Toslink to digital optical stopped working

Hello, I am having an issue with getting sound from my MacBook Pro to my 5.1 AV Receiver. I recently bought a toslink to digital optical cable and everything was working fine until the other day I accidentally unplugged the toslink end from my computer while a song was playing, when I plugged the cable back in there was no sound and I have been unable to get it back ever since. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If you are having issues with the digital optical (Toslink) output on your MacBook Pro, you may want to try switching it to the internal speakers to verify the audio is working that way, then change it back to the external output. You may also want to double check that no debris is obstructing the port, especially for an optical connection. You may find the following article helpful:

Digital out stopped working for no reason?

I have been using the digital out through an optical cable to my surround sound for quite a few months. Today I turned the machine on and the sound no longer comes through. The surround sound does not show a connected device.
I have checked the cable and surround sound device by plugging in another device that has optical out - this works fine. When I plug the optical cable into the back of the mini mac it lights up.
Does anyone have any ideas how this might suddenly stop working and if there is way to fix it? Is the output of the digital out affected by software updates (im running latest updates)?

Go to system preferences and then open sound. Click on the output tab and see what info you have under name. If you see Digital Out, it is hardware related (MLB) and needs service. Try to reset the SMC of the mini as well. Here's the steps:

Digital signature stopped working in Acrobat Pro 9

My digital id functionality in signing PDFs has suddenly stopped working. I've tried using it with multiple documents and none are working. I tried to create a new digital id, but that doesn't work either. Here's the error message I'm getting: (please magnify if necessary)...

Thank you but if I put it back into LiveCycle everything that has been inputted by the recipient is lost. Do you know if there is a setting in LiveCycle that allows hyperlinks to be entered in to the text area by the recipient of the form?

Adobe digital editions stopped working in windows 7

I am not able to open the adobe digital editions in windows 7 because everytime I open it the above message comes up-I have attempted several uninstall and installs- how can this be corrected?

I have un-installed 2.0 and cleaned out anything that was hanging around.
Re-insalled V3.0.
Unplugged my reader and started up ADE.
It works!
Uploaded a book and, for a few minutes at least, it was stable.
Plugged in my reader, a Kobo touch, and within seconds I go the ADE 3.0 has stopped working message.

Digital Signature stopped working

Have used Acrobat digital signature infrequently for several years. Recently stopped working. Attempted on several different docs with same result. Goes thru steps of placement and digital signature appears. However, nothing happens after hitting the sign button. The signature does not appear in the doc nor in the saved doc. Tried several things suggested on line. Nada. Suggestions? Acrobat 9.5.5 OSX 10.8.1

If the user is not using Adobe Reader, but some other PDF viewer that doesn't support digital signature fields, you will see this sort of thing. The Preview application on the Mac, with is the default PDF viewer out-of-the-box, is notorious for this (as well as corrupting PDF forms). Even if someone has Adobe Reader installed, it may not be what they're using to view your form. I imagine a good precentage of your users will be using Macs given your setting, so you'll have to address this through user education.
Also, you mentioned you will be receiving more than 500 returned forms. This would be a violation of the Acrobat License Agreement, which limits the number of returned forms that you can use to no more than 500 if you distribute an enabled document to more than 500 recipients. But there's a good chance that if you contact Adobe they will say it's OK regardless. Just try to get it in writing...

Adobe Digital editions- stopped working error

Hi, I am having trouble getting into the Adobe Digital editions. I downloaded it, and it says it is complete, but when I go to open it I get an error message that adobe has stopped working and windows is checking for a solution, window closes nothing happens, can't open it. I triedhe uninstalling it and reinstalling it but the same thing happened again. How do I fix this?

Depends why it stopped working. You could try uninstall and reinstall.
Unfortunately, ADE2.0/2.0.1 is a terrible program riddled with bugs,
unless you need a feature it does not have the best solution is to install 1.7.2.
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1). Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

Digital Output Stopped Working

My new 1.66 Intel Core Duo Mini has been flawlessly passing digital audio to my receiver from VLC and EyeTV for close to a week. But I played a DVD for the first time today with Front Row and ran into a huge problem.
While there was no trouble playing Dolby Digital from Front Row, now I can't get any sound through the digital output outside of Front Row. VLC is silent and EyeTV needs to manually change over to "system sound output" for anything to get through. And then it's in stereo, despite Dolby Digital showing up as the soundtrack in EyeTV.
I combed this forum but couldn't find this specific problem. I saw someone recommended flashing the nvram as a possible solution to problems with the digital output but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.
1.66 Intel Core Duo 1GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.6)

On a somewhat related issue: My Mac Mini 2007 won't output audio, via toslink mini adapter. It shows up in the Midi output as working and I see the red light from the cable. But when I put in a regular mini audio cable, and "move it around" in the headphone slot I get sound if it's just in the right place. Is this some sort of short in the headphone jack inside the Mini? Does this need to be replaced or is there an easier solution? Comments appreciated!

Western Digital Drive stopped working

Hi all,
I have a Western Digital External USB Hard Drive that connects to my PB using a USB 2.0 cable. I used to use this hard drive for quite some time. I had to stop using it for a while (3 months or so), and then when I tried to use it again, nothing happens.
I changed the cable, tried to connect to my iMac as well but nothing happens. I can hear the drive spinning when it is on, but the drive does not mount, actually nothing happens when it is connected to my PB.
Can anyone help? any incompabilities of this drive and Mac OS X 10.4.6?

The firmware is to the bridge itself. Use the System
Profiler to see if it appears as a USB device.
ok. i connected the external drive to my powerbook, turned it on and looked in the System Profiler. there was nothing related to the drive in it.
what should i do?

