Touch or classic?

I returned by touch 4 days ago and am currently waiting for a new shipment to arrive. I'm starting to wonder though if the iPod Classic wouldn't be a better option?? I've heard they are having their problems as well (sluggish UI).
I mostly listen to my music and podcasts in the car while driving to/from work. What do you guys think? Should I hold out for a new touch, or get the classic and have more HD space?

I bought a touch but kept my 60 GB 5G iPod just in case I didn't like it. Well, the 5G is going to go up on ebay. There are so many great improvements that are afforded by the touch interface that I think there's no going back, even with less storage. And also the flash memory, though smaller, is better in all other respects - it's fast and there are no loading delays and such. One example of something vastly improved on the touch is Shuffle play. It's so much easier and more convenient that it isn't even funny. I found turning shuffle on and off on the 5G so inconvenient that I rarely used it. Also vastly improved is the combination lock feature. Again, terribly inconvenient on the 5G (entering the combination is a pain) so much so that I didn't use it. On the touch? It's fantastic. I've got mine set now to lock immediately and I feel much, much better about having my contacts on it and it isn't inconvenient at all. I won't go back to the old click-wheel interface. I'll live with 16 GB for now, and when 64 GB becomes feasible (32 GB still wouldn't be big enough to hold all my media) I'll upgrade to that iPod touch.
Stephen,
I think you've convinced me to wait for the touch. I've already sold my 5G 30GB on eBay and I'm glad I did. I can relate to the shuffle play being a pain also the lock feature. Not to mention the flash RAM.
Also, thanks to "ireadcomics" - your reasoning also makes sense. I had my 30GB full of music that I didn't listen to. I think now with 16GB of space I'll actually rotate playlists and listen to what I really want to.
I'm waiting for the touch - I just hope my Best Buy gets them in today or this weekend sometime.
Thanks guys!

    Yes.
You can authorize up to 5 computers to play itunes music ( pre-itunes plus).  There is no limit on itunes plus ( all itunes music for the past several years) and imported music.
You can sync as many ipods/ipads/iphones as you like to each of your computers.

  • Looking to Buy iPod touch or Classic

I am thinking of buying an iPod, either a Touch or Classic. But the specs call for a USB 2.0 port. I have an eMac (see specs below). Would I be able to buy a current generation iPod with the type of USB I have? When I called the Apple Store they told me it was not compatible with my computer and I would need to buy a new computer with a 2.0 USB. Is this true? Any suggestions?

Some of the key advantages and disadvantages of the iPod touch are as follows:
    Advantages.
    Larger screen for video playback
Safari Web Browser and WiFi for web access at any WiFi hotspot/home.
    Flash memory is faster
    Beautiful interface
Add, edit and remove Calendar and Contacts
Add, Edit and Email Notes buy they don't sync to Mac/PC
Add 3rd party apps (from Feb 08 - cost???)
Flash Memory is much less prone to damage.
Email access in WiFi hotspots, offline composing and read of email
Google Maps and Directions (one prepared set of directions isavailable offline)
    Weather and Stocks widgets
    Disadvantages
    No disk mode
    Reduced battery life
No offline Games (until Feb anyhow)
    No To Do function
    Unable to view Podcast notes.
    Much smaller storage
In the end it depends on your needs. Go to the shop and try the touch. If you don't get the "wow" then perhaps go for the classic this time.

  • IPod Touch, Nano & Classics Not Recongized in iTunes or Windows !!

I have 1 iPod Touch, 2 iPod Classic & 1 iPod Nano (brand new one)
Since the iTunes V9 update none of them will show up in Windows or iTunes.
I have tryed the 5 R's, wiping everything off the computer and reinstalling it, reinstalling iTunes and more!
    Still nothing
Have any of you had the same problem and managed to solve it ??
    Thanks in advance

What version of iTunes is on your computer?

  • Can't Install iTunes for iPod Classic over iTunes for iPod Touch - iPod Classic not regconized

I have an iPod Classic (80GB) in my car and wanted to buy an additional iPod for use in the house. The salesman assured me that the iPod Nano Touchscreen would be backward compatible with the hardware I have, but it wasn't, so the store manager kindly agreed to me swapping the unit for a brand new iPod Classic 160 GB (at the extra cost, of course).
I can remember that when I connected the iPod Touch the first time, it asked me whether I should install something, which I did. All my music was subsequently transferred to the iPod Touch. It was only when I tried it then that I discovered that it is not 100% backward compatible with my hardware.
Now that I have purchased the new 160 GB Classic, iTunes simply won't synchronize. I downloaded the latest iTunes and installed it - no change. I saw that you could make it work by checking 'Enable Disk Use' from the Summary tab. However, my iTunes does not have a 'Summary' tab, and when I checked further on Google, I found a statement on Apple Support that 'disk usage' is not supported on the iPod Touch.
I then ran 'Device sync tests' under 'Diagnostics' from the Help tab - it came up with the reply 'No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found'. In other words, iTunes still thinks that the connected device is an iPod Touch and not an iPod Classic, despite me having installed iTunes several times.
Is there a version of iTunes that I can dowload that would recognize the iPod Classic? How can I resolve this problem? I want the same music on both of my iPods.

