Totally confused with iCloud and multiple devices

Ok, So we have two each of the iPods, iPads and now iPhones.  Do we all share the same iCloud? Can we share apps through the cloud? How do I switch my iPad to the new one I got to give this one to my son. I am so new to all this apple stuff. Only been a few months and I'm still really confused.  What all goes to the iCloud? How do we see what's in the iCloud?  I really the the idiots instructions I think to figure this all out?  Can anyone help me?  How can I print from the iPad?  Everything I see says iOS 10 something?  I believe I only have 6 something?

Do we all share the same iCloud?
icloud is designed so that only one user uses it to keep his/her devices in sync.  When multiple users use the same icloud account, they will then be sharing the same email address, contacts, calendars, notes, etc.  Usually that is not what two people want to do.
Can we share apps through the cloud?
You buy apps from the itunes store, that's different than icloud, and multiple users can use the same itunes account so that they can share apps, music, etc.  For a family, everyone usually uses the same Apple ID for an itunes account and individual Apple IDs for their icloud accounts.
How do I switch my iPad to the new one I got to give this one to my son.
What do you mean by "switch.. ipad to the new one"?
What all goes to the iCloud?
Backups of iOS devices, Apple services that you turn on to share data (settings>icloud; on an iOS device), third party apps that use icloud to sync their data between devices, email, photo stream, and more.
How do we see what's in the iCloud?
Icloud is designed primarily for syncing data between the devices of the user - like getting all computers and devices to have the same contacts or calendars.  When you set up syncing (settings>icloud, turn on the services you want synced between your devices), some of that data will also be available to a computer's browser when you log into icloud.com.  Otherwise you view the data using the associated app, like the Calendar app to see events.  Other things that may be on icloud, like backups cannot be seen.  Also iCloud does not provide a photo gallary that others can view in a browser.
How can I print from the iPad?
For that you need an "airprint" compatible printer. See,
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
You can also print to a printer that's connected to a computer, but that computer needs special software, like Printopia for macs.
Everything I see says iOS 10 something?  I believe I only have 6 something?
There is no "10", version 6 is the current one.  You are probably thinking of OSX, whose versions are 10.x.y.  That's for macs, not iOS devices.

  • Looking for a good document on family syncing with iCloud and multiple iOS devices

We have recently migrated off of Android devices for the whole family except for a Kindle Fire HD for my daughter.  We all have an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch type device that we want to sync our family calendars/reminders/notes to.  Is there a good document on how to setup this family environment so that our notes/reminders/appointments are all in sync on each other's device. That way we all know what each other is doing. Do we each have to have a separate Apple ID or do we all share the same Apple ID to make this syncing work.  I think I get how to make this work between my PC, 2 - iPhones (work and personal) and iCloud Web.  Now how do I layer on my other family members into my calendar digital Cloud?  HELP ME PLEASE.  I HAVE A DIGITAL MESS.
Right now I have a personal Apple ID for my personal devices, new iPhone 6 Plus coming.  I have a separate Apple ID for my Work iPhone 4s.  My wife and kids have iPhone 5s.  Wife and son have an iPad.
Please tell me I don't have to go see Rush Limbaugh to figure out how to make all this work.
    Thanks,
    Bob

You could each have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs, and also share a "family" account for syncing a family calendar, notes and reminders.  That will allow you to maintain still keep your contacts, and other data and photo streams separated while having access to the shared the family data in the secondary account.  It also gives everyone their own free 5GB of storage for their backups, etc.  The shared family calendar, notes and reminders will appear alongside your other calendars, notes and reminders in the corresponding apps on your devices.  You'll just need to be sure to select the correct account within these apps when entering data to ensure it is added to either your personal or the shared family account.
To do this, create your primary accounts in the usual way, by going to Settings>iCloud and signing in with separate IDs and turn on the data sets you want to sync with iCloud.  Then create a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with a different ID and have everyone add this account to their devices as a shared family account.  You can sync mail, contacts, calendars, notes and reminders with the secondary account, although you may want to just turn on calendars, notes and reminders.
You can continue to share the same iTunes store ID on all devices if you wish.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.  Also, each person should use their own ID (such as the primary iCloud ID) for iMessage and FaceTime, otherwise you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.
If you don't want to do all of this, and are primarily concerned about sharing your calendars, you can do that as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a8694.
Another option to consider is to look into the new Family Sharing feature of iOS 8 if all of your devices will support iOS 8: https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/.  The details on this haven't been released yet but should start to appear after it is released tomorrow.

