Touch ID doesn't recognize my finger print

My iPhone is 2 days old. The first day it worked fine, but after the second day, the touch ID wouldn't work even when I wiped it off, rubbed my hands dry, or even reset the finger print. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it?

Hi jmosko15,
If you are having issues with the TouchID function on your new iPhone, you may want to make sure that you have installed the most recent iOS update, just released today:
iOS 8.0.2

  • Hi, my name's Michael and I had a question about my iPod touch. I recently dropped it but I still have a warranty and Apple Support said they couldn't fix that my screen doesn't recognize my finger is on there trying to do anything?

Hi, my iPod touch was recently dropped but afterwards I called Apple Support and they told me I have a 17 day warranty for my Apple iPod Touch, so then I asked them if I could send it in to get fixed but what had happened to my iPod was that when I click the home button and try to ''Slide to Unlock" it doesn't recognize that I'm trying to do anything else the only thing that I can do is press the "Sleep" and "Home" Buttons and nothing else. Anything you can do to help me please??

Even if you were still under AppleCare warranty, it would not cover damage from a fall.
That "17 day" warranty makes no sense, though. iPods have a 1-year free AppleCare warranty for service, and 90 days for free phone support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/ipod.html
Apple can repair just about anything that might be wrong with your iPod, but it will cost you. Call, explain the problem, ask for a repair appointment at your nearest Apple Store (or get a case number and ask for instructions to mail it in for a repair), but get a firm quote on the repair cost before authorizing the repair (or mailing it in for repair).

  • Touch screen doesn't recognize my touch?

My iphone started acting funny the other day. It would only recognize my touch occasionally and was very quick and jerky. Now I cannot unlock my phone at all, nor can I turn it off. The touch screen does not recognize my touch at all. The phone will ring and I can receive texts, but I cannot answer or access my telephone at all. I am very frustrated because I have only had the phone for a couple weeks longer than the warranty and the Apple Store wants to charge me $199.00 to have it fixed. It seems a little bit too convenient that right at the end of the warranty the phone stops working. Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this without having to buy a brand new phone? Any help would be appreciated. I love my iPhone, but I am a little disenchanted with it presently. Please help me. Thank you.

I'm having a similar problem, started yesterday with my 2G iphone
The touch screen doesn't work in a very specific line horizontally across the screen that only comes into play in certain screens:
-Calculator, the C, +/-, div, X buttons no longer respond.
-In contacts, any contact or phone number that happens to fall in that exact place does not respond (very difficult for calling people)
-In the app store I can't log in or cancel out because the 'ok' and 'cancel' buttons are in the dead zone.
-When scrolling once my finger hits that spot it stops.
-In notes I can't click on the third note down. (I'll never know what I wanted to remember on Fed 5th)
    ...on & on & on...
It is only an issue when the click-able icon is in this 'exact' spot, a little up & a little down & I'm fine.
on another note: Interesting how some one received a free replacement when music couldn't be purchased from itunes (above post), and someone else was told to buy a new phone when they couldn't power down... not fair.

  • Firefox does not recognize my finger print reader for passwords

My lap top has a finger print reader into which I code all my passwords. When I use Explorer my finger print reader works fine, but when I use Firefox as my browser the finger print reader does not work

I looked for software and found a suggestion which I down loaded. Now the finger print reader does not work either on Internet Explorer or on Firefox. So I had to do a reset to an early time to get rid of that soft ware. We are back to where I started, with the finger print reader working fine on Explorer 11 and it does not work at all on FireFox. There must be some work around, has this not occurred with other folks.

  • Doesn't Recognize my Network Printer

My new MBP will not recognize my network printer. I loaded the drivers by pluging the USB directly into the computer, no problem. But when I changed the location of the printer by specifying the IP address it still could not see the printer. I've tried installing an IP printer, but the drivers for my HP PSC 1610 do not appear. I've tried most of the other drivers but to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone solved this problem? Thanks

I am having the same problem with my Intel MacBook and AEBS. My Canon MX700 is attached as a network printer via ethernet to an AEBS. It always prints from the iMac (connected directly to AEBS). It only prints from the Macbook (wireless to network) when the iMac is active (i.e., not off and not on stand-by). I have had to start and restart all the hardware a few times to figure out that I can keep the printer in the Macbook preferences, but it will only print when the iMac is on. It does not show an error message -- the print dialog just states that it is looking for the MX700, it lists the MAC address, and then adds "@ iMac" which I assume has something to do with Bonjour. It will hang there until you click on the iMac mouse to bring it out of sleep. I tried to connect the printer as a USB AEBS shared printer (this printer has both connections) and it installed on both the iMac and Macbook, but would not print from the Macbook (received an error that I do not remember). Any thoughts or recommendations?

    Hello there, Prashanthds96.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting issues with an iPhone not turning on:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Mini doesn't recognize old Epson Printer

I am trying to connect a 1997 variety Epson 1520 printer to my Mini in order to print ledger size spreadsheets. I have intermittently used this printer with a Keyspan twin serial adapter on my ibook running OS 9 .
My mini is running OS 10.4.3. I downloaded the Keyspan (USA28X) software for OS X and gutenprint 5.0.0. I hooked up the keyspan adapter and the printer through one of the main usb ports. The computer sees the two keyspan ports. I go to add a printer and choose advanced but the printer does not show up.
If I click on USB printer, then I manally write it the Printer name and put in the keyspan's address (I think). Then I choose the software for the 1520 from the gutenprint list. The printer name shows up in print set up. I go to test print and get the message Printer not responding .
I am not certain I am writing the correct device url in the space. What is the correct way to write a printer url?
Are is it just two old for the keyspan and gutenprint to work. This one of the originals.

