Touch pad acts weird.

The touch pad of my pb seems to have a mind of its own.
When I move the cursor to a tight space (i.e. when I want to add a letter in a word, or check a box) and then tab the touch pad, the cursor moves so I have to bring it back to where the 'check' or new letter has to go. Sometimes it jumps 1/2, 3/4 " away. Sometimes it will stay in place.
It's sorta annoying, actually. Is there a way to 'set' it?

Is there a way to 'set' it?
Hi Midred,
I think you can reset the touchpad by covering the whole pad with the palm of your hand for a second or so.
When I first got my PBG4 with 10.3.x, I had a few instances where I'd do the above trick if and when the touchpad wasn't responsive. But I can't recall having any problems since Tiger/OS X 10.4
...so it might be worth a call to Apple support if it continues.
best of luck,
...ben

  • Keyboard and touch pad acting crazy

Posted earlier today about crazy keyboard jumping all around.Read a few pages by others with the same problem so I stopped in to my local computer store and the tech said the best fix is to turn off the touch pad and use a wireless mouse. He also said you can't use another keyboard either that will act properly unless the touchpad is turned off.
So, here's the question. How do you turn the dang thing (touch pad) off?
    All replies will be appreciated.
Edit: Touchpad turnoff button is just above the pad, hard to see but easy to touch. Turned it off, plugged in a wireless mouse and all is well again in Alabama. First time in months I don't have to re-write every line.

Hi cb! Thanks for clearing that up. I attached a detailed zip file that shows how to do that, step by step. As you have stated, either way will accomplish the task of disabling the touch pad. This doesn't have to be difficult. Choose one way or choose the other way. I personally like the flash card method. This screen shot is taken from the user guild, which I also provided in my other reply.

  • Iphone 5c touch screen acts weird

So i recently cracked the screen to my iphone 5c. I got it fixed, and it was fine for the first few days. Then the screen would do things on its own without me even touching it. Then it would just freeze. The phone doesnt freeze, but I try to use the touch screen, and nothing happens. Then i have to lock and unlock my phone to get it to work again. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

You got it fixed by who?
If it was repaired by someone other than Apple, then take it back to them. Apple won't touch it if someone else opened it.

  • Ipod touch 5g acting weird while charging

I charge my ipod using a wall to usb adapter. While charging, the ipod seems to lag behind my touch and not respond at all sometimes. Help?

    That happens to some:
    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Vision M Vertical Touch Pad Iss

[size="3" face="Times New Roman">If I press on the edge of the vertical touch pad in any place other than where the forward and reverse arrows are, it resets back to the beginning of what ever I am listening two. ?I have had the player replaced and the second does it as well. The tech folks at Creative can't seem to help or explain why this might be happening. Very annoying because sometimes when I aim for the options button, I hit the edge of the vertical touch pad and I get sent right back to the beginning of the song or book. Any ideas as to why this is happening or how to prevent??

    sharegood,
Are you referring to the side of the touch pad? Actually from your post, the player doesn't sound like it's faulty. In fact, it's normal operation. The side of the touch pad act as either a Rewind/Forward button (if you press and hold it) or a Previous/Next button (if you press it once).

  • This is detailed: I lost my touch pad scroll ability on my desktop when I installed Firefox, I am having a terrible time trying to sync my new Android tablet to my desktop, my desktop Firefox is acting very strangly (I need help trying to use it)

My Vista Home Premium desktop has not used Firefox for a long time. I just loaded it as well as on my Honeycomb Android. The statement that I made pretty much says what my problem is. I can use both of them at the same time and use a router with the air Verizon card installed.
I'll repeat my question: This is detailed: I lost my touch pad scroll ability on my desktop when I installed Firefox, I am having a terrible time trying to sync my new Android tablet to my desktop, my desktop Firefox is acting very strangely (I need help trying to use it)

  • On/Off Button on Shuffle (1Gb) Acting Weird

My Second Generation iPod Shuffle started to act weird after about 3 months of flawless usage.
When pulled from the charger, Shuffle will play music as expected as long as I don't touch the On/Off Button. (Regardless of the state of the button)
If I toggle the button, the Shuffle will appear dead until I replace it on the charger again. (Nothing works in On or Off Position)
At first, I thought it was a battery issue but was suprised to find that it played with the switch in the off position right off the charger.
I did recently update my iTunes and also updated to the latest iPod software. (Problem may or may not have happened post-upgrade)
I have tried the everything listed on the Apple Website except the Reset Utility. (Will try that tonight)
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue and also if anyone has any ideas as to the resolution. (Other than Sending it into Apple for Repair)

I think your contact for your switch may be dirty or damaged
Your best bet is to see if you can try to cleen under the button or take it to the store to have them replace the contacts on the power button pad
And no reset will not help with it , your probally dealing with an electric problem.

