Touch deadzone question

hi i have recently had a few deadzones on my touch screen. the #1 recent call/voicemail wont bold instead it would skip to something else. this is also doing it in the notes and online. but i have scrathces and a tiny dent on my bottom left battery case right before it touches the black plastic on the bottom. this is from a few bad (rip off) phone holsters. since its the bottom part and only a portion of my top screen is dead on various programs will apple blame it on the dents or can they give me a new one. i have never dropped it on anything hard i have only dropped it on my cushion of my couch thats it. and how do i save all of my info if i need to reset my phone if its just a glitch.

Every situation such as this can be different regarding if a problem is determined to be due to accidental damage - only an Apple Store or AppleCare can answer this definitively.
Before I started using a case, I dropped my iPhone on concrete a couple of times with no resulting problems. I have some scratches on the back case but no dents and I don't believe a dent cannot be caused by dropping an iPhone on a couch cushion.
Your iTunes content transferred to your iPhone should remain available in iTunes so this content won't be lost when restoring your iPhone. Contact information, calendar events and bookmarks are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With Windows XP, you can sync contact information with Outlook Express. Syncing calendar events with a Windows PC requires Outlook 2003 or 2007. Bookmarks should sync with Internet Explorer, so if you are syncing this data with a supported application, it won't be lost with a reset. iPhone settings, SMS messages, Notes created on the iPhone with the Notes application, recent calls, phone favorites, cities tracked with the weather widget, stocks tracked with the stocks widget, Google Maps bookmarks, world clock settings, alarms and photos captured by the iPhone are included with the iPhone's backup file created and maintained by iTunes during the sync process. If any of the data included with the iPhone's backup file has changed since the last sync, the backup is updated first during the sync process with iTunes.
Sync your iPhone to update the backup file and if there are any available on your iPhone that were captured by the iPhone, you should transfer the photos to your computer for safe keeping. I wouldn't depend on the iPhone's backup file for photos captured by the iPhone.

    hello there,
is there any unknown/not-installed device under the device management window?

  • IPod Touch newbie questions - pt. III

    Last questions:
    1) I downloaded a few apps from the Apps Store and noticed that a few would not load. They kept cycling and cycling and never completed. I then realized that I had to connect to a Wi FI network, which I am lucky enough to have at home: Verizon FIOS.
Could Apple consider marking any Applications for download, free or for sale, that requires a WiFi connection to the web as such? This is very user unfriendly and should be info that we have up front. There may be some people who don't have such WiFi connections at hand depending on where they live and if they download one of the fee based apps and find out they need an internet connection to work it, they will be royally ticked off.
    2) The Progression "scrubber bar" - could this be linked to the playback controls in a future firmware update? On my Classic the info was always viewable and one did not have to enable it. I feel it should show automatically and be disabled as an extra step.
By the way, what do they mean by "scrubber?" Nothing is cleaned or erased in my estimation. This is needlessly confusing. Must be a slang term I'm unfamiliar with.
    3) Lastly, not sure about this but is there a way to download lyrics for songs into iTunes/iPod? If so I guess I've missed this somewhere. If not it would be a great extra to have on the player, particularly, for jogging one's memory or clarifying words to a new song that some singer mangles badly.
** I would just to to reaffirm that I may seem a little picky in my posts here but considering the complexity and variety of functions this machine can handle, the beauty of design and interaction with the user and other factors, Apple has done a great job developing this PDA/music player/etc. I only wanted to clear up some issues and maybe submit possible improvements for the future.
It's been a long time since I've been so impressed by a new piece of technology and I've been around for some time.

    Hi,
    1. I kind see your point and it would not be difficult to implement but generally you can tell how an app works and what it will require from the description. I do know some Apps have virtually no description with them which is unforgivable but then I probably wouild not spend money on them in the first place.
    2. "Scrub Bar" industry standard term for that particular item, just because it does not erase as in your sense of the word "scrub" does not mean it is wrong. To any Video/Audio tape editors it makes perfect sense.
I don't think having to touch the screen to summon it is that big a deal.
    3. To view lyrics on the Touch they need to be added to the track in iTunes.
Right click > get info > lyrics, then cut and paste into the box.
I fear you may well become irritated once more as to see them you will have to summon the "scrub bar" while the track is playing...
    Regards,
    Dud.

  • Ipod touch internet question???

    i have two questions:
    1. can you view videos online on a ipod touch that are on websites using safari (excluding youtube)like movie6.net, ign.com, tv-links.co.uk or google video.
    2. as well does it cost to use the internet on a ipod touch my friends say that you do have to pay to use it.

In no way are there fees linked to Apple or AT&T for internet use on the iPod Touch. As Trey said, you may have to pay to use a public access point, but this is very rare and costs little, when it costs any at all.

