Totally confused on how best to proceed!!!!

Hi I really need some help here.
Here is the story.
I've moved into my uncles house on a temporary basis until I get my own place next year.  My uncle owns the house and pays line rental and the BT phone line is in his name.  I will be moving out in about a years time into my own flat.
Now I want to get the full BT vision package (TV, calls, BB and line rental) on a 24 month contract.  Because the BT line is in his name and because I'll be moving out in a years time I'm really unsure about how it will all work out.  Obviously my uncle will want a phone line and his original number when I move out, but I will be taking the BT Vision package to my new place.
I rang the BT vision sales line two nights ago and the guy on the phone said it would be best for me to transfer the BT line into my name and then proceed with buying the package, and then when I move into my own flat, transfer the line back into my uncles name and I will take up a new line in my flat.
But I rang again last night and spoke to a different person who said that my uncle should get the pakage in his name and me just pay him and when I move out the BT vision package could be transferred into my name.  Now I'm not sure about this and he sounded pretty vague when I asked him more about it.  For some reason this doesn't sound right and I don't want to be in a situation in a years time where my uncle is tied to the contract and I'll be forced to take another contract at my new place.  My uncle doesn't even want the tv package so he won't be happy if it can't be transferred to me.
The Bt line takeover in my name seems the best solution but would it work?
What would be the best way to proceed with this?
Thanks.

AFAIK Basic Saver line, because of its fixed cost basis wont accomodate the services you require.  In your circumstances [above] you are effectively becoming a new customer and your uncle is "leaving" BT [for a year]. IAFAIK broadband cant be hitched to a Basic Saver line.
Your choice is with evening and weekend calls or anytime option, the £ difference between the two is about £4.99 I think.  [In any event, you would probably not meet the requirements of the Basic Saver line].
I'd just select your package and phone BT. Customer options are on 0800 78 32 326.
Your uncle's a/c will be closed and you will become the a/c holder; that status reverts to him when you move out. He might need to be on hand when you ring to confirm that he wont be the a/c holder. Dont forget to state you want to retain the same phone number for the property.
I wouldnt go into chapter and verse on the detail about this when you ring up; all they need to know is that your uncle is "moving out" and that you are "moving in" and want to take on responsibility for the a/c.  Then in reverse order when you get your own flat.
I'd keep Paddy in the loop by e-mail as well, just in case.
AQ.

  • One Computer, Two Accounts - How Best to Proceed with MacOS 10.8.2?

My wife and I want to share our new iMac, and I'd like some advice on how best to do this without messing things up.
We both have iOS devices to sync, and we both are using the same iTunes Store Account. However, we each have our own iCloud account. We each have our own email accounts, Hotmail accounts, and Yahoo accounts. We each have our own account for the iMac, which I assume you would need if you wanted to maintain two different sets of Mail accounts and two different Facetime "accounts," what to speak of different desktop customization options.
Things we would like to share without duplicating files include: iPhoto library (~100 GB), iTunes media files (over 300 GB), Contacts list, (maybe) Calendar, and (maybe) Safari bookmarks. We do NOT want to share e-mail, Reminders, Facetime. Ideally, I would like for her to be able to sync her devices entirely through her iMac account. However, I am not opposed to her syncing her iOS devices through my account for some things and through her account for other things, if that is not easily avoidable.
Regarding the iTunes library, I could go either way on her having separate library files with separate ratings & playlists or just sharing the same library setup that I have. However, I would want her to have access to the same metadata that I have for all music and video files, since I have lots of custom album art as well as lyrics loaded in. Do we have to use the same library file in order to have access to the same metadata, which will be updated on a regular basis?  If so, then is there a way to do that via two different computer accounts, or does she pretty much have to sync with my account?
Now regarding iPhoto libraries, I wouldn't mind us sharing the same "library" as well as the files, including ratings and albums. I would like for the "faces" setup to be the same for both of us, if possible, so that she does not have to repeat the process of face tagging. I read in an older article that sharing the iPhoto library could be accomplished by sending the iPhoto library file to an external hard drive, but as that seemed to be an older approach, I thought I would ask here if that is still the ideal approach. I might want to send the iPhoto library file to an external HD anyway for space considerations. But if I do this, and we are both using the same library file for viewing photos, then does she still see the same albums, events, and tags that I have created already?
Is there a way to share contacts and calendars without having to share other things like Notes and Reminders? I suppose I could have her sync this information via my account, but I'd be greatful to learn of a better way if there is one.

