Toshiba Tecra M9 Bios problem

Hi,
Cant change in Tecra M9 bios boot from cd or flash. PgUp and PgDn not working there, buttons work in all other aplication in windows except Bios. HDD now formated, cant setup anything to PC.

You will need to take the unit, along with your proof of purchase, to the nearest Toshiba ASP and have them remove it. There is a special way the password needs to be removed and only Toshiba or one of their ASP's can do it. You should also take the police report with you.

  • Toshiba tecra a11-17c refusing to boot from LAN

    Hello
I am working on a Toshiba tecra a11-17c. We currently have about 18 of the same laptop and the person who originally built the computers has left the office we are currently working at.
The issue I am have is that I  want to boot the computer from lan and do a windows 7 installation on the laptop but I keep getting the error "Media test failure, check cable"
I know the cable is working because I was able to build a Toshiba satellite pro l20 perfectly fine
The other Toshiba tecra a11-17c laptops have the same issue when trying to rebuild them too
I am fully able to log into a Toshiba tecra a11-17c and connect to the internet via the same network cable and port when in windows.
I have also tried to swap the hard drive with a different tecra a11-17c but it just kept getting a blue screen as soon as the windows flag appeared.
I then tried a format of the hard drive and a reset to default of the bios settings as suggested in a different forum.
I then tried to clone a fully working hard drive from a different fully working tecra a11-17c and it just dose the blue screen as stated above.
I then used an old windows XP recovery disk for the tecra a11-17c it did the build fine no issues then when it came to build to windows but as stated above it just dose a blue screen the same as windows 7.
Now I have no idea what to do but to believe it is something Toshiba has done with the tecra a11-17c range because its the same issue for all 18 of the tecra a11-17c laptops I have here.
Any way I am at a loss and have no idea what to do it seems to be something as simple as the network card need to be turned on during the boot phase but I can not find anything in the bios.

I'm sorry but I have no experience doing what your attempting to do.  However, for your information, this site is for U.S. models only and I would suggest you also post in the appropriate regional Toshiba Support forum to get better suggestions.  Good luck

  • CPU Upgrade on Toshiba Tecra M3

    Hi,
I just finished refurbishing my Toshiba Tecra M3 (64MB Nvidia 6200 model) which had been dead for 6 months. Basically it had the mainboard changed (applied new daimond thermal grease over GPU/CPU due to overheating issue), new screen installed, new 160GB Samsung 5400 HDD and body plastics refursbished too and at present its working like a charm and as new condition inside out. The system currently holds a Pentium M 750 CPU (1.86GHZ) and I'm aware that such models supports up to 2.13GHZ. I have tried to replace the CPU with a 2.0GHZ Pentium M 760 SL7SM model however upon boot up, laptop powers up fine to bios but pwoers down soon after. Any idea's what the issue may be? The BIOS has been upgraded to 1.50 (latest version)
    Thanks for any help.

Hi again, just managed to solve the issue by myself. I have resetted the mainboard from the bottom (aside VGA heatsink), reinstalled again latest version of BIOS i.e 1.50 and now I can run my Tecra M3 on a 2.26GHZ CPU (Pentium M 780).
P.S Currently averaging a 60deg temp CPU at high usage. Not that bad for the BBQ warrior.

  • Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 stuck on toshiba logo after bios change

My Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 is stuck on toshiba logo after bios change.
entered bios fine changes from UEFI to CSM boot and now i cannot enter bios or boot past toshiba logo.
Ive tried F2 tapping and holding while powering up the laptop(tried every Fkey,DEL,ESC, with and without FN key)
    cannot re-enter bios.
Also i tried to run the bios update cd created multiple  1.50 1.40 even 1.00, it doesnt seem to read any media.
i tried holding C, FN+C and f and just about every key on the keyboard to get something to work. i had dvd as top of boot priority for a while now so i shouldnt have to try f12 or holding C before boot but i tried . it doesnt seem to read any media
i tried windows 8 install cd, Ubuntu, centos, nothing goes past toshiba logo and no errors, i dont get the non bootable device error so its seems to not be reading the dvd. (dvd does spin and make read noises) im trying to find my usb floppy drive to try a floppy version but it acts like its not reading any media.
I also pulled the HDD and all usb devices to make the dvd the only media available and with the HDD out it spins then toshiba logo then black screen with solid white  horizontal curser on top left of screen.(only happens when hdd out)
is there some type of key combination that will force a bios update or a crisis recovery mode for bios.
I also Pulled the battery for 2 solid days(battery, cmos battery, and power supply and held power button for about 10 mins while watching tx to make sure the thing was drained before the 2 day sit with no power at all.
this happened the second i changed from UEFI to CSM boot so its not a motherboard problem or anything like that because all was well before this setting change.
I already pulled the HDD and backed it up to another drive and swapped it to elimiate that.
any ideas on a secret key combo to force a bios read from dvd or usb or anythng.
or another combo that im just missing to enter bios after CSM boot.
    UPDATE
to do a crisis recovery on this laptop
1 get a usb stick and format it in fat or fat32
2 download "7zip" and install it if you dont have it.
3 download bios from toshiba website.
4 run the installer for bios but dont choose and option just close it we just want to extract the files to the location normally  c:\splnvxxx where xxx is the version number like 150
5 goto the installed locaion "c:\splnv150" or whatever number.
    6. find file os2014273a_150 or something similar. it will be an application, it will end in version number _150, and it will also have a disc image file of the same name. but we want the app.
    7. right click on it and you should have an option 7zip then extract
once extracted there is a folder now archesxxxxxx_bios_v150_win
8 copy the bios file located in archesxxxxxblahblah/X64/BIOS.fd , BIOS.fd is the bios and just copy that to a BLANK usb thumb drive that was formatted with fat or fat32.
    9. put usb into your satellite and unplug the power from it.
10 holding FN + ESC key together plug the power back in and press power button.
    11. release keys FN and ESC if all is right it will have the power button and led on from blink abut every 1 second while it searches for the bios. once its done it will reboot and you should be good to go.
if it keeps cycling with the power button then the bios is named wrong or something is not right with the usb. try reformatting it again and make sure that the bios file is the ONLY thing on the drive.

Ok a little research and digging into the bios exe downloaded from toshiba shows this has INSYDE BIOS witch should have a recovery process wich i prepared a usb stick with just the bios.fd on it found some post around toshiba forums with different models using win +B or Fn + F but neither of these worked for me to force bios update
anyone with this model know the key combo to force recovery

  • Tecra A11 - Bios Update offered - necessary?

Hi - I've just been offered a BIOS Update for my Tecra A11-17N (Via Toshiba Service Station) - BIOS Update v3.10....
Clicking on the update doesn't offer any details as to what it contains/fixes/improves - it just says basically "install, and computer will re-boot a few times".
My Tecra is running perfectly - no issues at all. Should I ignore this?

    Hello
    > My Tecra is running perfectly - no issues at all. Should I ignore this?
Youre right. In this case you can ignore this update because everything works perfectly.
BIOS update is always a little bit risky so it shouldnt be done just for fun. It should only be done if its really necessary and in your case you dont need it.
So have fun with your Tecra A11 and you can forget the update :)

  • Toshiba Tecra M1 - Won't reboot

    Hello @ll
This is my first post on this forum. I write from poland, so forgive me for my poor english.
I have a problem with my old laptop (Toshiba Tecra M1). Computer won't reboot. After the Arch installation everything was fine, command init 6 was working correctly. When I was doing installs and configurations (adds daemon's to rc.conf, modifying fstab, install KDEmod etc.) i was rebooting system to see how it works. I don't know when, but after 3th, maybe 4th reboot system won't boot. I can see the screen which contains information about closing daemons, but after this listing I can see only black screen, computer stops and nothing happens.
    Thanks for any advices

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is. As Joe already wrote it is hardware related issue and it should be checked by technicians. Fact is that this Tecra M1 is pretty old notebook model (I had it 8 years ago) so I think repair is not a option.

  • Solaris 8 and PCMCIA on Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT

I am having problems with my pcmcia services with X86 on my Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT laptop. It will not recognize the network card(s) or any PCMCIA cards for that matter. Do I need to load a specific driver or turn on the PCMCIA service or something to that affect for the PCMCIA slot to work? I have heard that the Toshiba laptop is the most supported laptop model for X86. Could anyone give me some advice or point me to the right website or news group. Please reply or contact me directly at [email protected] Much appreciation!

I believe that PCMCIA is broken in Solaris 8.
I can't seem to get networking to work on my Dell either.
    Good Luck,

  • Tecra A10 - BIOS updater doesn't work on Windows 7

Upgrading BIOS for TECRA A10/M10 and Satellite Pro S300/S300M to version v1.90 using P0065v190.exe (bios-20090304141534) fails with message:
"[Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed."
Note: Executing as an Administrator returns the same error.
Probably Windows 7 is not supported but, it must be an explicit protection since the Vista version should work in 7. There's any updater parameter to skip this protection?

BIOS update is designed and tested for certain OS. Win7 is not on the market and at the moment Toshiba offers tested BIOS updated for Vista only.
Sorry but what else to say. You probably know how sensible BIOS update is and how dangerous it can be. So don't play with this and don't make not-tested experiments with this stuff.
In few months Win7 will be on the market and Toshiba will start official support. You can wait few more weeks isnt it?