  • Scrollview with Tableview, Tableviewcell touch feedback question

I am trying to make a scrollview with some tableview in it so that I can slide new tableview with drag&slide. Does anyone know if this is all possible? I tried to implement this but scrollview blocks all the event and doesn't let the table view to scroll up&down.
My second questions is if it is possible to highlight the some portion of tableviewcell when touched? The whole cell is highlighted to blue but I would like only some part of the cell to be highlighted to blue. Would it be possible?
    Thanks.

Never assume they will fix it immediately. You have no way of being certain that they will even be able to fix it at all without sending it off to a service centre.

  • U330 Touch - SSD Question

Hi, I recently bought a U330 Touch i7. I hadn't realized that it shipped with a HDD/SSD combination drive. When I booted it up I found the main OS installed on the HDD along with a load of other applications, then on the SSD drive was only  McAfee and a load of drivers. The HDD is 500GB (or near enough) and the SSD 25GB. The unit is ST500LM000-1EJ162. THe SSD appears as a separate driver in file explorer but seems to be a partition of the main HDD in disk utility.
I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find answers to by looking around on the site:
    1. Should I just install the applications I am most likely to use straight onto the SSD - so MS Office, Chrome, Unity and a couple of steam games - assuming the benefit on having them on the SSD is going to be worth it.
    2. I was told by someone it might be a hybrid drive and the migration of software from the HDD to SSD would be handled by some software. Is it a hybrid drive?
    3. Can I actually reinstall the OS directly on the SSD and would the benefit be worth the hassle of the reinstall?
    4. If I do re-install can I get the installation files for the OS and associated software that shipped with the machine from Lenovo direct?
Sorry for so many questions, but its my first SSD and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there.
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!

You don't want to use the WD as the recovery drive, you want to use a flash drive.  Recovery and the factory load should fit on a 16 Gb flash drive. This will be used to refresh or repair the OS if you ever have the problem of not being able to boot.
The WD should be used to backup your current configuration since it will be so large.  As you do Windows updates and install more programs and save more files, this backup should be replaced on the WD on a regular basis.
The recovery flash drive will only be used to boot and install the original OS that your machine came with, or to repair or refresh the OS. Then you will use the backup from the WD to put the current OS back on.
Once you make the flash drive, I would test it to make sure it boots and goes into the recovery environment.
Again, the WD will only be used for backing up your current configuration and should be updated regularly.
I've never tried to use an external hard drive as a recovery drive, it might or might not work.  The instructions are pretty specific so I doubt that it will
You're welcome to try it though.

  • IPod Touch 2G Questions

I just bought an iPod Touch 2G. It's used, but works great. I have the latest version of iTunes. Here are several questions that I'm having trouble finding the answers to:
1- When you drag your finger UP the screen, it scrolls DOWN (as if the iPod was a book or piece of paper). I prefer thinking of it as a "digital viewer", & would like to be able to drag my finger DOWN the screen to scroll DOWN (like using a mouse-cursor on a scroll-bar). Is there any Setting or Application to do this?
2- The Main Menu has 4 Icons at the bottom for "Music", "Videos", "Safari", & "App Store". Above that are 14 Icons for the Apps & Programs that the iPod came with: "Mail", "Calendar", "Photos", "Contacts", "YouTube", "Stocks", "Maps", "Weather", "Voice Memos", "Notes", "Clock", "Calculator", "Settings", & "iTunes". Is there any way to remove any of these Apps, or at least remove their Icons from the Main Menu? Some of them like "Stocks" & "Voice Memos" I have no use for, & I'd rather not have them clogging up the Main Menu.
3- Does the iPod Touch 2G support a Folder System (either initially, or through an App)? If so, how do I create & edit it?

    2) No you cannot remove the apps that come on the ipod. You can move them to another home page.

    3) No. You can look for Apps in the app store that will store data via wi-fi.

  • IPod Touch 5G question

Ok, this doesn't happen with my iPod Touch 4G, but it does with my 5G. Every time I connect it to my laptop to charge, it asks 'Trust This Computer?'. Every time. If it did it once, it wouldn't really bother me, but it does it repeatedly. It will ask me at 2-4 times - sometimes more - every time I plug it in. My laptop is the only computer I connect it to, so why does it repeatedly ask that question?

Perhaps you need to try rebooting it:
    Rebooting your iDevice
Hold down the Sleep (On-Off) and Home buttons together for about 10-15 seconds or until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears - then let go of the buttons. The iPad should begin to start up.
If this doesn't help then try restoring it:

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • 1-touch dialing question

The User's Guide is wose than useless, so here is my question.
I have my contacts all set up, but the 1-touch dialing seems to be #2-#9 and rendomly assigned to different contacts. How do I delete and/or edit the various assign numbers. When I go in to edit them it sometimes gives a choice to delete, but that doesn't do anything and I can't seem to actually edit any number or assignment.

