Touch appeared to be wiped of music, problem now resolved in curious way

There's a bit of a story here. I have a 32 gig current model Touch, pretty much fully loaded with music, podcasts, and apps and it has the current BIOS revision. It has 1.3 gig available. My primary computer is a MacBook Pro that was sent off a week ago to have the drive replaced, I made a clone image on an external drive. This is the one used to download and sync my Touch with, hopefully it'll return today.
So I'm currently using a 13" MacBook. I didn't try to sync my Touch to it as it doesn't have the music library that my MBP has. I've downloaded a couple of podcasts via the Touch's iTunes, that's it.
Friday night I was working and wanted to listen to some tunes, so I plugged my Touch in to the MB. It showed my playlists but wouldn't let me play anything, so I unplugged it and went tuneless.
Last night I was going to drive down the mountain to see a movie and wanted to listen to some podcasts. There weren't any.
That's a bit of an overstatement. It had six podcasts that I had downloaded via the Touch's iTunes. Everything else was gone. 1200 songs, 30 videos, all gone. If you press Artists or whatever, you get the message that your library is empty and that you can download music from the iTunes store.
So today I boot my MB from the MBP's image to re-sync and re-load everything back to my Touch. The system boots, I turn off my wireless connection to prevent updates, I start iTunes on the laptop, and after it's fully loaded I plug in my Touch. I expand the Touch in iTunes and all my playlists are there.
So on my Touch I open Music, and I get the "music library is updating" message, a few minutes later everything is there.
I don't know what happened, but at least my library is back without having to re-sync. The one thing that I did not do after my apparent loss of music was to power cycle my Touch, it's possible that would have brought everything back. Another interesting thing is that the available space didn't change between the time the library was apparently wiped and after the library indexing rebuilt itself.
Very curious.

Just wanted to inform people about a weirdness that I experienced.

Sync problem - earlier today I updated both iTunes and my iPod Touch. Since then, I have tried syncing the two. The iPod Touch claims that there is no music on the iPod, however, when I connect it to my computer it says my full library is on there. At present, I am unable to listen to songs on the iPod when not connected to the computer. What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks for any help!

    - Have you reset your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to backup your iPod and then restore you iPod from backup via iTunes.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation keeps deleting my music even after restoring it and I can't sync new songs anymore

Hello, I have an iPod touch 4th generation 8GB that I purchased brand new in January 2013. The device is currently running iOS 6.1.6.
It worked perfectly fine until today, when I tried to sync one single song on it.
While i was syncing it, I noticed that on the iPod screen, the song menu begun scrolling without me touching the display, some song titles became white (as when you're syncing a song) or disappeared leaving blank lines, until the music app crashed.
When I opened it again, it said that there where no songs in my library.
I tried copying my music on the iPod again, but it only copied one song, after that when I tried syncing more songs, iTunes kept saying "preparing synchronization" (or something similar) but nothing happened.
I tried restoring the device, and initializing it as a new iPod (without using any backups) and then I started copying my songs on it again.
But after the 15th song, the problem occurred again.
    What can I do?
Is it possible that it's the case of an hardware failure? My photo library wasn't affected, and except for the music problem, my iPod is running fine, it's not even an old device and no accidents even happened to him (like falling on the ground or something like that).
    Any tips?
Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm having the same problem with my 4th gen iPod touch. After the update my iPod synched and wiped all my music off - apps & podcasts weren't affected. Restored it a couple of times and that didn't work.
I tried copying a couple of albums over and it would do a couple of songs then the rest of the album would look like it had copied instantly. I tried playing the songs and it would play the first couple of songs once, then it came up with ! Beside every song (including the ones I'd just played and said they weren't on my iPod.
I've removed iTunes from my laptop and downloaded the few iTunes bought albums over WiFi to my iPod. The rest of my music is from cds or mixes/podcasts downloaded from soundcloud so I've had to use a different program to copy some of this music to my iPod for the time being until I can see how to sort this out.

My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't play music out loud. Why and what can i do to 'fix' it?

