Toshiba Software Problem

Has anyone had problems with Toshiba Service Station and other programs "stop running"?  What is the fix?

The only problem I've seen in this scenario is that the "Fn-Function" hot-key combinations quit at seemingly random points, operational after reboot though: None of the icons show themselves when the Fn key is pushed.
It really got me in trouble when I had shut off the mouse pad (touch pad) for typing - like they recommend in the user's guide! Ha! Would not go back on... life with out a mouse is no life at all when you're using a gui!
It took nearly a half dozen cold boots to get the mouse back to operational.

    Hello!
I have problem using Toshiba Software Installer for Win 7 on Satellite L750-1MT (PSK30E-02T002B3) with no OS preinstalled.
    I do the following:
    1. Install Windows 7 x64, SP1.
    2. Install LAN driver (device was not recognized by Windows 6) (downloaded from [http://se.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/supportMyProduct.do?service=SE&LNG=26&userAction=S MP_RESULTS_PAGE&partNumber=PSK30E-02T002B3&serialNumber=&USER_ACTION=Serial%20number])
    3. Install all Windows Updates from Microsoft
    4. Run Toshiba Software Installer for Win 7 - it installs a couple of drivers and then asks to reboot.

You are right this notebook model was delivered without OS.
Win7 64bit is supported for this notebook model and all necessary drivers, tools and utilities are available on Toshiba download page.
What I can say is that all this stuff must be installed in right install order. I know it sounds stupid now but I recommend you to make clean OS again and continue installation following this installation order:

  • Satellite A110 Upgrade - Xpress 200M problem, lost Toshiba software

I own Toshiba Satellite A110-110. After using this laptop for a two years with pre-installed system, CPU and RAM I have decided to upgrade it. So, I change Celeron M410 for a Core Duo T2450, 60 GB HDD for a 250 GB HDD and 512 MB RAM for a 2 GB RAM and Windows XP HE for a Vista Business.
Installation of all parts and software went fine. Then, I downloaded and installed drivers for Vista. So what is wrong you might ask?
An ATI Xpress 200M, which could get from RAM up to 256 MB for graphic on Windows XP, now, with Vista, this graphic card in control panel displays only 128 MB obtained (shared) memory. What is more, there is no option to change settings and have that old 256 MB. Maybe someone knows the solution?
As the second main problem after upgrading my personal system is total lost of all Toshiba utilities like Connectivity Doctor, Wireless LAN search (transparent oval radar hide on the right side of screen with other options), SRS WOW Sound panel and other which were in based configuration.
Vista doesn't display anything though I put to the system some of it. If anyone can help to solve this problem and has knowledge where I can get that kind of software please give me a tip, and write what kind of idea you are able to share.
    Thank you for any help!!!

Thanks Homer for your answer. I went to link which you have send me. Once again I downloaded all drivers for A110 with Vista from Toshiba Support Website. When I have started installing those drivers, during the process, some of drivers couldn't be installed because of lack of appropriate software. As I stated in first post, I don't have any pre-installed Toshiba software which were included to A110 at the beginning (with XP, manufacturer configuration). Drivers and software offered by Toshiba via its website contain rather updates than basic and full software which can be downloaded and installed on any Toshiba laptop. So, here we go again to the beginning. Moreover, even if some of software were installed succesfully I still can't use Connectivity tool (that oval radar for searching available wireless intenet), I can't see and set SRS Wow sound panel beacuse there is no any set window to do this. Well, maybe they are not compatible with Vista and there is no possibility to see and use them like before (with XP). What do you think about it?