Providing details of your Phone model will be more helpful...
This is what I get on my Nokia 5800xm..
Menu-->Settings-->Calling-->speed Dialling... Now 1 to 9 are displayed where 1 is reserved..
If any number is already assigned then it shows the Contact Names.. Highlight --> Options...and it gives options to Call/Change/Remove/View Number/Create Message/Help/Exit...
If not assigned ..then Highlight-->Options...and it gives options to Assign/Help/Exit...

  • Touch storage question

This is a novice question, but as I await the arrival of my first ipod I have wondered if files can be moved back and forth from the iPod touch to my computer when storage space is needed? Like when I am finished with X number of movies, can they be moved back to my computer to make room for more?

well the touch does not have the disk mode so you can't be transfering stuff back and forth. However, if you have songs and movies in your ipod but it also in itunes you can delete stuff on ipod through itunes, but it will not affect the itunes library.

  • Nano screen/touch wheel question

I'm about to go out and hunt for a Nano but I have a last couple of questions.
I just read a post about someoen who just ran a finger over the nano screen and it scratched up. I am really worried about buying a nano now. So does it always scratch up like this? I'm going to use it for working out so I'm sure i'll accidentally touch the screen eventually. If it does scratch, are the scratches bad enough that you can't actually read the screen? I don't care what it looks like, as long as it works because more then likely i'll be buying a skin for my nano later on.
Two, I want to get that Agent 18 case but it doesn't cover the click wheel. Can the click wheel get damaged enoguh to stop working? If it does stop working because of use will that be covered by hte Apple warranty?
    Thanks.

    michael
it is beyond belief to think someone ran their finger over the lcd and scratched it - there are a lot of far fetched claims and I use that term loosely about it...
    1) purchase a nano
    2) purchase a case or clear film protector for it at the same time
even if it does get scratched, it still plays music
the nano also arrived with a film protector on it - you can leave that on until you get your case, but it is only a temporary solution
I dont know about the Agent18 case so I cant comment on that. I purchased one of these and it works great for me

  • IPod Nano/Touch Cable Question

    Little curious question here...
Is there much of a difference between the iPod USB cable that came with a 2nd Gen iPod Nano -- or on second thought I think this cable may have came with the 5th Gen iPod with Vid. Capabilities that I lost -- and the USB cable that comes with iPod Touch 16GB 2008 edition besides that the latter doesn't have the locking clips that need to be squeezed before disconnect?
Both are attached to a QS2002 PM G4 DP 1GHz 768mb Ram built in USB 1.1 ports connected to a very old (1999 old) USB hub though the touch cable is connected to a A-A USB extension cable then to the hub.
The reason for my question is just a few moments ago my brother handed me his iPod touch to be charged, I connected to the older iPod Cable and received no response from the iPod and the computer didn't acknowledge its connection. Thinking the cable I plugged the Nano in to the same port and no prob, Nano beeps iTunes pops up after a few secs with the standard warning "Connected to slower USB port, iPod runs slow etc..."
I plug the Touch wire into the extension which is running from the hub attached to the back of the computer on top of cabinet (I was being lazy) and the iPod responds loads into iTunes as it should.
So to rephrase my question is there a difference in the ipod cables bundled with the iPod Touches that the touches will only work when connected to that cable instead of an older cable?

is there a difference in the ipod cables bundled with the iPod Touches that the touches will only work when connected to that cable instead of an older cable?
Not that I'm aware of (other than the push-button release that you mentioned). I have charged and synced my IPT via the cable that came with it and with cables from a Nano (1st gen). I have also charged my IPT with a FireWire cable (with and without the dock) from an old 3rd gen iPod (newer iPods won't sync via FW, but will charge), and I use a Griffin PowerJolt (which pre-dates the IPT) in the car.
Of course, that doesn't address what's happening in your case.

  • IPod touch wifi question + iTunes wireless store question

I have a wireless b/g connection at my house. I have 64 bit WEP encryption on my router. If I get an iPod touch, will it allow me to type in the code so I can connect to the internet?
Next, if I activate an iTunes gift card on my pc, will I be able to use those song credits on an iPod touch with my iTunes account? Also, can you activate gift cards and access your account settings in the iTunes music store on the touch?

Yes the ipod touch can handle wep, wpa and wpa2 encryption.
As long as you redeem your gift card on your pc so it is in your itunes store account, the ipod touch will use your gift first befor charging your credit card.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod Touch Restore Question

To those who have had to restore their ipod touch:
I am currently in restore mode in itunes and I have the Status bar labeled "Restoring iPod from backup" on the screen after I chose to restore from my last sync.
Anyhow, the status bar was trucking right along until it got to about 98% finished and now the status bar has parked, just stopped with about 2% left to go.
Is this normal? It has been this way for about 45 minutes.
By the way, I had to restore because it crashed while downloading an app from mobile itunes.

That is not normal. Can you restore without using the backup? The backup only saves settings such as email accounts and brightness etc.
