Total available graphics memory not detected

I was trying to connect my notebook to tv useing HDMI cable, got message - no signal, and it said to check my drivers. I checked display adapter and monitor driver, it says they are up to date.
In performance information and tools it says - total available graphics memory not detected.
In control panel/display/advanced settings - graphics card is listed.

Hi,
The following link shows its specs:
    http://www8.hp.com/emea_africa/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=7427730#!tab=specs
It uses:
Graphics   Integrated:
  Intel® HD Graphics
And information is right with 64MB of VRAM. System will assign available system RAM to graphics up to max allowed when required.  Please try to hit F4 to send signals to monitor.
Regards.

    Nvidia panel displays complete rubbish.
They also count some system memory with the amount of vga memory, which, with dedicated videocards these days, is to no point, since the card will never be able to use it.
Your card has, like Svet already said, 3072MB dedicated videomemory and thats all its gonna utilize, since thats the amount of VRAM on the pcb.
So your buddies with 4+GB VRAM are just showing off stuff they cant use and Nvidia controlpanel shows numbers and amounts of VRAM, you'll never have available, just like that stupid Windows Performance Index shows some numbers about your system that in reallife mean diddlysquad.
Besides, there arent any 580GTX's outthere with more then 3GB VRAM aboard.
Long story short, dont get all hyped up by numbers, you got what you paid for and there's nothing wrong with your amount of memory on that card.
    Edit:
With my system Nvidia says I got 3071MB of video-memory available, but 1280MB is dedicated, dedicated being the true amount the card wil ever use, since my card has only 1280MB and not 3071MB.
Like I said they count some system-memory with it, although the card will never ever be able to use it, its just to screw people over.

  • ATI Graphics card not detected on cold boot, works on warm boot

    Hi All,
I hope you can help me out with this.
    I'm using Radeon HD7850 with ATI-Catalyst.
The issue is, if I do a cold boot (physically turn off the power, turn back on) the system won't boot into X, only tty.
At this point, a reboot works fine.
Or if I don't turn off the power, just shutdown and reboot (warm boot), it works ok.
Here's the Xorg log on cold boot:

    Thanks for the reply!
The open source driver doesn't support my card yet. I tried installing it first since its the recommended driver, but Xorg couldn't detect any display at all.
It seems the PCI BusID is not being read from the xorg.conf file. There's auto detection everytime the PC boots.

  • Graphics Card not detected.

I bought my laptop two days back. Its the new HP Pavillion dv6 laptop. I have a 2gb AMD Radeon 6770m graphics card installed. But my games do not detect it. Even when i right click on the catalyst center icon on the taskbar i have a tab called Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics where i can change the setting for intel HD Graphics which come with the new intel cores. No where in the computer was i able to change the active graphics card.

You have to set the game to high performance in the ccc
for start the 6770 will not run opengl games or apps on any dv6 or dv7 61xx

  • Discrete graphics card not detected.

    First post.
    System specs:
    Mobo: MSI Z77A-GD55
CPU: Intel Ivy Bridge i5 3570K
    GPU: eVGA GTX 580
    PSU: NZXT Hale82 750W 80 Certified
    RAM: G Skill Sniper Series 1866 8Gb DD3
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT 240G
For starters, I was running a CoolerMaster 1000W PSU and the eVGA 580 GTX in my old system. Upon upgrading, I transferred those units to the new system but can not boot up system with GTX 580. Onboard graphics work fine, so I went ahead and installed Windows onto the SSD with no problems. Once in Windows, I installed the latest Motherboard updates, and even flashed the BIOS to latest 1.4 build. Still no luck with the graphics card working on boot up.
    Things I've tried:
    - GTX 580 boots up and works fine (hence the system running now) on older Motherboard.
-Ruling out a defective GPU unit.
    - Both Coolermaster and NZXT PSU run the GTX 580 on older Motherboard.
-Ruling out a defective PSU unit.
    - Graphics card (GTX 580) would not boot up on ASUS P8Z77-V Pro Motherboard, nor the new one MSI Z77A-GD55
     -Possibly ruling out defective Motherboards.
    - Replaced i5 3570k CPU with yet another i5 3560k CPU (Same issue)
     -Ruling out a defective CPU
    - When using onboard VGA, I can get into the BIOS and the Graphics settings are set to PEG (PCI-E Graphics). Although when I shut down and install my GtX 580, still no boot up.
    - Moved the GTX 580 between the 2 top PCI-E slots, to no avail.
    - Moved 1 stick of RAM between the 4 DIMM slots and still not working.
-Reseated graphics card and made sure the 8-pin and 6-pin connectors were firmly intact.
I have done a lot of research, but have yet to find a definitive answer to my problem. I'm not ruling out a 3rd motherboard that may be defective, but I feel this is highly unlikely. Again, everything works and checks out in the system specs with the onboard graphics enabled.
I thought I'd try here to get some addition ideas from the group. Thanks for reading.