  • ICloud and multiple devices

How is Photostream, contacts handled between iDevices? More specifically, my wife and I share the same Apple ID on our separate iPhones, will the photos she takes with her phone be sent to my phone and vice versa? If she adds a new contact to her phone, will it be added to mine?
Finally, can I tell iTunes/iCloud what folder to download pics from photostream to my computer or does it default to a specific folder?

Yes since it's all tied to an AppleID whatever changes on you wife's device will be reflected on yours and vice versa.
Photostream is controlled from iPhoto, so I would assume that you can select a specific album.

  • Safari-Bookmarks won't sync with iCloud and other devices, MobileMe still "active"?

Hello, I've got a problem with my iMac runnning 10.7.5
"He" does not want to sync bookmarks (safari) from the local  iMac to anywhere else.
(I also use a Macbook white, iPad 1 and iPhone 4).
Not to other devices, not to iCloud.
I can switch off and on the "sync bookmarks"-checkbox as often as i want - nothing happens after "merge".
    One ore maybe interesting Information:
In my system-Settings i can still click on "MobileMe" and the button "move to iCloud" ist still shown.
If I press the button, I see the Erorr-message "mobileme has ended" or something linke this.
If I start the MobileMe-"Application", I get an error after some seconds "service not available".
Some months ago i changed from a older iMac to the newer one (using TimeMachine-Restore).
I can not remember if the problem came with this switch or not.
    Any hints?
    Thanks!
    Greetings from the cold Germany.

Yes, I could disconnect from Mobileme but this does not change anything regarding the problem.
bookmarks are still not transfered to other devices.
In the system-Settings, the mobileMe-Entry is still available and I coud try to "sign on to mobileme"
Disable and enable bookmark-sync after disconnecting from mobileme does not change anything.
The Merge of the Bookmars (question comes after disable and enable again) takes ohly 0,0005 seconds to merge. Very fast.
One more thing: if I log on to iCloud, I can nowhere find anything regarding bookmarks.
Where to find the bookmarks online normally??? I remember some years ago, using the running mobileme-service, i could access my bookmarks from any pc all around the world...
    Any further hints?

  • Help with icloud and multiple users in iTunes

Our family music is under my iTunes/apple id.  My mother, husband and I all synch to iTunes on one computer.  Can we set up multiple icloud accounts for synching our contacts separately?

Yes, that's the usual advice - everyone use the one itunes account and each user has his/her own icloud account.

  • Photo Stream with iPhoto and multiple devices...

It is possible to disable the upload of photos to photostream from selected devices like an iPhone?  I like the idea of photoshare, but don't like that it automatically uploads all of my phone's pics to my iPhoto on my shared Mac at home.

Turn PhotoStream off on the device you want to exclude

  • HT204053 I want to be able to setup a generic corporate Apple ID to use with icloud and Find my Iphone, that will allow me to have more than 10 devices assigned to the ID. What do I do?

I want to be able to setup a generic corporate Apple ID to use with iCloud and Find my iPhone, that will allow me to have more than 10 devices assigned to the ID. How do I go about creating this account?

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but if you create a new iCloud account with a different ID your existing ID isn't effected by this.  It will continue to work as it does now, you will just have an additional Apple ID.  If you have an earthlink email address you can continue to use it as a separate account, and it can continue to be your default account if you set it to be (in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account).  If I'm misunderstanding your question, please explain further.

  • I have set up all my mac devices to sync with iCloud and all work except for email. When I delete on one device, the delete doesn't occur on the other devices.

I have set up all my mac devices to sync with iCloud and all applications work except for email. Incoming messages appear on all devices but when I delete on one device, the delete doesn't occur on the other devices.

