Touch screen interface problems...

Heres the deal. I bought an iphone from a friend of mine. She bought the 3g. I've been using it for about a month and one section straight across the middle stopped working. I can't text, I can't delete. The phone is pretty much useless. I still have the original case, all paperwork. It even has the original screen protector on it. If I bring it back to apple will they replace or repair this since its obviously a known problem with the iphone or should I have my friend that originally purchased the iphone bring it back?
I've been an apple user for 7 years and I usually deal with the same people at the apple store so I'm just looking for some insight on how I should handle this.

Hey Tula,
Make sure there is nothing between your finger and the screen of the iPhone. Also make sure the screen of the iPhone is clean.
If the issue persists try restoring the iPhone. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744
If the restore does not resolve the issue, the iPhone may need hardware repair. Make a reservation to have a Genius take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Excel 2013 BeforeRightClick Event fails on Windows 8.1 Tablet (it's an Excel 2013 tablet touch screen interface bug)

I have developed customized table context menus in an Excel 2013 workbook on my Laptop. They work just fine on my laptop and my work desktop. But when I try to run them on my tablet PC the Worksheet_BeforeRightClick event in Excel 2013 never fires. Other
worksheet events appear to work okay. I have fully reinstalled Office 2013 Pro and that does not make any difference.
I have read other comments regarding this same problem going back to 2013, but have never seen Microsoft respond to this issue. Nor have I been able to find a resolution. Has anyone else run into this and found a solution?
Additional Discoveries: Testing on my tablet shows that adding one custom CommandBarButton to either the top or the bottom of the default "List Range Popup" context menu causes the Worksheet_BeforeRightClick event to fail.  The basic context
menu commands still show up, but the default dropdown button for additional context menu commands disappears. The event is perhaps firing, but any customized code for the context menu is not being handled properly by Excel. This does appear to be a bug and
not a question of coding error. Perhaps someone else with a tablet PC running WIndows 8.1 could test this.
    Based on comments
here this bug was introduced in Excel 2013 because others find the problem does not exist when using Excel 2010 on a tablet PC. Note that all the commenters on the linked thread that are experiencing this problem are using tablet PCs.
Update 3-13-15: I stand corrected. The Worksheet_BeforeRightClick does work on Excel 2013 Windows 8.1 tablets. I happen to own an Asus VivoTab Note 8, which comes with a Wacom stylus. If I use the Wacom sylus to right click on an Excel 2013 worksheet cell,
the Worksheet_BeforeRightClick event fires and modified context menu code runs just fine. But the code will not run if one uses their finger to right click a worksheet cell. This explains why this problem only shows up on tablet PCs. So the "bug"
introduced in Excel 2013 is a general user touch screen interface bug and not an Excel events programming bug.
Update 3-21-15: Switched to a  Toshiba Protege laptop with touch screen. Same issue with finger touch screen interface on the Toshiba touch screen as with the Asus VivoTab touch screen.
Laptop: Toshiba Protege (with touch screen), Windows 8.1 64bit and MSOffice 2013 Pro 32bit
Tablet: Asus VivoTab Note 8, Windows 8.1 32bit and MSOffice 2013 Pro 32 bit
Desktop: Generic, Windows 7 64bit and MSOffice 2013 Pro 64bit

    Hello Phil,
Command bars were deprecated and shouldn't be used any longer. Instead, you need to use the Fluent UI (aka Ribbon UI) instead. You can read more about the new UI in the following series of articles in MSDN:
Customizing Context Menus in Office 2010
Customizing the 2007 Office Fluent Ribbon for Developers (Part 1 of 3)
Customizing the 2007 Office Fluent Ribbon for Developers (Part 2 of 3)
Customizing the 2007 Office Fluent Ribbon for Developers (Part 3 of 3)
As a workaround you can add a custom control to the context
menu with the getEnabled or getVisible callback which will be invoked before the context menu is shown.