If you mean the headphones work but the speaker does not:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • Creative Zen loading music problem

"Creative Zen loading music problem?I just started using a creative zen (DVP-FL000, 6Gb) player and i'm having?a few issues copying music onto it.
I have loaded the latest firmware (.2.03e) onto it and formatted it so was clean when i started loading my music on.
I'm using winamp on winxp to copy my music to the player, but occasionally i get tracks that wont copy to the player. Winamp just shows 'unspecified error'. If a file fails to copy it will never copy, no matter how many times i try. Somtimes its a random track, sometimes an entire album.
So i also tried copying the tracks that wont copy using windows explorer, it appears to copy but the file never appears on the device. The same is also true when i try it on my Windows7 laptop with explorer, it will appear to be copying but then part way through it will report that the device has stopped responding.
It only seems to happen with windows media files, all my mp3s copy fine. The files that dont copy probably represent about 0% of my music but play fine on all my other players.
sorry for the long post, just really scratching my head with this one!
    anyone have any ideas?

    solved
did a 'clean up' in the recovery menu, no problems transferring tracks since

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • More Manually manage music problems

OK, I have got this to work ONCE.  But now, every time I try to drag from the main pane to the right-hand sidebar it just doesn't work.
I think I'm doing the right things:
              not using Match,
iTunes 11 GUI ( i.e. no LHS sidebar),
              plug in iPad,
click on its pushbutton @ t/r of window,
in Summary verify "Manually manage music and videos" is checked,
              click "On This iPad",
click "Add To..." (below blue Done pushbutton @ t/r of window).
But when I try to drag to the RHS sidebar,  I just do not get the blue outline selectoid around the iPad sidebar.
    Any ideas?

This is maybe getting confusing for others, so with iTunes Match turned off, here's a list of what this is all about.  To see what goes on, don't plug in your iPad yet.
On you Mac, launch iTunes.  You don't want Store or Match.  Maybe you DO want Manually Manage music.
Don't use Ctrl-S or Alt-Cmd-S, use View > Hide Sidebar (if it's visible), to see the new iTunes 11 GUI.
There's a familiar looking Toolbar, under the Player slider:-
At right of Toolbar (under Search Music box), there may be an iTunes Store pushbutton.  Don't touch.
At the left is a multiple-choice control for Music, Books etc.  Leave it on Music.
Now when you plug in the iPad, the Toolbar has a new iPad pushbutton at the right: this is new in iTunes 11.
Click iPad pushbutton and the center of the Toobar changes a little.  Importantly, at the right of the center the Toolbar has "On This iPad"
When you click On This iPad the window changes radically:-
The Toolbar has a blue Done pushbutton at the right.
At the left is the name of your iPad, with an Ejector control.
There may be a left-hand sidebar with PLs (Playlists), and a list of Songs in the main pane;  these show you the iPad, not your Music library.  As in iTunes 10, the Toolbar lets you change what appears in the main pane.
Now, look again at the right of the Toolbar:  below the blue Done pushbutton there's an icon:  stripes with an Add (or cross-head screw!), and the words "Add To..." -- click this.
Again the window has changed:  the main pane maybe shows your LIBRARY Albums (you can change this in the Toolbar), and a new list of iPad PLs appears in a new Right-hand sidebar.
Now you can drag albums, songs etc from your Library to the RHS iPad sidebar.  If, as I found, some will drag and some won't, even though iTunes Match may be switched off, it seems that the items downloaded by Match have been tagged in some way, which prevents them dropping onto the iPad sidebar.
If so, provided you have a pre-Match copy on an old Mac, delete the ones that won't drop (you might need to make a list) then use Add to Library to replace the Matched ones with your own originals.

  • Music files now unreadable on iPod touch. Please help

Hi, I have an iPod touch with a month or two left on the warranty. After 10 months of carefree use, I've got this situation: the iPod says there's no music on it whatsoever.
    * The music still exists on my computer's external drive and is playable via iTunes.
    * The iPod still has photos, contacts, calendar data, everything but music and tv shows intact.
    * When I plug my iPod into the PC's USB slot, it is recognized in iTunes. The same number of gigabytes appears to be filled as yesterday, but now all the former music and video exist as one long orange "Other" section. So it looks like the files are there, but are not recognized.
    * I tried to sync, but iTunes warns me that the iPod is already too full for that (Full of orange "Other" files).
    * I did do one screwy thing recently: After consolidating my library from my computer to my external hard drive, I recently started deleting content from the iTunes folder on my computer. I left songs purchased via iTunes intact on my pc out of paranoia. I only deleted music from ripped CDs that I can easily restore.
    * Perhaps, in the process above, I deleted a file that helps the iPod recognize the music files?
I have no idea what happened. Do you think I should reset everything, destroying my calendar data, etc.? Or should I send the thing back while it's
    still under warranty? Many thanks.

Corrupted, yes. There are different levels of restoration, but I assume
you're talking about the big one, the one that takes it back to its birth
    at the factory?
I definitely want to try that before trying to send the
thing back, but I haven't yet found a way to export my calendar data.
    (I'll copy it by hand).
Thank you for the reply, blackbelt.
