Ok so i have been looking at different places to buy this laptop, and i would really like to buy it from best buy.  The problem is that your website says that this notebook does not have a BD drive/reader ....both of the Toshiba site and new-egg list that it does have BD reader....so why does yours not since they are the same exact laptop?

THANKS!

If it has the same model number it should be the same specifications.
The item you linked to on bestbuy.com is a marketplace item and is not sold by Best Buy. In this instance it's shipped by Buy.com. So the shipper might have the specifications on the page wrong.
It appears best buy does stock a very similar model as to the one you linked, which looks like it has a faster processor, includes the blu-ray drive and is a little less expensive.

I have AMD A8 Vision processor and this laptop is onlt two months old. There is no virus or resistry problems as I ran AVG and Registry Mechanic. I don't mess with anything and am upset to have a problem so soon.
Th laptop has AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6620G Graphics chipset. I looked under the AMD Vision Control Center and it has a 2D Driver version 8.01.01.1134.
I would have to send this in to be checked as it is too late to return. Any suggestions or I could take to an area shop to be checked. If the driver needs updating I don't want to mess this new computer up. It has all the newest Windows updates on it. Would Microsoft office 2007 do this? I have added very little software to this computer other than the printer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I ended up calling Toshiba Tech Services. I actually got an american in the US that I could understand. He was very nice. He had me take the battery out to refresh the computer and restart it. He then had me go to start and type in msconfig. The Catalyst was in there and the box was checked and he had me uncheck the box. He said the newest Windows update changes things on the computer and that this was to be left unchecked as it shouldn't start up when the computer does. He said this is on the computer to help with software compatibility issues.
I haven't had a problem the last few times I started it up.
I ran the updates in the Toshiba Service Station and no new updates I needed.
This is the first time I have called Toshiba in a few years as my Qosmio X505-Q880 works great except I will need to update the nVidia driver on it soon. I get errors every so often on it recovering after not responding.
    Thanks for your help.
    Have a good day.

  • How do I hook up the audio on Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 to TV

I have a Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 notebook and I am trying to get the notebook audio to play out my Insignia™-(22" Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LED-LCD HDTV-NS-22E450A11) TV.  The only connection I could see working to stream video to the TV from the notebook was with a RGB to RGB cable.  That worked for the picture, but not the sound.  I bought an audio cable with one end that fits the headphone out hole on my computer and the other end has r RCA plugs that fit into the red and white audio holes on the TV.   The cables and the TV are color coded with  red and white plugs and everything seemed to fit properly, but sound will not come out on the TV. I am wondering if anyone out there with a L555D also has an Insignia Tv and can tell me how to hook up the audio.  Also, I read that the RGB cable is provides the lowest quality picture.  Is thee a better way to hook up the video?  I would appreciate any information anyone can share !  Thanks, Cindy

I looked at the specs for your laptop and there is no HDMI out port for this model but RGB & Headphones out jack should work. Here is the link for closeup views of the ports.

  • LINUX : Webcam mic non-functional on Toshiba Satellite T215D-S1150

I've been trying to get the webcam mic on my Toshiba Satellite T215D-S1150 notebook/netbook to work in Linux Mint 9 Isadora KDE 64-bit to no avail. My model has a Realtek ALC269 audio chipset combined with an ATI southbridge ( ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40) ) using the "snd_hda_intel" kernel module. I've attempted using basically every combination of settings in "alsamixer" that makes sense. In addition to that, I've tried adding the "options snd-hda-intel model=" parameter in "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" starting with "basic" and trying every combination of "Input Source." I've also tried the "auto", "lenovo", "toshiba" and "3stack" models, but nothing works -- In each instance I get nothing when I try "arecord -t wav -f cd filename" and/or try-to-capture-sound/access-the-mic in eg. VLC Media Player or Skype where in the case of VLC I've tried "Open Capture Device..." where I've tried every possible audio device node with "Audio device name" and in the case of Skype I've tried "Skype Test Call."
My ALSA system information for the default model and the model "basic" respectively can be accessed here :
    http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=5a7e986d7cad81213d2ef64f02ae478c7994c4d7
    http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=f334a100b0c173875d838e57e42e7c23d98da8b7
Currently I'm at a loss as to what the problem is or what further action to take.
I'd be grateful for any assistance.
    Thanks,
    jdb2

