Touch screen for a Mac Mini?

I'm looking to buy a Mac Mini for music production and want to do something kinda out of the norm. I wanna get a 32" (perferrably) touch screen monitor to use with the Mac to eliminate the need for a keyboard and mouse. Does anyone know of a good touch screen monitor that will work well with a Mac Mini?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom,
I'm using an 4 wire overlay that was purchased off eBay. No brand name associated with it. I believe the 4 wire models can support dual touch, by the driver descriptions that are available for Windows, but Mac drivers don't.
Here is what I got.

And drivers.

ScreenRecycler can use the screen of another computer to extend the screen of your main computer.
    Give it a try.

I plan to purchase a Mac mini and then a new iPad.  Can I use the iPad as a keyboard and screen for the Mac mini, using either the USB connector or Wi-Fi?

I'm sorry, I should have said thru Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi.  I want to use the mini as a base station and the iPad like a laptop that I can sync when I'm home and carry with me when I travel.  Is is possible to hook these 2 up - iPad/mini, through Bluetooth?  I understand I need to use a regular monitor/keyboard/mouse on the initial install.

  • How do I use my 26" Polaroid FLM-2601 Television as a montor for my mac mini?

How do I use my 26" Polaroid FLM-2601 Television as a montor for my mac mini? I keep getting "no signal" for every resolution and refresh rate I've tried both for VGA and DVI settings (listed in the back of the manual for the polaroid tv and a few people posted online).
I  plug the VGA cable into my old monitor, changing the settings and move the VGA input cable to the TV,  (direct to VGA in or thru a VGA to DVI adaptor) and so far thru either input I only get a black screen with "No Signal - VGA Input" or "No Signal - DVI Input" displayed, so then I go back to the old monitor, try another resolution/refresh rate and try the TV again. This can't be the best way to do this - plus I'm out of resolution options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Go to System Preferences>Displays. Change the settings to your desire.

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.

  • HDMI to TV as Display for New Mac Mini DOESN'T WORK

I bought a new Mac Mini and was told I could us HDMI to my TV as display.   I was using this TV as display for older Mac Mini (VGA) and for a Windows PC, and DVD via HDMI.     TV is one year old.
The Genius at the store who sold me the new mini said all I needed was an HDMI cable.   Which I purchased.
The screen comes up for the Setup Assistant but as soon I select continue is goes to gray, mixed color scanning garbage mode.    If I turn the TV off and back on, the screen returns (now at the next prompt in the setup assistant) but again it goes gray after hitting continue.    Unusable, CANNOT set up my new purchase.
Unfortunately, the DVI to VGA adapter on my old mini is different and doesn't mate to the HDMI to DVI adapter that ships with new MacMini, so I can't test VGA.   The old DVI to VGA has extra pins not on the new one.
My purchase is not usable and is extremely poor.   Buyer beware I guess.

I have been using MacMini's for commercial digital signage/video conferencing gateway usage for sometime now, they all have HDMI output, about one third are on Lion the others still on Snow Leopard, here's what I have found.
Toshiba & LG tv's are generally reliable, Samsung and Philips generally are not, Panasonic, Sony, Sharp & Viewsonic all work, somtimes with a bit of work from me.
Cables are important (always look for compatibility with HDMI  revision 1.3 or greater (1.4 preferred), don't waste your money on exotic brands, adhere to the distance limitations, I generally send the HDMI signal wirelessly (cost of labor to add wiring to an existing space can be very high) so am limited to less than 50ft, same as with a wire.
READ THE TV MANUAL, find out what HDMI choices your tv possesses, is there a 'parallel' audio input available for the times when your signal origin is a MDP or DVI.
Some TV's just don't work well, cut your losses and get another when faced with this issue.

  • Using an emac as a monitor for a mac mini

    Hi,
Sorry if the question was already asked, but a quick search in the forum brought no answer.
I have an emac (OS9) and a mac mini(OSX). I'd like to use the emac as a monitor for the mac mini. Is it possible? How? (Both are G4, although I don't think that's relevant : I don't want to use them at the same time, only to use the Emac as a "screen")
    Many thanks.

