Touch and ATT/2Wire DSL Modem connection

Hello,
I thought that I might share some information that will help fellow iPod Touch users that have an ATT DSL account.
I have a 2Wire Gateway wireless router with modem with my DSL account. Initially I tried to connect the iPod to the router using the 10 digit number on the bottom of the modem. Evidently I got an icon that showed I was connected to the router, but something was wrong because I couldn't connect to the server to launch Safari or check Stocks, iTunes, etc...
I talked to Apple Support and they had me check the IP address which was 206. something if my memory serves me right. Anyway after reset the modem and iPod we ran out of ideas to solve the connection issue.
I then called ATT again. The support had me check the IP address and said the 206 was incorrect. I needed to see 192. something, so I deleted the Network "Forget the Network" and tried to set it up again.
After re-entering the 10 digit password for the router I got a 192. something for the IP address. I then launched Safari and was able to get a web page to load. I also set up the email and was able to get that to work too.
To get email for ATT on the Touch to work follow these directions. Go to Settings and touch Mail icon. Touch Add Account. Make sure you select the POP tab and enter your Name, Address (email address including @att.net Description will be the same as the Address
Next window is the Incoming Mail Server. Host name is pop.att.yahoo.com User Name (email), and Password for you email (not the router password.)
Next window is the Outgoing Mail Server. Host name is smtp.att.yahoo.com User Name (email), and Password for your email [email protected]
Next window is Advanced. Incoming Settings. Activate SSL by turning it on. Authentication is Password and Server Port is 995.
Next window is Outgoing Settings. Activate SSL. Authentication is Password and Server Port is 465.
Hope this can help anyone with ATT email issues. Good Luck.

J.D. Stone,
When you are on the Wi-Fi settings page and you see your network, tap on the blue arrow to the right of your network.
What is the IP address? If it starts with 169, you are getting a self-assigned IP address and are not connected to your network correctly.
Try tapping on "Forget this network" and connecting to your network again. It should prompt you for your password. After entering your password, tap on the blue arrow next to your network.
Are you still getting a self-assigned IP address? If not, you should be connected to your network. If so, forget the network again and try turning off your network security and connect. You should be able to connect at this point. If not, contact your 2wire provider to see what other network security is enabled on your router. If you can connect, try enabling your security again and connect. If you still cannot connect, try changing the network security you are using.
Hope this helps,
Jennifer B.

  • My imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an 2wire DSL modem.

Help my brand new imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an "2WIRE" DSL modem.  Windstream tech service is useless.  i can connect with the built in router through Ethernet or wireless, but still no connecting to internet, help!  windstream said everything is working on their end, yea right.  What i do know is that both the mac and ipad work at other places and can connect with wireless connected to the internet, so i know it's not the apple products.
these are brand new machines with lion.
This is my first mac, so I’m still new to how it works, which is not helping either so a detailed help would be great.  Please help before my wife losses it
    thanks

There is a 2701HG-B, and a 2701HG-D.  If not labelled on the modem, ask Windstream which one they presently supply or how to tell the difference.
By the way tell your wife it isn't that bad.  At least you have an ethernet DSL modem.  There were times where DSL modems had RJ-11, USB, and Ethernet, and all three were used to provide access.  At least now only the craziest DSL providers still use those modems.

  • 2wire dsl modem and Iphone

I'm going to approach this in a different manor. I have a 2wire dsl wireless connection at home and unable to connect to it from my iphone. My iphone sees my 2wire but the wireless symbol only holds for a few seconds before reverting back to the "E" connection. Has anyone got into the 2wire home page and worked to either reset or verify passwords to do a reset to both the phone and modem.

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

  • Airport Extreme and AT&T DSL Modem Settings?