Most of the webcams support what is called 'UVCVideo' which is a generic video device; the generic video driver in the Linux kernel is able to support the webcam. Some manufacturers may put legacy cameras which requires a few extra steps from the customer's side.
Regarding the mic not working; audio/sound support is handled by the Linux kernel and the ALSA subsystem, http://www.alsa-project.org/ New audio hardware come with small variations which require equally small adaptations in ALSA. The laptop manufacturers tend not to help with this small information and it is up to the customers to inform the ALSA project.
For both devices, try out the latest version of Linux (such as the Ubuntu 10.04 distribution) in case these have been resolved from the work of other customers.
For the webcam, run the command 'lsusb' in a terminal window in order to identify the exact identification details. From those details it is possible to decide what to do next.
For the mic issue, if it is not resolved in Ubuntu 10.04, there is a process to extract the full hardware details of the sound card and use those details to help solve the problem.
You would need to execute the command
    wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash ./alsa-info.sh
and then post the resulting file to a forum to help you. This forum does not support attachments, so when you are prompted above to send the details to www.alsa-info.org, select Yes and post here the URL with those details.

  • Replace my notebook drive in a Toshiba Satellite 5100/5105 - Experience?

I plan to replace the failing CDRW/DVD-drive in my Toshiba Satellite 5100-503 (european version, it was sold as 5105 in the US and other countries).
    The built-in drive is a UJDA730.
As upgrade I consider the highly regarded a Slimline DVD+/-RW drive. Unfortunately, some research on the internet revealed that upgrading a notebook's optical drive is not as straightforward as one might hope. I had no trouble removing my old drive (you only have to remove the keyboard and unscrew two screws), so I consider myself capable of putting in an new drive instead. However, two problems remain:
-mechanical compatibily: The 6500A appears to have a different front bezel layout. Its eject button and LED are in a different position than that of my current drive, so I doubt I will be able to use my old bezel with the other one. In addition, the bezel of my old drive has a recess in the lower right corner (similar to that found on some Fujitsu-Siemens notebooks), which gives room for the volume control of the notebook. So I cannot reuse the old bezel, and the NEC's bezel will probably not allow me to close the drive's tray. I wonder if some Dremel-work on the plastic parts of the NEC drive will allow me to fit it in physically. Has anybody tried that?
-electronical compatibility: notebook drives generally do not have jumpers to change their Master/Slave/cable select configuration. Instead this is set within the firmware, so changing it requires flashing a new firmware, which is not easy to come by and hard to do if your drive is not even recognized. SO I need to find out whether my notebooks needs the optical drive set to master, slave. cable select or "inverse cable select". Can anyone help me here, either by own experience or by directing me to an appropriate source on the web?

@chris_cool: I very well know that the drive is not removable like the one in the 5200 or many other notebooks. But it is simply wrong that it is "only replaceble with the same model". Slimline drives are standardized, so their mounting holes, connector placement etc. are not the problem. The only problem ist the front bezel (which is made of plastic, and I won't hesitate to cut it to fit to my notebook) and the master/slave setting, which, since it usually cannot be changed via jumper like in standard IDE devices, has to "fit" to the notebook. My primary question is what master/slave-setting my notebook expects from an optical drive. Since the usual system utilities cannot discern a true "master/slave" setting from a master/slave configuration derived by using "cable select", I don't see a way to find this out myself.
BTW: I don't care too much if the bezel of the new drive doesn't look too good on my notebook, as long as it works.
Especially since I will get superior functionality (DVD-recording) while probably paying less than for an original spare part. And going with an external drive is absolutely no option, since I would have no optical drive when taking the notebook along. Even if I did lug the heavy external drive around, most of them need an AC adapter. Some are powered via USB, but since my notebook has only USB 1.1 which only transfers a (theoretical!) maximum of 1,5MByte/s, this would allow reading and writing of CDs at a maximum speed of about 6x-8x. Less functionality, less comfort, and a higher price -> no option.
    @danielgaspar76
Do you happen to know the configuration of the replacement drive you bought? Is it in a master, slave or "cable select" or "inverse cable select" configuration?
You say you changed the front bezel... I think this only worked because the drives are from the same manufacturer. I doubt I will be that lucky with the NEC drive, since LED, eject button etc. are in a different place. I don't mind cutting the NEC drive's bezel to fit. It won't look pretty, but I am quite confident that it can be done. Yet not a 100% sure... ;-)
I am not too much concerned about the recovery CD, since I am using Linux with the notebook anyway.