  • After upgrading to Windows 7, Toshiba software lost

At upgrading to Windows 7 with Toshiba supplied disk, I assumed it will supply all Toshiba supplied software with new machine will be reinstalled, but I think I was wrong. I cannot find the software to use my Satellite  U500-t5302 features of webcamera, etc. (1)
I worked with Japanese companies in the past a lot of projects and found Japanese people just cannot describe well about their own equipment how to use in their manual for the end users.
I'd like to suggest US Toshiba engineers to go over the original English manual line by line and improve it as a users guide.  That what I did when I sold a Japanese machine to a US customer almost rewriting the manuals.
I have a Toshiba DVD VCR unit and  its manual is similar and it is very frustrating to find how to use and problem solution going through its manual. I have a Yamaha amplifier that has the same problem of hard figure out how to find solution how to use the amp.
I know why. The engineer who writes the original manual cannot explain properly and its translator of the manual translates literally from the bad original. That's why!
I searched User's Guide which is almost useless as a guide. I spent a few hours to find in this support site where I can retrieve the software all over the places in Toshiba site in vain.
I made a backup set before doing this upgrade to Win7, but it consists of 6 disks and I don't know how I retrieve only Toshiba software or my necessary files (2)
So I reinstalled some software I need to use right away one by one. Do I need to do this?  (3)
Please help on questions (1), (2), and (3).

The WIndows 7 upgrade disk is just that.  All it contains is Windows 7.  If you perform an in place upgrade using the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant it will update any of the existing software that require it to work with Windows 7.  If you perform a CLEAN install you would need to use Toshiba Software Installer to install the bulk of the drivers etc., but some would need to be manually installed from the Apps and Drivers disk(s) from the Recovery Disk Set.  When you created them you were prompted to label each of them so you would know which ones are which.  Normally the Apps and Drivers disk(s) is the last 1 or 2 disks from the set.  Drivers and Utilities can also be downloaded from the Product Support Link at the top of this page although some of the Appsare not available for download.
The Toshiba Software Installer and Toshiba Upgrade Assistant can be downloaded from the Product Support Link at the top of this page.
They also have several WIndows 7 upgrade guides for your model available at that same site that you might want to refer to.
And I had absolutely NO problems understanding how to use the Upgrade Disk or understanding and comprehending the contents of the User's Guides for Toshiba models.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How to install Toshiba software modem on Tecra M2

It has been a few months since I used dial up, then whilst travelling and found no ethernet cable to plug into I tried the dial up modem and it didn't work and was giving an error saying the modem was misconfigured or already in use.
On closer inspection it seems the modem was configured to use COM3 port which did not show up on the device manager listing. I tried to amend the com port to COM11 which was listed as unused and then the window hung though the rest of the laptop / XP worked.
I had to reboot the computer and found that the Toshiba Software Modem was no longer installed.
So I went to the drivers site and downloaded the driver and tried to install it. It spent a few minutes updating the drivers then the window closed without any error message. Going to control panel modems add modem have driver and clicking on the INF file did nothing.
So how do I get back the Toshiba Software Modem and when I do which port do I assign it to, also how do I know if all the COM ports are being recognised?

I have a tecra M1 and no modem will work on it. I first installed the 2000 OS drivers by mistake could not start device from the forums.
I realized my mistake and found the xp drivers. UNinstalled the old ones, XP drivers installed nicely; looks fine no errors no conflicts, working properly com port 3.
But when I query modem i get the port could not be opened it is busy please check the device manager for other problems with devices.
I do see that all items are installed correctly.
They are BUT I DID NOT INSTALL THE DRIVERS in the order prescribed in the instructions.
The modem got installed after lan and wireless and a bunch of other stuff.
I wanted to do a system restore to when I just installed windows XP Pro ( not the image of the M1) but I had not activated windows until after I installed the wireless drivers. I was afraid I would deactivate windows and that would be a bummer so I just created a restore point called "before I uninstalled drivers".
Then I went to the control panel add or remove programs and removed everything in the opposite order from the install instructions, when I rebooted the wireless and lan installed before the modem and the modem still was not functional even though it said it ws working properly in the DM>
Then I uninstalled wireless and lan installed the modem then rebooted AUGHHH. Not working
Well, before this I purchased a used modem and installed it and that set up fine also and did not work I got the same error message!!! AUGHH
THEN, I instaled a PCMCIA modem, It set up perfectly and got the same rror message. DOUBLE AUGHHHH
So thats when I go to thinking of the correct order of install and sigh..........
Well, if I system restore it, the way back to the time immediately after I installed windows and the rest will I be deactivated with Microsoft?
And do you think it would work?
If not if I wiped it and reinstalled XP and installed in the correct order do you think the modem problem would be fixed.
    Any ideas?

