Toshiba STOR.E Basics 1TB - extremely slow

Hi,
I've recently bought this Toshiba STOR.E Basics 1TB USB 3.0 HDTB110EK3BA and it's extremely slow, taking already around 48h for copying less than 100Gb.
I'm formating it Mac Os Plus and using a Mac Book Pro with USB3
Why is that happening?
Thanks
BR/ Javi

Why the data transfer is slow?
Who knows there are many reasons for that you will need to check some few things to get an answer for that
Fact is that this HDD support the USB 3.0 standard.
This means that this HDD operates with USB 3.0 performance (~ 130MB/s)
Fact is that the USB 3.0 HDD needs more power than the common USB 2.0 HDDs.
The USB 3.0 needs 900mA, the USB 2.0 HDD needs 500mA
Therefore its recommended to connect such HDD to two USB 2.0 ports using Y USB cable.
At the other hand the data transmission speed might be limited to the notebook (chipset).
Maybe your internal HDD does not provide more performance to transmit the data to the external HDD.
I read some test about this HDD and many users got the great performance.
Using USB 2.0 ports: 31,8 MB/s write ; 31,5 MB/s read
using USB 3.0 ports : 105,45 MB/s write ; 108,89 MB/s read
I recommend you to install some Disk Benchmark tools like ATTO to check the performance using other computer.

    Hi,
I've just bought a Toshiba Stor.e basics 1TB and it's extremely slow, it's taken around a day and still 2 are pending to conclude a copy of less than 100 gigas, 3days!!!
I've tried formating it with FAT32 and MacOs Plus, same results, what's wrong with this product?

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • Toshiba Store.e Canvio 1TB not showing up on Macbook Pro Retina

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with my external hard rive, it's a Toshiba Store.e Canvio 1TB, HDTC610EW3B1.
It has been working fine on my old Macbook running Mavericks but now on my new one, a retina Macbook Pro running on Yosemite, it won't show up anywhere.
I have checked with disk utility and it's not showing up, also not showing up on the USB in system preferences.
As I said, it works fine on Mavericks
Any ideas on what's happening here, please?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't have either of them to try.
I have spent two hours with Apple technicians and so far nothing we've tried has worked. I now have to speak to a senior Apple technician and see what they say.
A WD My Passport works well but this Toshiba won't work on Macbook Pro Retina with Yosemite...a bit annoying

  • Toshiba Stor.E tv 1TB PA4209E-1HJ0 SYSTEM FIRMWARE UPGRADE?

    Hey
I just purchased a toshiba stor.E tv 1tb multimedia player but it doesn't support mkv video formats & others like rmvb
Is there any system firmware upgrade that i can flash into the bios?
If so pls provide me with the link to it ?
Note : i did not find it on the support page
But i have read that the Stor.E tv 2TB's support the video file formats i'm looking for.
Would it be possible to use the same firmware bios on the 1Tb ?
    thanks & regards

    hey there,
i just purchased the same hdd. my problem is: after some trys to make it compatible to my mac (i created two partitions - one fat32 and the other in mac-format) it didnt work any longer. i mean i dont have access to the data when i connect it to my tv. even after turning it back to the former status (one fat partition) its the same. i can see the screen, when i turn it on, but i dont have a menu to choose any file. setup is working as well...
so obviously its not possible to get any firmware or other support. does anyone have a solution? maybe a soft-/firmware i can use???
    thanks,

  • Toshiba Store.E TV+ 1TB does not see external WD My Book 3TB drive

    Hi guys,
my Toshiba media player doesn't want to pickup my new portable HD drive.
I have a few drives, NTFS and FAT32, all work (from 1 to 2TB in sizes).
My newest drive is a WD My Book (3TB), and it doesn't want to pick it up.
Can it be that the firmware doesn't see the 3TB at all (meaning, supports it) ???

As I understand your issue, you have connected the WD My Book 3TB drive to the USB 2.0 port of the STOR.E TV+
    Right?
The USB port supports plug n play so it should not be an firmware problem.
I guess the external drive requires too much power. The common USB 2.0 port provides 500mA power.
This is standard and if an external drive would require more power, the drive would not be recognized.