Thank you for your interest. I use apple mail to access my two accounts -I guess they are 3rd party accounts. One is a gmail acount and the other is a bigpond account. I admit to a lack of a high level of literacy when it comes to the language around all of this. For example, I am aware that I have an iCloud email account as I managed to set it up, but don't really understand the purpose of it as the last thing I need is yet another email account to oversee.

  • TS3992 My notes won´t syncronice with iCloud and I have turned it on in the IOS device. What do I do wrong?

My notes won´t syncronice with iCloud and I have turned it on in the IOS device. What do I do wrong?

Make sure you have Notes turned to On in Settings>iCloud.  Also, open Notes and tap Accounts on the top left, then make sure you are creating the notes you want to sync with iCloud in the iCloud account (and not something else like On My iPhone).

  • Got a new iPad and set up to sync with iCloud and now asking for password which I never set. How do I get on device if I don't know what it thinks password is?

Help.  I just got a new iPad 2 and set up sync with iCloud and no password.  Now asking for a password and I never set one up.  What password does it want: iTunes, iPhone (no real password there either).  Tried as many passwords as I could think with the iPad locking me out since I don't have the password!  Would like to use the iPad but can't get on to try it.
    Thanks.

So I guess it will only be new apps that I download that are allowed to give me their updates while 13 updates wait for me on an ID I can no longer access.
    Yes...  sorry.
In the future, if need be, you can re download your purchases for free  >  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Good rule of thumb is to back up your purchases regardless  >  Mac App Store: Backing up your app purchases

  • I use a Win7 PC with iCloud and Outlook 2010 for syncing my calendar and contacts. I can enter data in my Outlook Calendar and it will appear in iCloud, but data entered in iCloud does not sync back to Outlook.  ICloud syncs to my iphone fine both ways.

I use Win 7 PC with iCloud and Outlook 2010 for syncing my Contacts and Calendar.  They have stopped syncing...mostly.
Now, appointments I enter on my local Outlook (iCloud) Calendar goes up to iCloud fine.  But, data I enter on iCloud directly does not come down to my local Outlook iCloud Calendar.  If I reboot the computer, the iCloud data shows up.
Also, Contacts I try to enter on my Outlook (iCloud) Contacts goes up to iCloud fine, but does not show up in my local iCloud Contacts.
All syncing works with my iPhone.
I have signed out of iCloud on PC.  I have stopped syncing and re-started.  No change.
I have an .aplzod folder for iCloud.  I have a separate Earthlink.net.pst email account in Outlook and a me.com.pst Outlook email account (which I don't actually use) listed under Data Files.
Any help would be appreciated.  Curious that Outlook will upload to iCloud but not receive downloads unless I reboot.  However, rebooting does not download the missing Contacts.
    Jim Robbins

    Hi Jim!
You've started off with some good troubleshooting steps, so let's see if we can take this a little further and figure out what the issue is with your iCloud contacts and calendars. I have two articles here that will help you troubleshoot this issue a little further, but the troubleshooting steps for both articles are exactly the same, so I will lay those out for you here:
Note: When using iCloud Control Panel 2.0 and later, iCloud Calendar event descriptions in Outlook 2010 do not support text formatting (bold, italics, or underline), HTML, images, or attachments. The contextual (right-click) menu has also been disabled.
If you are having trouble with a PC (with Outlook 2007 or 2010) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Verify that you are using a Windows configuration that is supported by iCloud. For more information, see iCloud system requirements.
When enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel, part of the setup process is to copy your Calendars data from the default Outlook ".pst" file to iCloud, and then remove the Calendars from the ".pst" file by placing them in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook. The Calendars data is then stored in the iCloud data set within Outlook so that changes can be pushed to and from Outlook by iCloud. Be sure you are looking for your data within the iCloud dataset within Outlook after enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel. The deleted files can be seen by viewing Deleted Items within your Outlook Folder List. This is not iCloud removing your data; iCloud simply copies your data into the iCloud data set and then removes the local Calendars data by placing it in the Deleted Items folder.
Make sure your computer is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com and iCloud.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud calendars and events will not update in Outlook. Click here for more information about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if you are online as is necessary for iCloud Calendar. This also tests if the ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Outlook requires port 443 access to iCloud in order to push and pull updates to and from the iCloud Calendar servers.
Verify that your iCloud member name is entered into the iCloud Control Panel pane. See iCloud Setup for more information about setting up iCloud on Windows.
Completely close and reopen the iCloud Control Panel.
If you recently made changes in Outlook and they are not moving to your other devices or vice-versa, click the Refresh button in Outlook.
Turn iCloud Calendar off and back on:
    Close Outlook.
    Open the Windows Control Panel:
In Windows 8, move the pointer to the upper-right corner of the screen to show the Charms bar, click the Search charm, and then click the iCloud Control Panel on the left.
In Windows 7 and Vista, choose Start menu > All Programs > iCloud > iCloud.
Remove the checkmark in the checkbox next to Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks, and click Apply. Wait a few seconds, then replace the checkmark, and click Apply.
Open Outlook and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
Ensure the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active within Outlook.
    Outlook 2010:
    Open Outlook 2010.
    Click the File menu.
Click Options in the left panel of the Outlook window.
Click Add-Ins in the left panel of the Outlook Options window.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
For Outlook 2007, follow these steps to verify the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active
    Open Outlook 2007.
From the Tools menu, choose Trust Center.
Select Add-ins from the left column.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
For additional information about managing Add-ins with Microsoft Outlook, see this Microsoft support document.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

