Touch newbie

I just got a touch and installed it on my pc. I had to upgrade itunes and when I did it wiped out my library that I had for my nano. Now I cannot move any of the stuff from my nano to the library. How do I go about transferring the music. I am worried that if I sync the nano it will wipe out the stuff on the touch.

1. are you sure it is wiped out? And you have no backups!?
2. You can copy the contents of your nano to your PC using, among other things, igadget (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/software/windows/) and Music Rescue (http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/musicrescue/)

IPod Touch newbie questions - pt. III

Last questions:
1) I downloaded a few apps from the Apps Store and noticed that a few would not load. They kept cycling and cycling and never completed. I then realized that I had to connect to a Wi FI network, which I am lucky enough to have at home: Verizon FIOS.
Could Apple consider marking any Applications for download, free or for sale, that requires a WiFi connection to the web as such? This is very user unfriendly and should be info that we have up front. There may be some people who don't have such WiFi connections at hand depending on where they live and if they download one of the fee based apps and find out they need an internet connection to work it, they will be royally ticked off.
2) The Progression "scrubber bar" - could this be linked to the playback controls in a future firmware update? On my Classic the info was always viewable and one did not have to enable it. I feel it should show automatically and be disabled as an extra step.
By the way, what do they mean by "scrubber?" Nothing is cleaned or erased in my estimation. This is needlessly confusing. Must be a slang term I'm unfamiliar with.
3) Lastly, not sure about this but is there a way to download lyrics for songs into iTunes/iPod? If so I guess I've missed this somewhere. If not it would be a great extra to have on the player, particularly, for jogging one's memory or clarifying words to a new song that some singer mangles badly.
** I would just to to reaffirm that I may seem a little picky in my posts here but considering the complexity and variety of functions this machine can handle, the beauty of design and interaction with the user and other factors, Apple has done a great job developing this PDA/music player/etc. I only wanted to clear up some issues and maybe submit possible improvements for the future.

1. I kind see your point and it would not be difficult to implement but generally you can tell how an app works and what it will require from the description. I do know some Apps have virtually no description with them which is unforgivable but then I probably wouild not spend money on them in the first place.
2. "Scrub Bar" industry standard term for that particular item, just because it does not erase as in your sense of the word "scrub" does not mean it is wrong. To any Video/Audio tape editors it makes perfect sense.
I don't think having to touch the screen to summon it is that big a deal.
3. To view lyrics on the Touch they need to be added to the track in iTunes.
Right click > get info > lyrics, then cut and paste into the box.
I fear you may well become irritated once more as to see them you will have to summon the "scrub bar" while the track is playing...

IPod Touch Newbie: What is the purpose of the iTunes app on my iPod Touch?

What is the purpose of the iTunes app on my iPod Touch?
All it does is connect to the iTunes store if I'm near a WiFi connection. It appears to be useful only for impulse purchasing of media. So why is it not named "iTunes Store"? It appears to have no other function.
Also, to listen to my iTunes music on iPod Touch I have to click on the Music button...not the iTunes app. What logic is that?
Also, iTunes has synced a movie for me, but I have no clue how to view it on the iPod Touch. It doesn't appear in iTunes on the iPod Touch, and there is no "Movie" button anywhere. What am I missing? I can't find it anywhere.

Although I would never use the word "impossible," there is currently no known malware capable of infecting an iPod Touch, unless it has been jailbroken (ie, hacked to allow apps downloaded from somewhere other than the App Store). There are some anti-virus apps on the App Store, but don't waste your money on any of them... there's nothing for them to find, and they can only scan things external to your iPod anyway, such as e-mail or Dropbox.
Also, note that I would caution you not to believe that all App Store apps are 100% safe, as Jackslayer has implied. Certainly they have been vetted by Apple, and no real malware has ever made it into the App Store. And all apps are sandboxed, limiting what a malicious app could do even if it did make it into the App Store. Still, exercise caution and common sense... if an app requests access to data that you don't think it should, or that you don't want to trust it with, deny the request.

I received an iPod Touch for Christmas and I am just wondering if the purchased songs from my old iPod (the one with video) will just transfer right over to my new one when I plug it into iTunes, or if I will need somekind of software to do it. Also, how do I get my mp3's transfered from my Blackberry to my new iPod Touch?

If the music on your old iPod is in the iTunes library they if you select those song they should sync to your newer iPod. The newer iPod has to be signed into the same iTunes account as the songs in order to sync to the newer iPod.