You can share out both the iTunes library and the iPhoto Library in their respective preferences. However, the sharing account must have both iTunes and iPhoto running. You can keep the account running with those things open in the background using Fast User Switching. Enable that in the Users & Groups system prefs and then never log out, just switch to the login screen or the other account using the Fast User switching menu.
I haven't done much actual use in either, so I don't know what the limits are (like making a playlist out of the shared tracks, syncing with iPhone/iPod, etc). For iPhoto, all the photos are available, but if you want to edit one, you have to import a copy into your own library. Another option might be to not keep the media inside the Library, but store it in the /Users/Shared folder. Then, set up your Libraries to leave the content where it is (Preferences). However, I don't think you'd get the metadata for the iTunes music. I believe that is all stored within the iTunes Library.
You can share iCloud calendars so the other person can see your calendar by right-clicking on the Calendar name. There will be an option to share the calendar, there. Also, you can do so from the iCloud web interface.
I've got nothing on sharing contacts. Not sure of a good way to do that besides maintaining two sets. You can start from the same source, but it will diverge over time as contacts are added and removed individually.

  • How Best to Proceed

    All,
I have searched and not sure how best to accomplish my task.
I have a 11" 1.7 Ghz MBA that I purchased last week and I want to install Windows 7.   Okay easy enough, I have an iMac and have used Bootcamp before and know the path ahead.
I do not own a copy of Windows 7, so i (GULP) take the plunge and buy a copy from the MS Online store and select download.   I use my high speed line at work to download two files off MS webesite both the  64 bit install files (one is iso and the other is exe).
Come to find that both files are .exe files.  Okay, still no problem I will just go through BC and install windows.   I burn the .exe files onto a blank DVD and then plug in my external CD drive to my MBA.   So I am thinking I am there and ready to go, I select my partition and hit install.   The CD/DVD drive spins but I need to insert the Windows Installer CD.
Is there a file I am missing by DL Windows 7 off the internet?   I live over seas and do not have easy access to purchase windows 7 CD hence the reason I purchased a DL file from MS.   Also, I do not have any files with a .iso extension.  If I left out any pertinent informaiton let me know.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

you need to burn/write the file to be bootable DVD either with Windows or there is a utility for Mac OS X to do so.
    From earlier thread:
We had to download a free iso burning program for Mac (we used SimplyBurns Mac). That program runs you through the necessary steps to properly burn the iso file you need. After doing so, Bootcamp recognized the installation file and everything worked as it should.

  • Time Capsule out of space for backups - how best to proceed?

I have a 500GB 802.11n (2nd Generation) Time Capsule which I use for Time Machine backups from my late-2008 Aluminium Unibody 250GB MacBook.  My problem arose because I have used 229.33 GB of my hard disk on my MacBook, so I have less than 20 GB of free space on my MacBook.  My iPhoto Library is 103 GB and yesterday I dragged it to an External Hard Drive (1TB).  However, I have not deleted the iPhoto Library from my hard drive yet because I wanted to 'test' whether Time Machine would back up the new location of my iPhoto library to my Time Capsule .... the problem I have now is that Time Machine will not backup at all
I have tried several times to perform a Time Machine backup today, without success.  I receive a message that 'Backup requires 246.75 GB but only 170.97 GB are available.
I've checked the TM backups on the Time Capsule and the earliest, latest and ONLY backup is one performed yesterday at 10.18am prior to my moving the iPhoto Library to the EHD.  The EHD is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and is partitioned into four equal partitions of 250 GB (the fourth partition is slightly less.  The 1st partition has a SuperDuper Bootable Clone of my hard drive (including the iPhoto Library on the Hard Disk).  The 2nd partition is the new location for the iPhoto Library.  The 3rd and 4th partitions are empty.
Can someone suggest whether I would be safe to somehow (how?) delete the existing TM backup on Time Capsule and simply start with a 'brand new' TM backup tonight?  I'm thinking that if I have all 500GB available then TM SHOULD be able to perform a full backup and then I'll be OK with incremental backups for a while.
Also, is it possible/feasible (I know it wouldn't be the safest thing to do) to backup the iPhoto Library on the 2nd partition of my EHD to one of the blank partitions?
i would be grateful for any suggestions as to the best way to proceed
    Cheers
    Tricia

