Toshiba Satellite U40T-ASP4261SM - TouchPad is locked or Driver issue?
Hello friends,
I just got the new ultrabook, which I'm happy with, however the touchpad stopped to work suddenly, if I connect a USB Mouse it works fine and also the touch screen is also working, but I need the touchpad to work.
seems like it locked somehow, or is it a driver issue?
I'm using the default OS: Windows 8
Could anybody help me with this matter, please
Thanks in advance
Try resetting the Bios by going through these steps
>Properly shutdown the laptop by the shutdown button or by holding the power button for 4 to 6 secs
>Hold down the F2, then press F9, Set to default, Then press F10, Save and exit..
> Your computer will be restarting again then try to move or use the touchpad after logging in to your account ///
Also try using F5 to enable and disable the touchpad..
Let me know if there would be any changes.... ^_^

Toshiba Satellite C855-SS530 touchpad issues: left-click randomly releases
Brand new Toshiba Satellite C855-SS530 Windows 8. My touchpad will very often respond erratically. As I hold down on the left button and scroll, often times scroll will randomly release and then sometimes re-engage. This will happen with web pages, holding windows, etc. I'll be dragging a window or file or what-have-you, it will release the hold of it's own accord (without me releasing the left button) then sometimes re-engage (picking up other random files, selecting stuff on the desktop or other random things I didn't want to do). Most often I am holding down the left button and scrolling down a web page, and it will randomly "let go" of the scroll (before I have let go of the left button). Occassionally the touchpad will not immediately respond. It's too annoying to keep this laptop.
It isn't clear to me whether this is hardware or software related...Could be a bad button, bad touchpad, loose wire, or even a memory-glitch error which disrupts the touchpad signal. Does anyone know if this is a known issue with the Satellite C855-S5350. The touchpad is vital. It can't glitch out even 1% of the time. If I can't solve the issue, it'll likely be returned. I turned off most of the Synaptics silly stuff (edge swipe, etc) and it didn't resolve anything. There are nearly no services running eating up RAM so I have no idea why the touchpad would be freezing up...You might want to try these suggestions:

Toshiba Satellite E55t-A5320 Intel Rapid Start Tech driver
After completely clearing my hard drive and reinstalling windows 8.1 I have had trouble installing the Intel Rapid Start Tech drivers. The error reads:
Error: File not found
Code: 800A0035
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
no idea what to do anyone else had this problem? The exact same thing happened to me yesterday Feb 5!!!
During normal use of windows 7 the computer crashed and went through the same boot procedure as described by the previous poster.
Now I can't do anything with my hard drive. I tired everything. I even tried restoring it from the backup image that I have, but it said that it cannot find hard drive!
I do not have Toshiba Recovery. Can I download it from somewhere?
Does anyone have any suggestions? After booting from Win 7 Recovery Disk, I even tried fixing the MBR and partitions, but I would always get an error message that the system doesn't support the software I tried using (guessing because it's 64bit?)
Please, any suggestion is most welcome and appreciated!!!
Thanks,

Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 - DVD Burner unable to read DVDs only CDs
Hi,
Trying to reinstall Vista on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 laptop but the optical drive will not read any DVDs at all only CDs. So I'm unable to install Vista which is only on DVD but WinXP on CD is detected and installs OK except for XP driver issues which makes loading XP useless. I have been at this problem for few days scouring various internet forums which mostly speak to the registry issue with lower and upper filters. But if I can't get the OS installed then those solutions don't apply to me. I need help. Anyone..anyone???Satellite P205-S6267
You're in luck!
Your model belongs to part-number family PSPB0U, which corresponds to part-number family PSPB0E for computers made in Europe.
Go to the European download site and look up the Satellite P200 with Short Model No. PSPB0E.
When you filter on Windows XP, you'll find 36 items listed.

Toshiba Satellite: upgrade to Advanced Format hard drive?
Hi! I have a Toshiba Satellite. My hard drive is on the fritz, so I want to upgrade the hard drive. I called Toshiba support and asked what kind of hard drives I could use. They said "Any hard drive that isn't Advanced Format".
So I buy a new hard drive (that has no mention of being Advanced Format). It arrives, and (surprise) it says "Advanced Format" on the drive itself.
My question: is it okay to use Advanced Format drives on a Satellite? I know I'll probably have to update the BIOS, but beyond that, is there anything special about a Satellite that would cause it to have problems?