I have given up!  Switched from Time Warner CAble Modem Internet connection with my AEBS network after 3 years without problems.  Moved and had to switch and get AT&T DSL High Speed Internet using their Modem (WESTELL REV: S, ADSL2+ ROUTER).  Ever since self-installing this "system", I have been totally unable to use my wireless network to connect to the Internet, as wired and configured like the TWC connection!  THE ONLY WAY TO GET ON THE INTERNET IS:
    1)     TO TURN OFF AIRPORT (FROM MENU AT TOP OF SCREEN).
    2)     CONNECT THE ETHERNET CABLE DIRECTLY INTO THE MACBOOK PRO 17" (MBP) ETHERNET PORT AND THE OTHER END DIRECTLY
TO THE AT&T DSL MODEM (ITS ONLY ETHERNET PORT).
    3)     The Internet then works fine.
I have thoroughly messed-up BOTH my MBP's Network settings and my AEBS' manual settings -- to the point I have no capability to remember the "correct" settings for the MBP Network Settings nor the settings for the AEBS!!!
In looking into the communication settings for the DSL MODEM (using Safari and its IP address -- 192.168.1.254 -- to access and look at them), I recorded them after activating the service online with AT&T and they are these settings:
    Downstream Rate:               3008 Kbps
    Upstream Rate:                    512 Kbps
    Internet IP Address:              75.47.152.126
    Internet Gateway Address:  151.164.186.1
    DNS Servers:                        68.94.156.1 dnsr1.sbcglobal.net
                                                   68.94.157.1 dnsr2.sbcglobal.net
Mode:                                   PPP on the modem (Private IP for LAN device)
    Local Network
    Modem IP Address:              192.168.1.254
    Ethernet Status:                    Connected
Maybe you can tell, but I'm not sure if this modem is using PPPOe or DCHP OR NAT OR BOTH OR WHAT, but the "PPP on the modem (Private IP for LAN device)" suggests it has its PPPOe settings internal with my Member ID so this modem can and does connect to the Internet -- BECAUSE WHEN CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO MY MBP's ETHERNET PORT AND DIRECTLY TO THE MODEM's ETHERNET PORT, THE MBP IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET (but I cannot utilize my AEBS features also like printing and allowing another notebook pc to wirelessly connect thru the AEBS to the Internet like the TWC method did)!
I know this may seem confusing, but I am desparately depending on your help with exactly what settings I need to make inside the AEBS and to make to the MBP's Network settings for both Airport and Ethernet usable!!!
SO, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME BY PROVIDING ME WITH EITHER (OR BOTH) OF THIS INFORMATION:
    1)     COMPLETE SETTINGS FOR EACH AND EVERY FIELD IN THE AEBS MANUAL SETUP AS WELL AS COMPLETE SETTINGS FOR EACH
AND EVERY FIELD IN THE MBP NETWORK SETTINGS FOR THE AIRPORT PORT AND THE ETHERNET PORT.
    2)     SEND ME FULL WEBSITE ADDRESSES AND TOPIC TO GO TO TO FIND OUT ALL OF THESE DATA TO BE ENTERED INTO MY SYSTEM.
I THANK YOU FOR ANY AND ALL HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!!!
    LARRY W. HAMILTON

The AEBS defaults to 10.0.1.x for internal LAN IP addresses. I'm guessing the Callvantage defaults to 192.168.1.x
You'll have to find out how to access the admin webserver on the call Callvantage, set it to a fixed IP the AEBS would see and enable the Default Host option on the AEBS with the IP address you gave the Callvantage.
Default Host is Applespeak for DMZ.

  • Westell DSL modem connects to WRT54GX2 SRX 200 with wire

I follow the instructions found on this site..  The first couple of times the procedure did not work.  On the MODEM ( Westell) needed a manual  reset.  At that time  the network starting working.
A note needs to added to this instruction as stated above.   The title of the instruction  is:
Setting up DSL on a Linksys Router using a wired connection
    Thanks for the good info
    BlackSteel

    Mahalo nui,
Hawaiian Telcom, my internet provider did, a while back, go into the bridge setup for the WRT54G, and yes, you are absolutely correct that it need be hardwired into the DSL modem.
Since going wireless is the goal, I see no extra benefit to the additional WRT54G hardware.
From the Airport Extreme Setup Manual, under "Using the Airport Extreme with a Broadband Internet Service", again, still need to hardwire to the DSL modem.
No mention of the "Wireless Bridge" function so I am unsure, though will try to use the USB port on the Dell to make her wireless. If not there, then maybe the USB Iomega Drive. As the Iomega reads both PC and Mac files which is important, wireless access would be a benefit.
So my thoughts are that as long as the DSL modem wireless network coverage is acceptable, there is no benefit to hardwiring in additional APs with wireless capability.
Maybe though, the additional hardware would diminish the click-clicking. On the other hand, a square waveform is easy to enhance and modulate with analog voice, think!....
    Thanks, aloha