  • Mouseover tooltips on touch screen interface

    Hi folks
My app makes extensive use of mouseover "tooltips", sometimes using a plugin, other times using the "title" tag directly.  On busy pages this can be a very effective way to include useful extra information which is only visible when needed.
Of course, all of this useful information is inaccessible on touch screens, or non-mouse interfaces in general, along with right-click menus, I guess.
I would be grateful if anyone could advise whether there is an emerging standard or accepted technique to emulate mouseover events in a touch UI, which could realistically be implemented across the board for an app with clever use of templates and javascript or other arcane topics?
It would be a shame to have to adopt an entirely different approach which reduces functionality on a PC simply to maintain compatibility with the capabilities of other devices.
    Regards
    Chris

Yeah, this can be a problem.
Without putting too much thought into this, I think Touch Punch may help you (jQuery UI Touch Punch - Touch Event Support for jQuery UI), maybe. It's easy to try.
I think it wouldn't be hard to have a script that only runs on touch devices and enables touch events to trigger tooltips to show.
    Thanks

  • Touching screen delay problem

I had a problem with my 3gs that I thought would be alleviated when I got the iPhone4. My screen was broken at one point and I had it replaced. I noticed in a couple game apps that the screen registering my touch seemed delayed or not working. At first I thought it was the apps, but I confirmed it wasn't when I used the apps on my iPad and friends iPods and iPhones. I thought this was because of my replaced screen. I purchased the iPhone 4 today and backed-up from my original phone and I'm still having the same problem. The apps are still delaying the touch of the screen. I even tried deleting and re-installing the apps. Which leads me to believe that somehow the delay in the touch screen is somewhere written in my iPhone backup. Is that even possible?? This is driving me insane. Has anyone ever heard of this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • T70 / tx9 touch screen visibility problems - patchy somewhat iridescent hazing

I currently own a tx9 that has served me well for a year and a half.   in the past few months, the surface of the touch screen developed an iridescent patchy filmy look  that interferes with my ability to know if the picture I am about to take is in crystal clear focus, and as you might imagine, my photos have suffered as a result. the screen functions, and in certain lighting conditions (indirect mid morning light inside my house) I can mostly see what's going on, but generally, it is as though I am taking pictures mostly on faith, and do not know how the images look for certain from a clarity perspective until I upload them to my pc.  think of my problem as sort of an oil slick on water, but not swirly lore more like, peeling paint although nothing has peeled off that I am aware of)    is there anything at all that can help remedy this visibility problem or prevent it on future t series camera purchases? I have tried simply wiping it, using a lens cloth dampened with lens cleaner, and today just purchased a zagg screenprotector that I have yet not attempted to install as I ran across this forum.    i have for the most part kept my camera in a lined carrying case when not in use and in travels.  is it advisable to use a screen protector for the oled screen on the tx66? if so, what kind? ( I honestly would prefer to salvage my tx9 if possible and not shell  out the three hundred   plus dollars for the tx66, especially if this happens again in only two years..and I would hate to have to start looking at other brands.  my first Sony, the t70, also had similar problems and I willingly upgraded for the improvement in light sensitivity, but I really am ok with the tech in my tx9 otherwise ) .

There are MANY of us that have experienced the same issue.  This is NOT simply damage to the screen due to misuse, it is a failure of the anti-reflective coating.  We experienced this with a previous version of the Sony Cybershot and the store we purchased through advised us that the problem had been corrected on the new models.  As we have all found out, the touch screen on the Sony cameras has a serious durability issue and Sony has washed their hands of the problem.  We will not buy another sony camera again.  It's too bad, because the camera is really nice as a pocket camera and performs well otherwise.  Had we known that this was going to be an issue, we would have installed a protective film while it was new or simply chosen another camera.  We liked the simplicity of the touch screen but the failure of the anti reflective coating makes the screen almost unusable in areas where there is a lot of light.  The only solution that we have been able to find is to use a very fine polishing compound and remove the residual coating.  It means that the screen will have reflections but it will at least be more usable.  Toothpaste and a soft rag will remove the patchy areas of the coating that remains.  A touch sensitive screen should be a lot more durable than the one that Sony has been shipping. Sony has really done a disservice to their customers that have spent good money for a product that has a known failure problem.  What's worse is that they deny that there is an issue.  We all know better.