New hard drive I want to use: "WD Black". WD5000BPKT (It's a Western Digital brand.)
I intend to "clone" my entire system, windows and all, to the new drive. I know I will have to run a "realignment" tool. I plan to use WD's cloning tool, which can both clone and realign.

edit: For reference, there's an excellent knowledge base article here:

I guess my question is "Should I avoid AF completely" and try to return the hard drive?

"WD Black". WD5000BPKT
Just for the record, the WD5000BEKT does not use advanced-format technology.

Toshiba's tech support is correct in the case when you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. It's likely you will have the sort of problems I have described in this message.

Satellite C655 - how to fix the hard drive input plug?
I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite C655 could I fix the hard drive input plug because somebody snapped it off and also the start button was removed off the board.
Could anyone let me know by email [email protected] if I can please explain how?
Also have a Toshiba U300 which is flicking screen then turns blue and switches off and on by itself.> I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite C655 could I fix the hard drive input plug because somebody snapped it off and also the start button was removed off the board.
Do you mean the SATA connector on the motherboard? Is it broken?
Well, I dont think its easy to fix. If something is broken on the motherboard, then mostly you will need an new motherboard or you would ask an specialist (electronics technician) for help.
> Also have a Toshiba U300 which is flicking screen then turns blue and switches off and on by itself.
Try to clean the cooling ventilators using compressed air spray. Mostly the notebook switches OFF automatically due to higher temperature and cleaning cooling fans can help to get better cooling performance. -
Touchpad randomly locks itself and wont unlock on Satellite P50-A
Don't know if anyone can help me out but i recently bought a P50-A laptop and i am having issues with the touch-pad.
Basically what is happening is that every now and then my touch-pad randomly locks itself and then wont allow me to unlock and will unlock once I have reset the laptop.
I have checked the drivers and everything appears to be working fine and there appears to be no hardware conflicts.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? Please check this Toshiba document about available touchpad settings under Windows 8
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm
I recommend disabling or changing the PalmCheck settings within the touchpad pointing area.
Greets and feedback would be appreciated. -

I have audio working, but not the microphone on my toshiba satellite
Hi there, I'm a newbie to the arch way, but I'm not a newbie to linux, however I'm pretty stumped with this one (I'm not used to having to look after everything, but I'm loving it!) I have a Toshiba Satellite C650D-10W, and it has a very annoying soundcard built into it. I have the sound working, thankfully, however I cannot get the inbuilt mic to function. Some info here:

looks like we've got the same chipset.
one stupid pdf-file found on hp.com sais that the codec is ADI 1984AJCPZ High Definition CODEC, but I can't be sure...
i tried different model= parameters to snd-hda-intel module, but nothin helps
i can capture external jack-in microphone only if external jack-out is free (which is completely stupid for home audio studio experiencing)
internal phones are not mute automatically until jack-in freed (but i can easily mute them in alsamixer instead)
if anyone find a workaround or anything useful, please report here or use my contacts -
To mostly repeat my question, I am a longtime Firefox user on both an XP laptop and a Vista desktop. So here I get the most "capable" computer of all, a Toshiba Satellite T135 laptop, 64-bit Windows 7, 4G RAM...and it won't run Firefox at all! I have installed an uninstalled both Firefox 3, and just now, Firefox 4. No changes. When I open the software, it usually just locks up for a minute or so, and I finally get a "not responding" message at the top of the screen.
Obviously there is something corrupt in the guts of my laptop. But both IE9 and Chrome work very well--Chrome is blazing fast. I still prefer Firefox because it works best with some particular software I use for work...but I have to go to one of my older computers to do it!
ANY solutions out there? This seems like a very odd problem.
Posting from the Firefox website...using Google Chrome!I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -

All programs seam to work except HWsetup. Flashcards show up when using special function keys except for the volume, the volume special function keys work to turn volume up and down but you don’t see the flash cards, and of course there is no recovery partition so the recovery media creator cannot burn recovery media.

