Toshiba Thrive Tablet Broken Headphone Jack Fix For Audio Line Out

BROKEN HEADPHONE JACK SIMPLE FIX FOR TOSHIBA THRIVE TABLET:
I love my Toshiba Thrive tablet. I take it with me everywhere I go, nearly every day. I also enjoyed connecting the headphone output jack on the side to an external set of speakers. I would enjoy stereo internet, video watching and so on. I recently broke (cracked) the headphone jack on accident. For months, I heard only through the small, factory installed speakers which, is not quite what I'd call 'ideal stereo.' Has anyone else done this? Despite trying to find repair shops locally, no one will touch a tablet it seems for repair or replacement parts. It's not your usual headphone jack. But - I can tell you how to get your sound back!
THE QUICK FIX
While browsing the internet, I found a device that by-passes the headphone jack and instead uses the internal workings of the Thrive tablet's main connection port. This port is located at the base of the unit. It will be covered by a protective, plastic tab that is removeable. Simply pry a little. This long narrow port was designed to allow you to set the entire Thrive tablet into a docking station designed for it. In this docking station are various connection pins that allow the audio to be sent out of the tablet and into the docking station. At the rear of the docking station you'll find a host of connection types:  1) audio out jack/headphone 2) USB 3) HDMI 4) 110v power supply. Simply plug your speakers or headphone cable into the new docking station and you're done! Your audio will work again. I purchased my docking station for $6.00 on Ebay.  Oddly, the unit doesn't charge very well if at all while in the docking station but I've read you can simply remove the cover from your Thrive, remove the battery physically for a few minutes, return it to it's rightful place then close the cover and this fixes the problem. It's a strange little glitche. I have yet to try this yet. I did find that if I plug the cord directly into the Thrive right side as designed, it will recharge the battery as usual. I ordered a few of these docking stations which allow me to simply set the pad down depending on where I am and it will continue to charge. The docks do not come with power outlet so you'll need to consider buying additional but it works wonderfully. There are now even wireless docking stations too!

I connected my brand new iPod Classic 160 GB to my brand new Sony home entertainment system through the headphone jack (to the audio line in). The volume is ridiculously low. Can somebody help me out here?

Make sure the volume on the iPod is turned up fully, since this will affect what you hear through the stereo.
Make sure Volume Limit is set to full. (From Main Menu, Settings/Volume Limit)
If you purchased your iPod inside the EU (European Union), then the maximum volume from the headphone jack is lower than elsewhere in the world. If this is the case, buy yourself a 30-pin Dock Connector to 3.5mm jack lead, such as the one linked here...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Decrescent-Connector-Stereo-Auxiliary-iPhone/dp/B007NIE5 EE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386012456&sr=8-1&keywords=30+pin+to+3.5mm
That connector will take a higher volume out (than the European Union's output) and that will be louder (and hopefully loud enough) through your stereo.

  • Zen micro headphone jack fix for fr

i read somewhere in the forums that Creative can fix the headphone jack problem for free?
Do you need a warranty for them to do it for you? And are all the songs on the player deleted when they fix it's
I would try and fix my Zen Micro headphone jack myself, but I'm afraid I might do something wrong.

i recently got my micro replaced at best buy after it had the headphone jack issue, and my new one is having the same problem. I'm pretty sure best buy gyped me though because they gave me a micro that was sitting out on a table like it was used or something. Since this was within the last 3 months am i able to mail my micro in to creative to get one of the new, hopefully fixed, ones for free? It's soooo frustrating because i love the micro but the stupid head phone jack just makes me want to strangle it.

  • Can I disable broken headphone jack? and get sound to internal speakers?

HP G72T-200 CTO Notebook PC WINDOWS 7
My laptop has a broken headphone jack (piece of plastic fell out of it) and thinks there is something plugged into the jack and won't default to the internal speakers. I've rolled back, reloaded drivers, run audio sound fix it thing, etc. Headphones will work if you hold plug and jiggle to the side. Is there anyway to just disable the jack so I can hear sound through the internal speakers?

    Hey TR,
    21Jan...
Can you stick a powered speaker on that jack and fix it so it doesn't wiggle much until you can get it fixed?
    22 Jan...
The only fixes I have found for this are for Linux.
One can risk a registry fix, though I've not found a sure way to do it.  The fix depends on knowing your sound card (I do not), and knowing the exact entry fix (I might, but I won't risk your system).
My sage advice is to get it fixed and be done with it.
It is my pleasure to assist.

  • Any clever solutions for a broken headphone jack ?