  • Losing network connection and NIC acts weird from warm/hot weather/temperatures?

    Hello.
Is there a known issue on MSI P43 NEO3-F (MSI-7514) motherboards' onboard RealTek RTL8168C (P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC network disconnecting and acting weird during warm/hot weather?
I noticed lately and back on 1/11/2009 night when weather got warm/hot (e.g., my room can get over 85F degrees, but lately it has been 80F degrees), my network would lose its connection. See http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5580/screenshots.gif for a few SpeedFan's sensor readings when the incidents occurred. I have never seen this happen when the weather is cooler (60-70F degrees in my room).
I also think this only happens if I am using the PC lightly (nothing intensive) like watching fullscreen videos (video overlay), surfing the Web, etc. I don't see any errors or evidences that it happens when idled (e.g., asleep or out). Uptime doesn't seem to matter since I have seen days to 3.5 hours.
I tried upgrading network driver twice (e.g., Realtek_XP_5714_0219 from
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false ...), disabling Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5 (XP's disabled already), releasing and renewing IP address (works, but still no network -- can't even ping my router!), unplugging and replugging the cat5 cable (do see the network port lights on), touching the network jack and hardware inside and outside of the case (not hot), trying another cat5 cable and a network port on a switch instead router's), changing from "Minimal Power Management" to full power (no underclocking/slowing down when idled), etc.
    During the disconnections, I tried:

I also noticed the disconnections usually start with red X icon in my taskbar with its bubble and then later the long disconnection even though no red X (1 GB and connected). If I were to disconnect the cat5 cable from NIC, then it wouldn't even detect it is missing the cable!
The only way to fix this was to reboot (best way and last longer) OR disable network connection and re-enable it (Windows XP's Network Connections) or the NIC itself (Device Manager), but that doesn't always last long (maybe a minute). Example of my pings right after disabling and re-enabling NIC:
    C:\>ping 192.168.0.1 -t
Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Force your NIC to run at 100Mbps full duplex and see how it goes.
Check your router / switch ports as well as cables.
I will try 100 Mbps if it happens again. So far, it hasn't occurred after installing the driver supplied by MSI's Web site and not RealTek's Web site. The room temperatures even got warmer like 83F degrees.
As for router and switch, what am I checking for? Other computers didn't have any problems. As for cat5 cables, I already tried another one like I said in my original post.

HP Pavilion 15-n221sa Notebook PC, windows 8.1, 8GB ram (7.89 usable), 64 bit os, 1.80 GHz intel core i3 processor
I got my new laptop that I bought recently (3-4 weeks, give or take) and I've noticed that my touch pad us acting up OFTEN. Sometimes it brings up the charms bar and randomly opens an option while other times it just straight up freezes. I can tell that it is the touch pad freezing and not the pc because I can still use the keyboard to do things on my laptop and I use a usb mouse that always works without fail.
I have installed quite a few things but I have done frequent full system scans using norton internet security and it has "removed" 1 virus so far. I haven't done a malware scan but I'm getting to it right now.
My question is has a spirit possessed my laptop or is my touchpad broken?

I will be happy to help with the TouchPad freezing. I don't think that you need to call the Ghostbusters quite yet. Is it only freezing when you try access Charms Bar or does it freeze at other times? Start by reinstalling your Synaptics TouchPad Driver.

