Touch commands and Shortcuts

Attempting to search the Apple site and this discussion board for a possible listing of the Touch commands and shortcuts for the Macbook (example: saw a Mac Genius zoom with touchpad finger gesture)- curious about other possible commands..

Touchpad gestures should be in your User Guide for the computer assuming you have one with a touchpad trackpad. As far as I'm aware that's only available on the MacBook Pro but according to your information you have a MacBook. Only the latest MBP model supports gestures on the trackpad. These models only run Leopard. Were they available for the MB, you would need a current model with Leopard, but you are using Tiger. Configuring your trackpad for scrolling is done using the Keyboard and Mouse preferences.
As for keyboard shortcuts: Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts.

  • Mac mini won't boot up on OSX even after all keyboard commands and shortcuts.

Hi. I installed windows 7 using bootcamp on my mac. Windows installed successfully but I had to reformat its designated partition to NTFS (20GB which I allocated). But now I can't seem to run OSX even after doing Cmd.   R, Option, C, etc. still Windows boot everytime. Anyone know how I can fix this problem before I submit the computer for professional service? Thanks.

Usually means you may have also formatted your OS X partition or RDB with the Windows formatter. You might try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If the above doesn't help any then you are looking at having to reformat your OS X partition.

  • Custom Commands and Keyboard shortcuts

    Hi,
I have recently added a custom command to Vivado 2015.1 to set the current working directory to the top level folder where the project is stored using this TCL:
cd [string trimright [get_property DIRECTORY [get_projects]] proj]
This allows me run TCL scripts using a simple relative path to a folder in the project containing TCL scripts instead of having to type a long absolute path because Vivado insists on using C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/Xilinx/Vivado as it's default working directory (e.g source ./tcl/script.tcl rather than source C:/<long path to folder>/tcl/script.tcl)
I added a keyboard shortcut to this command (in this case Ctrl+Shift+P) to allow to me change the PWD quickly when I need to.
However, every time I open Vivado the keyboard shortcut initially does not work. I press Ctr+Shift+P and nothing happens. In order to get this to work I have to press Alt+T to get the tools menu, then u to get the Customize commands option and then withough clicking anything in this menu, just by opening the menu, the shortcut works.
In short every time I start Vivado afresh, I have to press, Alt+T, u, then Esc, Esc to back out of the menu to get the shortcut to work ( or I can click Tools->Customise Commands and then back out of the menus by using Esc, Esc and it has the same effect).
    Can anyone else confirm this?
It feels like it is not recognizing the shortcut until the Customise commands menu has been opened. Is it not loading the shortcut until this menu opens? The whole idea of the shortcut is to avoid having to open the menu every time.
    Regards
    Simon

  • "Command I" shortcut in Preview - designated for show/hide toolbar AND show inspector?

In the Mac Preview App, I tried using the the 'command I' shortcut to show/ hide the toolbar, but it brings up the inspector instead. Is the shortcut is designated for both these functions?

    Actually the Toolbar hide/show isn't "cmd i" it's "cmd shift |"
That little key on the far right edge between the "delete" and "return" keys. The same key that has "\" as the main function.

  • Macbook pro w/ Mavericks - right command and right option functioning as shortcuts for mission control and show desktop

    Hello,
All of a sudden my right command and right option keys are functioning as shortcuts for mission control and show desktop respectively. I haven't changed anything and can't seem to find any shortcut option in system preferences to change it. Control + up still works for mission control as default, and F11 is still show desktop. Left command and left option are working as normal.
Any suggestions? I have a feeling theres some silly little thing I've missed...
    Thanks.

    Hello benja_d
That is an interesting issue with the keyboard. To help isolate the issue, open up the Keyboard view to see if there are any keys being held down while you are typing to see if that is the issue. You will also will want to try this in another user on your computer to see if it something that is User specific or system wide. Let me know if you have figured out this part and I can help you further.

  • My screen zooms in and cuts off access to other icons/apps and does not respond well to touch commands, My screen zooms in and cuts off access to other icons/apps and does not respond well to touch commands

It started out as an occasional problem but not seems to happen multiple times a week. The screen will zoom in and not respond normally to touch and swipe actions.  I cannot seem to get it back to normal unless I turn my phone off which can prove to be very difficult when the touch functions and swipe functions are compromised. Any ideas?

You have activated the Zoom function in Accessibility. Triple click the home button and you can use 3 fingers to scroll the screen. Go into Settings>General>Accessibility>Triple click Home button, off.
Double tapping with 3 fingers should turn it on or off. Three fingers to scroll around screen. Double tap 3 fingers and drag to change zoom.

  • Command-5 shortcut for 5-star rating photos in iPhoto not working

When I go to 5-star rate a photo in iPhoto using the default Command-5 shortcut, the shortcut no longer works.
The Command-1, Command-2, Command-3, Command-4 shortcuts work for (1-star through to 4-star ratings), but for some reason Command-5 no longer works???
There is nothing wrong with my "5" on my keyboard.
I went to my local Apple Store and spoke to a Genius. He said that there is probably a mistake in the iPhoto code, and that the mistake would only be corrected after someone mentioned to apple the problem.
I would like to find out if there is any way firstly to rectify the problem myself? or alternatively how to get in touch with Apple to let them know there is a problem, so that they can fix it by the next software update.
    Thanks

Ty trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

  • ITunes 10.0.1 no longer has Command-R shortcut to open root file of a song!

