Touch Pad Sensitivity

Hi All,
How do I lower the sensitivity of the touch pad on my PowerBook G4? I'm running MacOS 10.4.11 on a 1 GHz PowerPC laptop with 512 MB of RAM & 80 GB of hard disk. The cache is 512 KB & Buss speed is 133 MHz. I presume there is some file I can set in the UNIX part of MacOS using Terminal.
Anyone done some tweaking to the touch pad? It's much too sensitive for this 12 inch laptop. When I'm typing the cursor is always grabbed and sent flying across the document I'm typing. Then I have to stop, hit "Undo Typing" under the "Edit" menu to restore the cursor back to the location it left from. Thanks for your help.
Best,
Don

  • Changing touch-pad sensitivity on on HP Pavilion dv7

    Hi,
I'm having issues with the sensativity of my touchpad, which seemed to start occuring after a windows update about a week ago. My touchpad is now ultra sensative, and I only need to glance a hand over it whilst typing and either the cursor will move and reposition itself in a random part of the text, or things will accidentally be opened etc etc. I have also noticed that the left and right click buttoms at the base of the touchpad have now swapped in functions as well, ie left click now acts as the right click, and vice versa (this also happened to the mouse after the update, but that was able to be fixed).
I have gone into the 'Control Panel' and searched under the 'Mouse' - but there are no device setting options nor anything to deal with a touch-pad issue.
I noticed this is a problem with a few other users, which has been solved by downloading the latest Synatpics software. However I'm not too sure that my laptop is using this software - I can't find 'Synaptics' under my 'Programs and Features'.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! The details of my laptop are as follows -
    HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
    Product number: XB100UA#ABA
    64 bit
    Windows 7

    Hi,
Synaptics is listed as the driver software for your notebook, so first of all, try downloading and installing the latest version of this on the link below.
    Synaptics Driver Installer.
If this does install Ok, restart the notebook and then see if you now have the options to configure the device as shown in the document Here.

  • T400 Touch Pad Sensitivity

This is my problem. Apparently while typing, I am inadvertantly brushing the touchpad, causing the cursor to jump all over the place, and taking the typing with it. This has happened before with other laptops, but never as much as with this T400.  How can I make the touchpad less sensitive without completely disabling it? I almost never use a mouse, so I need to keep the touchpad active.
Any help would be greately appreciated. And, please, keep it simple, since my computer expertise is extremely limited.

Had exactly the same issue after a stock install of Windows 7 32 bit on my refurb T400.
Went to Control Panel, no Ultranav adjustments available. Weird.
Found the Synaptics Ultranav driver - version 16.2.19.9 June 2013 and there's even a note about this version auto disabling the touchpad while you are typing. A known issue then. Installed this, rebooted, fixed!

  • ALPS touch pad on the HP laptop

We are new to the lap top world and find the way the touchpad pointer works not to our liking.
I have gone through the settings and have yet to find a way to turn the pointer off what I call the "Hover mode".  Gestures and double click speed settings have not helped.
If  you happen to leave the pointer over any clickable link it will be activated and this has led to some real problems at times.

Did you try adjusting the touch pad sensitivity?

  • Satellite P300 - how do I adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad?

I have read all of the forums without luck. Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad? I have gone into the control panel and clicked through the mouse settings but there is no 'Advanced' or 'Synaptics' tabs allowing this to be adjusted. At the moment, I am using the FN + F9 to disable the touch pad altogether, however I am hoping that this is a short term solution. Thanks for any replies.

If Synaptics driver is preinstalled on your notebook you can find advanced settings HERE .
When you open the properties the last option is Sensitivity .

  • Overly sensitive touch pad

My iBook is coming up on 3 years old. The past several days Iv noticed that my touch pad is becoming smoother and smoother. It's also become very sensitive to any movement. One small touch and it's toally across the page. Iv used a number of things to clean it off, but it's not helping much. It remains sensitive. Is there a normal life span for the touch before it needs to be replaced? Or is this just an individual problem? No idea is it's a simple item to replace. Any one have any hints?

