Touched up photo with layers. Could only save as PSD. Need JPEG; How?

Not super experienced with PS, so thanks for your patience with this newbie question.I touched up photos using layers. I went to save and it would only let me save as a PSD. The PSD format does not work for my application. How can I save it as a JPEG. The picture is going to be used on a Multiple listing Service. The photo will open in PS. Not even Finder on my Mac will open it.

The JPEG format does not support layers, period. The correct solution is as described in post #1 by C.P.
Please note that the file will be flattened to save it as a JPEG, so heed the admonition to keep your layered original and work on a copy as he describes.

PS opened with the "Happy Birthday" type layer intact and with the smart object background layer. Of course, the LR edits, crop and vignette on the psd file were not visible in PS.
Because they don't exist there! They will when you render them.
I clicked the eye of the Happy Birthday to render it invisible.
I added a new "Happy Anniversary" type layer.
Saved the new revised psd file and returned to LR.
In LR, I still have only 1 psd file stacked with the original raw file, but now it says Happy Anniversary. Note: sometimes it may take a few moments for the new PS edits to appear. By selecting another image and then reselect this psd file tends to speed this rendering of the new image.
So where in all this is the LR edits you produce AFTER up created the layers after opening the layered doc in PS?
I now have a new card ready to print just as before with all the LR edits originally made on the birthday card including the LR edits, crop and vignette made on the original psd file.
And as far as I can tell, all those edits were applied in PS AFTER rendering.
If I send that psd file a third time to PS, I still have the smart object layer, and both type layers. I can add a 3rd type layer "Happy Easter" if I so desire and return to LR.
Again, the crop and vignette are seen in the one psd file in LR.
So...yes, I can have both layers AND LR adjustments including the original raw adjustments through the smart object background.
No, you have a layered file and you have instructions but the layered file isn't rendered with those instructions and doing so would flatten the results.

It seems like a permission issue. Grant 'write and read' permission to the file.
MAC : Right click on the file > click on "Get Info"
scroll to the bottom "Permissions" > unlock it > set permission as "Write and read" to all the users.
Win: Right click on the file > "Properties".
Uncheck "Attributes: Read only".
Go to 'Security' tab > 'Edit'
Give full control check all in "Alloy" column; uncheck all from deny column if any to all the users.

Since some time ago I often get this message when trying to save my PSD file: "could not save my_file.psd because the file is already in use or was left open by another application", whereas there's no application that uses the file in reality. What could cause this problem?

If I remember correctly posibilities include the OS, anti-virus software, … and if you work across a network you are basically on your own anyway as Adobe specifically discourages this.

Yes, that's the maximum for PSD. Save as PSB instead.

Issue using Photoshop together with Lightroom - "Could not save because..."

I have a really annoying issue with Lightroom and Photoshop CS3. When I use Photoshop as my external editor for Lightroom, Photoshop opens up nicely and I am able to edit. However when I go to save I get the following message "Could not save because the file is already in use or was left open". The only way I'm able to save then is to shut down Lightroom. Then I can save in Photoshop and after that I launch Lightroom again to continue working in there.
I don't know if this has anything to do with this issue, but I do have all my images on a network drive which I access exactly the same way as any external drive.

Online chat with Adobe staff member helped solve the issue.
A corrupted preferences folder was removed, a new one automatically created solved the issue.
New folder was then deleted and old folder reinstated with the original name (if that makes sense).
Sorted.

- You do have the volume set all the way up?
- Have you tried another pair of headphones/do the headphone work in other devices?
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the headphone plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

UK TV with scart input only - got it working, here's how

For those of you that are in the same predicament and would like to know how to get the apple tv working with your 'old' tv with scart input only, here is the run down of how I managed to get in working.
In order to display the component signals via a scart you would need to have a very expensive type of tv (one that allows YUV via scart)... i don't (you may, but it is VERY rare).
Getting a component to scart lead will NOT work (RGB input not YpPpR).
You will need a component to scart convertor. I have only found 2 that do the job as most convert the wrong way i.e. scart to component.
the one I plumped for was the SYNCBLASTER RGB2C COMPONENT TO RGB TRANSCODER and can be bought from Keene Electronics : http://www.keene.co.uk/electronics/multi.php?mycode=RGB2C
It costs £89.99 but it is worth it!
You will also need a component lead (3 phono to 3 phono) (an adaptor is included with the transcoder that will allow you to plug it into the scart socket on the transcoder)
You will also need a FULLY wired scart lead (i.e. ensure it has rgb capability - most have)
You will also need to connect the audio up to an amplifier either via the two red/white connectors OR via the optical out to an appropriate input (I use the optical to my amplifier). You will NOT be able to transmit the audio via the scart.
Once plugged in, you need to set the switches on the front of the transcoder to :
1 down
2 up
3 down
4 up
Press in the button so the light shows amber(red)
apply power to the apple tv, it should now startup and you should see a picture (if no picture is seen, wait until the white light displays on the front of the apple tv and HOLD MENU and + for 6 seconds, it will now cycle through the resolutions... click ok when you can view it).
Works a treat, and is cheaper than buying a new HD TV!
TO be honest, don't believe the bad press, the apple tv IS as good as you hoped it would be even without a HDTV....
Shame that apple didn't offer an additional composite (yellow) output, this would have prevented so many problems for so many.