  • System frequency on a Satellite A100-01L notebook should always be high

    Hello,
Because I am a battlefield gamer there is a speed problems with my notebook.
It is a Satellite A100-01L notebook with 1.73 GHz normal system tact. (2 GByte RAM, 120 GByte HD).
The system frequency changes between 800 MHz (without hard job...) and 1.73 GHz (if it seems to be necessary). In the system BIOS its possible to select a 800 MHz (named slow ') or a dynamic clock speed (called: 'dynamic' modus).
My question is: was it possible to set the system clock always to 1.73 GHz?
    Thank you.

Hm, usually there should be also an option "High" or something like "Always High". So, I suggest you to perform a bios update and then to check if such an option is available.
Otherwise you should look into the toshiba powersaver and make sure that everthing is on maximum.

  • Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114 Hard Drive Replacement

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114, and the hard drive is broken. The hard drive model is MK4025GAS. Where can I buy it? Can I find cheaper one interchangable?

You can use any parallel ATA drive that is jumper selectable as 'master'.  Cable select only drives won't work.  Local stores like BestBuy usually have a selection of replacement notebook drives although the PATA drives are getting harder to find with the spreading use of SATA drives.  To the best I can determine, your notebook has 48-bit LBA which would allow any size drive available.  There are a number of online vendors as well as local sources.  I've used NewEgg successfully in the past.

  • 2 x 1GB 533/667 RAM not working in Satellite M40-289 notebook

    Hi all.
I have recently tried to upgrade the RAM in my Satellite M40-289 notebook.
The support site says it can take up to 2Gb of 533MHz RAM, in two 1GB sticks.
So, I bought two AData PC2 4200S 533/667MHz RAM sticks and installed them, but they do not work, either singly or together - the computer just goes into a beeping hard drive grinding death spiral until I remove the battery.
They do, however, work if I install one of them with the original stick. What I am figuring is that as they are 533/667 RAM sticks, on their own they are trying to run at their top speed, but with the factory stick installed too they are slowing down to its speed and running correctly.
So, I have increased my RAM from 512 to 1.5Gb for the price of 2Gb, and have a useless stick of laptop RAM.
Flashing the BIOS did not help this - the update which was posted on the Toshiba site last year for my notebook upgraded the BIOS from v1.2 to v1.2. Go figure.
Is there any way of forcing the RAM to run at the correct speed? Is there a hidden BIOS update that could solve my problem or is this likely to be something with the RAM?
    All help is gratefully received.
    kind regards
    Grey_Area

Hmm. The matched pair I bought said they would run at 533 or 667, but didn't run together. I only got one to work when laid next to the 512Mb module that came with the laptop and only runs at 533. Fortunately the reseller bought the RAM back from me so I am not out of pocket, but I think then I have to try and get hold of another 1Gb module that only runs at 533 if I want to have access to the full 2Gb max RAM that the laptop will take.
Thanks for you response, I did not know about the FSB thing though. Cheers. We'll have to see what I can get up to!
    kind regards

  • Is my Toshiba Satellite L35 Motherboard bad?

Here is my story, I have a 4 yr. old Toshiba Satellite L35 laptop that all of a sudden 1 month ago stopped showing anything on the screen.  I replaced the AC adapter and then placed a new hard drive-Still the screen does not show anything.  The On/Off light comes on and stays green, then the ac/battery light comes on and stays green, but the hard drive light just appears for a few seconds and then turns off and NOTHING on the screen.  A computer repair guy says that it is the motherboard.  What do you guys think?  Can a motherboard just "go bad" with nothing done to it (like the computing dropping on the ground, or a drink spilling on it).  He says he can replace the motherboard for $50 labor only (I would buy the motherboard myself).  I feel that I can probably replace the motherboard myself.

if you think it is overheating try cleanin it out. cleaning notebook vents.
if you want to really get in there and clean it out. A305 disassemble.
but only do the second if your warranty is over.