Try this; Shutdown, remove the discrete card, connect to the onboard, restart and boot all the way into Windows, restart to the UEFI/BIOS, change the graphics setting to IGD, save and enter, let it reboot into Windows, hard shutdown. Restart into UEFI/BIOS, change graphics setting to PEG, save and enter first, then hit the reset button and enter immediately back into the UEFI/BIOS checking to make sure the PEG setting is in fact set, then hard shutdown. Install the discrete card connecting all the power cables and monitor cable, start and see if it now boots into Windows with the graphics now working.
This merry-go-round procedure worked for me on 3 Z68's, no reason it won't work on a Z77.
I will try this procedure now. If it works, I will have to buy you lunch because I have NEVER heard of such hoopla!

^^Gecko, I'm not bustin' on you, but you're wrong. Or, you are, but I doubt it, one of the lucky ones.
I've gotten 3.1 installed by running the setup .exe file from the DVD via Windows Explorer. Everything seems OK except the graphics/resolution. My NVIDIA card isn't recognized and my resolution options only go up to 1280 x 800.
The Window 7 Performance Information and Tools shows this:
    "Graphics

  • Qosmio F750 - How to change dedicated graphics memory to 2GB...

In order to get my Qosmio F750 ready to run some games, I have updated all of the drivers on via the toshiba website and NVIDIA website while also downloading the relevant software. This includes updating the BIOS to version 2.00.
According to the [laptop specifications given on the Toshiba website|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/qosmio/f750/pqf75a-02y00q/specifications],
I should have the following allocation of memory to the graphics:
    "4095MB Total: 2048MB dedicated memory + 2047MB shared memory"
When I go to check the Performance Information and Tools window, I get shown the following information:
    Graphics
Display adapter type Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Total available graphics memory: 1696 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory: 64 MB
    Dedicated system memory: 0 MB
    Shared system memory: 1632 MB
    Display adapter driver version: 9.18.13.1422
    Primary monitor resolution: 1366x768
    DirectX version: DirectX 10
Of course, when I look carefully at the laptop specifications, I realize that the current graphics memory allocation corresponds to the Power Saving Mode i.e. graphics allocation when running on battery power
Normally this would be fine, however, I do not see any change in the info displayed even when I am running on AC power.
I have checked all of my power settings but even when everything is set to 'performance mode', the information displayed stays the same.
I try to look in the system bios to manually change the graphics allocation but no such option exists. Rather all options are set to performance mode...
So my ultimate question is, *How can I change the graphics memory allocation to performance mode as indicated in the system specifications?*
Is this something that occurs automatically without changing the displayed info?
Is there a driver that I have forgotten to update? Has a driver update caused this?
Has a BIOS update caused this?
On a side note, when checking the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I the directx version is displayed as version 11. So I thought the issue was with the displayed information. But even on the Diagnostic Tool gives me the same info.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me out with this.
    Thanks,
    Omair