Instructions for changeing to from Windows 8 to windows 7.
INSTRUCTIONS:
First - Burn recovery media before you make any changes! -You may want or need to go back to windows 8 later-
Update BIOS to newest bios version, the C55 and possibly other models will not support CSM boot mode with the older bios versions.
Second -
Important Bios changes when changing from Windows 8 to Windows 7:
Completely shut down laptop (Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.) then restart computer and hold f2 when the screen goes black and wait for the bios setup utility to launch.
Select advanced, then system configuration, then boot mode
UEFI and CSM or legacy (UEFI for Windows 8 and CSM or legacy for windows 7)
For windows 7 change to CSM or Legacy mode.
Third - Also in bios setup utility select - Security, then Secure Boot, then you have to disable secure boot for windows 7.
You will need to delete all partitions before installing windows 7 this is done forth step.
Forth - Insert your windows 7 disc and select custom install, your partitions should show up - click on each one and below you will see advanced drive options, click that and you will have options to format - format each one, then delete each one. You will be left with one raw partition, select to install and windows will do the rest while installing the operating system.
Fifth - install drivers
Installation order is important:
Install chipset driver then video driver before other drivers. Then install Toshiba Value added package before other applications
-See attached pictures that show installed applications-

Hard Disk issue with Toshiba Satellite P755-S5390
Well, I'm at my wit's end on this one so after several months of searching for an answer I'm presenting this one to my fellow Toshiba users.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P755 that I purchased around March of 2012 so it is well out of warranty unfortunately. I'm having an odd issue that could just be a faulty hard drive but I wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas that might lead this to be a recurring issue with other Toshibas.
The first symptoms my laptop experienced were the computer locking up and the hard drive light staying lit constantly. This first happened right after I was using WIn 7 disk management to shrink the main partition so I could create a second partition. The exact step this happened at was when I had already shrunk the main partition and had just finished creating the second partition. It hadn't even refreshed the disk management screen when it just locked up completely.
I left it locked up for almost a half hour and then did a forced shutdown and when it came back up it was really slow and the hard drive light was staying lit constantly. Eventually it wouldn't even start up and the drive light still stayed on constantly (not even blinking, just solid on).
My first thought was obviously hard disk failure so I grabbed a spare that should have worked perfectly as it was just harvested from a perfectly fine little netbook. I popped the drive in and reinstalled Win 7 and it worked fine...for a few weeks. Then it did the exact same thing except this time it eventually just wouldn't recognize any boot media. I cursed my bad luck in having two failed hard drives and used an older one that I had spare that, as I recall, worked fine when I harvested it from the old laptop it came out of. It worked again...for a couple of days. Then it did the same thing as the first (hard drive light staying lit, not responding hardly at all). I even hooked all these little laptop hard drives up to my file servers SATA ports and they loaded fine and I was able to back stuff up.
My dilemma here is that I know it could just be that I was using old hard drives and maybe by some chance they all failed because they were old but I'd hate to buy a new hard drive if that's not the problem.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas? I even tried testing the RAM and even removing one module at a time. I also tried pulling the battery and running it straight from the charger thinking maybe it was shorting something out.
As an additional note. One interesting thing that happened after the third drive went bad was that I plugged in the original hard drive thinking I could further troubleshoot and it worked perfectly fine for about a month. It then proceeded to do the same thing again. That's about where I am now. The only other thing I did was yesterday when I pulled the battery and tried it. It did respond very well for at least long enough to almost finish the reinstall to factory partitions but it failed at the last minute and rebooted. It then loaded the Windows startup screen and locked up with the hard drive light staying lit solid.
Sorry for the novel but I wanted to make sure all my troubleshooting steps were documented so no one suggested those. My last step is to pop in another used drive and install Ubuntu and see what happens then.