  • Flex for Touch Screen Interfaces

I am evaluating using Flex for the development of a couple of
touch screen kiosk projects. One major issue is the UI elements
like scroll bars. For both these projects, scroll bars are a design
necessity. (For better or for worse) Looking at the class
references it does not seem immediately clear that the scroll bars
can be modified in size. I do see that they can be skinned, but
there is no indication that I can go from the 16 px wide vertical
scroller to one say 48 px wide.
    Any thoughts?

I believe you can. If you lookup the source code you can
change these constants, create your own libraries and use them. you
will have to learn FLEX beyond evaluating it to prove this out, but
it could be done. It's open source, but you need to check out the
type of license. You may be able to sell it as a proprietary
    component.

  • Is there a way to fix ipod touch screen display problem with song list?

I was wondering if anybody has had this problem? I have an ipod touch 64gig 5th gen for probably about 2 years. I hardly use it because I have it as a back up ipod until primary one dies. This is the first time I came across this problem. Upon turning on device, the first artist/song list I choose displays correctly. Once I start choosing any other artist/song list afterwards, the display for the 1st artist/song list re-appears. If the song list is only a single song to 3-4 songs it will display correctly. Any other song list I choose that consist more than 5 songs, the first artist/song list re-appears on screen like the display is messed up.
For example: Upon turning on device, I choose Aaliyah with a list of 9 songs displaying.
Upon trying to select a different artist and song, for example I choose Nachtmar with a  list of 20 songs.
The Aaliyah with the list of 9 songs re appears in place of the song list I am attempting to choose. The songs play and it works, but the display is incorrect. Why is it doing this? Does anybody have this problem? I have tried resetting and it has currently been updated. I have came across this problem just very recently a couple of days ago. I have had a couple of hard resets requiring to erase all data in the past and I don't want to go that way again because I have about 3,500 songs. I have never experience this problem before in the past. I just want it to display the current list of songs. It's inconvenient having to type in every song while playing in the car instead of being able to easily pick an individual song.

I have this problem too and it drives me crazy. When I view my ipod, I don't want to see a list of the first 8 songs in my ipod library. I just want to see the current song playing. It's like the ipod display goes into some type of "sleep" mode while your music plays, and the display defaults to show the first few songs in your ipod touch library, even though none of those songs are currently being played. I have to take the time to either flip the ipod over a couple of times in order for that list to disappear just to see the current song playing.
This is an example of what I see on my display after the current song begins playing. These are the first songs in my ipod library. To get rid of this view, I have to either shake the ipod or flip it over a couple of times and the current song is now displayed, allowing you to see the current song, also allowing you access to the arrows to either fast forward or playback/reverse. On the display, the songs are in a grid or table format (unable to show that here).

  • Ipod Touch Screen (BURNED) problem.

    Hi Apple members.
Last night i was listening to songs and it was working perfectly then i turned of the ipod and put it in my drawer and then in the morning when i opened the drawer i see this burned mark on the screen of my ipod.
I take really good care of my gadgets and as you can see in the picture of the back it is almost scrathless and dentless and it has never been droped.
And one more thing it was not on charging also.
What could be the problem with it...
Everything else works fine the wifi, music player , browser , etc.
even the screen response to the touch onthe burned portion of the screen.
Please ipod gurus help me out solving this problem.
    And can it be repaired.

The screen isn't burned, it's broken. There is no way to repair a cracked LCD-Display, so you'll have to get it replaced or do so yourself.

  • Touch screen interfaces with CS 6

i have a Planar PX2230MW and CS6 photoshop will not interface.  any help with newer drivers or nothing as of yet.  the monitor will work with CS5.5

Photoshop does not have any special touch support.  If there is special Photoshop support for your touch device its programmed into the touch devices device driver.  It may be highly configureible for Photoshop.  I have a Wacom Intuos 5 Tablet with 10 finger touch support.  Wacom drivers can be configured for different running application. And there some special settings for Photoshop.  The Intuos 5 is first of all a Pen tablet with pressure support.  It also has express keys and ring.  The Wacom configuration application can be use to program Express keys and ring support. Pen Support and touch support.  Here is what my Photoshop configuration look like.  Right now the touch support is limited to five finger touch. That may change.