The picture on my Sony SD Widescreen TV is really
dark on most of the movies I have - in most instances
making it unwatchable - I am going to try re-ripping
some DVDs paying attention to the resolution etc, but
I am not convinced this is the issue. Many of my
photos look far darker on the TV than they do on my
MacBook Pro.
I am going to take the AppleTV round to a friend who
has an HD tv and try it there to see if there is an
issue with the ATV. Failing that it is down to the
component to RGB converter I suppose.
What is other people's experience with the other
conveters out there?
Having forked out almost £100 and still not having a
watchable Apple TV, I am a bit fed up.
I called J.S Technology today, and they suggested restarting the converter - everything is now working great.
Very pleased!

After 9.0.2 Update on PS-CS2 Can't Save as PSD or jpeg

After startup of my Photoshop CS2 (WinXP), I got a notice of an update of 9.0.2, so I installed it. Now when I try to save files as PSDs or JPEGs, they end up becoming 5CM files, which I can't open. I was very content with CS2 before the update. Is there a way to uninstall the 9.0.2 update, or do I have to uninstall the whole CS2 and reinstall it? Or is there another fix? Help is much appreciated; thanks.

Resolved. After updating to 9.0.2, I edited an image and saved it as a PSD, but when naming the file I put in a "3.5x4.5cm" in the file name, and it saved it as an unopenable 5CM file. I just now took the same inage and saved it as a PSD, but omitted the "3.5x4.5cm" in the file name and it saved it just fine as a PSD. The same also for the JPEG. The problem had to be in the ".5cm" ending of the file name. Doing the 9.0.2 update just happened to be the timing of the file name problem.

Iphone5s shooting photos with GREEN color only

My mom's iphone5s currently running iOS 8.1.3 is having a problem with the camera. A part of the photo taken will turn green, as if both the red and the blue channels were turned off. The green part will be separated from the 'normal part' by a zigzag border. This problem wouldn't go away whether the flash is on or not, whether you use the front camera or the back camera. But the color would be normal if you use panorama or if you take a video. We have tried resetting, it didn't work, either.
Anyone having similar problems? Anyone having any suggestions how to solve this problem?

Can only save as psd or other photoshop file format

in cs3 extended i made changes to a photo (duotone,cuves, vignette etc.)each on its own layer,then flattened the image. when i go to save as, the dialog box only has photoshop file formats.other images i have done have all the file formats available.
i tried converting the image. it will convert as a jpg but not a tiff. also tried save as copy, no go. i ftp tiffs to my lab so i really need help with this one.
i am running windows vista.

My Firefox has started opening downloaded PDF files in a creen with no option to save or print them. How can I fix this?

I get my bills etc electronically. I then download them and save them to a file on my computer. Firefox is now opening them in a window that has only the PDF and an address bar, the "File Edit View, etc" at the top of the screen is missing and I can't figure out how to save these files.

Synching photos with iPhone on PC manually: do you need Photoshop?

on page 8 of the iPhone manual it states you can sync photos on a PC "... with either Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 or later. Or you can sync with any folder on your computer that contains images."
BUT
on page 73 there is no mention of that last option.
Any PC users out there able to manually sync without Photoshop? I only have Corel Photo Center

You can sync photos by selecting "folder" instead of adobe photoshop elements/album. Simply put the pictures you want to sync in a given folder, then you can browse to it.

Photoshop cs6 could not save as .psd because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file

Have three users with CS6 Design Standard having problem saving files to a network share. All three are running Windows 7 SP1. CS 6 has all current updates applied. Have searched google for solution but all suggestions so far have not solved problem.
Have confirmed that windows explorer preview pane is not enabled/turned off. Other users on the network have no problems saving file to shared folder. Users can save to desktop and then copy and paste or drag and drop to the share!

Further Google searching found this bit of information....and it fixed our problem!
Rather than deleting the files I renamed them as follows Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs_old & Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs_old
To fix and prevent this error from happening, the user will navigate to:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings
Depending on what version of photoshop is causing the error to appear you will delete the following file:
Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp (for 32bit version)
Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp (for 64bit version)

We have been working through this issue for the past year pretty much and over that time we've migrated to a new Mac OS X 10.9.5 Server and up to CC14 and we are still experiencing this error randomly with our Photoshop users. We have users that use Dreamweaver very heavily on the same server and have never seen this issue, therefor we are pretty certain it is isolated to Photoshop. We've also been able to test back to CS6 also having this issue.
Here is a screenshot of the error users will get after opening of file off the server (doesn't matter if its AFP or SMB) and trying to save any changes they have made:
We initially thought this was an issue on one of our older Windows servers that utilized ExtremeZIP, but since we've moved completed over to a Mac server we have been able to rule that out. We've also opened up a case with Apple Engineering have been able to show that all our permissions are set correctly and that it doesn't appear to be an Apple issue.
When our users get the above error they basically have to save the file as a new version and then go back and TRY to delete the old version, as they usually get the following error:
This has been a very long on-going issue and our users are really getting fed up as it is causing a lot of setbacks and reduction of being able to fully utilize their time. We've been able to duplicate this issue on all the OS's we have on campus including Mac OS X 10.8.5, 10.9.5 and 10.10.2.
If an email is provided I can send a sysdiagnose file over and ls -lae0 output of the server if needed.
