besides the original HDD crashing after 5 years of use this is still a pretty good laptop which is why I would like to find a way to fix it. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it very much.
As an aside I do have a SATA USB cord and if it is possible I might be able to utilize it and the disk to install/recover the new drive and then install it this way however I don't know if this will work. Thanks.

The new Toshiba laptops will allow you to run the Recovery from the USB ports, with either a flash drive or an external DVD drive. Unfortunately, the old Toshibas don't have that option. Your best choice is to replace the broken DVD/CD drive. After that you should be able to run the Recovery and start again.

  • Satellite M35x-s349 - DVD-ROM Drive not reading

    I have a Satellite M35x-s349. I got it around late 2004.
It had this problem for a few months and I had submitted to not being able to read or write cd's/dvd's because I couldn't find my recovery discs. When the whole comp crashed I renewed my efforts, found them, restored it with the help of an external HD case, backed up and restored my comp. It was working great. I burned cds and watched movies with no problems for a couple months.
Now it has stopped reading any kind of cd again. I put one in and the little disc flashes next to my cursor. I hear movement inside (both whirring and the eye moving) but after about 20 seconds it gives up and claims there is no disc in the drive. I don't want to have to do another system restore but I can't even read the Restore disc to reinstall the driver. Are there any thoughts on why this is happening if not any solutions? Any way to reinstall the driver online? I'm a mid-level comp user so I can understand most tech jargon you throw my way. I can usually solve my own problems but this one seems hopeless.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    -Tom

A friend of me has a Satellite M30x. As far as I know this is the same model as you have but for the European market.
His CD/DVD drive was faulty and had problems to read the disk. He bought a second hand drive from eBay and exchanged it by his self. Now it works again and exchanging the drive was pretty easy.

  • Toshiba Satellite P205 S7454

    I bought a Tosh P205 S7454 about 18 months ago.
It works really well, except that periodically - maybe twice a week - the screen goes grey and it hangs. I have to restart it and it reboots.
I have two questions - does anyone know why this model isn't listed on the Toshiba website, and has anyone else experienced this problem?
I've seen some posts on other forums with people referring to something similar, and some people reckon it's a BIOS issue - my BIOS is version 1.00.
Should I update the BIOS, and how do I do it my PC doesn't exist according to Toshiba?

Your MODEL IS ACTUALLY  P205D-S7454.  That concern is RESOLVED!
Bios update could resolve, but not necessarily, to many issues can be incurred. Have you done a video card driver udate reently? Or, you could deinstall the display device and reboot, let new hardware wizard reinstall device.  When the error occurs do you check the Device Manager for any errors identified?  Is there external usb devices istalled, remove and learn what occurs about this concern.

  • Toshiba Satellite L3** CD/DVD issue !!! Here is my solution. How about you?

Hello everyone. Nowadays, I see on this forum people are discussing about the CD/DVD issues on L30/L300/L350. I would like to share my experience on this issue and hope everyone shares your experience as well.
My laptop are Toshiba L30 PSL33 and Toshiba L300 PSLB2E. I am lucky that I have no problem with CD/DVD discs/drives as I can read/write/play CD/DVD smoothly. However, I used to have some problems with CD/DVD drive on my notebook. Here is my experience.
    1) Make sure there is no other CD/DVD softwares on your computer (except the orginal software from Toshiba). Especially to those who have been used to using Nero. If you have problems, try to remove Nero and test with the one supported by Windows
    2) If you still have problems, try to update the firmware of the DVD drive. It can be done by visiting the Toshiba Support Driver site (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/). Check what drive you have by looking at the Device Manager. Download the newest firmware from there and update your drive.
    3) My last solution. If you have Vista pre-installed, try to get a XP version on your computer and do not install any other software. Test/copy a CD by using windows writing tool to see whether the problem is solved or not.
In my opinion. the main reasons you may encournter are: there are CD/DVD drives have XP firmware base and need to be updated so that they can be used in Vista; or there are software like Nero and PowerDVD are causing the conflict between the ACPI controllers (real and simulated).
Hope this may help you all. If you have other experiences, please share with everyone.
PS: Please excuse my language as I am not an English speaker.