    Cvdk,
This is why it may not be a good idea to store other files on the same disk/partition as the Time Machine backups. consider the following:
Here is Apples’ line on this: “Time Machine works best if you use your backup disk only for Time Machine backups. If you keep files on your backup disk, Time Machine won’t back up those files, and the space available for Time Machine backups will be reduced.” [http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11430.html]
This hasn't stopped some from successfully partitioning Time Machine hard disks and storing data on the other partition. As long as the Time Machine backup has its' own partition, you avoid any potential opportunities for conflict.
However, this is not an option for Time Capsule users as there is no easy way of partitioning the Time Capsules’ internal hard disk without elaborate effort. Granted, the Time Capsule is advertised as being able to perform both as a Time Machine backup destination and as a shared network drive [Apple Store (U.S.) - Time Capsule - 500 GB]
Nevertheless, some have experienced problems with maintaining files/folders occupying the same disk as Time Machine backups. In this case, they use the Time Capsule hard disk solely for Time Machine backups. Then attach an external hard disk to the Time Capsules USB port and store additional files there. This added disk will still be available to all Macs that can access the Time Capsule. (Note though, that any USB disks attached to the USB port of the Time Capsule can not then be backed up to the Time Capsule via Time Machine. Time Machine will only backup your Macs internal hard disk or any external hard disks physically attached to the Mac. Time Machine can not backup one remote device to another remote device.)
    Hope this clarifies things.
    Cheers!

  • Totally confused on how to keep separate itunes accounts on one computer

Our troubles started several years ago when we added in another iphone into the mix.  Currently, we have 2 iphones and 1 ipod sharing one macbook.  I thought that we each had our own Apple ID accounts set up and that I also had separate libraries set up on our Macbook (we each have different account names) but when ever my husband or I make a change to our itunes library it happens to both of them.  When I went through his phone, it seemed as though he had my ***@yahoo.com account as the one he was signed into under Settings/iTunes & App Store.  So I signed my Apple ID out and signed him in using his ****@me.com Apple ID but then it automatically reverts back to my ***@yahoo.com Apple ID.  We both use the same ****@yahoo.com email address for our primary email - is this part of the problem?
Can someone please explain to me how to essentially start over and ensure that we have totally separate - non connected - Apple IDs/iTunes Libraries?
I'm feeling like a newbie! gah!  Thanks a ton!

huh??I have TC-605.You don't need to create a bootable USB flash drive.  You just have to follow the instructions. And read the README file.  Copy the unzipped/extracted BIOS files (P11.B3) that you just downloaded to a USB flash drive. (I always quick format the USB flash drive to fat32 before I copy the files to it, but not sure if that's necessary.)Open an admin command promptIf your flash drive has a drive letter of F you would typeF:cd winflash So it would look like this: F:\win>flash After its flashed, then you go in to BIOS settings and load defaults F9 and then save and exit F10. My instructions are abbreviated, so make sure you read the instructions (README) instead of following mine....in case I missed anything. If your computer came with P11.xx then you must use P11.xx.  You can't use P21 versions. The L versions are for Linux....not Windows. Edit: You can flash to P11.B3    if your current BIOS is P11.A4

