Touchpad acting up

Hello everyone,
I am having a problem with my touchpad. I have this multitouch macbook. For some reason today I am unable to select text or drag and drop.
I can resize using the fingers, i can tab, double click, use the three fingers, four fingers... but i cant click and select text or drag icons. sometimes after frustrating tries i manage to drag an icon very little distance then it just disconnects and drops again.
i thought maybe the touch pad not clean, i cleaned it with wet cloth and wiped it with a dry one. i've washed my hands and dried them really hard... but since the problem is with clicking and pulling then it must be something else.
just for the record, i spilled very very VERY little water on the keyboard yesterday which i wiped right away and the touch pad was working just fine. also note that the same day i purchased this mac about a year ago i spilled a whole cup of tea on it! only thing stopped working was the dvd ejecting feature the rest was just fine.
anyhow, could this be hardware problem or what?
if its hardware problem, can they just replace the touchpad? how much will it cost?

Go to System Preferences... click on the Trackpad icon and make sure you have it setup right. I don't think hardware diagnostic checks the Trackpad. I don't see how it could...
If it's a new trackpad return it.

  • Keypad and touchpad acting weird

The touchpad and keypad are acting strange. When browser open, touching anything on the page makes a box window pop-up (not always the same one)
If I click on the search box and try to type, nothing happens and a box pops up.

If the box looks like this, then voiceover is on.  You can turn it off by hitting CMD fn F5 or going to System Preferences > Universal Access > seeing tab > voiceover: off.

  • Trackpad/Touchpad acting erratically

I recently purchased a MBP in the end of July. Recently the trackpad/touchpad (whatever you want to call it) has been acting erratically. The mouse will move all over the screen, click on what it wants, right-click on what it wants, zoom in/out on what it wants, and has even been making tons of new folders on my desktop because of it's ability to left and right click randomly. When I try and move the mouse by using the trackpad, it simply freaks out and will not move the direction that I want it to. Any insight onto what the deal is? This started happening a few days after a software update.

This describes my current situation perfectly. I have tried:
    rebooted with no luck.
Closed all apps and opened them again one at a time to see if that helps.
turned off wifi and back on.
plugged in wireless usb mouse to not use trackpad, still does it.
I had to turn off all the functions of the trackpad (gestures, etc.) to keep it from switching screens but it's still jumping around. it removed things from my app bar, it sent emails before I was finished and created new folders on my desktop.
Is there something within the macbook that is pushing up against it internally? Haven't been able to find any solutions for this yet.

  • TouchPad Acting Crazy

My Lenovo Twist ThinkPad touchpad has been acting crazy recently. When I click anything on the touchpad (right or left) it clicks 3-4 times in a row. For instance, if I click to open a new tab in Internet Explorer, 3 tabs open simultaneously or if I click to open an app it will open it in 3 different windows. It is becoming a pain in the butt. I have tried messing around with the advanced settings under synaptics UltraNav settings but have not been able to fix the issue. I also updated the drivers, which did not help either. Do I need to send my computer in for repair? If anyone has been having this problem as well and found a fix, please fill me in! Thanks
    Chris

    hi akbp,
In addition to what SEAlaa have suggested, have you tried adjust the sensitivity and palm tracking settings by going to the Control Panel (large icon view) > Mouse:

    I had this problem too.
I emailed customer support and they said I should restore my player, but for some reason it would not go into restore mode.
So, what I did was I re-installed the upgrade (which I now think actually removed the upgrade). The problem did not go away. So, I re-re-installed the upgrade, and the problem went away ( I got the message that the upgrade us done successfully).
I have not tried triggering the 'restore' feature since my failure before the upgrades.

  • My 'bar' below touchpad stopped working

I was going to use my laptop this morning and the bar below the touchpad acted like it was stuck and I could not use it. The battery level was down to 28%, does this happen very often, never have seen it before in the 4+ years of ownership.

You may have to take the computer to the Apple store
or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to have
the trackpad and the battery checked out.
    Best.

  • Problem with trackpad and keyboard on Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro Early '09 (I got it about 1 month ago used) and yesterday a problem occurred. Suddenly, as I was typing a message, the keyboard stopped responding and the trackpad started acting up. Whenever I tapped with 1 finger, it would mark the text or would show the right-click options ("Copy, Cut, Paste" etc on text or "New Folder" etc on desktop).
I restarted it thinking that it would probably solve the problem, but then I couldn't even log in, because not all keys were working, so I couldn't enter the password. Pressing "O" seemed to work -not always though-, but other keys didn't. I logged in as guest user, since no password is required for that, and tried typing a URL on Google Chrome, just to see what happens. there I noticed that sometimes the F letter key would work as right arrow and A as left.
I should finally note that certain applications would not open lately (for the past weeks) and would "quit unexpectedly" (HDRtist and Inkscape, to be specific).
So, maybe it needs a Disk Utility Repair? Is it possible that this would solve both problems? But how do i do that if I can't log in as admin?
It would be better to find a way to solve this on my own without having to pay for the repair.
    Any ideas?
I know it's a common problem and that it's been posted many times, but most answers on other discussions have confused me so far.
I've read about the tape under the battery thing, but I'd prefer a different solution if anyone can offer one.
Thank you in advance. I appreciate it.