  • Airport Express to Verizon DSL Modem - Connectivity issue

I have Verizon DSL at home. I have an iMac G4 1.2GHZ w/o internal wireless. I'm trying to use the AX to join the DSL Wireless, and use the Ethernet on the AX to provide internet access to the iMac.
    Setup:
Verizon DSL modem w/ build in Wireless G
    MAC address authentication
AX MAC added to the MAC list
AX Sucessfully added to DSL Wireless (I can see it connected at the DSL modem web page
AX Status light is green (confirmed its getting an IP from the DSL Wireless)
iMac plugged into the AX via ethernet (confirmed its getting an IP from the AX)
No internet access on the iMac however.
I did notice in the Airport Utility that sometimes the AX is logging:
Connected to: <insert mac address here>
Disconnected from: <insert mac address here>
    over and over at times....
The AX and the Wireless router are approx 15ft from each other.
I've also powered everything down, fired up DSL Router 1st, then AX, then Computer. Still no dice on internet to the iMac.
Any suggestions? I shouldn't have to add the iMac MAC address to the filtering...but maybe....didn't have time to try that lastnight/thismorning.
    Thanks for any help!

    Welcome to the discussions!
    Couple of thoughts here:
Check AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the icons
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Enable ethernet clients"
You are trying to use the AirPort Express in a configuration known as a ProxySTA.
The modem/router will need to be compatible with this function, so you should check with your ISP to see how this could be enabled on your modem/router.

  • No Internet via Airport Extreme and Speedtouch Ethernet DSL modem

I've recently purchased a McBook pro and wanted to create a wireless network. I have a new Airport Extreme Base Station and have successfully set that up, but with no internet connection!
I can get a perfect connection by hardwiring either of my machines to the DSL Modem directly (via Ethernet cable), but when i connect the Airport Extreme to the DSL Modem via ethernet there is no internet.
After a bit of research i'm wondering if there is a "bridge" issue... though i have no idea what that means or how to resolve it. Can anyone help?
    Details:
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
Speedtouch DSL Modem (Thomson ST510 v6)
G5 Power PC Tower (10.4.11) will connect to the Airport Extreme via ethernet, currently connects to the DSL modem via ethernet.
MacBook Pro (10.6.4) will connect wirelessly. can currently connect to the internet through the DSL modem via ethernet.
Dynamic IP via ISP connection via PPPoa

Hi Steven, I know this question has been answered and is a couple of months old but I think you may be able to help with my set up? I have a Thomson speedtouch 510 v6 modem router provided by Karoo (UK). My other Belkin N modem router has just bust [again] so the Speedtouch is my old faithful backup device. Now, i've never been able to get on ichat with the Belkin as its a mimo n speed and this is apparently not compatible; So i'm now on ethernet with the st510 and have just set up ports for ichat thanks to a thread called http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2719419&#2719419.
What I want to know from you (because I really need a wireless router to get me off this ethernet support system and back on airport) is how you're getting on with the st510 / airport extreme combo now and can you use ichat on it? If so does your connection doctor say full cone in network settings or something else? As I say, I really want to use ichat and have never been able to in 3 years of owning my Macbook Pro. Hope to hear back from you Steven. Regards Steph

  • WRT54G behind a 2wire DSL modem

I just picked up a WRT54G to replace a old Microsoft router I'd been using as a base station for a few years. However when I run the easylink install it doesn't seem to detect the router at all. I have a 2wire gateway DSL modem going to a 8 port switch that my router is connected to (the router is on the far side of the house where I want the wireless), there are a few other PC's plugged into the switch also. I've tried hooking everything in straight to the DSL modem but nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on here? I don't really want to put the DSL modem into bridged mode for a few different reason.

you may be forced to disable the modem's firewall in order for you to get internect access.  i had problems with a 2wire modem.  the solution i found was to disable the firewall on the modem...