IPod touch newbie

Ok. I just bought an iPod touch, 8g, 1st Gen. Got it off a friend. It's in good shape, factory settings restored EXCEPT that when I try to download an app, it gives me a little box with HIS email addy on it, and asks for a password. He has no idea what the password is. . .hasn't used it in a while.
Here's my question. I opened an account at itunes like he said, but I still can't get the ipod touch to change HIS into to MINE so I can put my own password in.
Ideas? Please, somebody help!!

I am an iPod Touch newbie. Should I have apps for secure surfing and keeping my Touch secure? Just curious to know if someone can "hack" into my Touch when I'm using public wifi at coffee shops/restaurants/libraries.

There have been no reliable reports of anyone hacking an iPod via a wireless access point. In other words, your chances of someone doing this is just about nil.
If you are web browsing and want to exchange personal information or purchase something, just make sure that the web address is https. This is the same precaution you should take when using a wireless connected computer.

Newbie needs help...artwork doesnt show up on ipod touch

hey guys newbie here
i sync'd some songs to my ipod without artwork as i wasnt signed up to itunes, i have now signed up and got all the artwork on itunes ( some i had to add manualy from google etc)
anyway when i sync the ipod my artwork doesnt all appear on the ipod , 80% of it does but i cant seem to make the others show up, can anyone explain in newbie terms whats up ?
also id like to remove some pictures that ive added to the ipod...again can anyone explain how to do this

No, that should be fine and shouldn't affect its display on the Touch. So let me understand this:
when you're in iTunes and looking at your music library using cover flow viewing you can flip through the albums and they all have cover art (none of them are that dark gray box with a music note on them)? But when you do the same on your Touch some of the albums have lost their art and are replaced by the note box?
If that's the case, try going back to iTunes, selecting the ones that are missing, delete the cover art and repaste a new art into it, then sync. See if that fixes the problem.

Newbie on Touch... Question of File structure and file

Hi,
I am usually a windows / windows mobile user, but have got a "touch 4" for musical reasons. The apps are simply much better. However I am struggling to copy my Midi files across.
In windows you can simply copy the ".mid" across to a folder and then any application can pick this up. However it seems to me that this is not possible on the Iphone or Touch or as I should say, IOS4. It seems that these files should be transferred via Itunes, or specific apps will provide their own import and export routines. I know there are File transfer utilities such as "Files", but as far as I understand files are transferred to the "Files" vault for its use only and these files cannot be accessed by other apps.
One idea I have had is to use itunes to transfer the ".mid" file and then use Midi Play software that talks to iTunes. However I may be way off here!
The recommended approach may be to just use each app's functionality in isolation from other apps.
All comments on the above would be greatly appreciated.

If you load iTunes on to your computer it can convert midi files to mp3 files which can then be transferred to an iPod also by using iTunes.

Newbie converting from a Palm to iPod touch - calendar, contacts, etc.

I'm a brand new iPod Touch (and Apple) user, and have the iPT 4G. I've a Palm Tx I'd like to convert data from, AND continue using the Palm Desktop unless there is something similar that will let me sync and see (on a PC) my To Dos, Memos, Calendar, and Contacts. I have searched and seen lots of postings on the Apple Discussions and the web in general about this...but they are all old and not specific to the 4G, and I'm not sure what might have changed.
Suggestions? I think I will need Outlook (no problem), but not sure what else? And can't figure out what Mobile Me is, and if I need that too?
And what app will replace my Memos???? I've hundreds of them, and they are one of the most important and used data sets for me.