  • Kernel panic but software problem

Kernel panic (the "You have to restart your computer" message at startup) is said to come from hardware problems but this seems to be a software problem - maybe somebody can help me!
It started slowly with the fans coming on more often than ususally. Then, I had some kernel panics at startup, usually after two or three false stars, the system would load. Hardware Test said everything was OK, Disc Utility corrected a few permission errors, but the problem persisted. I tried everything: Disconnecting everything, removing PCI card, you name it, nothing helped.
Only thing that did help was start over. "Archive and install" was not good enough, I had to start from zero. Which means that all my iTunes library and all the rest waas lost. Made a disc image on an external HD and went for it.
After that, I upgraded to 10.4.11 and tried the migration assistant. Left some of the programs out from the old installation, but took my Documents folder with me. Imported my iTunes library and iPhoto pictures. Until then, everything was perfect. After that point, the fan started its strange behavior again, and today guess what: You have to restart your c.!
So it must have to do with the programs and data that I imported, and not hardware. Have no idea though - anyone run into similar problems?
Apart from standard apps, the only thing I use is Cubase but I haven´t touched it for a long time.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I am now trying to rebuild everything using 10.4.7 ... seems the driver for the audio card (m-audio) was at least causing problems. I´ll see if it was the only one. I did the system updates whenever they popped up in software update but there wasn´t even a driver available for 10.4.11.
If that´s not it, I´ll try to use your tips! Thank you!

  • HT4060 My  first generation Ipad won't allow me to charge it by the mains socket.  This was a replacement as my origional Ipad had a software problem.  I have rebooted it a number of times but still not charging.  Any advice?

My Ipad 3G has decided not to charge.  I have been using the same charger that came with it which worked perfectly until a few days ago.  I have even tried to charge it using my incar charger, but it still won't charge up.  This Ipad is a replacement as my first one had software problems, so I am hoping this can get fixed and not result in another replacement.
I will be grateful for any advice.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 Backlight Keyboard Not Working?! Software Problem...

So my "MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011" backlight keyboard hasn't been working. I have tried LabTick today, doesn't fix anything. Even in high or low lighting situations (dispite the Adjust keyboard brightness in low light being off) doesn't like to go on. It doesn't give me a circle with a cross like it does with that box checked in day light. It shows on the screen the
16 dots fully light after hitting F6 fully, just it doesn't light up. I one time had to reset my Mac OS at the Apple Store, it fixed the problem, but when I restored with a time machine backup, it went back to this software problem. How can I fix this?! What is wrong with my OS? Mountain Lion? How can I fix this?!

If it does not detect the display automatically, try going to system preferences>displays, click detect displays.

  • My macbook pro 15 mid2010, crash every time in the last month. What can i do? Is a hardware or software problem?

The problem is that my mac is working very well, in soft programs, like browser or text editing, and then stop. Stop for one eternity, until i do a hard shut down.
After this situation apper´s many times, in a single day, i went to a apple service store and left my mac to repair. At first, the tecnhical manager told me that happens a lot, and the problem are in the logic board. Well, when i pick up the mac, he told me that was a software problem and was solved with the instalation of 10.8.5, but in that same day, he crash 3 or 4 times, in different way´s. Now, he crash´s and restart alone, and at the first try don´t restart appearing one message on the grey screen.
I don´t know what is this problem.
Someone have or had this problem too?
    What is the solution?
    Thanks a lot...

Maybe find a local who can translate for you. I don't know what to tell you for dealing in another country for service on your computer.
I can offer you something you can do if you want to give it a try. You'll need a backup of your data in your Home folder because you need to erase the drive. You'll also need a solid, preferably fast, internet connection.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My Ipod touch screen will not come  up unless I conect it to the computer. It never gets past the apple logo and never fully retores? My screen is crackd a little at the bottom. Is this a screen or software problem?

My ipod touch 4will not respond unless  I hook it up to the computer. It never goes pasthe logo apple screen. It never restores fully. Cant tell if this is a screen or software problem.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • MBP 2011 GPU failure or software problem?