I have read of people saying Resetting SMC fixes stuck touchpad drag problems. In order to do this you must typically remove the battery.  I think it was the act of battery removal that fixed it and not the act of clearing SMC memory.
If your Macbook battery is removable and is located directly under your touchpad a bloated swollen battery could be the problem.
    Try this:
    Remove battery
Connect to magsafe power and boot up.
    Try using your touchpad
If this fixes the problem you likely have a swollen or bloated lithium battery.  My symptoms on my 15" late 2008 Macbook Pro were that the touchpad acted like it was stuck in drag mode.  The bottom left and right touchpad switches would not click or took great effort to press. I had to hit the touchpad very hard for a mouse click to be recognized.  It also screwed up opration of my bluetooth mouse. I noticed several months earlier the battery cover no longer closed tightly; there was a gap.   I should have been more curious as to why.

  • HP Pavilion x360 Toucpad is erratic

This is a new system purchased  J it an 15. I have not used   much as I am converting my data from Mac to PC.  I have from the beginning been having serious issues with the touchpad  cursor or any controls being all over the place and just doing whatever it pleases. It took me a while to find all of the settings in the Synaptic driver in Control Panel. I have experimented with all different settings and nothing changes at all. I am now pretty convinced it is not the settings, or me adapting to a new touchpad. Not sure what to do. I do have the latest driver. I have changed all settings and they are not back to the default.  It is almost impossible to use since no matter what I use it takes forever and I have no control!
Thanks for any help or assistance.

    Hi @Scentsible
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are having a problem with your TouchPad acting erratically. You mentioned that you have fiddled with your settings does that include the touch sensitivity mentioned in this HP document Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad.
If you have then I would recommend restoring the original driver using the Recovery Manager to Restore the Original Driver. Reinstall the Synaptics TouchPad driver.
If that doesn't work then the next step would be to do a full System Recovery and if you still have the issue after that then it is hardware related.

  • Signiture box on browser

    G,day
I was wondering if anyone knows a soultion for using the ipad screen to sign in a signature box on a browser.
when the External Signature browser page opens if you try to write on the screen the touchpad acts like you was to move the screen around.
I think the External Signature browser page runs off java?
If you open the browser page on a Macbook, when you move the mouse over the box the cursor changes to a cross and you click/hold to write on the screen.
I have tried several differant browsers with no luck.
    I hope this makes sence
    Cheers in advance

iOS does not support Java. If the control you describe is in fact a Java applet, you won't be able to use it on the iPad.

  • Touchpad not working, left click acting like right

Hi - I apologize if this was already asked, but I couldn't find it. I have a G Series laptop (I'm at work so I don't have the specifics on me) and as of Friday night, out of nowhere, the touchpad stopped functioning properly. All clicks responded as if I had was right clicking. Needless to say, this was annoying. I tested all of my touchpad settings, uninstalled and reinstalled, tried new drivers, rolled back drivers, system restore, etc. and nothing worked. When I plug in a USB mouse, it still works perfectly, if that helps at all. But whenever I used the left click below the touchpad, it acts as a right click (however, the touchclick, or whatever it's called on the touchpad still works as a left click). I called and was given the advice you might expect...hard reset followed by a system recovery if that didn't work. The hard reset didn't work (big surprise), and I really don't want to lose my stuff; since I can still use the USB mouse, it's not the absolute end of the world. But I'm still irritated by it. It's a month away from the warranty being over, so I need to get moving on this. But I don't know how helpful HP is going to be with this (judging by their first bits of advice, not very). Any suggestions? This literally happened out of nowhere. I seem to remember this happening sometimes on my desktop, but that always managed to remedy itself by clicking some buttons, shutting down, etc. This time, that's not doing the trick. I'd appreciate any insight or help into this issue. Thanks very much!

Had the same problem, what I did works just as well but it's an adjustment. Go to touchpad settings (under 'Synaptics Touchpad v6.5')then click on buttons, manual for right mouse Instead of the normal right button setting, I switched it to button completely disabled.  Now your mousepad only recognises left clicking and if you want to use the right mouse button, you lick once with the touchpad on the item you want, then click the button on the right of 'alt gr' (on the left of 'ctrl')this has the same ability. Inias

  • How do i get the touchpad to act like a mousewheel?

i have an HP Notebook, i believe it is the 2,000. it uses Windows 7
is there any way i can use a mousewheel feature from the touchpad without an actual mouse?

thanks so much for responding to my problem.
i don't know what multitouch means, in regard to a touchpad.
i will look for the synaptics touchpad driver on google.
    thank you.

  • Zen Sleek Touchpad problem - scrolling down acts like a scroll

Yes, a strange problem I ran into today. Everytime I try to scroll down using the touchpad on my Zen Sleek, the cursor moves up instead. It's like the whole touchpad can only move the cursor in one-direction, up. Even if I try to use the rapid-scroll, the cursor just moves up rapidly
This happened yesterday, when on one bar of battery, my Sleek, around the afternoon froze while starting up and I could not restart it because I did not have a paperclip on me. After I get home hours later, I charge my Sleek since the battery died. And, now, today... I am at this rather strange problem.
And, my Sleek hasn't given me problems since I bought it a year ago besides the occasional lockups on one-bar of battery.

Creative Zen Sleek Photo and Zen Sleek
. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off.
    2. Connect the power supply to the player.
    3. Hold down the Play/Pause button while inserting a paper clip into the Reset hole
underneath your player, beside the data/power connector. Keep on holding the
Play/Pause button while you release the Reset button. The Rescue Mode screen will
    then appear.
    4. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button
It will display the following options.
    Clean Up
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