Please igonore - stupidity on my side - problem was resolved with a call to the ever-so-friendly Apple Technical Support helpline!

  • What is faster in terms of song shuffling? touch, iPhone, classic?

I have a 2nd gen IPOD touch, will upgrading to an iphone 4 or the newest touch reduce lag between shuffling songs?
Is the touch faster than the classic since the classic is hard drive based?

I have never noticed any lag while my iPods (Classic and 2nd gen Touch) are on shuffle and I let the songs finish.
However, if I try to move to the next song within seconds of the song starting, and keep doing that, then yes, there may be a delay. That's probably because the iPod wasn't expecting to be asked to find a new song so soon.
What exactly are you doing when this lag occurs? Are you letting songs finish or do you keep skipping to the next track? How long is the delay? Some more information is required.

  • IPod Touch or Classic

Have an opportunity to get an iPod Touch (rebate offer when purchase a MacBook via edu store) – Any pitfalls as compared with the Classic?
I haven't frequented the iPod forums as I've an older, non-movie ipod and it's been working fine.
    Advice/Comments appreciated
    Geoff

In addition to what the other poster said, the storage capacity of the Touch is a big thing to consider. They currently only come in 8 gb and 16 gb. If this will be your primary iPod, and you have a TON of music that you MUST always have with you at all times, the Touch is probably not going to be the way to go. I had a Classic that I still use as my music library, and on my Touch I really only keep new stuff and whatever I am currently into, plus movies/tv shows/games.
If storage space is not a huge issue for you, then I recommend the Touch. It's just plain cool, and is much more than just a music player.

  • Touch or Classic? Which is better (quality)?

Which is better in terms of sound quality?

Classics. The Older 5.5 gens and Older series Ipods. The Newer 5.5 gens and the 6th Gens use a new sound chip. Same as for the Ipod Touches but Im not 100% sure with the Iphones.
Be careful though, The Ipods with that use the old style sound chip, which is far superior in quality of sound,  wasn't soldered well and the chip can seperate with The constant temperature change and unobserved  pressure applied to the unit when its in your pocket, book bag... ect.
Now Im not going to say that is 100% positive. Its just from experience owning a few new and older Ipods/Iphones.
Besides, How many older Mp3 plays can literally blow out your Earbuds{quality earbuds} if played too loud. I owned Bose Series{IE 2} in ear headphones and klipsch In ear Headphones{S5I Rugged series}.... The Key word is "Owned" lol.
Find an Older model that works great and compare it to the newer models. You will Hear the DIfference... or make you deaf in the process LOL.

  • Touch screen classic

my bb classic touch screen some times will stop workin or it will work by itself .
when this thing hapens the keypad work properly

Any damage to the screen? Scratches?
Do you use a screen protector? Still have the factory protection on it?
These elements could cause random behaviour of the screen.
Does it happen in specific circumstances like using one single app or browsing the web for instance?
Please don't forget to mark as "solved" if your question is replied and to "like" a useful reply to your post ;-)

  • How do I enable my new macbook pro to become my default computer to sync all my apple devices-iphone 4, touch, ipod classic, nano?  My five year old dell's hard drive has only 2GB of space available and is currently the computer I use for all these device

I have a new macbook pro that I wish to sync all my apple devices--ipodclassic,nano,iphone4,touch-- that are currently synced with a 5 year old windows based computer with only 2GB of available hard drive space. How can I do this and maintain all of my info-contacts, songs, photos etc without losing this data< Thanks

you can either update to lion/ios5 and use the cloud to sync or you can plug in said devices and sync them with your MBP instead of your dell via a tethered usb connection.
also, sign into your itunes store account on your mac.