I happen to know for a fact that you can use the internal screen on an iMac G3 333, and presumably also a 266 and 233. It has a fixed horizontal frequency so it will only display the resolutions that you can choose with it's motherboard installed: 640x480@117Hz, 800x600@95Hz, and 1024x768@75Hz. With DisplayConfigX I was even able to get other resolutions, as long as I stayed within the 60kHz horizontal frequency. If try to set it to any other resolution and refresh rate it will not work, so the best way to test it is to have another screen as your main screen so that you can set the resolutions on the iMac screen from there. I imagine that the screen in the eMac does not have a fixed horizontal frequency, so if you got the pinouts, you could probably get it working. However, I made a custom video cable for a slot loading iMac G3, and I couldn't get it to work.

  • I have an iPod touch 2nd generation. thinking of upgrading so should I go for the latest iPod touch or for the iPad mini?

I have an ipod touch 2nd generation. I am thinking of upgrading so should I go for the latest ipod touch or for the ipad mini?

It all depends upon your uses and preferences. The iPod had a bigger screen and is physically bigger and has an option cellular radio.

  • External touch screen with a Mac ?

    Hello
Is there someone who use an external touch screen with a Mac ?
I plan to buy a IIYAMA T2252MTS to use it with a MacBook Pro 2010.
I'm sure it's not a problem for video but I'm very anxious with touch input and how Mountain Lion can manage this ...
Do you use UDPP / Touch Base or any other driver ?
If I want only use a normal touch (1 finger), i think the mac can manage it easly, isn't it ?
    Thank for any responses ...

Is it possible to use an iMac as the display for a Mac mini?

iMacs late 2009 or newer can be used in Target display
mode.  Any older, no can do.
The only other way is via network Screen Sharing or
some otherVPN network like solution.  The issue here
though is that video performance will be pretty severely
    hampered.

  • What is good greeting card software for my mac mini with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1?  I want a wide range of existing templates such as Hallmark and Printshop offer, but can't find for this version OS X.

For my Mac mini with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1, what is a good greeting card software download with lots of templates and graphics?

    Hi simon2010,
as far as I can see, I have resolved it...
Just so I didn't write over my functioning disk in the Mac mini, I took it out and put a spare one in.  (Would have saved me going back to the Apple store to get it re-imaged if it did fail.)
I created a Mountain Lion installer on an 8GB USB stick, and first installed 10.8.4 (the latest at the current time) on my MacBook Pro... it worked fine, so I knew the installer stick had no problems at all (that's one thing to rule out of the list of potential causes).
With my spare hard disk in the Mac mini, I then went to try to install 10.8.4 on it, with my 16GB non-Apple RAM in it.  It failed as usual in the way I expressed originally.
I then just swapped my 16GB RAM for the original Apple 4GB RAM (2x2GB sticks) which I put back in the machine, and I tried re-installing.  No problem whatsoever - it installed perfectly.
It's the RAM!  Even though my RAM works perfectly once installed, the Apple OS installer refuses to proceed if Apple RAM is not in.  I put my 16GB RAM back in after installing the OS and all is fine.
I'm quite surprised Apple has done this.
Have you changed the RAM?  Let me know if it's the same problem or you have some differences.
I assume it will install fine if I put the orignal HD back in, again if I have the original Apple RAM in of course.
PS.  Also to note, the point where it failed in the installer with my 16GB RAM in, with the original Apple RAM in it took an incredibly long time towards the end of the bar moving across the screen; it says "5 minutes remaining" for at least 15, maybe 20 minutes, but gets past it eventually, then does a reboot to continue its install.

  • Glass touch screen for 310-1125f?