  • S10  X86 installation hangs on Toshiba Tecra M2 Laptop

    Hello,
I am trying to install s10_X86 on toshiba tecra M2 laptop. But it hangs at secondary boot loader. Checked the HCl too from the bigadmin and it supports s10 3/05. I have the same media. Can any body help me install the os the laptop.
    Thanks in Advance,

I too installed s10 on a Tecra M2, and have disabled legacy USB FDD support. This enabled me to get past installation problem, but at first reboot, the system hangs at checking ufs file systems. It hangs at:
    " [sytem/filesystem/autofs:default failed repeatedly (see 'svcs -x' for details) ] "
This is a dual boot system, with XP on first part of disk, and s10 installed on last 17gb of disk

  • Toshiba Tecra 9000 Noise

    Hello everyone,
I have just bought the Toshiba Tecra 9000 Pentium 3 1Ghz, 256RAM from ebay. The problem is that after starting some Video applications or sometimes even opening new website which is in Macromedia Flash I hear some strange noise, which I think is from the Hard Drive. The sound is similar to the CDROM, when you put there CD and it starts reading.
Maybe anyone does have any suggestion regarding that and can help me out. Maybe I did not configure something well.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
my suggestion is not so funny and very time-consuming, but it might put you off in the right direction.
Clanking noises MIGHT indicate harddisk problems.
A good way to find out if there is in fact a harddisk problem is to perform a full scandisk.
Make sure to enable "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
When the scanning is done, sit down & prepare to spend some time in front of your computer. Listen to the sounds your harddisk is doing. If You hear the clanking when the surface test is done - then you can be quite sure to have a harddisk problem. Also listen for repeating sounds like "chuck-chuck-chuck-......"
    Hope this helps you
    BR

  • Need Tecra A3 BIOS information

I need to download the full BIOS information (contained in the BIOS chip) for my Toshiba Tecra A3 SP611.
I do not need a Winphlash upgrade, but the full information, to overwrite the corrupt information on my BIOS chip.
Can anyone advice me where to get it?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you will be not successful to overwrite the corrupt information on my BIOS chip.
The Toshiba driver page provides the newest BIOS Win-version. This BIOS can be updated under running Windows OS. You have to execute the exe file. Thats all.
But if your BIOS chip is corrupt then you should contact the ASP in your country for the help and details about the further handling!
Sorry but there is not other possibility to fix the faulty BIOS ROM chip!

Is it a problem? Or wrong? To go into service? Thanks

    Hello
This message shows if the card can be connected to the internet provider. With other words this shows that your card is not compatible with available provider.
So what you should do is to contact internet provider and clarify this.

  • Tecra M2 Mouse Problem

I bought a refurbished Toshiba Tecra M2, and often find the mouse wandering to the point that I can't work on the system.  I've added a usb mouse, and it works a little better, but the problem is still there.
What are the best steps to troubleshoot/fix this problem?
    Thank you-
    Adam

    Hi atrunnell,
Try pinching the AccuPoint joystick with your fingernails and then pulling straight up. It should come off and on pretty easily. Check that there aren't any cookie crumbs wedged under it.
If that's not it, what happens when you disable the AccuPoint and/or the TouchPad? You can do this from Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mouse. There should be a tab like "Dual Pointing Device" where you can turn off either or both pointing methods.
Finally, you might try upgrading the driver. On my Tecra M5, I upgraded from the Alps Pointing Device Driver v6 to v7. I don't know if this driver is appropriate for your machine, so please double check before installing it.

  • Toshiba Tecra M1 Charger

    Hi there,
I bought a 2nd hand Toshiba Tecra M1 with Windows XP. Its has two issues. Dont know if have to worry about the 1st one which is that the charger sounds rattling when you shake it and it takes about 5 minutes to charge 1% of the battery? Is the charger faulty? nevertheless the battery gives about 3 hours. So wanted to know if its norm for it to take so long to charge. Approximately it will take 8hours to charge the battery, is that okay?
2nd issue is that when DC plugged with the charger the sound is their I can listen to music etc when you remove the power cable the sounds disappears! lols. I reinstalled the driver again from Toshiba site but same problem. Never seen that one...
    your advice please....thanks

    1)  Get another charger.  You can get one for 15-30 bucks on craiglist.  Make sure you have the right power ratings because if you get one to low in amps it will not charge when the machine is on.  Charging times seem alright.
    2)  Never heard of it.  Can you change the power scheme when running off battery.  FN / F2.