  • Toshiba satellite p205-s7438 blank screen issue goes blank non responsive as well

Satellite: P205D-S7438 is the computer i have bios version 1.7 and mine runs vista home premium it runs fine then the screen just goes blank backlit and non responsive sometimes on the web other times after going to sleep have tried everything does this only on ac power battery works with no issue when it loses charge plug back in goes blank after so long and then have to power off with power button boots back up on battery at times will not boot from just ac adapter very intermittent issue ran mem test all passed hard drive passed tests as well changed inverter but have the same issue any ideas?

I've got exactly the same problem on my P205D-S7438, running Vista Home. It is happening more frequently. Someone at Toshiba must know about this. What is wrong with my computer?

  • My Satellite P205-S7469 is having trouble booting up

It was lagging and being generally unresponsive this morning, and I had to shut it off with the button. I wasn't too worried, but when I tried to start it up, it got stuck on the loading screen with a black background and © Microsoft under the loading bar. I tried again., leaving it for more than 10 minutes, but it still wouldn't advance past that page. Next, I tried that Launch Repair option Windows was giving me, and while it would get passed that one screen, it wouldn't bring up the next page, just stuck on a blank screen. Then I tried Safe Mode both with and without Networking, but it just stopped in the middle of the page where it shows all the files that it's loading. My last resort was Last Good Configuration, but that did the same thing as trying to boot it up normally.

Hope you have a good and recent back up. Sounds like the hard drive has crashed. Could be corrupt software or a bad hard drive. I would continue to play with the computer for awhile and see if I can finally get it to turn on and boot up properly. If it does, take the opportunity to backup all your data again. Run a Defrag and see if you can't fix the drive.
If the fixes don't work, I would run the Recovery disks and see if that fixes the problem. It could just be corrupt software or a virus. If that doesn't work, you are probably going to need to replace the hard drive. You can always try to get your files back from a hard drive recovery place, but it's expensive and may destroy the drive.

  • Satellite A200-23U - DVD-ROM problem after firmware update

Hi! I have A200-23U (TSSPcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H). I update firmare first to TO02, then to TO03. None errors was shown. After reboot my device is locked (doesn't open/eject by button or by any software) and ImgBurn (for example) can't find any writers. In system devices now it's shown as:
IDE\CDROMTSSTCORP_CDDVDW_TS-L632H________________*BOOT*____\5&1AC5D6C0&0&0.0.0 (I think there must be *TO03* but no *BOOT*)
What's wrong and how can i fix it?
PS Sorry for my bad english .)

I won!! TSL632H_TO??.exe - it's just SFX-archive that can be unpacked by WinRAR (for example). And then we got SFDNWIN.exe program and firmware dump file (*.bin) separately, which can be used to upload firmware without any checks (compatible/non compatible).
    *WARNING!!! NO ANY WARRANTIES!!!*

  • I need the XP drivers for Toshiba Satellite P205-S6327

they're not on the site anymore, and i really need them, i have no soun webcam or anything

This unit shipped with Vista, so it can be assumed you did a downgrade to XP, thus the no XP drivers listed.  You can do an uninstall of the sound device, reboot and allow the New Hardware Wizard to reinstall the driver. Also, try going into Device Manager and locating manuf name and going to their website for XP driver.
For the webcam concern-Device Manager-should be a Chicony component--Select Browse my computer for the driver software.
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Select USB Video Device from the list, and click Next.  REBOOT.

  • Broken CD-rom in Toshiba satellite harman/kardom

    I have Toshiba satellite laptop
    but CD rom is broken,
So, I have External DVD rom(USB)
and I want boot from External DVD rom and install Windows 7
But When Press F12 , Dont have choice for external CD rom
    what can I do?

When asking a question on the Forum, please include the computer model with the question. You'll get a better answer that way. Depending on the computer, some will allow you to boot from an external USB DVD drive and some of the older computers won't. In your case, your computer does not give you the option to boot from the external USB drive. Best option is to get the CD-ROM drive replaced and try again with the Windows upgrade.

I am working on my notebook Toshiba satellite P205-S6277, 80% of my time at home.
Can I take off the battery and connect the power to a backup UPS in order to make battery life longer?
I can charge it once a week.

Of course you can do this. You can remove the battery and work on AC power supply only. Be sure there is no dust on the desk and the battery place on the notebook stay clean for further usage.