    Hi all,
Does any one know where I can buy a replacement glass touch screen for my touchsmart 310-1125f  product number: BV551AAR ? I have located the LCD display on ebay and a few other websites but I have not been able to find the actual touch screen glass assembly. Mine is cracked. I think the touch smart 310-1125 series is the same. It's the 20" size and HP's part number is 624359-001 and the description is Touch Screen Glass 20 Inch, Shasta this is according to HP's Partsurfer

    Hello soshie:
Welcome  to HP 's Forum. Sorry your Touchsmart has a crack glass. Please check your compter's warranty status. When you bought it came with a one year warranty. All HP Touchsmart 310 have the same external parts the last four numbers and letters only mean different memory and hard drive difference or more connector ports such as TV cards stuff like that. You can also try greg's list or Amazon.com and buy.com as well besides ebay. On this forum there was guy who had a glass cut for it. About six months or so back. He posted all that was involved. Thank you frrw. If i come accross any broken  cheep HP Touchsmart 310 models. While surfing the web. I will post it for you.

  • What is "native resolution" for my mac mini G4?

I'm going to buy a 22" Samsung monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution specs for the mac mini, PPC G4 model. I realize the resolution can be adjusted on the computer, and I need the refresh rate lower than the specified 154mhz limit for "cohesive" monitors. That aside, I remember a term "native resolution for the Mac" and I'm thinking this is, for comparison sake, where the mac should display to make text on a word processing document look 1:1 life size. Also, it will make 1" of graphics appear on 1" of the screen. Am I correct?
I'm wondering because when I run the Samsung monitor at 1920 x 1080, will I end up with tiny, scaled-down graphics and text? And, if so, will there be an ideal resolution to adjust the monitor to?
Hope I'm not too clueless on this.... I haven't used a large monitor in some time and don't remember where my 19" CRT used to be set!
    Thanks much for help!

    cocteau3,
You may be confusing native with default.  The G3 desktop would default to 640 by 480 if you zapped the PRAM.  You then went into monitors and sound to increase the resolution to what ever the monitor would support and the onboard video port would support.
Before the days of multi-sync monitors, the resolution was fixed for each monitor.  Until the Mac II, you had a fixed resolution monitor built in.  With the introduction of the NUBUS card, you could buy a card with support for a larger display that was also a fixed resolution.
The Mac IIcx had no onboard video.  You bought a NUBUS card for what ever monitor size you wanted.  The card and monitor usually came together.  With the Mac IIci, in an almost identical case, you had an onboard video port plus the option to add up to three nubus video cards.  Native for that onboard video port was now based on the maximum number of pixels that could be supported at thousands of colors or millions of colors.  If you wanted millions of colors, you had to add more VRAM or reduce the matrix from 1024 by 748 to 640 by 480.  Some games had to be at 256 colors because that is how they were programmed.  If you wanted 1024 by 768, you had to settle for thousands of colors, or less color depth than millions.  It was simply math.  How much math could the computer video port handle?
At our store, in 1999, we had a Quadra 950 set up with five displays.  The onboard video would only support 640 by 480 if you wanted millions of colors.  That was the native size.  Increase the image area (or monitor size) and you decreased the image size.  By having four NUBUS cards installed, you could have five monitors connected at once.  It was very easy to demonstrate that a 20" monitor could display 640 by 480 and have large text - viewable by the visually impared.  A second 20" monitor was set for 1152 by 870 and the text was tiny.  Also displayed was a 17" multi-sync that could change resolution.
With the advent of muti-resolution monitors, the idea of 'native resolution' has been replaced by 'supported resolutions.' A monitor may have a default setting but if it is multi-sync, there is no such thing as native.  Just factory default.  Set any size and frequency you like, so long as that frequency is supported.
This is the best historical link I found:
    http://www.proaxis.com/~ferris/docs/dpi-monitor.html
Note that 72dpi was convertable to typesetting because of that long forgotten concept of desktop publishing.
Finally, you can have a large display set at 1600 x 1200 to display many windows and have one window zoomed in to show text at 200%.  So many variables that native is not as useful as twenty years ago.
