Touble connecting ipod to computer

Ok, i am having a huge problem and the more i try to fix it the more it messes up. I believe the problem lies in that itunes thinks that the ipod has one ipod update, when it fact it has a more outdated update.
It all started when some of the files on my ipod wouldn't play, so i just came home thinking that i would be able to reload them onto the ipod, but when i tried, the computer froze. Immediately i disconnected the ipod, and everything worked fine, and all the songs would even play in itunes.
So i have tried everything, including installing and deinstalling itunes and itunes updater atleast twenty times. I also tried the msconfig command but that doesn't seem to work, and it says i have no itunes helper installed on my computer. But when i go into My Computer, Itunes Helper is there. I have also tried the manage tab in my computer, but there is no itunes helper installed there either. What is going on? Why does my computer freeze everytime i plug my ipod in? How can i even install the new ipod software updates to my ipod to even attempt to make it compatible with itunes?

Try connecting using a firewire if available. Its the only solution that I have found to work.

  • HT201413 Connected iPod to computer to recharge.  Was told that to syn it on this computer it would delete all data on iPod.  Thinking this mean only music I had on it I ok'd.  Since then iTunes cannot find the iPod.  Help!

Connected iPod to computer.  Started to Syn but came up with if syncing this device may delete saved music.  Accidentally pressed OK.
iPod was originally synced on another old computer no longer in use.

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Is there a way to connect ipod to computer to charge but NOT sync

I've recently purchased an ipod nano 4gig. I also have an apple universal dock. We've recently set up a new soundsystem in our business to run off of the ipod dock. The dock doubles as a charging station, which weneed since it will be running all day for 9 hours a day. I have a few problems.
1 - My computer will not start when I have the ipod dock connected (with the ipod in the dock). It turns on... but then stops booting up. Not until I unplug the ipod dock usb connection will the computer then start.
2 - When I then plug the USB cord back in once my computer is up and running, it goes into the "connected" mode, and can not play. not until I "eject" it through itunes. Is there a way to STOP it from going into that "connected" mode. The only reason why I have it connected is to charge it while its playing, thats it. I know I can go through the steps of opening itunes, clicking eject, then starting the ipod to play... but its a business with many staff of varing ages and technical abilities... some people simply wont "get it".
Is there anything I can do other than spend another $30 and instead of connecting the ipod dock to the computer to charge, buy a wall charger for the ipod and connect it to a power outlet instead?

This can happen with some Windows PCs depending on how the start up is configured.

If you had the iPod set to manage the content manually you could play the songs on the iPod through iTunes.
With the manual setting, the songs on the iPod would shown in bold type and be selectable/playable when clicking on the iPod in iTunes. The iPod would also still be receiving a charge.

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?

  • Connecting ipod to computer

I just received a replacement ipod thanks to apple's warrenty. The only problem is when i connect the ipod to my computer (windows), it is not recognized, and the ipod seems to rise in temperature. Any suggestions on what to do?

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

  • Windows - No Disk error message when connecting Ipod to computer

I recently connected my Ipod to the Computer as I have done for the last year and I am now getting an error message reading: "Windows - No Disk". It then asks me to insert a disk. I cannot cancel out, continue or retry which are the three choices. I eventually have to Ctrl + Alt + Del to close out Itunes. Can anyone help? Thank You.

  • Itunes crashed too Blue Screen when I connect Ipod to computer

My Itunes crashes to the Windows blue screen of death whenever I connect my Ipod to Itunes. I have ran tried both the solutions that are posted in the support section of this website, but none of those solutions seemed to work. I have an Ipod Classic and am running the latest version of Itunes (8.02 I think). The error code that comes up in the blue screen is:
    STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80154000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is quite frustrating.

Did you follow through all the links on the page?
You need to give information about exactly what you have tried in order for someone to help you.
I do not have an iPhone and know nothing about them so I can't give detailed help.
In general you tend to get BSOD with low level problems such as drivers or hardware issues. Are you up to date with the downloads from computer manufacturer's download site for your model of computer? If you follow the links there are various suggestions about the sorts of things that could cause trouble.
If you are getting a blue screen stop, it would help if you could post the exact error message. It should be some sort of numbers and text -
    0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    For example:
    Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
Also is a file name mentioned in the error message? If so give the exact file name. This is very important as it may identify the driver causing the trouble.
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Restore prompt when connecting ipod to computer

I'm getting a prompt to restore my ipod after I connect it to my computer. I recently purchased the ipod and downloaded the latest version of itunes (less than 2 weeks), everything worked fine and I was able to download most of my library to itunes and sync it with my ipod. I went to reconnect my ipod after uploading some songs to itunes and rec'd the message. Can anyone tell me why this message would suddenly appear? How do I resolve the issue without actually restoring my ipod? Has anyone had a similar situation that they were able to resolve? Any help is appreciated.

  • Trouble connecting Ipod to computer (USB)

I've had my iPod for about a month and a half, and haven't had any problems using it or connecting to to my PC. Yesterday I tried to connect my iPod to the computer to transfer some music and was greeted with the message "A USB device has malfucntioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port" and the instruction to remove the device. I have tried using other USB devices in the same port--it works fine with a mouse, a printer, and an external hard drive--and moving the USB cable for the iPod to another port. The iPod does not work with any port--USB 1 or 2--even though the ports work fine for other USB devices. I have tried using a different USB cable, as I had a spare--this also did not work. Is the problem with my iPod? How do I get this fixed?

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

  • Connecting iPod to computer & getting "Do Not Disconnect" (not recognized)

I plug my iPod (40 gig, click wheel) into my computer and the screen goes to "Do Not Disconnect" and I can hear the hard drive turning. The problem is that it never pops up in iTunes and have tried to restore and since it keeps churning away on "Do Not Disconnect" it isn't recognizing the iPod.

I have had this problem too and still do to this day - my computer won't recognize that the ipod is attached and basically just freezes up. Last time I loaded music from itunes, I found a very helpful post on this discussion board that told me how to change my USB speed from 2.0 to 1.1. After doing this, my computer recognized the ipod and I was able to load songs (of course it took forever but that is OK). However, I can no longer find the posting. Does anyone out there know how to do this?

  • Connecting ipod to computer causes itunes library to disappear

I manage my music on my ipods manually. I have all my music and videos stored on an external hard drive. When I connect an ipod (we have 3) to add music or video files itunes looses my library (? show up saying itunes cannot locate the file, when looking for the file all 42 GB of my music folders are empty). Connecting an ipod makes the files disappear(in My Computer all the folders are there, but no files show up). If I close itunes, shutdown computer and restart itunes, all the music is there and plays fine in itunes. Problem only occurs when I connect an ipod and try to add files to it. I have tried reinstalling itunes, no change. Since my EHD was under warranty, I exchanged it, no change in this problem, extremely frustrated.

I notice your sig says you have a Sony Vaio. The Sony Media Watcher program is known to cause conflicts of deleting itunes libraries - not your specific problem, I understand, but I wonder if this is some new fun feature that is somehow related?
If you have ever run the Sony media software, it is "watching" the itunes folders. Try telling it not to watch the itunes folder temporarily and see if things work better. Or even uninstall it, considering Sony came out with that fab rootkit ; 0
I don't have a vaio, so can't suggest much more, but there are posts from other vaio owners in this topic
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1800551
Near the bottom are the posts about telling it not to watch folders; the posts on uninstalling come before that.