How did you reinstall Win 7 on the replacement drive? Did you use the the Toshiba Recovery Disks you should have created as per the directions on page 74 of your User's Guide, following the recovery directions on page 76, and return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup? What happens if you return your unit to its factory default set up? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have a hardware problem/failure, as opposed to a driver-software-conflict problem.
You seem quite familiar with Windows Disk Management software, yet you don't mention running the built in disk 'Error-checking' utility.
If you believe you may be suffering from some kind of hard drive problems, this would seem a logical step. You can access this utility by clicking on 'Start' -> click on 'Computer' -> right click on 'C:' drive -> click on 'Properties' -> click on the 'Tools' tab -> under 'Error-checking' click the 'Check now...' button -> put check marks on both the 'Automatically fix....' and 'Scan for...' options -> click the 'Start' button. The utility will inform you it can't be run now and ask if you want to schedule for the next restart, agree and restart your computer. Depending on the size of your hard drive and the problems the utility may encounter this could take from 20 minutes to several hours.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

Satellite R630-105 - touchpad temporally freezes
Hi all,
Toshiba Satellite R630-105 model.
When writing for a while (using the keyboard) without any rule-based touchpad icon character appears on the screen, and occasionally temporary freezing appears.
At the same time I use a USB mouse, and I disabled the touchpad using the Fn-F9 Tin order to eliminate the problem.
Disable USB mouse using the internal touchpad to be marked in the option menu Control Panel ->Mouse.
Synaptics currently installed driver version 15.0.12.0 dated 11.03.2010.
I also tried drivers installing at later date, but dont get a good result.
I have tried the suggested solutions but it did not work this link:
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Satellite-Laptops-all-other/How-to-disable-graphic-pop-up-notifications/td-p/211034
If you would appreciate a fix or suggestion for a solution.
+Message was edited: posting has been translated+As I understood your issue, the touchpad icon appear while typing and this can be solved temporally disabling the touchpad pressing the FN +F9.
Is this correct?
In my knowledge you can disable the touchpad while typing by choosing the option in Control Panel > Mouse -> Pointing device tab (in some cases its Advanced tab) -> Setting button
There is area called Operations during key input
And there you can choose the option is called Disable tapping and Disable scroll function -
Trouble deleting partions.... Toshiba Satellite P505-S8010
I have a new Toshiba Satellite P505-S8010. It can with Win 7 installed. I hate Win 7 so I want to install Win XP 64Bit Sp2. I have put the DVD into the drive (and set BIOS to compatible mode). I get to the windows set-up screen were you can del or create partitions and tell it were you want to install Windows. There are currently 3 partitions listed:
1) 1.5 GB System partition
2) 240 GB Main partition
3) 300 MB (unknown partition)
I tried to del partition 1 and it won't let me. Why ??? then I tried to create a partition within the 240 GB main partition and it said ok ... but then when I tried to format the partition it said "Denied" why ???
I want to del ALL partions and create a couple new ones ... why cant I ?? it seems like they are locked somehow but I have never seen that before ... ??
Please advise me on what to do to del the partitions (via windows setup)
Thanks !!
Johnthat is all the recovery partitions. make a set of recovery media using the recovery media creator program on the laptop. for 2 reasons.
1.incase xp wont run correctly you can get your system back up and running.
2. you can use the media to completely wipe the hdd.
then you will have a completely clean hdd to start from.

How to Install Win Vista -English Version on my Toshiba Satellite L300-2CZ

Anybody know how to solve this problem?
I am facing lot of problems while while writing software code by using this Frech keyboard because we use English- Qwerty keyboard.
*And Is it possible to install Toshiba's Windows-Vista -English version on it.*
I installed generic Win-Vista home edition on it , it is working but there is lot drivers missing, So I am not able to use my Laptop at minimum.
*Could you give me some information/suggestion to solve my problem.*
Thank you,

India. It's not a problem to dowload all drivers needed either from Toshiba support sites or other good places.
You need at least Chipset+Audio+Video+Network+Wireless drivers and (maybe) some additional like Touchpad, Quick buttons, Bluetooth, Web camera.
In rare cases you can google drivers for unknown device (or just recognise it) through vendor/product IDs in device manager (VID_xxxx&PID_yyyy string in device properties).
Problem with keyboard is simple (in most cases): buy keyboard stickers like this
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=english+Keyboard+STICKERS
It's not perfect solution but very cheap'n'fast.
Alternative solutions are laser engraved letters on your keyboard or new english keyboard from Toshiba service (I can't even imagine its price).
Guess you can't install *Toshiba's* Vista other than bundled with your laptop. But you can buy any boxed version of Windows meets your requirements, even Windows 7. There is no difference between *Toshiba's* and boxed version of Windows exept license limits, so I advise you to think about boxed Win7.