  • MacBook Pro acting weird at startup

    Hi,
First of all thank you for reading this, it's quite a long story. And sorry for any grammatical mistakes, I'm Dutch.
    Summary
My MBP suddenly has been acting really weird: kernel_task eating 150-200% of the CPU which caused a super slow MBP, power button not working well, and MBP shutdown after ten minutes without touching it and with the battery on 90%. I did a clean install of OS X Lion, some PRAM and SMC resets and removed the MacBookPro7_1.plist file from the system library. The kernel_task high CPU problem is now fixed. But the power button is still not working: most of the time my MBP shuts down three seconds after I push the power button in a first attempt. In the second attempt I hold it for like five seconds and this works. Sometimes it works fine on the first attempt. Restarting the MBP from the desktop works fine. I'm also worried about the random shutdown. What could probably cause the problem with the power button and the MBP shutting down when I don't touch it, and is there a way to fix this myself? I'm not really into tech, so please keep your answer simple.
My MacBook Pro "13 (mid 2010) with OS X Lion has always been a charm since I bought it. I've never had any problems with my MBP until now. Two weeks ago I was going on a holiday and had to check a few things on my MBP in a hurry right before I was leaving. I'm afraid I forgot to turn off my MBP before I went on my holiday, but I can't remember this exactly. When I came back after a week, my MBP started acting weird at startup and then became really slow. The kernel_task was eating my CPU with 200% and I've tried many things to fix the MBP myself but it still isn't working well. I hope you can help me with this.
    This is what happened:
    1. When I push the power button to start my MBP, the first time it shuts down three seconds after I push the button. After the first attempt I hold the power button for five seconds, and my MBP turns on the right way. After all the fixes I've done this is still an issue.
    2. When I finally got my MBP started the first time after my holiday, it was really really really slow. I later found out that the cause was the kernel_task eating my CPU. It was using 150-200% with no applications running.
    3. The MBP was acting normally (not slow) in safe mode, but in safe mode I couldn't open some sites in Google Chrome, like Facebook and Google Maps. So this didn't work either (and was not the solution to my problem).
    4. I did some things with PRAM and SMC reset but this didn't work.
    5. A clean install was already on my mind for weeks, so I decided that this was the right moment. After I did a manual backup (not with Time Machine) I restarted my MBP holding some buttons to startup the OS X Utilities screen. I first erased my Macintosh HD and then I wanted to install Mavericks because that was the only option from the menu. It took me five hours and at the end it came up with a 'can't download Mavericks, try again' screen. The MBP wasn't starting up anymore because OS X Lion was already erased.
    6. So I became annoyed and decided to use my original Snow Leopard dvd which came with my MBP. Installing Snow Leopard took me two days!!!!!!!
    7. When I finally got Snow Leopard installed, it still was really really slow and the kernel_task was messing up my CPU again.
    8. After some hours of searching on the internet, I read the following thing: fixing the kernel_task problem was easy by removing a file from the system library (http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259). Of course I've researched this solution because I'm not a fan of changing things in the system. But I decided to give this a try and it worked! Like a charm!
    9. I still was on Snow Leopard and decided to upgrade to Lion again, because I did know for sure that my MBP could handle Lion and I wasn't sure with Mavericks. So I first downloaded Lion from the App Store and then opened the installation program. This took me one day again, probably because the file from the system library was put back with the installation of Lion...
    10. When I finally got Lion running, the kernel_task was using a high CPU% again so I removed the file from the system library again and restarted my MBP. This worked.
    11. I'm working on Lion for a day now and I've installed some applications (Adobe CS5 Master Collection, Office for Mac, updated my 17.000 mails in Mac Mail, and installed some browsers). It's working fine and the kernel_task is at 1-10%. The issue with the power button is still there but sometimes it works fine at the first attempt. Yesterday my MBP suddenly shut down when I didn't touch it for like ten minutes. The battery was still on 90%. Maybe this was caused by the fact that my MBP was running for four days non stop because of the OS X installations, and it was a hot day yesterday.
So this is what I've done so far in this order:
    1. First of all I did a manual backup on my external HDD. Not with Time Machine.
    2. I tried to restart my MBP multiple times. Restarting from the desktop worked well, but shutting it down and than turning it on with the power button didn't work well.
    3. I did PRAM and SMC resets multiple times.
    4. I decided to do a clean install and erased my Macintosh HD from the OS X Utilities screen at startup.
    5. Then I wanted to upgrade from Lion to Mavericks but Mavericks couldn't be downloaded.
    6. I've installed Snow Leopard from the original dvd, this took me two days.
    7. I've followed the instructions from http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259 (remove the file MacBookPro7_1.plist from the system library) and this worked for my MBP.
    8. Because my MBP was working fine again, I decided to upgrade to Lion. This took me one day.
    9. My MBP was really slow again: Lion put the MacBookPro7_1.plist back in the system library so I removed it again. This worked.
    10. The problem with the power button still holds so I did a SMC reset again. Didn't work. My MBP also shut down yesterday when I didn't touch it for like ten minutes. I hope this was caused by the fact that the MBP was running for four days non stop, and it was a hot day so maybe it was overheated.
So everything is working fine again, but the power button still isn't. Most of the time my MBP shuts down three seconds after I push the power button. In the second attempt I hold it for like five seconds and this works. Restarting the MBP from the desktop works fine, and the kernel_task is now using 1-10%. I'm also worried about my MBP suddenly shutting down. Is there a way to fix this myself?
    Thank you!

