Touch won't connect - suggestions not working

There is a long trail of tears here so bear with me while I hit the high points.
My daughter has a 16GB Touch that is a year old (Christmas last year). It has been updated with the upgrades until a week ago.
Problem started with Touch failing to be reconized on her computer (Win XP SP3 with all updates) when she tried to connect and recharge. Returned a USB failure message in Windows. Note that this has worked fine until last week then the USB error started, nothing after that.
I followed the all the suggestions in the Forums as well as upgrade to iTune v8.0 (20). Nothing worked.
By now the Touch is completely discharged and upon connecting to a USB port shows the charging screen on the Touch for about 3-5 minutes and then changes to the Apple logo. While the charging logo is displayed, the iTune is frozen and non-responsive. When the screen changes to the Apple logo, the USB connecting sound is played on the computer.
For a while, I had the Touch being recognized as a camera problem and think I have run that to ground (selecting the "do nothing" suggestion in Scanners and Cameras and then later starting and stoping the AMDS service).
However, still not able to connect.
While the Touch was being recognized as a camera, I could discover it in Windows Explorer and download its picture via the Windows Camera Wizard.
I've tried all combinations of removing and restoring all Apples software to no better results and no recognition. I've tried the Five-Rs too. BTW, pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button does nothing and the Sleep/Wake + Home causes the Apple logo to first go off, then return but nothing further.
I've tried connecting to all four USB ports on her computer and even another computer (WinXP Media Center recognized it as a camera too BTW).)
I've left it connected for hours hoping it charged but the "empty" recharge screen still comes up on a reconnection to the USB port. After 15-20 minutes the Apple logo goes off and the Touch appears to be sleeping.
I know the battery has a limited life but this Touch is only moderately used and it typically only charged a couple of time per week over the last year (my daughter is only 11 and is a regular user but not a very heavy user one). This is well short of the anticipated 300 charge/discharge cycles expected.
I stumped. Anybody have any idea?

Does anyone have any ideas?
I suspect this may be more than one problem: (1) failure to charge and (2) failure to connect with iTunes.
Is there anything (other than bad battery) that would prevent the Touch from charging even if it isn't connecting with iTunes or registering correctly on the USB port?

    Given the information supplied, it sounds very similar to what happened to my wife's 4.  Locked up...came back on with a blank (bluish) screen...could here emails and text coming through.  It would get very hot as well.  Our local apple store tried two times to rescue it, ultimately rendering it complete inoperable.  I'm sorry to say in our case we had to buy a refurb and trade in the phone for $150, which actually wasn't a bad deal.
    There could be other information I'm missing, but I would start with seeing if apple can restore your phone.  If they can't, then I'm pretty sure it's dead.

I also have an IPad2 that belongs to my daughter and it connects with our wifi at home with no problem.  But, why is my wifi telling me that my password is wrong.  I have tried everything, we have changed the pass word and that did not work.  We have have taken security off of our wifi and my ipod touch give me another message, but it won't connect to my wifi at home.  Please help... b/c the greatest thing for me is to be able to connect to wifi at home.

    I have even shut down my ipod touch to see if it fixes the lack of wifi connection at home but it keeps telling me my password is wrong.  I can connect everywhere else, but not at home.  Pls help my.. I need to connect at home.  Does it matter if we have othere decives like ipads connected to the same wifi.  Because we have an ipad2 and my ipod and up until 1 week ago, we had very little issues keeping both of our devices connected at home.  Eitherway the ipad2 is still working just fine on our home wifi, but my ipod touch keeps refuseing to accept the password.
    Pls help, i am very frustrated and I have tried everything.

    I have 2 of them that only connected for a day and then reset network settings and they connected again for a day now resetting network settings does not fix it either. My iphone used to work with my home network but after upgrading to the latest OS which is the same versions as the ipods it no longer works either. Acts the same as the ipods. It would seem that the latest tweeks to the OS is the problem with wifi connectivity.

I had the screen replaced about a month ago and it was working fine.  I woke up the other day and went on my camera and it had stopped working, it won't let me change from the front to back camera so i don't know what the problem  is: now all it shows when i go on the camera app is the shutter or a black screen. I have tried the advice people have said but it hasn't seemed to work. Any help would be appreciated!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

    However, it other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider did the previous screen replacement , Apple will not help.
    For the future, saying that you tried the advice people have said, provides us with zero information as to what yu tried.

    It could be that the touch pad is broken on the inside and the contact area for the one button is either broken, blocked with an object or the cable going to the mother board is not inserted correctly into the mother board connector. I think in any case the case will have to come off and someone look for physical/connection problems.  It doesn't sound like a software problem but there is always a chance.

  • Bug (?) with Corporate Connectivity is (not) Working check

    Noticed something odd.  In situations where:
    Direct Access client is offsite
    their Internet access is via WiFi
    they first have to enter their access credentials through a web-based captive portal before access is granted
    then the Corporate Connectivity Check process malfunctions.  Have seen cases where, after accessing the captive portal and being authenticated, Internet access works on the client.  Direct Access then connects successfully.  This is confirmed
    on the server console, showing the client connected and the user credentials used.  The client is able to access internal resources just fine (e.g. network drives on file servers).
    But on the client itself, it still says Corporate Connectivity is Not Working.  The WiFi icon is showing an exclamation mark.  My belief is that this is caused by the client's inability to access Microsoft NCSI servers in a timely fashion.
    So it looks like the corporate connectivity checks are dependent on Microsoft NCSI checks.
    Can someone at Microsoft please look into this, as it is confusing our users (not to mention us guys in IT who have only just discovered this odd behaviour!).

    After I followed the steps, I found that the time out occurs when trying to resolve the internal domain name.
    The Windows Firewall was enabled on all profiles ( active on the public )
    There were no IPsec sessions established in the Security associations tab, so I enabled the audit policy of the IPsec as per your instructions.
    There is reoccurring error in the Security log :

    As far as I understand - the connection can not be established due to certificate error, which in my case is strange since my DA configuration is set to not use computer certificates, only Kerberos.

    The same story. No 3G after updating to 6.1.  Told my daughter temporarily not to do an update on her iPad with 6.01. We've exchanged SIMs. I inserted her SIM in my iPad - 3G appeared immediately. And my SIM in her iPad with ios 6.01 also WORKS FINE. We use the same provider - Megafon Moscow. After attempting to revert SIMs to original configuration, 3G disappeared on my iPad again. Don't know what's going on with SIM during the update to 6.1

    Update: I seem to have fixed the problem!  I went to the "summary" section of my iPod after clicking on the device on the left side of iTunes.  I checked the box that allowed me to "manually manage music and videos" and applied this option.  The songs are syncing!  And, yay, they're playing on my iPod now!  Hopefully, this helps anyone else who might have this problem.  There might be other issues, but this is working for now.

    Try connecting it to another PC, if it is ok, then your PC has some software conflict with iTunes.
    If it hangs other PC also, then your iPod Hardisk, maybe bad.
    Do the disk diagnosticas posted earlier by tt2, to check the health of your Hardisk.

    It should. It will only respond if there's something on the card for it to respond to, so do you have pics on the card?
    And if it's messing up; try giving the iPad a restart. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see hte red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again. That can clear up any glitches on the device itself.
