Well I actually think my phone line going down was a blessing in disguise. After weeks of terribly slow broadband with no apparant cause, the exchange acknowledged a fault and from wedneday it has been uninterupted service.

i tried to install an update of my ios via itunes and my phone was totally cleared. right now im trying to activate it again, its not working. what can i do?

You will need to restore the software via the following procedure:
Turn your device off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your device and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a device in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

  • Intermittent Broadband Failure

I have BT Home Hub 2, worked fine for the last couple of years. Recently started to get intermittent Broadband failure, sometimes twice a day, sometimes twice a week.
When it fails the 'phone light' flashes orange, the rest of the lights are steady blue. At this time the BB phone is dead, the main phone line is OK. After some minutes it comes back OK, reset also seems to fix it.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

Are you sure it's the phone light that goes orange ?
I'm in the same boat. HH2 was ok(ish) for a while then started to drop out, just for a couple of seconds at a time. On mine, the BraodBand light goes Orange.
I've had new cable and new main connection box (with built in filter), but to no avail.
If yours is like mine, BT will have a log of the outages. The engineer that visited me called the appropriate office when he was here.   I like that idea, as you sometimes get the impression that BT / Engineers etc don't always believe what you say.
Mine still does it, in fact it dropped out for 3 hours the other day, but I think that was a separate issue.
You will see lots of other people on these pages with the same problem.  I don't know what causes it,,,,,, and apparently, neither do BT,,,, or it would be fixed.
    Good Luck

  • BT released another Totally Unlimited Broadband pa...

    Hi
I have recently upgraded to the top normal broadband package BT just released at the start of
this month Totally Unlimited Broadband extra which is priced at £21 per month + Line rental
from £10.75 and this was their top normal broadband package on their website.
I have just noticed today BT has just released yet another Totally Unlimited Broadband
package just a day or two ago called Faster Unlimited Broadband which is priced
at £26 per month + Line rental from £10.75.
Looking at the description of both packages on the website below, they are identical and
have the exact same features and up to speeds thought the new just released Faster
Unlimited Broadband package for some reason is 5 pounds more per month.
Does anybody know what the difference is between the Unlimited Broadband extra
package and this new Faster Unlimited Broadband package?
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/packages
    Thank you for the response.

    Unlimited Broadband extra
You get 50Gb cloud, and Netprotect included.
Can`t see a Faster Unlimited Broadband package.

  • Broadband Now working at last.

After 2 months of non stop dissconnections Sky have eventually fixed my Broadband.A total of 3 Open Reach Engineer visits and 1 Sky Engineer.I understand that Intermittent faults are hard to diagnose.Eventually it was an intermittent line fault with BT - even thogh they said it was "now OK" on each visit. My advise to people with this type of fault is to bear with it and KEEP contacting Sky - they will call you back if you do not have a Land Line. Even on your moblie phone. My main gripe was : 1/ They go round in circles each time you phone them and ask you to do the same old thing that you have done each time you phone them - that is - reset your router - check for noise on line etc etc etc..It is totally infuriating - like a blinking mantra - even though you have told them you have done this on each occasion - mine was over 12 phone calls!!This was not initially Skys fault because  they rent the line from BT.But the contract is fully with Sky.They also should not tell you how much it is costing them to get BT out to look at faults - not my concern   -is that supposed to make me feel guilty?? Anyway - thank you Sky -  it apperars you have resolved the fault - it has not dropped in days - its a good speed as well and a good price compared to others.Credit where credit is due this time - well done!!Keith

Sky aren't charged for BT callouts, unless BT decide the problem is beyond the master socket (ie your extensions or equipment). Then they may be charged around £130 which can be passed on to the customer.