    TokkieTor,
This is the full error message I got from the test:
    4SNS/1/40000000: IP0R-9:166
I read that those letters (IP0R) stand for different errors in the hardware, in my case it's something with the Power Bus according to this website: http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-invoke-and-interpret-the-apple-hardware-tests/.
Again, I'm really not into tech so what is a Power Bus and should I be worried?
what you have is a problem with a sensor which monitors power bus current. The power bus is the main pathway along which electricity travels in your MacBook Pro. If the sensor isn’t individually repairable, then you could have reason to worry — if they tell you that a logic board replacement would be needed, then that could cost hundreds of euros. (One would hope that replacing a sensor would not require a logic board replacement, but only hardware experts can say for sure.)
I think that posts here are only editable for ten or fifteen minutes after replying.

  • Pavilion G4 - Diabling Touch Pad is not retained after reboot or Sleep

On a Pavilion G4 running Windows 8, when I double touch the upper left of the touch pad to disable it, it does so and acts accordingly.  However, after I close the lid to put it to sleep or re-boot, the system comes back up with the touch pad enabled.  What can I do to have this work correctly (and have it be disabled after sleep or reboot)?  Thanks.

Try this: Control Panel-->Mouse-->Device setting, choose [Disable] , then [ok] should permanentely disable touchpad function. Thanks!

  • Mail and Touch Pad problems

Didn't know where to put this so I put in Leopard and Mail...
I'm using a MacBook Air running 10.5.3 and a friend of mine is using a Powerbook 1.5 GH running 10.4.latest. The mbAir track pad is set up as: Tap to Click, Dragging, Two Finger > Secondary Click, Scroll (Pinch open & close Rotate), Screen Zoom, 3 fingers > Swipe to Navigate. The powerbook is very similar but since it doesn't have the iPhone type touch pad like the Air, it's not quite the same set up.
We were talking the other day and realized that we are having the same problem: whenever we are in Mac's Mail program and we are typing, all of a sudden we find ourselves on another line somewhere in the text that we have just written. Some of the text that was just type may have also been deleted. We both find that we can't figure out how it is happening.
The only thing I know is she (with the Powerbook) didn't have this problem until I turned on some of the other features of the touch pad, such as Tap to Click and Secondary Click, etc..
Has anyone had this happen to them?
Does anyone have any idea what is happening?
    Any ideas are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Yes, I am having this problem. Here's more detail:
    In Mail:
I can type into Mail's To: (or CC: or BCC:) field one address that is in the address book; the auto-complete works, and when I press Return or comma to auto-complete and start entering another recipient, everything I type thereafter is cumulatively reproduced. It looks like this, for example:
    (Babbette Duck)MMaMarMarkMarkSMarkScMarkScuMarkScupMarkScuppMarkScuppeMarkScupper (...etc.)
The name above in parens ( ) represents the successfully entered e-mail address. Everything after it is what happens (I selected and pasted it right from Mail) when I then try to type another name. As I type letters, something takes each letter I type, repeats it and every subsequent letter I've typed, and adds the new letter I type. Every character key, plus Delete, Return, and Shift, and the arrow keys, results in the reentering of the previous typing as illustrated above. Only the modifier keys Control, Option, and Command, the F keys, and the sound volume keys, are unaffected (and modifier+character combinations).
Trying to edit a name in Address Book (which I hadn't done before reading your post) results in the same phenomenon.
Then there's a weird thing: If I then select all the text in the To: field, using either mouse or Command-A, and delete using the 2nd-row Delete key, everything is deleted BUT then the name I was trying to type in appears, correctly typed. So somehow it is registering correctly, but it's as if the system is, after one entry in the To: field or any typing into an Address edit field, using any subsequent keys as select/copy/paste of everything that is typed before it.
And Console is now showing anything at all, let alone an error.

    Hey there MeKai Curtis,
It sounds like your touch screen is acting strangely when connected to a power source. I recommend the steps in the following article:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see theService FAQ for your product.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