    Hello there,
since Januari 1, 2015 my Macbook Pro 15" (purchased in 2011) is having major problems! How things started:
I was just watching a movie on Netflix, pauzed it, went to the toilet and when I came back my MBP had a black screen. I could hear the fans working (when I pressed my head against the keyboard) but it did not respond to anything. All I could do was a hard reboot.
After reboot I got the Apple logo, but the screen looked not as smooth as before. When I looked closer I saw very thin, horizontal lines (color pink/brown?) across the entire screen. These lines were not perfect. They had a small break in the middle. After the Apple screen I got different results:
    - White/Grey or maybe very pale blue-ish screen -> Does nothing behind this
-----> This is also the most frequent result of a boot
    - Normal blue screen -> Checkered screen -> Back to the blue screen to end with a Kernel Panic screen
Since a few days I can "normally" boot again but it crashes after a while. I don't know what the trigger is. It may be coincidence but it always crashed when I tried to go on the internet or used an application wich used the airport (also used a cable). Maybe important to mention is that this "normal" boot happens after the "checkered" screen mentioned above.
-----> The "crash" in this normal boot happens like this:
    - Total freeze of the MBP
    - Crashes on a black screen (like I had before)
    - Crashes on a dark blue/purple(?) screen -> This is also the most frequent crash after a "normal" boot and happens faster and faster.
Safe boot: Sometimes a normal screen but most of the time a screen with pink, very low resolution bands (vertical) across the screen.
When I tried searching for solutions on the internet I immediately came across this:
    http://www.mbp2011.com/
The screens show exactly what I'm experiencing. The culprit in this case: GPU failure.
BUT, isn't it strange I don't have any glitching (apart from the boot in safe mode, the Apple Logo and the checkered screen) or distortion on my screen, that it sometimes has a clear screen, like nothing is wrong? Unlike many of the people with the GPU failure, I CAN boot the MBP with a normal screen, only it isn't very stable and it is only occasionally.
    Things I've done so far:
    1. Reinstall OS X (10.6.7) from the original installation disc.
    2. I have tried NVRAM and PRAM (cmd+option+P+R), no change.
    3. Verbose-mode (cmd+V). (the last thing I could see was something about the Airport) I did this 2 times. First time it crashed on a black screen after the Verbose-mode. Second time it got stuck on the grey screen.
    4. Single-user Mode (cmd+S). Everything looked fine, no errors on hard disk.
    5. Start in Safe Mode. (Shift). The bar doesn't load until the end but it boots in safe mode, but with the pink bars on the screen
    6. Re-apply of thermal paste on GPU
The programmer at our work has over 30 years of experience with Apple and has never seen something like this. He also doesn't understand why it would be a hardware failure, because the glitches are "symmetrical", it can boot "normally" and he can't find anything wrong with it. He is now looking for something in the software wich may cause the MBP to crash. Could it just be a software problem? As I said before: It could be a coincidence but the crashes (after a "normal" boot) always appeared after trying to connect to the internet, using the internet or using an application that uses the internet (like the App Store -> I was trying to download Yosemite, it crashed around 70% of the download). And in Verbose mode the last line said something about the Airport and then it crashed.
My MBP is a Macbook Pro 15" (bought in July 2011), 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB 1333 MHz DD3
AMD Radeon HD 6490M, Part nr. MC721FN/A.
I am running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8
I spent the last two weeks on the internet to understand that if it is indeed the GPU that is failing, the replacement of the entire Logic Board is necessary, wich is VERY expensive... This cost would be more or less ok for me, but I read about failing after replacement, a LOT. Why would I pay so much money for a repair that only lasts just over 90 days? That is ridiculous!
Sorry for spelling/grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language and really thank you in advance. This MBP is impossible to replace (no money...) so I hope someone can help me.
Ask away if I did not provide any information that is necessary for troubleshooting.

  • Windows xp pro stalls - blank screen- hardware or software problem?

    Hi Guys,
My system is about one month old and has been awesome in performance and graphics.
Suddenly it (windows xp pro) stalls after flashing the windows loading screen and it goes blank. Looks like a software problem?
I am posting on this forum because when I check cmos, no hard drives are registered.
I can't get into safe mode, can't get past the administrator/user screen because no mouse operates here and can't select icons with the keyboard.(No admin passwords were set up anyway)
Booting from CD, repair console doesn't work because it can't find any hard drive.
Reluctant to do a complete reinstall because of precious stuff on the hard drive.
Using f8, "last known good..." just gives the same blank screen.
Using floppy boot, no other drives are recognized.
If my root directory has been wiped out by a virus or something, how come it gets past post and starts to load windows? If it's merely the graphics driver or similar not loading, how come the cmos shows no hard drive?
Is this a hardware or software problem? Any help much appreciated.