  • Slooooooooooooooow and intermittent broadband

About a week ago, 27th Sept, I received an email from BT telling me "Good news
This is to let you know that we've upgraded your line and you should now have an improved, more consistent broadband connection, and maybe a faster speed too. "
Ha I immediately thought, I wonder how long that will last but checked its with Bt Speedtester and sure enough my 6mb speed was up to 15mb.
That was fine for two days. Now its intermittent, sometimes its 15mb, sometimes its less than 200kb, sometimes it simply doesn't work.
So I ring Bt and lose the will to live waiting.......thankyou for holding we are very busy at the moment, yep I know that because you can never deal with anything first time. So I get through I explain that all was fine until this upgrade (downgrade?) in service. Ah, when did this upgrade happen (check your ******* records I want to say) but no I have to read out this Bt email to Bt India.
All apologies, thank you for waiting, the excruciating slowness of the whole procedure, can I check this, can I check that, can I measure the length of the drive and tell him what colour it is........no he didn't but anyone who has dealt with these fools knows what I mean.
Do you think BT its got anything to do with your works, I mean neighbours are reporting problem s too....uh no its seems that such a coincidence could not possibly occur.
Yet BT I continue to pay you a full fee every month for this dire pathetic service.
Contract ends soon. Think about it BT.

  • Two years of intermittent broadband faults

After two years of intermitent faults countless calls to Bt, 3 engineer visits , all engineers agree i have intermittent fault. Today the engineer visited and said he thought he may have found a problem and said it would be all good, LOL NOW I HAVE NO PHONE LINE .
TWENTY YEARS PLUS customer with Bt but will never recomend them again until i have somthing to recomend .

OK, so this is a community forum, where we can all vent and propose our own suggestions to other BT customers with similar problems.
Its quite funny how we are all technical support these days, often knowing a good deal more than the customer care people we are dealing with, but lacking any access to get the problems resolved.  Customer Care seems to be a barrier to that access, rather than the gateway.
Anyway, my point is that when I had a plain 1Mbps Broadband Service, it was better than now.  Pages loaded a little slower, but it was RELIABLE.   Then WiFi got all complicated, and I struggle to get a strong signal just metres from my hub.  Simply walk to another room or round the corner and you lose 75% of the signal - it really seems to be line of sight these days.
Now I have 5Mbps to the Hub - luxury, except that the uplink back to the exchange is slower than a dial-up modem at <100kbs.   I am lucky if I re-boot the hub to get 400kbps uplink, but then it drops every HOUR.
This lack of reliability is worse than the slower link.
I am awaiting an engineer to 'check my external wiring' which has not changed in 10 years.  This was after having the riot act read to me about being charged if they can somehow make it my fault instead.
I had been having problems with the Hub2 being very poor and unable to handle Port Forwarding or DHCP tables, and it took 2 years to get a replacement Hub (v4).  Definitely quicker interface and smarter hub, but the link has been bouncing about all over the place for weeks now.
On the plus side, the call to 150 on the phone got me to a real Customer Care person within a few minutes, and they stayed on the call and they escalated it.  First time for 5 years I think.  The uplink was SOO bad the online chat stood no chance.
    Lets see what happens.

  • Intermittant Broadband Connection

After many years of having a good broadbabd service with BT, I decided two things. 1. to get my telephone account and my broadband account joined into one account and 2. to arrange unlimitedBroadband. Neither of these was realy necessary, but it did seem a tidy solution and I had been singing the praises of BT Broadband for years in my job as IT Consultant. I won't bore you with the trauma of it taking 4 months to get BT to charge me for 1 lot of Broadband per month in stead of 2 lots of broadband per month but I do take issue on the reduced quality of the Broadband service I now receive. When I moved to unlimited Broadband I was surprised that my download speed increased but that was a bonus, what I do find difficult to accept is that every time I receive an incoming call the broadband disconnects and then reconnects itself after the router sorts itself out. I also get intermittant disconnections throughout the day for no apparent reason. I have changed the filters, used two different routers finally purchasing a BT Home Hub 4, all 3 giving the same result. Remember when I had a separate broadband and telephone account I had NO connection problems. I have talked to BT, but their guy has made some adjustments, but as I could not really understand what he was telling me I cannot be sure what he has done. Does anyone have a similar problem, or can they give advice. I have now lost all confidence in BT and I feel I have to consider looking for an alternative supplier.
    Many thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I moved your connection to this board which appears more appropriate for your current problem
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
does your broadband drop connection everytime you receive a phone call?  when you make a call as well?  if it does drop then you appear to have a high resistence fault which you need to report to 151
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Introducing Totally Unlimited Broadband from BT