Wow. My year and a half old, always babied, iPod has a broken headphone jack. Probably not an uncommon issue, but what are my options?
Is this a repair that my local Apple Store can handle or would I have to resort to some third party repair guru?
Any chance of replacing the jack myself?
Also, is it possible to take the audio from the docking jack on the bottom of the Pod and then use some funky adapters to get signal to the headphones?
Just wondering what clever solutions some of you have found.
    Thanks to all.

You can use the Apple Remote/FM Radio that connects to the dock connection and listen to it that way.
You can have Apple repair it for a fixed rate, or you can go to http://www.ifixit.com http://www.ipodmods.com http://www.iresq.com and either have them repair it or order the parts and do it yourself.

You should be able to find Firefox by searching for it in the Android market on the device.

How would making a Genius Bar appointment, going to the Apple Store, having them confirm the problem and give you a new/refurbished iPod (depending how old yours is) take longer than waiting for it to be shipped?
For those of us who would have to drive several hundred miles to get to a Apple Store, it would definitely take longer!
Personally, I don't even want a refurbished iPod, ever. If it's my only option, then I'll go with it, but I would prefer my own iPod. I don't even know this ... but when you get a refurbished iPod, is the screen brand new? Or is there a chance of getting a refurbished iPod with minor scratches on the screen? If that's the case, I'd probably just keep sending them back and refusing payment on the previous shipping charge until I got one with a new or immaculate screen. I always use a screen protector, and I can't stand iPods with scratches on the screen. Especially if you're going to view video on it.

  • Broken headphone jack in ipod.

My headphone jack broke inside of my ipod touch. If I brought it to the apple store would they be able to fix it?

    Maybe here:
Broken headphone jack! 3.5mm dillemma....: Apple Support Communities
However, I would first make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and hear what they have to say.

I have a new macbook pro 13".  I want to use the headphone jack as an audio in device, but I do not have the option in sound preferences to choose it as an option for audio in.

Ask Apple - we're only users here.
Griffin iMic is the usual solution to such problems; http://store.griffintechnology.com/desktop/imic
By all means send feedback and let them know how t'd off you are; http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Blue Tooth paired but SONY DR-BT50 HEADPHONES not connecting for audio out of iMac

The Sony Bluetooth Headphones work well with iPhone 3Gs for music and phone but I cannot get audio out of the Desk Top Machine eventhough the headphones are paired - they do not seem to connect. I have selected them as audio out phones in Blue Tooth options but nada. Any thoughts?

  • Problems with audio line out jack

When I connect the headphones in the audio line out inmediately change to "Digital out" and I don´t listen nothing, but when the headphones is unplugged I hear the music through the internal speakers normally. What can I do about?  Thanks.

I need to change the logic board? or only the audio line out jack can be replace?

  • Damaged Audio line out jack

Hope to get some advice here - after messing with my MDD to get a Time Capsule up and running (while changing the ethernet connections a couple of times), I managed to thwack the audio line out cord from the box enough to damage it - I noticed one channel of the audio was gone, then after finding the jack is loose, wiggled it just enough to make it worse or better depending where the cord sits... I am using powered speakers so the apple speaker mini-jack doesn't seem to be a good option instead of the line out...
The question is, can this be repaired without replacing the logic board?
    Many thanks in advance!
    David

    Hi, David -
Repairing that component could be not inexpensive (if done by a tech shop) or risky (if done by someone else).
As an alternative, you could consider using the Griffin iMic Adapter.

  • Headphone Jack fix?

I have a Toshiba Laptop: Model: Satellite L355.
For awhile now the headphone jack hasn't been working right. I have to twist and wiggle the headphones to get the sound to stay in my headphones. It's getting to the point where the sound wont quickly go back into the headphones and I think sometime it will fully quit working.
What can I do to fix it?

How did you do that, anyway?
I'm having a similar problem, except it's the right earbud, and only works if I keep pressure on the plug a certain way.
Just the end steps will be good - I know I'll have to crack open the case and there's instructions for that elsewhere. But I'm guessing you had to buy the receptacle first, and where?
Thanks a lot, congrats on solving your own problem.

  • Satellite A100 - Broken headphone jack

    Hi,
Through obvious neglect I have broken the plastic headphone hack on the front of my A100 till still accept a jack but is barely staying in there.
Anyone know if its easily replaced by myself with a soldering gun and the part? How is it connected to the board?
    thanks

    Hi!
Normally the headphone jack is soldered/fixed on the mainboard and that means you have replace the whole mainboard. Furthermore the notebook must be disassembled complete and this is a little bit tricky.
In your case I would go to an authorized service provider. Speak with the technician and then you will see what they can do for you and how much it costs. I think this would be the best option.