There is a document about touchy or erratic trackpad operation:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=17228
At some point in the past, there also was a way you could try
and reset the trackpad by holding your palm over the entire
pad surface, for about a minute, then pull it away in one motion.
Not sure how that was supposed to work, but I tried it on an iBook
G3 dualUSB model and it seemed to make the trackpad less
touchy at the time. I have not had a need to do these things with
my newer mid-2005 iBookG4 1.33 12" machine, so far it just works.
Hopefully the part won't need replacing; that can be a service job.

Good luck in this, and happy computing!

The touch pad on my Mac book Pro is very sensitive and causes changes without hardly touching it. Can this be changed or does it need replacement?

    Touchpads are just that, touchpads.
You touch it and something happens unfortunately, you can't rest your fingers on it while your waiting to do something else or it triggers a response.
You either have to train yourself to remove your fingers and keep them suspended, causing wrist, arm and hand pain, or plug in a standard mouse where nothing happens until you press the button, like years of ergonomic experience has shown is a much superior method.
Touchpads are likely less expensive to produce and breakdown less often under warranty, so just like less expensive to produce glossy screens, it's a cost cutting measure they were  incorporated into our devices and required users to adapt to sweeps, gestures and other useless actions for little benefit.
I've owned my Early 2011 MacBook Pro for a year now and have only used the trackpad once, the mushy keyboard perhaps only a couple of dozen times. Preferring external devices where I can rest my digits and nothing happens until I apply pressure or use a scroll wheel.
Needless to say my keyboard area is in brand new condiiton, remains covered from the original packaging, protects against dirt and spills too.
Mac's keyboard and trackpad area tend to wear out pretty fast, like in about 3 years, making one consider getting a new machine long before it physically fails.

  • Zen Touch: Is clean up supposed to reset touch pad settin

Whenever I do a clean-up, it resets the touch pad to "Clicker: On" and "Sensitivity: Medium." Is this normal? Could this be addressed Creative?

Yes, disk cleanup also does a general reset of the player to correct any odd behaviour. It's really an "as designed" and you should only use disk cleanup when you have problems.

  • Zen Touch: problem with touch pad and formatt

    Hi guys!
I have a Zen Touch 20gb but I'm experiencing big problems with my touch pad: it really doesn't work fine, precision is almost none, to poit the desired voice in any menu I have to work hard. If the menu is longer it is almost impossible to navigate it with precision. I can't move of a single position, it jumps at least two... Is it a common problem or should I take it to be checked up?
    2nd problem:
I was trying to format the player's HD. Instructions said press play botton and contemporarly reset hole.
But nothing happens. When I release the system reboots.
    Any idea?
    Thanx!
    Gp

Please be patient with the touch pad. Reading these boards, I think a lot of people are not really understanding how the touch pad works and assuming it's defecti've and returning the Touch. First, set the sensitivity to where it's best for you. If you can't move only one line at a time, you may have it set too sensiti've. Second, use your index finger, not your thumb. Then, practice moving around. For me, it was really easy to move rapidly through the choices or to move just one line at a time. But moving at medium speed always tripped me up, until I figured out the technique of repeatedly stroking the touch pad through the slow zone to move several lines at a time, just like you were using a scroll wheel.

    Hi,
First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45019.exe
Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features and if you see the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver', right click it and select Uninstall.
If you did need to uninstall this, restart the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, or if you didn't need to uninstall an existing Synaptics application, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.
You should now find the settings you require if you open windows Control Panel, open Mouse, click the Device Settings tab and then click the settings button.

I grasp that your TouchPad is slow in responding to right and left clicks.
When I looked at the specifications for your notebook I see it came with Free Dos.
Here is a link to Using and Configuring the TouchPad (Windows 7 and Vista) that should help set the sensitivity.

  • Creative Vision:M Touch pad is

I just bought the 60 gig vision M and the touch pad is driving me crazy. Is there any way to turn off the tap selection and have it just scroll like the Zen Touch? Also, are there any cases for the 60 gig player because I can't find any?Message Edited by Random_Hero on 2-09-20060:43 PM

If your problem is that it selects when you are still trying to scroll you are not alone. I struggled with this a bit in the beginning (last week) as well. I tried setting the sensitivity to low which helped a little but did not solve the problem. I have adjusted how I use the touchpad by tapping the very top/bottom to scroll one item at a time which helps me a good deal. Obviously, this does not totally eliminate the problem. I wish the sensitivity could be set even lower but this will do for me for now. If you find a better solution please let us know...