    Hi all
From today we’re making a few changes to our broadband portfolio – find out more about our new packages here
The biggest change is that some of our Broadband and Infinity packages will now include totally unlimited usage. This means that we are relaxing our traffic management policy and removing P2P restrictions meaning users won’t be slowed down at peak. There will still be services with usage limits for customers who want a lower cost service because they are light Internet users.
The above will apply to those who order packages including totally unlimited BT Total Broadband or totally unlimited BT Infinity from 1st Feb, or existing customers who re-contract to a totally unlimited package. We’ll not be moving over existing unlimited BT Total Broadband or Infinity customers to the new totally unlimited packages but you can request it yourself. It takes 5 days to change over and you’d be re-contracting at the same time.
All existing customers will get access to BT Cloud storage, either 2Gb or 50Gb depending on your package, even if you’re an existing Digital Vault customer. We’ll be closing Digital Vault over the summer so we recommend you switch all your files over to BT Cloud as soon as you can. All BT customers can also get BT Smart Talk free of charge. Smart Talk is an app that allows you to make calls from your mobile at landline rates over WiFi saving money on your mobile bills.
    Cheers

  • Intermittent broadband at certain times

    Hi all,
For the past few weeks now my broadband has been intermittently coming on and off and I've realised that its always at a certain time. It seems after 7pm it decides to go awol and starts to cut in and out until about 9-10pm. After that it seems to be fine. I have noticed since this has been happening that the Loss of framing and signal had started to rise...Something that does jump out at me is that the Output power (down) is 0.0dBm, is it meant to be like that?

  • BT Total Faster Broadband

    Hi All,
Just had my line activated for BT Toal Faster Broadband by the engineer. When doing the oringal order online i had a speed estiamte of 11MB-14MB.
Currently only acheving 8MB when doing a speed test.net test.
The engineer also fitted my fibre connection to a secondary telephone socket and not the master socket.
Iam quite technical so nderstand that this is a sub-inifnity product and line distance to exchange makes a difference however why is my speed so slow??
Is is normal to have such a slow speed to start with and then as the line stablises it increases? From my exchange iam 3342m away.
    Thanks.

  • 8mb broadband now won't go above 2mb

This has been ongoing for five weeks now - I used to get regular speeds of well over 6mbps, now I only get 2mbps.  Time of day/night does not make any difference.
I've exchanged emails with customer services and the response has been useless - I question if they've even read what I've been telling them.  I have five PCs, a Mac, iPad and Galaxy S2 that use my network, and the speed issue affects all, so that rules out any hardware/software config problem at my end.  Also replaced the router, filter etc, and tested on a wired connection - no difference.  My phone socket looks like a really old one, with the old "T" BT logo on it with two dots for the top-right part of the T.
I've done a speed test at http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and that tells me the following
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.2 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :8.13 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2 Mbps
I've complained about the quality of customer service which I've received, and now BT are telling me they want to send an engineer out this Friday, BUT if they don't find a fault they're going to charge me £99 for it!!  I've been down that road before, at a previous address and it took THREE engineers before they found the fault AND BT tried charging me nearly £200 for the first two, who just hadn't done their job properly, so I don't have a lot of faith.
I'm >> << that close to telling BT where to shove their broadband and phone line.
I see a lot of people here being told their IP Profile needs resetting and from the above which shows my IP Profile is 2Mb, I'd assume that to be the case here too, but BT say not (spoke to them on the phone not ten minutes ago).
If anybody has any suggestions on this, I'm all ears.  Another week and I'll be off to another provider.
    Dave
[edit] Oh, just to add - my router is straight into the main socket to the house (it's sat about three feet away from the socket), and there's nothing else connected except the BT Homehub 2.0, and my house phone.

This (from the router) might be useful also.  Uptime is short because I was testing with another router, though the stats are fairly typical of what I've always seen there.