The Epson 1520 has a serial
bit rate of 1.8 Mbs I was going to try seeing if it
    would work at 7600
I can guarantee you that this won't work. The specs actually state a rate up to 1.8 Mbs and a flow control of XON/XOff. With the help of others, we have experimented with various Epson serial printers. We have tried baud rates from 57,600 to 230,400 in combination with flow control of XON/OFF and RTS/CTS. I have even tried the above combinations using two stop bits instead of the standard one stop bit. Epson serial printer just don't want to work via the serial port. It is not clear (and probably beyond my knowledge) whether the failure is due to Epson basing their printers on the RS-423 serial port standard as opposed to the standard Mac RS-422 serial port or whether it is their use of serial DMA or some other factor.
    the password problem on the
CUPS page stymied me. The password enabling patch
wouldn't work under 10.4 because it can't be loaded.
That is correct. I limited the patch to OS 10.3.x on purpose. There is no need for it in OS 10.2.x or in OS 10.4.x. The short username and password for an administrative user will work in both Jaguar and Tiger.
I just hate to have to go out and buy cables and a
new adapter for this old printer.
I understand your frustration. On the positive side, Epson started supporting parallel to USB adapters shortly after Apple dropped the serial port in favor of USB. These adapters also work in OS 9.x with the Epson drivers.

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.4) Doesn't See Time Capsule Printer But 10.5.8 Does

Snow Leopard (10.6.4) doesn't recognize the Lexmark printer connected to my Time Capsule v 7.4.2. However, the printer is nicely recognized on Leopard (10.5.8) on my PowerBook as well as on the two Windows computers in my Home. In fact, with printer sharing activated on my PowerBook, the printer appears in the Add Printer dialog of my Mac Mini as a shared printer from the PowerBook, but not directly from the Time Capsule.
I have tried rebooting, upgrading to the latest software upgrades to no avail.
    Any ideas ?

After all, the printer wasn't "Bonjour visible" in the list of available printers on 10.5.8 either, but it still worked after the earlier setup. Restarting the Time Capsule fixed the problem.

  • What is the temperature limit of the finger to work on iPhone touchscreen? I'm asking this, because I've noticed that when my finger gets too warm (about 104oF) the screen of my iPhone 5 doesn't recognize its touch. Thank you.

What is the temperature limit of the finger to work on iPhone touchscreen? I'm asking this, because I've noticed that when my finger gets too warm (about 104oF) the screen of my iPhone 5 doesn't recognize its touch. Thank you.

I understood. Emphasizing that this is still a guess, when you touch the screen it compares your fingerprint at that time to the one you originally recorded. The fact that the finger is warmer may have a small effect on the fingerprint making it appear different than the original colder one. Temperature differences cause things to expand and contract and that may be having an effect on the comparison. You could try recording a fingerprint after doing what you are doing and then see if it will be recognized when you do the same thing to log into the phone. I know that prior to iOS 7.1 for a few minutes after I would wash my hands the phone had difficulty recognizing the fingerprint. Don't know if it was temperature or moisture that caused the temporary change induced by the hand washing. That improved with version 7.1 I think.

  • Display of iPod Touch 5 is not Finger print resistant

    Hi all,
I am already in love with my iPod Touch 5. I read in the specs that it has oleophobic coating by which the finger prints on the screen could be avoided.
But I still could see the finger prints.
Did I understand the spec right? Kindly help!!!!!

Actually it says that the display is "Fingerprint-resistant", which doesn't mean that there won't be any fingerprints at all, just fewer than with other displays.
It's like when a watch is "water-resistant", not "waterproof".  Only the second means that no water will get in.

I just updated to 7.1 on my 5S and now my finger print doesn't work.  Anyone else have this problem?

    Hey Carol5005,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Touch ID. The following article provides some troubleshooting steps that may be helpful:
    iPhone 5s: Using Touch ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5883
    Resolving issues with Touch ID
    1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iOS.
    2. Ensure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
Note: Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
    3. If you are using a protective case or screen protector, it must leave the Home button and the surrounding ring completely unobscured. If it doesn't, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
    4. Tap Settings >  Touch ID & Passcode and verify that:
              - iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is enabled.
              - One or more fingerprints have been enrolled.
    5. If one finger isn't working, tap Edit in Settings > Touch ID & Passcode to delete and then reenroll the finger.
    6. If that finger still isn't working, try enrolling a different finger.
    7. If you are unable to enroll any of your fingers, take your iPhone 5s to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for further assistance.
    * Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin may affect fingerprint recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Touch id doesn't work with one particular finger

Touch ID will recognize my right thumb when initially set up, and then recognition deteriorates .  I have set up other fingers and they continue to work fine, its only the right thumb.  I have even reset device, and it will work like a charm for a few days and then same problem.  Sound like an odd problem, but I have reset phone and finger print enough times to see that the problem actually exist. Common sense would say use other fingers, but my right thumb is the dominate finger and most convienant to use.  Any ideas?

Have you tried cleaning your thumb to remove oils and dirt that will cause recognition to deteriorate? Also clean the Home button thoroughly.
You also need to go through the entire touch setup that should capture you entire finger print instead of only catching a partial record.