Okay I think I get it now.
The Performance Info and Tools Window only shows the information on the Intel HD Graphics 3000.
When the specs sheet says power saving mode it means graphics using only the Intel HD Graphics.
However because of Optimus, the notebook can use either the Intel GRaphics card or the nVidia GPU.
The performance mode in the specs sheet refers to when the notebook is using the nVidia GPU.
The integrated gpu and the dedicated gpu do not run at the same time but Optimus switched between the 2 of them whenever the situation requires it. Whatever it switches to decides which 'mode' the notebook is using. The memory allocations for these 'modes' will match those of the specs sheet.
But any information about the graphics memory will not change as it only displays the info on the integrated gpu.
Well, I can finally understand what the previous posts were referring to and why the posts themselves were pretty short (there wasn't any problem needing to be fixed!).
Thank you for all of your help Randy, Akuma and PauPau

Is there any way to take this dedicated graphics up to 1024MB or at least 512MB?
When i check my graphics in osX it says 1024MB

  • 915G Combo graphic memory

I cant see that how can i fix graphic memory in bios.
How can I configure or arrange graphic memory? For example; how can i
fixed 64 MB? Which program have to be used?
Aperture size option in the bios arranges how much graphic memory reserved from the all system memory. I dont ask that. My problem is how can i fix some memory part in the aperture size memory.
    Thank you for your answers...

All of the bottom from the 30262304.pdf in http://www.intel.com
    2.2.2 Fixed Memory
Fixed is a memory allocation method addition to the Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) concept, wherein a static amount of page-locked graphics memory is allocated during driver initialization. This fixed amount will provide the total amount of graphics memory available to the system and is intended to provide the user with a guaranteed amount of graphics memory at all times. Once the fixed amount is allocated during OS boot and driver initialization, this system
memory amount will no longer be available to the OS. However, the OS will still report total system memory as including this allocated amount (as opposed to pre-allocated).
    2.2.3 DVMT Memory
DVMT is an enhancement of the UMA concept, wherein the graphics driver allocates memory as needed for running graphics applications. The graphics driver is cooperatively using this memory with other system components. If a user is not performing any graphics-intensive operations, most of the DVMT memory can be utilized by the operating system for other uses. In an environment where the user is unlikely to run games that require a large amount of memory, the memory will
be available for other uses such as database applications etc. In an environment where the user is playing games or may not run any data intensive non-graphics applications, the memory will automatically be used to optimize the graphics. Intel recommends using the DVMT setting for better overall system performance.
2.2.4 “Fixed” + “DVMT” Memory “Fixed” + “DVMT” is a memory allocation in addition to the UMA concept, wherein a static amount of page-locked graphics memory is allocated during driver initialization and an additional amount of DVMT graphics memory is allocated and de-allocated based upon system need. This
new memory allocation addition provides guaranteed amount of graphics memory while providing the capability to scale the amount of available graphics memory to a higher amount needed by applications (up to the maximum supported by the GMCH and system memory installation – see table below). This allocation method, Fixed + DVMT, allows for the static allocation of memory to guarantee a minimum amount over that which is pre-allocated and also allows for a more balanced system performance versus the Fixed only allocation method.

  • RAM upgrade not detected in PowerBook 1GHz

So I bought some cheap RAM on ebay to upgrade an old PowerBook G4 from 512MB to the maximum 1GB. It's PC133 as per the specs but when I start it up I get one beep which I believe means memory not detected. I guess the RAM isn't faulty since neither new stick works and the slots must be ok cause both worked fine with the old 256MB sticks. Could it be that the new RAM doesn't have SPD as per this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60839
    Thanks

If you've bought the RAM from someone who values you as a customer and prospective future customer, whether or not they gave you a warranty, they'll treat you well and take the RAM back for a refund or in exchange for other RAM. If they don't take a businesslike approach to customer service and don't acknowledge any obligation to you, it's easy to guess how things are going to end. All you can do is call them and state your case.