  • Recommedations iPod Touch vs. iPod Classic

    Hi,
I am looking for any feedback as to which iPod to buy. I have just about finished loading my entire CD collection into iTunes, and it takes up about 7.1 GB so far. That's about 1/2 of the iPod Touch 16GB, but it doesn't even put a dent in the iPod classic capacity. I don't really plan on doubling my music collection any time soon, just an album or songs here and there. I might use it to catch up on a missed TV show or to watch a movie here and there, but that's about it. Also, I have heard that both the Touch and the Classic have there problems, but the Classic seems to have more.
    What should I do?
    Ray

Well it depends on your likeness. Would you prefer watching movies/TV Shows/music video widescreen? Then get Ipod touch. As you have may noticed that with an ipod touch, you can browse web, view youtube, and purchase music via wi-fi on your touch.
Or would you rather watch movies/tv shows/music video on a small screen (though it isn't small but it's small compared to touch).
Yes some people say that they have issues with touch and classic, but i have a touch (16 GB) and so far, I did not encounter any problems at all.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen  trouble connecting to my Win-Vista 64bit computer via USB.

    Hi,
I seem to have an issue with my iPod Touch 4G. Ever since upgrading to iOS5.
The iPod Touch has had issues connecting, via direct USB, to my Windows Vista 64 bit computer.  When I connect it, via USB, the computer will report the iPod Touch 4G as an "Unrecognized Device."  This prevents me from using the USB to sync the iPod or charge it via the computer's USB connection.
My work around is to turn off the iPod (via red slide bar method) then connect it to the USB.  At this point, it in it will automatically re-start the iPod and then it will recognize and sync or charge.  I can also connect it have it report as an "Unrecognized Device" leave it connected, turn it off(red slide bar) and turn it back on and it will also connect charge and sync.
The problem is that I must turn it off every time I want to connect it.  I can sync via wi-fi (but this causes issues with music that others have shared with me-keeps asking for their i-Tunes account) (happened after I "re-set" the I-Pod).  I needed to hard sync with the computer to make all the rights work out.
This same USB cable and computer works just fine with my other iPods (Touch 3G, Classic) and my iPhone 4S.  Only problem device is the Touch 4G.  The problematic iPod and same USB cable works without issue on other computers (i.e.:  don't have to turn it off and then plug it in).
I've followed the apple instructions and sequence to remove I-Tunes and a bunch of other related software and then reinstall it.  I've reset my iPod. Nothing corrects this issue with this particular iPod.  I've changed USB ports, tried other USB cables nothing changes the fact that I have to turn off and back on the iPod Touch 4G each time before I can get it to be properly recognized by the computer and thus charge or be recognized by iTunes.
This only started to happen to the iPod Touch 4G after I upgraded it from iOS4 to iOS5.  I also have iOS5 on my iPhone 4S - with no issues.  My other iPod Touch 3G is using iOS4.  It connects and syncs fine.
I've figured out a work around but, does anyone know how to fix this issue?  Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

  • Touch can not be read from or written to

After upgrading to iTunes 7.7.1 and iPod 2.0, I can not sync at all anymore. I get an error window telling me that my sync failed because my iPod Touch can not be read from or written to. I applied the "5 Rs" troubleshooting tips, to no avail. (5 Rs = restart, reset settings, reset iPod, remove files, restore).
I went to the Genius Bar & they were able to eventually get it to sync, but replaced the unit anyway.
I got home with my new iPod Touch and it had EXACTLY THE SAME problem as my old one did - the "could not read from or write to" my iPod Touch.
I have a new appointment for next week at the Genius Bar.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or know what the fix might be?
I want to try restoring to the iPod 2.0 or prior iTunes software, but can not figure out how to do that.
    All help/suggestions are welcome!
    Heidi

one of the solutions fixed the error on my itouch:
    Symptoms
When using iTunes to sync photos to iPod and iPhone, iTunes creates a folder called iPod Photo Cache in the top level of the folder you selected for your photos. Picking another folder to sync does not erase the previous iPod Photo Cache. Depending on how many photos are being synced, the hard drive could fill up.
    Products Affected
iPhone, iPod with color display, iPod photo, iPod nano, iPod nano (2nd generation), iPod (5th generation), iPod (5th generation Late 2006), iPod touch, iPod classic, iPod nano (3rd generation)
    Resolution
Drag the folder named iPod Photo Cache to the Trash or Recycle Bin.
If you're syncing from an iPhoto `08 album, use these steps to find the iPod Photo Cache:
    1. Go to your Pictures folder (~/Pictures) and locate the iPhoto Library file.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents from the shortcut menu.
    3. In the iPhoto Library window, locate the iPod Photo Cache folder and drag it to the Trash.
    4. Close the iPhoto Library window.