I am considering purchasing the new touch, but am slightly different in that I've been using the original iphone for years. After much deliberation and evaluating how much use I really have on the device, in addition to shopping around for OTHER phones/devices, I realized that the games, music, camera, maps, contacts, calendar and apps are really the ones I use most. Now, I am a big texter, emailer, and live online, but realized that I hardly ever "MUST have" the 3G capability. And, when I do, I become so frustrated with the internet speed that I end up turning it off and waiting until I can hit a wi-fi. So being completely honest, it's more about the entertainment--and it's not so bad being "unavailable" a little more in my life today.
So similar question, but perhaps some more details please.....
I can tell you from the experience on my phone, you really need to have Outlook OR Windows mail in order for it to work well. You can sync with a variety of other programs, but other that Outlook or Windows you are going to have to employ some third party stuff or learn to go through multiple steps to sync. And, from my experience, it's still kind of "buggy" with itunes as is. Perhaps I'm just picky, but I can't seem to like all of the functions offered in one place...(i.e. calendar, contacts, mail) as I really like Thunderbird for mail and contacts, but really like Outlook's new 2010 calendar and multiple sharing options. I can't seem to get satisfied all in one place?
Apple would have you purchase +Mobile Me+. Tried it too--it works great, but it costs $99 minimum per year. Not bad if you will be using it a lot and at multiple locations (cuz that's the real purpose--to sync with work, phone, home, etc.), but I was not, so I dropped it.
I'm an old Old school outlook user, but trying to get unhooked from the office programs so I checked out Windows Mail (which comes with my windows 7 stuff), and with Windows 7 and Itunes 10 it works great! Outlook 2010 and the other office programs this year (I thought) were a bit too "overkill" for what I need anymore (now that I'm "right-sized") so after looking at basic options, I would say Windows Live (mail) or Outlook to be the best. Also, Windows Mail just launched their beta platform for hotmail and provides you with the basic same features that Apple does, but instead of $99 for Mobile Me, Live is free...it syncs with your away computers and home stuff and all of the 2010 office programs if you still find you want that.
Hope that help you albiea...perhaps someone else can provide a review of the down side to touch when moving from the 3G. Advice?

Newbie to the iPod Touch (Follow-Up Problems on First Sync) - HELP!!

Ok. So far, I haven't been able to get the darn thing to be detected on my PC. The same PC that my Classic 160 already works fine on.
I'm getting this message:
An iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again.
Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated.

How do I get my new iPod Touch 64 Gb to play music through my stereo system

As a newbie owner of an iPod Touch 64GB I am trying to figure out how to get music on my Touch to play through my home stereo system. Is there a way to use the output from the Touch via the earphone plug to input to a stereo pre-amplifier to play my music.

Newbie help me obi wans: ...coded locked by template or translator

Hi Folks,
I'm such a newbie to DW I've been using it for a few years actually, but in a very basic sense.
I dloaded a template, added some graphics, made some buttons etc.. and of course text, but when it comes to coding,
I've only figure out how to add spaces lol
I'm trying to add a flash video to my samples page. I can add images, but every time I add the .flv, I receive the subject message.
So here are 2 issues:
1. I don't know if this related to #2, but I can't erase the 3rd column...or even use it. it's locked - I see a circle with a line through it. The template I bought did say it was 3 columns, but I don't understand why I can't touch it. I've attached a tiff of what it looks like right now.
2. as the subject says "changing code is locked by the template is locked a template or translator" is giving me grief.
I've reviewed the previous posts on the subject, but I'm afraid my newbie-ness has left me not knowing what to do. ie. I can't find a time/date to change...I see the <head> and <script>, but they're greyed out on the one page I'm trying to edit. They're not greyed out on the template page however.
I also tried saving my .dwt as a new template, but that didn't work either.

I found the 2 things to change, but when I go back to my page...everything is gone! eek
(fear no panic - I did back up my website prior to making any changes
(file attached).
it looks like there is only 1 column instead of 3 sections. I was hoping to lose just the one on the right.

 Photographs with voice over narration and
 text titles were combined to create a presentation that
 will provide generations with a history on their forefather
 in this biography.

 celebration. Three hundred photographs were scanned and
 mixed with video clips to make the ultimate surprise movie.

 The couple travelled throughout SouthEast Asia and South

A newbie problem - Why 'ORA-00942: table or view does not exist'

Hi,
I am a newbie having a very basic problem.
I have just created a table by reading in a CSV file.
However when I try to SELECT from it, I get an error message saying :-
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
How can this be when I can see the table name ?
I have tried a couple of things that I found in the Discussion Forum, like 'ALTER SCHEMA' and 'GRANT SELECT'.
Neither seemed sensible because I have just created a table, and sure enough, neither helped.
It's disappointing that something so basic can go wrong.
I will be very grateful for any advice.

This tool and forum is awesome. I'm a developer that was never touched HTMLDB and now with in a month I'm developing applications quickly and when I have a question I have this active forum to ask my sometimes stupid and othertimes valid questions! This is great! I don't know where you all find the time to help out so much!
It is a little addicting though... I find myself sitting down Saturday morning just to spend a couple of minutes reading the posts and next thing I know hours have gone by as I use what I read because I can't wait until Monday...
Thank you all for everything!!!! HTMLDB, APEX, Javascript and now in another post I'm learning about "Fine Grained Access Control" or "Virtual Private Database".