  • Help! Play store download speeds are extremely slow

Hey guys, I just got my galaxy s4 a couple of days ago and I am just encountering a new problem. When I try to download an app from the play store it takes FOREVER to download it, I'm talking 10kb/s. Does anyone know of this problem and a solution for it? Thanks a ton!

        Good morning tony12345,
Let's speed things up for you! Your Galaxy S4 is capable of much faster downloading speeds. Ensure that LTE/CDMA is selected http://vz.to/18J32hS and make sure to disable WiFi. Also confirm your coverage signal http://bit.ly/qQR9lM as low speeds are normal for areas with extended coverage.

  • Toshiba Stor.e Partner - Can't find Nero serial number

    Hi,
I'm trying to install my new Toshiba Stor.e Partner 1TB on my Windows Vista computer and during the installation, it's asking me for a serial number to validate Nero BackItUp 12 Essentials.
I assumed this would be the serial number on the bottom of the HDD and the packaging but that doesn't work. It's not on any of the leaflets that came with it and can't find any info on the user's guide.
Anyone know what I'm missing here?
    Thanks

As I understood your message, you found the serial number but it does not match with your software. Right?
Are you sure you typed the number correctly?
Maybe you mistyped the number or mixed some numbers like 0 and o or i and l
    Check it again.
You can also upgrade the Nero software to the latest version

  • My external HD of 1TB is not being recognized by the iMac and when after a long waiting period it does, the whole computer becomes extremely slow. Do I need any particular add-on to make it workable?

My external HD of 1TB is not being recognized by the iMac and when after a long waiting period it does, the whole computer becomes extremely slow. Do I need any particular add-on to make it workable?
Before I updated to OS X Mavericks I was using another external disk that was getting disconnected ocasionally so I bought a new ADATA HD710 portable 1TB Drive and moved the files to it. This new drive which is supposed to be OS X Mavericks compatible takes minutes to show the files especially when opening second and third level folders which has made mu iMac unusable
    What should I do?

Your Mac should be able to recognize many different types of drives (including Windows-formatted drives) immediately for Reading, provided they are in good working condition and not damaged. There should be no need to transfer to a different type of drive.
If there is no recognition of this drive, see if it can be seen in Disk Utility.
If your aim is to transfer the data on it DO NOT use ERASE or PARTITION as these will completely erase all the information on the Drive.
If the drive is present while the Mac sleeps, it is likely to drop out and not be seen any longer, especially if it is a USB-powered drive.

my final cut is running extremely slow after having for 6 months.  I use external hard drives and save nothing on my computer.  it takes a long time to render now. do you think something is wrong with computer. took it to mac store but they fail to help me.  I have a 13 inch mac book pro 10.6.8 8gb 2.3 gfz intel core i5

What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go.  And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too.  FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't.

  • Extremely slow download from Itunes store when on NAS

    Hi All,
Since the latest Itunes update 10.6 I've been experiencing extremely slow download from the store. Set up is as follows (with all the latest firmware and software upgrades done on everything)
ITunes DB and XML locally stored on HDD
Itunes Media Folder stored on NAS DNS-323
DNS 323 NAS hardwired to network by 1000 Gb LAN Connection
         Cabled Internet connection at 60Mbps
There is no issue running Itunes from the NAS to MAC / APPLETV and other devices across the network wirelessly or hardwired, except when downloading purchases from the ITunes Store. One HD tv show takes 4 hours to download and averages 1Mbps speed.
After running some test with various configuration it seems that the fact that the Downloads folder located within the ITunes Media folder (now stored on the NAS) is causing the poor download speed. When the Download folder is local on a HDD  it's got no problem reaching 60Mbps.
Unfortunately there is no way to tell ITunes to keep the Downloads folder local and the ITunes Media folder on NAS, it always stays within the Itunes Media folder no matter where this folder is located.
Permitting Itunes to keep the Downloads folder locally while downloading files and transferring the files to the ITunes Media folder (wherever it's located) once it's fully downloaded might be the simple solution to this common problem.
How about testing this out Apple!