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro A10,Windows XP Service Pack 2

    Hi everyone,
    I have a "Toshiba Satellite Pro A10: P4-M 2.2 GHz/XP Pro/15" TFT/40 GB/768 MB".
I installed the Windows XP Service pack-2 in my notebook.
After updating to winXP SP2, the only way to start up my comp after putting it in "standby mode" or "hibernation mode" is to witch power off and then start up.
I reinstalled "Toshiba Power Saver" but nothing came of it.
What can i do about it?
    Kind regards,
    Krasteff

    Hi Krasteff
Your problem is difficult. If I had it, I'd try to make the status of the OS as clean as possible.
Try killing as many of the funny SYSTRAY applications as possible - means the small icons in the SYSTRAY. Some of them will not be killed that easily. Don't spend hours trying...
Then also try killing any, as You mentioned, antivirus or other services that are not necessary for the system. Check also that You do not have any USB / PC Card devices attached to the system.
    Then try again.
Works better? Then "walk backwards" means try attaching the devices / starting the applications one by one and retry Hibernating. Keep track of what You reconnect/restart so You know what You did last when the system fails to start up again. There You have the cause of the problem and then You also know where to look for the solution.
    Hope it helps!
    BR Tom

  • Satellite L50-A00V Notebook missing compatible High Def Audio Device Driver

    Hi
    I bought a Toshiba Satellite 15.6" L50-A00V Notebook
    Features
PROCESSOR: 2.4GHz Intel Core i7-4700MQ Quad Core Processor
    SCREEN SIZE: 15.6" Display
    RAM: 8GB RAM
    HDD: 750GB HDD

Bluetooth: Toshiba Bluetooth V4.0 (High Speed)
    LAN: 1Gbps LAN
    Wireless Connectivity: Intel 802.11 b?g?n
    Connector: HDMI?USB3.0
Running windows 8 now upgraded to 8.1
since the minute I brought this notebook home a couple days ago its had driver issues and toshiba service station was nothing but a PITA it did work and nor did any of the other bloated software that came with it.. later when upgrading to 8.1 hoping that would fix a few probs, it made my driver situation worse..
anyways i have removed everything via a clean install (but left the recovery partitions etc for safe keep, and made a recover disc) anyways even after clean install i am still missing the High Definition Audio Device driver.. in device manager I get a exclamation mark next to it..
the other drivers that were missing i had downloaded their drivers from the manufacture and they all were fixed accept this driver.. i bekieve its a realtek driver, which I went to the site and their latest driver didnt help..
can anyone please help find a working driver please, im trying my best not to send it back, but if i cant get its drivers working, then the hell with it, im send it back monday morning and claiming a refund...
so please if anyone can save me the hassle of claiming a refund, i would really appreciate it..
    thanks

    Hi
The notebook seems to be released for Australian market.
I did not find the Win 8.1 drivers on the Toshiba Australian driver page but only Windows 8 drivers.
However, it seems that the sound card was made by Realtek and the Realtek HD audio manager should be installed.
Try this driver which was released on Toshiba EU driver page for the similar notebook models: [Realtek Semiconductor Corporation v 6.0.1.7023 Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=7948&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=46&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=88586&OSI D=46&driverLanguage=42]
Generally speaking I would recommend you to download and to install the common Windows 8.1 64bit drivers from the Toshiba EU driver page because such drivers are missing on Australian driver website.
Would recommend you to install the Intel chipset driver as well as the nVidia driver because the HD audio can be related to the nVidia graphic chip too.

    Hi BC,
A series of beeps (usually in a pattern of long and short) usually indicate a problem with the main-board in your notebook. Unfortunately, there is no published documentation about the beep pattern to assist with interpretation so the usual advice is to refer the notebook to an authorised service agent who can run diagnostic tests against the notebook.
The normal boot sequence is to run a POST to check the viability of the system basic components followed by the BIOS load and then finally the operating system. The symptoms you are experiencing indicate a problem in the POST, but without suitable diagnostic equipment it would be difficult to pinpoint exactly.