  • IPad syncing with iCloud and Exchange = problems ?

    Greetings,
I am using Apple products since 2 years ago. Everything started with an iPod Touch 64 and things grew to an iPhone4, iPad and now, an iPad 2.
I also have a Motorola Xoom (Honeycomb 3.2 based), a Samsung Galaxy S2 and a HTC Desire Z with Android 2.3.3.
All devices are configured to sync mails, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with an Exchange Server. Until iOS5 and iCloud, there were no problems whatsoever. Contacts created on any device used to replicate to the others without a problem, although the iDevices (iOS based) never understood “categories”, a resource commonly used in an outlook environment to help sorting things out.
Last week, Ibought the iPad2. Updated it and configured it to use the same Exchange Server as the other devices. Also, I chose to use iCloud.
After that, I noticed that on a daily basis, contacts would appear without categories, first day, a few, around 5. Second day, 10 more. Third day, more 20. After the second day, I also noticed that the “display as” field (also known as “FiledAs”) was starting to show names with Last, First order. Here in Brazil we sort names as First Last. Of course, outlook, all android devices and also the iPad were all configured correctly (First, Last).
The problem was getting bigger every day. Yesterday, 900+ of my almost 2000 contact list were mixed up, missing their categories and also had their first and last names changed in the Filed As field.
After deleting, editing, restoring backups etc. more than once, I have finally found that the iCloud is probably the culprit.
Changed my iPad config to keep from syncing with iCloud and configured it to backup locally.
Deleted all accounts in all devices, deleted all data from contacts. Configured the accounts and left the devices syncing. Restored a backup. All devices synced and received the contacts.
Surprise: problem solved. So far, no missing categories, no inverted First, Last names. Maybe if anyone find himself in the same situation, it might help.

I have the same problem. My MacPro isn't on Lion, as I have lots of software that isn't compatible yet. But I have 10.7.2. on my MacBookPro and iOS5 on my iPhone and iPad.
I would like to go to iCloud for those devices that are capable to run it, but I do not want to loose sync services for my MacPro which is on 10.6.8. Will iCloud and MobileMe be in sync until 30.06.2012, so I can use them in parallel, or do I have to wait until all computers are updated to Lion?

  • HT4436 sync with icloud and pc

i sync my phone to my pc now i have ipad to and want to sync with pc , phone and ipad
can i sync with icloud and still sync to my pc when connected

You shouldn't try to sync data such as contacts and calendars with both iCloud and iTunes if that's what you're asking.  If you do, it will create duplicates in contacts and calendars.  You should sync with either iCloud or iTunes, but not both.  You can (and should) continue to sync your devices with iTunes to manage iTunes media (apps, music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, etc.).

  • Itunes show duplicate, 1 with icloud and 1 without. are they both on hard drive?

itunes shows duplicates - 2 with icloud and 1 without.
are they both on hard drive?
    which ones should i delete?

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
The should then show in your iTunes library. They are not anywhere else.