  • Will Installing more RAM improve performance, IF laptop has "available memory" not being used?

My laptop has 2x 1GB of RAM.
Right now, and usually, The Physical Memory shown in Task Manager, shows that there is "available memory" (currently it's 500megs worth). (And "system cache" says 300megs.)
There is also, right now, 2.5GB of page filing being used.
If I were to replace the 2GB of RAM with 4GB (of the same Mhz), would there be a noticable increase in performance?
    (windows XP 32bit OS)

A matched set of DDR2 ram will perform a lot faster one memory not matched. Its required for the double data rate to work. Hence 2+2 is the max you'd need/want in a 32bit machine. Windows 7 was built for large memory footprints. XP was built to run just barely in 64MB but really needed a min of 128MB to support a network connection and printing. It was never enable to truely go a whole lot further than a few machines built capable of 1GB. There was even a bug which was patch causing problems if a !GB or more was available. Just because it can see it does not mean it actually uses it !! The kernal by default is swapped in/out of ram even in larger memory systems. Why, it was is not aware of the extra memory and does not change its behavour from a 512MB machine.
As for the 1333Mhz ram the timing may be faster than the other memory used. Hence it flow the data faster on the bus. Fewer delays in various cycles including the RAS/CAS etc but thats all under the hood so to speak.

  • Display Driver Error And Less Total Graphical Memory

Hi Guys , Today i have Installed Win 8.1 x64 . Having many Trouble With it , Before I have Win 7 - it Gives Me 1500+MB  of Total Graphical Memory And Have no Problem In Installing Supported Drivers But When I Installed Win 8.1 it Gives Me only 225
MB of Total Graphic memory And Zero Dedicated And System Memory And When I Install A recommended and Supported Graphic Driver It Say me That - "Your PC Does Not reach To Minimum Requirement"
    Guys Please Help Me................!!!

    Hi rdaman,
According to your description, this issue seems to be caused by the wrong graphic driver.
1.Is the driver installed downloaded from the manufacture?
If it`s not the manufacture`s driver, I recommend you to download the driver from the graphic manufacture website and then install the driver manually.
    To install the driver manually:
Open the Device Manager from the startscreen and right click your graphic
Update Driver Software \Browse my computer for Driver Software(navigate to the driver you have downloaded)
2.Meanwhile I recommend you to update the BIOS driver from the machine manufracture.
3.Considering you suffer many troubles with Win8.1, I recommend you to search the model of your machine from the manufracture website and check its compability with Win8.1.
    Best regards

So Im stuck...... I tried to install the ati driver from the Toshiba update site but I get a error because ccc can not detect a graphic card ?????/
    What to do????
It is something special with the DVD that i have from Toshiba ?????
    Thank you very much.

    The whole issue is really mysterious. In my opinion there are two options;
Either your have used and tried to install a wrong graphic driver or there is something wrong with your GPU chip.
Are you 100% that you tired an right graphic driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
If yes, then I recommend contacting the ASP in your country because this could be really an hardware issue.
Furthermore I found you second posting in other thread
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=142621#142621
and I think more and more that this must be an graphic card issue.

  • SAPOsCol running but not working (shared memory not available)

    Dear Forum,
We have just set new passwords for SAP AD users (incl SAPService<SID> and <SID>adm), after this restarted SAP instances and servers / clusters). Everything came up well and all services, incl SAPOsCol started up automatically with the new passwords.
Everything works fine - only this morning i wanted to have a look in ST06 and the program tells me "SAPOSCOL not running? (shared memory not available).
The service is running tho, would a restart of the service do any difference, and is there any possibility that a restart of the service on a live and running system would force a system restart? (i couldnt think of any, but I hate restarting services on a live running production system).
Would it be an option to stop/start the collector from ST06?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards,
    Soren

    Hello Kaushal,
    Thank you for your answer!
I tried to start and stop/start the service from ST06, but it doesnt work. Here is a content og the log - any ideas how i could start the collector without booting the server?
