Touch won't charge

My touch completely ran out of battery, so i plugged it into my computer. When i did so, the computer told me that there was a malfunctioning device that was detected, so i looked for the solutions it gave me. All it told me to do was to reconnect the device or replace it; gee, thanks windows. Anyways, itunes doesnt detect any ipod on the computer, and the touch won't charge. I have tried connecting the touch to my laptop as well, and got the same message. I decided to charge it with the car charger in my truck, but nothing happened when i plugged it in. I have read a bunch of articles from apple and they said when its that low on battery, it may take a few minutes of charging before anything shows on the screen, but its been over half an hour. Can somebody please help, i've had this thing for less than a day and i don't want to send it back in if i can help it.

Ok i just fixed it. I did the restart thing (press and hold power button and home button) and it restarted. I can't believe that wasn't the first thing i thought to do. I'm surprised that connecting to itunes wouldnt unfreeze it. O well, as long as it's working again.

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch won't charge

    Hi, folks:
Suddenly, my 4th generation iPod Touch won't charge. I don't mean it won't hold a charge; I mean it WON'T charge. There's no (peep!) when I attach it to a Mac, a Windows box, or to the wall. I've tried not only at my place but at my doctor's office, too, on his computer. Rats.
It fell three feet onto a concrete floor a week before this happened, so I'm unsure of cause/effect there. However, chances are most excellent that I touched it while filled with static electicity (my bed is exceedingly staticky). Maybe I touched the charging port? I have no idea, but I kinda sorta have a memory of having gotten a shock while touching my pod and wondering whether that was bad.
It'll be a couple more days before I can get to a Genius Bar (but thank cow I'm in New York City and have my pick of them!). In the meantime, can anyone calm me down about my situation? Do you imagine it's doomed (it IS still operable provided I keep it plugged in, though iTunes can't see it since it won't mount), or do you spose the installation of a new battery might bring my precious baby back to me? It IS freshly backed up (again, thank cow!), but I'm not in a position to buy a new one right now, and unfortunately, I don't know what to do with my eyeballs without a Touch in front of them.
Oh, how I hope someone can tell me that this has happened to him, and an Apple Genius merely did something magical and handed it back intact and amazing again so Ican cry happy tears. It's been four days and I'm just sick without it (and having to look at this gigantic Mac, with its large and beautiful text in many windows, means I can't RECLINE! WAAAAH!).
Thanks for any soothing words you have, and if you have sad ones, well, I'll vag up and read them, as I've prepared for the worst anyway (sob!). Just please deliver them gently.
    I appreciate it!

Wow, Kevin; that's a tantalizing theory! I don't like it (I *never* like to think about logic board damage for any piece of hardware), but it's tantalizing, as it would explain my pod seemingly charging out of thin air, and it'd also explain why my pod doesn't just DIE altogether from a dead battery.
I feel like an idiot: I have iTunes set to never sync automatically with my pod, so it never automatically recognizes the pod. I'll bet I could sync it if I clicked to "apply," as I've been downloading new apps since 2/21 (the last time I backed the pod up, mere minutes before it failed), but I don't want to risk not having a connection that's 100% and bollixing up what's on the pod now. (I'll be in the hospital for a day and will need something to read the whole time; I'll need an intact pod!)
Thanks for sticking with me, Kevin; I always like figgering things out, and your theory's interesting. I'll mention it to the Genius. It doesn't give me any hope, but not having any hope, I can always be pleasantly surprised, whereas if I go in all hopeful, someone can dash my dreams. This way, I'll prolly just have my expectations met.
I appreciate your talking it out with me a lot!