  • Nokia 5800 Touch Screen unique problem

    Hi
My 5800 is showing some unique problems these days.
If i click the telephone key on the touch panel the contact keys gets pressed.
And this happens acroos all applications.Tried reset, hard, soft everything but not got the solution.
If anyone has please do share as this is taking on my nerve.

It's not unique because other people have had the same issue.
It happened on my device when I took it apart and put back together and tightened the screws too much. It has something to do with the connector connecting the display's touch sensor to the phone electronics.
    Loosening the screws helped.
(I took it apart to install some non-Nokia covers on it which might not have the exactly same dimensions as the original ones. By the way some non-Nokia covers have a ridiculous design flaw which reflects the light from the LED flash right into the camera module and ruins all photos taken with a flash!)

  • Refurbished iPod Touch Screen backlight problem

My Refurbished iPod Touch just came in and I was so excited. They sent it with the battery completely drained and I charged it halfway. The screen didn't light up. So Now I fully charged it and still nothing. I even purchased & upgraded software and still nothing.
The only way you can see something is by putting a light over it or putting near a window. I managed to get into the settings and check the screen brightness. I put it into the highest setting and still the screen doesn't light up.
    Is the Backlight Bust????

    Christian Rosario wrote:

    Thanks,

i restored as a new. I am facing following problems :
    1. if iphone is locked then it won't get unlocked. I need to swipe/restart many times to unlock it. or need to use siri to unlock it.

for e.g some applications will open without actually opening it. some applications will close automatically.
    3. sometimes suddenly in the middle of work, iphone touch will stop responding.
There is no specific case for above problems. I m facing these issues in the middle of any applications at any moment of time.

  • Using functional global variables to transfer data between touch screen device and other targets

    Hi,
We are currently developing a control system that will operate on a cRIO with a touch screen interface. During development we have been using functional global variables (FGVs) to handle most of the settings/data etc, however we have just realised that we may have an issue updating the data on the touch screen, and vice versa.
Previously we have implemented similar programs using shared variables, however we were wondering if there is anyway to implement FGVs in a similar manner, whether it'd be a combination of FGVs and shared variables.
    Regards,
    Mike
    Software version: Labview 8.2.1

See this thread on LAVA about sharing FGV's across projects. THis should be extendable to cross paltforms (I believe).
You also may want to concider an upgrade to LV 8.5.1. We have found a number of performance related issues with LV 8.2.1 and RT.
If you decide not to upgrade, just remeber what I wrote (above) when you have reason to question the performance.

  • Will an iMac mini and mountain lion work with a touch screen monitor?

I was wondering if Mountain Lion would work with a touch screen monitor. I have a project in mind and this is a key part to the equation. If any one could help this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I do Not know for certain, but from my understanding, touch screen interfaces require that the OS version used to drive them be "designed" from the beginning to operate within that environment.  Obviously, at this point OS X has Not been designed to function that way (non of the Mac's using it work that way); although the mobile version, iOS 6, used in iPhones and iPads was indeed designed from scratch to operate that way.  So one day sometime down the road it's possible that OS X too will share this ability.  But not yet.
    Hope this helps

  • Need advice for installing flex application in touch screen Kiosks

    Hello,
We have a requirement in one of our project to create touch screen interfaces and I am intending to user Adobe Flex for the development and run them in Adobe Air because, definitely it saves development time and great look and feel.
However, I need advice on how to connect the application to a touch screen events like we do on  Keyborad and mouse events like, click() or onFocus etc.
    Please advice.
    Best Regards,
    Jai Kishan Shah

Bar Code Scanners are no different than keyboards in my experience.  It just sends the text to whatever application is open. Integrating it with Flex requires no effort.  You just have to be sure that Flex is the current application and the field you want to put the data in is given focus.
In a point of sale application with very specific use case and limited interface, it is easy to force the app to give focus to the input field that needs to accept your input.
Credit card swipers work the same way.
I don't know about a weighing scale, but I bet it is very similar.  If not, you may want to use Java for scale integration and then use Merapi to integrate with the Java applet.