    THE ANSWER !!
    Hi Guys,
I finally got to talk to the guy who set up this system and he said that it is normal for RAID drives not to show on BIOS/CMOS. 'Think of it like a vrtual drive' he said. When the black and white initialization screen shows something like: 'Nividia Stripe-healthy'...then THAT is the hard-drive.
He said that as long as Windows was getting to the loading screen, that means that the computer itself was functioning okay, so don't worry about BIOS, the problem is a file corruption in windows, or virus etc.
Also he said that when trying to use recovery console or reinstall windows, because the system can only read the RAID drives through a SCSI interface, you have to load the Nvidia SCSI drivers from floppy by pressing f6 when asked to at the bottom of the pale blue screen (from Windows cd boot), before trying to do anything with windows (or windows will just tell you it can't read the drives, as it did before with me.)
So in the end, I reinstalled windows by that method and everyting seems fine so far. YAY!
Thanks you people for being kind enough to help someone out. I really appreciate it.

  • Need Help...Do I have The mother of all itunes software problems???

I am in desperate need of help. I have fried three new ipod touches in two days. I Purchased a new 32GB 2d Gen ipod touch on Mon. 11/24. Worked okay till Friday 11/28. When I tried to sync with new additions, a warning came up “the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista windows warning “USB device not recognized”
When I disconnected the touch I found that it could not be started. Tried a forced restore pressing the sleep switch and the home button together. That did not work.
Brought the touch to my apple store genius bar on Saturday and they too couldn’t get it to work. They switched out the ipod with a new one. Brought the new one home connected it and it received the new ipod touch software download okay. But when it tried to sync the same problem repeated…the two pop up warnings as before and a second dead ipod!
I then synced my ipod classic with no problems, so it appears the itunes software is okay. I’ve scheduled another appointment with the local apple store genius bar again.
When I took the new fried touch back to the Apple genius bar, it was switched out again. It was activated (by the initial step ipod touch software download on their computer.
I brought my laptop with me so we could test the syncing. The syncing proceeded initially for several minutes, and then the dreaded pop up warnings appeared
“the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista warning “USB device not recognized”
The new replacement ipod touch was also fried.
The tech gave me yet another new ipod touch. He had never encountered such a problem and advised me delete and reinstall itunes and call the APL CARE 800 support number and go over the problem with one of their techs who have a broad range of experience in dealing with possible PC related issues.
As my other ipod has no problem syncing from the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520 using Vista) I am wondering if the problem might be a corrupted Itunes software problem that affects only the touch and not the ipod classics.
Has anyone heard of a bad itunes software related problem? I googled this and could find no info. Thanks for your help!

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
    Store  >  Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

  • Dead hard drive or software problem

    Hello Everyone!!
I recently picked used 600 Mhz iMac
It came with 10.3 installed, wanted to install 10.2.8 and the computer crashed when I started off the 9.1 install CD
After the crash, the computer would not start up off the hard drive, and I've tried several different installation CD's (including a 10.3 installer) and the hard drive does not even show up in the Disc Utility.
My first thought maybe my hard drive is dead, but the more I think about it the more I think that it must be some sort of software problem (i.e. data corruption on the drive or something). I mean, I don't believe it's even possible that a computer crash could kill a hard drive!
    But from there, I'm lost!
I've reset the PRAM, and that didn't work. The only other thing I can think of is something like Norton Utilities.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Best Regards,
    Bryan

    Bryan,Welcome to Discussions.
If the hard disk isn't showing in Disk Utility I would suspect the drive is dead or not connected properly - given it's age probably the former - although if's the machines been movede around a bit you could crack the case and check all the connections. Whilst I agree that a crash shouldn't kill a hard disk - a hard disk dying would cause a crash.
I, any many other's here, would counsel against using Norton on an OS X machine - Norton doesn't know and understand OS X structures and can cause serious issues.
Probably time for a new HDD.