I can not believe that iTunes 10.0.1 no longer has the Command-R shortcut to open root file of a song! I use this function constantly as I am a television music supervisor who frequently emails or FTP sends music cues from composers and artists of mine to my tv shows. I use this to function to bring music cues into Toast, to see how I have files titled, etc. If anyone at Apple can log this as a potential fix for a future update, there is important functionality in this for some of us! Thank you.

Yes, much thanks dknightd! I too use it all the time & I thought they just got rid of it; they probably changed it to make room for a new shortcut... odd that they just changed it all the sudden like that, without replacing it with something more often used. I guess we'll just have to wait & see! Anyway, thanks for the post about the new shortcut!

  • Command key shortcuts don't work anymore in Safari since upgrade to Yosemite!

    Hi,
I recently upgraded the MacOSX to Yosemite. Since this moment Safari doesn't work properly anymore, because the command key shortcuts are out of order.
    Cmd + Q
    Cmd + C
    Cmd + V
    Cmd + X
These are now the key shortcuts I've noticed that aren't working anymore. Other apps (a part from Firefox) don't seem to have these problems.
In the meantime I have to use the mouse cursor and choose from the menu bar.
Apple support wasn't able to help me! They just gave me the advice force quit Safari and restart it while pushing the ALT-key. Result: Nothing!
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind regard,

    MacBook Air
    Version 10.10
    1.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

That is rather odd if they are all visible as shortcut commands.
Here are some more tests to do…
    1) Disable all your Safari Extensions & retest (in Safari Preferences).
    2) Logout of the account (from the Apple menu). At the login window enter your password & hold shift as you click the login button. Keep it held until the Desktop has become usable. This disables 'User login items' - retest. Logout after testing.
    3) Try a safe boot… OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Does it still happen in safe mode? This disables third party extensions & some inessential Apple system extensions - things will not be normal, however the Mac should be 'functional', test as much as you can.
Post the results of those here, it may give us a better idea where to look.

  • Help! Pressing Command and Q always launches Safari

    Hi,
Today, out of nowhere, if I try to Quit an application other than Safari using the Command and Q keys on the keyboard, it doesn't work. What it does is launch Safari. I don't know how to get it to stop doing that.
    Does anyone know?
    Thanks in advance.

Well this afternoon, I got in touch with Maxtor, because I wanted to know if there was a program that would prevent my 1TB hard drive from sleeping. The tech sent me a link to download an application that would work on a Mac Pro. Once I ran the application (Maxtor OneTouch Manager) and (SyncMyMac), I realized I couldn't find the setting to prevent the drive from sleeping.
I again called Maxtor, and another tech said there's no such application for the Mac. So much for helping your customers and giving them the proper information.
What I did was remove anything that had to do with installing the app's I mentioned above, so perhaps, something is preventing my keyboard from working properly.
I'll check the start items list and see if there's anything out of the ordinary.
Thank you again for your help.

  • Command - C shortcut not working

Ok when i press command and C over a highlighted phrase it doesnt work, the copy shortcut isnt working but pasting and all of the other things are working fine. HELP!
    Message was edited by: gchhour

I'm having more or less the same problem (was first stricken with it about two weeks ago).
Clicking Copy in Edit menu does the trick, ie copies, but the Command C shortcut, in any application mysteriously and infuriatingly brings up some document in Adobe reader.
In addition, it may by pertinent, this problem first manifest itself when the keyboard shortcut I had assigned under the dictionary app Ultralingua( nothing to do with Command C) also brought up the same uncalled for document in Adobe Reader.
I have tried various things, including repairing permission, but to no avail.
The problem (both of them actually) is driving me nuts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Command - Tab shortcut not working

My command - tab shortcut stops working after a random period of time and I have to restart my MacBook to get it working again. Any idea what could be causing this keyboard shortcut to fail? I tried killing and re-running the Dock but that does not fix it. A refuse to reboot my Mac everytime it happens (this is not Windows...) Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

Actually I just researched this further and found a solution here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1830738&tstart=0
+Open the activity monitor and look for something like the "ScreenSaverEngine" - the process should be marked as "not responding" (written in red)+
+End this process and Command+Tab and other shortcuts will work again!+

Go to www.ecamm.com and d/l PhoneView.
To prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - hold down the 'option' and the 'command' keys when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - key the keys down until the iPod/iPhone is listed under the Devices list in iTunes - this will prevent a sync from taking place.
With PhoneView you can take the content from the device to the iTunes library.

  • My new 5G iPod touch is much slower to respond th touch commands than my old 4Gen. Anyone else have this problem?

The reponse time after a touch command on my new iPod 5th Gen, 64GB is painfully slow, especcially when compared to my iPod touch 4th gen iOS6. Anyone else experiencing this? From Grumpy Troll.

My is quite responsive.  However, I had a corrupted iCloud sync file that were looping using constant CPU and draining batterie life (there another post related to this).  So, it is possible that something went wrong if you had restored the new iPod using previous backup.
First, you should try to quit any open apps by double-clicking home button, tapping and holding on an opened apps and then closing them all.
Second, do a restart by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button.
If this doesn't solve the issue, you may take a look here to get more info:
Settings General -> About -> Diagnostics & Usage -> Diagnostics & Usage Data and look at crash reports.  Is there many recent, recurring crash from specific apps, etc.
If nothing special there, you can try to restore like a new iPod to see if it get more responsive.  If it does, it probably means that you got an issue with your backup.  Retry the restore from your backup to see if it get again less responsive.  That would confirm wether or not you got such issue.
Let us know the outcome of these trials.
PS: since it a new device, you may also get help from Apple service either by phone or at a genius bar.