200GB western Digital Drive stopped working

Hi all,

Like BGreg has described, this sounds like a power supply issue. I have seen many hard drives that have displayed similar symptoms. Usually replacing the power supply has fixed the problem.
For example one scenario happens like this - switching on the drive gets the hard drive spinning and any LED light on the drive to activate but the drive clicks away and fails to mount. Disk Utility can see the drive but, again, no amount of trying will get the drive to mount. Replace the power supply and the drive will mount without any issues.

Aspire V3-572 dolby digital plus stopped working

Description of the issue: Dolby digital plus is no longer working as it used to. Description of actions:I had two chrome windows open, and I was watching a show in one. I paused it to watch something in the other window, and when I went back to the show, the sound was back to the low quality heard when dolby isn't on. I pulled up dolby, and saw it was on. However, the equalizer scales weren't moving to the audio, and the sound quality was still poor. Upon further listening, there is a minute change when dolby is turned on, but it's not the incredible difference I'd been experiencing earlier. What I've done to muddle through the issue:-Restarted the PC, hoping the switch between browser windows had confused dolby. No luck there.-Checked Windows update to see if a driver or update had gone through recently-nothing.-Looked at the the drivers. Seems there's only one speaker driver, RealTek High Definition Audio, ver. 6.0.1.7300. It dates back to July, which I'm assuming is when the laptop was packaged. Weirdly, that's also the latest update from Acer, though Acer lists it as being updated November. Muh laptop:Aspire V3-572-51TR, purchased a month ago, most non-critical Windows updates ignored, not much else done to it. Edit: Now it's working on some things but not others.

Hi... It seems to be something with the audio driver. The dolby software is included in the factory shipped audio driver. In order t o fix this issue, you may try reinstalling the audio driver on the laptop. Here are the steps: Press and hold the Windows key and then press the C key to open Charms.Click on Search and type "Recovery".Click on 'Acer Recovery Management'.Select Reinstall Drivers or Applications.Select Content and choose the audio codec and proceed to install it. In case you are unable to install this driver, you may go to Device Manager and open "Audio, video and game controllers" and uninstall the current audio driver. Then follow the above steps to install the audio driver. It will work..

Inspire 5700 - Digital stopped working

I have the Inspire Digital 5700 speakers and a while ago the digital Din stopped working. I then used the analogue.
Ive just upgraded my soundcard to the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum that requires 3 analogue outputs. Unfortunately the decoder wants 2. The Digital Din still doesnt work.
To test the system, I tried inputting optical from the front box to the rear of the decoder and still no sound.
1. Do all of the digital inputs run from the same internal electronics ?
2. Can I replace my decoder with the DDTS-100 ?
3. Ive ordered the mini-jack to digital DIN cable from creative, but where can I get the mini Din to mini Din ? Creative doesnt sell this. Im in the UK

You could contact Customer Support directly to see if they can supply you with the DIN cable.
If you're connecting from the optical output on the drivebay to the optical input on the decoder, you'll need to change settings. This knowledgebase case covers a lot of detail:

Digital Audio not working on Satellite A505 S6012

My digital audio stopped working suddenly. I use HDMI to send the video out of my laptop to my projector. I had been successfully using, for over a year, a digital audio cable in the headphone (SP/DIF) jack to output the sound to my home receiver. The default audio set in the control panel is Realtek Digital Audio.
If I set the output to speakers and plug headphones in the jack, I get sound. If I set the output to Realtek Digital Audio and plug the digital audio cable in, I get no sound. I've tried new cables, changing the input to a different conection on my receiver, reinstalling the Realtek driver, and, as a last resort, completely recovering my laptop to the factory setting. Digital Audio still does not work.
Any suggestions? This is the main way we watch movies in my home.

After updating to OS 10.7.4 My Digital Optical Out Has Stopped Working

I use a Toslink connection and iTunes to listen to music files through two different audio systems. After the latest OS update the digital optical connection has ceased to work. I've tried it with another computer running an older OS and it works fine, no issues on either audio system.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to resolve it? I've spent 2 days with Apple Senior Tech Support and it's still not working.

The first level of tech support checked that I had the current updated OS, did several reset procedures, then connected me with Senior Tech Support. They checked what first level support did, then had me remove the com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plis and com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist files from the Audio folder in my user library and restart. That didn't work, and I had to leave for an appointment. I was given a case number and called back today.
Today we went over everything that was previously done and talked about reinstalling the OS, however decided that would not work because it would just be the same version of the OS that caused the issue. It was suggested that it was a driver issue and I contact the manufacturer of my DAC to see if there is a driver update. Here is the response:

Which is better for AUDIO: HDMI or the Digital Optical Fiber Optic Toslink Audio Cable?

Is there a difference in Audio performance between your standard HDMI hook up (for my Blue Ray Player) or adding the Digital Optical Fiber Optic Toslink Audio Cable. Which will sound better????

Well that is huge debate here. My opinion is HDMI cables are WAY over priced for what they are. Do not be lead to believe you have to have a 100 dollar hdmi cable, I think 50 is crazy high myself. My only concern is getting one so cheap that it might have poor connections or not last. Also if you run it in a wall it has to be rated for that.
I have a Rocketfish cable and it works fine. My guess would be the dynex cables are fine too. And if your not buying it from Best Buy there are other options as well.
Something else to keep in mind as well. If you only have one HDMI device and you hook it up to your reciever using HDMI you will need two cables for one device. The one that runs to the Reciever and then the one from the reciever to the tv. If you use an Optical cable you only need the one HDMI cable. Run the HDMI cable from the blu ray to the tv, and the optical line from the player to the reciever. This will give you 5.1 dolby or dts through the reciever and also sound through the tv since HDMI carries sound as well as video.
But if money (for cables) was not an issue the HDMI cable supposedly can offer the best sound quality of the two.