I have some information to add to this.  I've been seeing these problems for quite some time since I started downloading in HD.  My library is rather large so I too decided to use another drive.  My case is different though I have and extra 2 TB internal drive and my media folder is on it.  This rules out all Wifi, network, or USB bottlenecks as a cause of the problem.  I have noted a few oddities about this behavior and I will mention them here although I am not sure what they mean.
    1.  If I set up a long list of downloads it seems to crawl on all downloads.  If I kill the "apple push" process the top two seem to speed up.  I have to maintain the list and only enable two downloads at a time to get anywhere near reasonble speeds but this method is great for one or two downloads at a time.
    2.  I was curious about this problem after watching it download for hours on a 24MBPS connection for just a few shows.  When I did yet another search I finally found this thread so I thought checking something out might be interesting.  I set up some HD movies to download on my secondary system that only has one hard drive.  Although not at full speed they began downloading much faster.  Three movies are all downloading on the single drive system faster than the one alone on the system with the Itunes media folder on a different drive.
Both systems are hard wired to the internet.
Finding this thread made me very curious I was wondering if there would be a performance boost if I uninstalled Itunes, and re-installed it on the media drive.  I really wanted that drive to be storage only but it makes me wonder if it would give different results or the same problem from not being on the OS drive.
Both systems are running Windows 7, and both are able to download streaming content, large files, or movies from other sites relatively instantly.

  • ITunes Store is extremely slow

Accessing the iTunes Store is extremely slow. Even after emptying the cache, accessing the store or downloading content is slow. Songs that usually take a matter of minutes to download show an estimated completion of 10 to 12 hours.
Is anyone noticing similar behavior? Any tips or ideas on a fix?
    Thanks.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • My Windows XP computer becomes extremely slow when I try using iTunes. It cannot connect to iTunes Store. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but nothing changes. I cannot use iTunes or sync my iPod anymore. Please help.

I cannot use iTunes anymore. My computer becomes extremely slow or just freezes. I notice the problem started after I updated iTunes to a new version. I have tried uninstalling iTunes completely from my computer and installing it back, but problem continues. We iTunes launches, it tries to connect to iTunes store, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that either. I can't sync my iPod or play back my music, please help.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Toshiba StorE Canvio Alu 2.5 1TB always switches off

    Hello,
I've got a Toshiba StorE Canvio Alu 2.5 1TB external HDTH310ES3AA (USB 3.0) 1 TB on a Windows 7 system, Mainboard: AsRock H81M-HDS. I installed all new USB controller drivers I could find, but I always have one problem: The Toshiba HDD does not work properly on this system (but well on Windows XP - but without USB 3.0):
While transferring data to the hd, it always "switches off" - already after a few seconds.
It doesn't matter if connected to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, always got the same problem.
    Could somebody please help?
    Thanks!
    Best wishes
    Andy

    Hi
The HDD seems to work properly in connection with Win XP system, therefore I think that there is nothing wrong with your HDD but it looks like the computers USB controller / ports could cause the issue.
The HDD supports USB 3.0 as well as the USB 2.0 standard.
But USB 3.0 port provides max. 900mA and I guess 900mA are necessary to get the HDD working properly.
Question: does this HDD work properly in connection with another computer / notebook running Win 7 or Win 8 OS?

  • Toshiba StorE Basics 750GB - Partition Issues

    Hello,
I'm hoping you can help me or point me in the right direction.
i purchased this Toshiba StorE Basics 750GB v63700-b part number: hdtb107ek3aa a few days ago.
When I connected it to my USB port it came up as it should after Windows & installed the required drivers.
I then copied over 200gb of information to it.
    All was working fine.
My daughter then took it and connected it to her iMac and she said yes when Timje machine asked if it was ok to initialize the drive. Well she realized her mistake about 10 sec into that process.
So here is the question. Time machine wrote a new partition table to the drive, ergo no more Fat or backup fat.
I'm trying to find out what was the preinstalled partition configuration of the drive when it is first connected. This way I can at least correct the partition table entries, type, size and so on. This will allow me to then use recovery software to get the files.
I hope that you know where I can find that information.
    Regards,
    Elan

You are talking about this external HDD. Right?
    http://www.toshiba.eu/discontinued-products/hdtb107ek3aa/
HmmI guess it could be NTFS file format.
But Im not quite sure if you will be able to rescue the data after file format change.