  • IMac white screen - how best to proceed

My iMac will not start up - stops on the white screen.  I can access the files using Back to my Mac and am transferring some important files from the iMac to my MBP  (I will try reinstalling OSX, but want to try everything else first in case I can't use Back to my Mac after reinstalling), BUT
    1.  Cannot access the Mail library from the MBP (the iMac Mail is set to POP) as the Library has gone and hidden itself again!!!!!!!!!!!  (Why on earth did Apple make this a hidden file?) - so - would it be likely to work if I tried to remotely change the iMac mail account to smtp, or, is there any way of unhiding the Library remotely?,  OR
    2.  The iMac is backed up to Time Machine - could I access the Library from the MBP via this route?, AND
    3.  My iPhone, Ipod etc are all linked to iTunes on the Imac - if I can get to them can I move the iTunes files to the MBP without a problem?, AND
    4.  Is there any way (if the iMac is truely dead) to remove the hard disk either to use it as an external disk or to ensure it is destroyed along with the data on it?
    Thanks

Insert your original grey installation disc and restart while holding the C key, choose you language and when you get to the screen with atop menu bar go to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility. Choose your hard drive in the panel to the left and click repair. When it's done you can quit DU, restart and you should be good to go.

  • Moved to smaller SSD - how best to handle iTunes situation

I had about 40GB of iTunes data.
After, installing the new SSD, my music folder is currently empty.
How best can I move my iTunes essentials to the SSD and leave most of the music on the external drive where the original cloned HDD sits?
    Thank you!

I don't have iTunes11.  I am assuming it behaves similarly to earlier versions as regards to library behavior.
So what I was hoping I can do is a scenario where I iTunes can launch alright, but not play music until I connect the drive with the music. So when I need the music, I will have to attach the USB drive.
I am confused by what you are trying to accomplish here. Your phone can't sync if your music is on another drive and that drive isn't attached.  There would be few reasons to have your media on one drive and still start iTunes.  You can do it but anything requiring that media won't work, such as syncing.
    Responses to:
    1) If iTunes will automatically launch when the phone is attached then it should continue to do so, but you will need to make sure the drive is attached first.
    2)  No need for symbolic links and those don't fool iTunes anyway.  If your whole library is on an external drive, start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the itunes folder on that drive.  It will automatically use that library whenever iTunes starts.  However, should you forget to attach the drive before starting iTunes it will probably make or revert to any copy on the internal drive and you will have to restart it with the option key held down, etc.  Yes, this is annoying but unfortunately Apple is heading two different directions with their computers and drives getting smaller while marketing multimedia which requires larger drives than previously. Of course their solution is Match but personally if I don't have a copy on a drive totally under my control I am not comfortable.

  • Trying to create "screencast", and am totally confused...

    Hi.
So, I used snapZpro and captured a section of my screen, and saved it out as a quicktime with animation codec, 10 frames per second.....
I then created a project in FCP, and brought in my files... Created a sequence, and put my mov in there.. It immediately set the sequence to DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, the canvas window shows my footage but it looks wrong-- like the fonts are unreadable, blurry, etc.
So, I went into sequence settings and set it to Animation, and then I have a RED timeline showing that I need to render everything.. and I am totally confused as to why since the footage is the animation codec... The frame rate in the sequence is 29.97, I thought that was perhaps why it's red, but there is no option in the "edit timebase" for 10fps.. Its only options between 23 and 60...
My goal is to make some basic edits, and then output again with the animation codec.
Can anyone please let me know how I should proceed? Rendering my footage seems like the wrong thing to do-- especially since it says it will take 2 hours to do it!!!
    Thanks.

Final Cut Pro works with industry standard codecs, pixel dimensions and frame rates. As soon as you try making custom settings, it's no longer standard and you have to render. Snapz Pro was never designed to work in conjunction with a professional video editing system. You should try [iShowU|http://www.shinywhitebox.com/ishowuhd/main.html] instead, which will let you export to any codec on your computer.

  • My Apple ID is valid but can't open icloud account how do i proceed?

My "Apple ID is valid but can't open icloud account" is the message I receive when I try to sign in to icloud so how do i proceed?  I want to install to my ipad and iphone Apple's locator service in my systems, I have a PC for work reasons where I do my apple safari and Itunes and now installed icloud but I don't recall having an icloud account.  I guess I do have an accout but how do I not confuse it with my current Apple Id account as I retrieve or create a new icould account?  Thanks.

You are getting this message because you are trying to create an iCloud account on a PC by signing with your Apple ID.  You can only sign into an existing account on a PC.  You first have to create iCloud account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  After creating your account on one of these devices you will then be able to sign into the account using this ID on your PC.