  • IPod touch won't charge while installed in vehicle through direct interface

    Hello,
This just began happening about two weeks ago. The touch won't charge while installed in the car directly through the interface. I have tried three different set-ups so I know it is not the iPod cable or stereo. It seems to charge and hold said charge fine through wall plug or CP but while in the car it only seems to charge enough to continue playing and then when the car is off, it acts as though it is no longer connected and dies so when I start the car the next time, I have to wait for the unit to charge enough to play...
Oh and it is a 1st gen 8gb touch.
Is this the battery or a hardware issue with the touch itself?
    Thanks for any help...
    Nick

I have the same problem with my Audi and started when I installed the 3.0 update. Besides I can't use the Hi Fi Apple device, which I bought 3 years ago. I'm sure the update didn't take in considerations old interfaces and the HiFi.

  • IPod touch won't charge, not recognized by iTunes or Finder

    Hi -
My iPod 4th gen - version 6.1.2 stopped charging midway, now not recognzed by iTunes or Finder. Battery won't charge. I have been through the diagnostics, reset, rebooted, etc. USB ports are OK...
Bad cable seems unlikely - it worked before...
I saw the advice about updating software, but if the device is not connected, so how could I do that?
    Thanks,
    David

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • New ipod touch won't charge/sync on the computer or using a wall charger?

My new ipod touch was working and i synced it on itunes and downloaded some apps and then it suddenly could not recognise it and stopped syncing.
it came up with error 0xe8000001 and said the iphone cannot be found, eventhough it's an itouch not iphone.
Now the error does not come up but it's not recognised on any of the computers. The cable is fine as it works for other ipods. It won't charge on the wall charger either and the battery is almost out. It syncs for about one second when i plug the usb into the computer and beeps and then disconnects again.
    Please help?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Ipod touch won't charge/show up in itunes or on pc. What to do?

My ipod touch battery was low, so i tried to charge it. But it won't charge, i also tried a USB Wall charger. Then i tried to connect it to my pc (windows vista). But it won't show up, not in itunes neither on my computer. It just doesn't recognize my device. I tried another "dock connector to usb cable". But it made no difference.
    What to do?

    - When connected to a charger try restting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next after charging, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will help.  For recovery mode see:

I have a 4g ipod touch that won't charge 100% even when i leave on the charger for a good little while, I dont wanna leave it on the charger too long cause i'm scared i might fry the battery or something.

What is a "good long while"?
Charging times: Fast charge in about 2 hours (80% capacity), full charge in about 4 hours
yu can't overcharge the iPod's battery. Apple recommends almost fully discharging and then fully chargin ghte battery at least once a month.

  • My ipod touch won't charge.  I let it run all the way down, and now it shows a red empty battery, won't turn off or orn.

My ipod touch won't recharge after I let it run all the way down.  It shows an empty battery with a tiny bit of red, and a spiky unblinking circle on the batery.  I can't turn it off or slide the slider.  I tried to charge it for 8 hours and nothing.

  • IPod Touch won't charge, turn on, or do anything.... HELP?

    Hi
    I have a 1st Gen iPod Touch
    the problem was
    it had 10% power left
so i charge it with an AC wall charger
    after about 2 mins
    the ipod shutdown immediately
    like without the circling thing
    then i unplug the ipod
plug it in my laptop (a PC, vista, with itunes)
    nothing happen
i tried holding the Sleep/Wake button & Home for 30 secs, Failed
i tried holding Sleep/Wake button to turn it on, but again failed
So i notice it has this weird respond
the wall charger has a little light, whenever it's plugged in, it green.
whenever it's charging something, it turns red
so even though i plug my itouch for hours, it still green
    and the weird thing is
after i unplugged the wall charger with the itouch still connected
the green light is still on
so i assumed the itouch gave out power
i'm a software guy but no electronic stuff guy
so i think somehow the circuit thingy in the battery has been switched from getting energy to giving out battery
is there anyway i can fix this?
the bad thing are it won't turn on, it won't charge
    contact me at [email protected]
if you have any problem reading this
because i think it's confusing at first

    It sounds like something fried.
If you're lucky you just need the battery replaced.
If it's still under warranty send it to Apple if it isn't then is there an iPod Doctor where you are ?
That battery replacement out of warranty was running around $75 when I last checked but if the charge is more you'll have to weigh what ever the repair cost is against buying a refurbished Touch.