  • Help !! ios 6,iphone,Two ipods & and ipad totally confused !!

    Please can someone help?
I have an iphone 4 and an ipad, both my boys have an ipod and everything runs under my apple account.
My first problem is that neither of the children can face time or message. Have set them both up with gmail accounts but neither ipod will accept the associated passwords despite being re set to ensure they are correct.
They cant receive messages from me, which is what i wanted for them, do i need to give them each an apple id? and if so how do i regulate their app store purchases?
and when they are given an app store voucher, whos id does it go on?
My second problem is that since upgrading to ios6 one of the boys is getting all my text messages showing up on his ipod and the other still cant open his messages.
I have messed around with the settings on both ipods but to no avial and I am now totally confused.
All I want is for someone to explain how the boys can face time/message, how my messages stop from appearing on their ipods and as for my ipad well i give up!!
please surely it cant be this difficult?

You have to set them each up with their own Apple ID, then log out from your Apple ID on their devices and log in with theirs. Make sure that Facetime and Messages are set to receive calls/messages on their Apple IDs, not yours.

  • Bind by position? I got totally confused

is it default that the parameters in the .net codes are binded to that in the pl/sql codes by position? i get totally confused.
very simple codes in the pl/sql are like this:
    ===========================
    FUNCTION create_saint(saint_name IN VARCHAR2,saint_ct IN VARCHAR2)
    RETURN VARCHAR2
    ===========================
and "oracom" is a OracleCommand calling the function, when i add the parameters like this:
    ===================================
    oracom.Parameters.Add("saint_name",OracleDbType.Varchar2,"aaa");
    oracom.Parameters.Add("saint_ct",OracleDbType.Varchar2,"bbb");
    ===================================
i woule like the parameter "saint_name" is "aaa" and "saint_ct" is "bbb" if they are binded by position. but error occurs and when i traced the execution of the pl/sql code, i found that the parameter "saint_name" was "bbb" and "saint_ct" was null.
shouldn't they be binded by position? and when i used the
    "oracom.BindByName = true;"
the two parameters were just binded correctly.
so i just wonder when and how the parameters are binded by position.

    Hello,
Yes, parameters are bound by position by default when using ODP.NET - this is controlled by the BindByName property which defaults to false. If you want to use bind by name, just set this property to true as you've shown.
Since you are using a FUNCTION I would guess that you did not bind the function return value first, which is required. ODP.NET will generate code similar to this:
    begin
      :1 := function_name(:2, :3, :4);
    end;Hope that helps,
    Mark

  • Totally Confused by Licensing!!

    Hi all
I am trying to evaluate EM 10G for our organisation and I am totally confused by the Licensing!! I have spoken to our Oracle Account Manager and that has not helped.
As I understand it you get the license for EM with Database Licenses.
So assume that we are able to install and use EM to monitor and manage all of our instances (250+).
The parts I could purchase are
    • Diagnostics Pack
    • Configuration Management Pack
    • Tuning Pack
    • Change Management Pack
Having a quick look it seem like a lot of the EM functionality (alerts etc) only come with the Diagnostics Pack.
I suppose the question I am asking is how much functionality will we get without purchasing any of the management packs?
    Regards
    Ben

    Ben,
When you install EM10g Grid Control you can navigate to the setup page for Management Pack Access.
This is where you tell EM10g which packs you are licensed for.
It also explains the packs in the form pasted below.
As far as I am aware the Change Management Pack is no longer around in 10g?
I'd hate to have to look after 250 databases without the Diagnostics pack at least...
    Thanks,

  • I am getting disc full messages on my Mac, unable to empty trash because not enough space, how do I proceed or do I need to increase my 4gig of memory

I am getting disc full messages on my Mac, unable to empty trash because not enough space, how do I proceed or do I need to increase my 4gig of memory in which case how do I go about this process.

You are confusing RAM (Random Access Memory) with hard drive data storage space.
Your hard drive storage is getting too full if you can't empty your Mac's main trash.
Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
( as you mentioned, you can't empty this as your hard drive is too full.)
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!
