Touchpad After Reformat

I reformated my computer from windows 10 to windows 8.1 within the last week. After I did that my touchpad was on and I went to turn it off but the button didn't work. I tried installing a driver I found on the HP driver site place and that didn't work. I looked at my devices and printers area in control panel and there is a triangle symbol with a ! in the middle.
I tried using trouble shoot but nothing happened, it would look for the missing driver and then repeat the process without anything being fixed. I used windows 8.1 on this laptop in the past and I never had this problem but now I do.
My laptop is a HP ProBook 4540s
Thank you for your time

Use a third-party utility likePhone to Mac 4.3.0.2. You cannot sync from an iPhone to iTunes.

  • After reformatting hard drive, iPod syncs very slowly with iTunes

A couple of months ago I had to reformat my computer's hard drive. I keep all my music files on an external hard drive. After reformatting, the man who did this for me reloaded iTunes for me and imported all my music back into my iTunes library.
It seems that since that time, when I sync my iPod to the iTunes library, it takes many times longer than it used to. Maybe something else happened to my iPod or iTunes and the reformat is just a conincidence, but it really does seem to take three or four times longer to sync.
I have iTunes 7.4.1.2 and my iPod is an older one, a 40G with dock connector
Also, I recently bought some audiobooks to put on my iPod. I only had about 600megs available so the iPod would not sync. I then removed several Gigs from my iTunes library. When I click on the "music" icon under "library" it shows that I have only a little over 29G used which should leave well over 5 plus Gigs available for the new music. But when I try to sync the iPod, it gives me the message that I have only approx. 600 megs available. What's up. I never have had this problem before and I have had the iPod for several years.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

I actually learned yesterday that Apple didn't put USB 2.0 in their Macs until G5... something I was VERY irritated to find out. Turns out they were betting that Fire Wire would take off instead of USB 2.0, so they only equipped their machines with USB 1.1. So as a result, my iPod is unacceptably slow. Other nagging problems like this are convincing me that I'll have to get a new Mac Pro in the coming year, but for the meantime I think I'll be buying a USB 2.0 PCI card.
    Thanks for your response.

  • After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine:Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on? the WD disk has mounted??

After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine: "Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on?"  I've reformatted in Disk Utilities...not sure what I did wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

  • Grub won't install after reformat from gentoo install (error 18)

Previously I had gentoo installed with grub in the / partition in sdb2 (hd1,1).  I got through the arch install after reformatting that jfs partition except grub wouldn't install because it said the "Selected Cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS".  I didn't change any partitioning so I don't understand how that would be possible.
I ran fdisk to fix the partition order, but it didn't have anything to fix.  Another oddity is that when I try to boot up, I get a grub command prompt with no errors, and that mapping is different (sdb is hd0).  I can't really change my partitions, because sdb1 is a 1.5+ tb partition and I don't have room to backup the data.

Well I found a workaround for my problem.  It's not ideal, but I installed grub to sdb1, which is a home partition instead of sdb2 (my /).

  • Trying to upload itunes library after reformatting...

A couple of weeks ago my ipod starting skipping through songs as though it was stuck on fast forward. After going through the recommended troubleshooting fixes, it got to the point where the ipod wouldn't even turn on... it would just flash the apple logo over and over again.
According to the ipod support site, when this happens the ipod needs to be put into disk mode and then completely reformatted. I did this last night. After reformatting it, I hooked it back up to my computer so it would upload all of the songs in my itunes library back onto the ipod. Since I had well over 1000 songs to upload, I decided to let it run all night long.
This morning I got up to find an error on the computer saying that itunes.exe had timed out and could not complete the action. The ipod itself still said "Do Not Disconnect" and when I tried to restart the upload, the whole computer froze.
Is there a timeout setting on itunes that is going to prevent me from uploading everything in my library back onto the ipod? I searched the preferences and such and found nothing, but this is really frustrating because after having to restart my computer this morning after it froze, it started uploading again at song 1 as though it did nothing last night.
Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated...
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
Have you tried restoring your iPod?
    Restore your iPod.
    Connect your iPod.
    Go to "Edit->Preferences->iPod".
Select your setting in "music" to "manual".
After that, go back to your library, select about 100 songs in the library (to start with), and drag-and-drop them into the name of your iPod in the left source panel.
See if this manual way works instead of the automatic way (I was presuming that your setting was for automatic). Drag your songs to your iPod at about 100 songs at a time.

  • I can't activate my phone after reformatting it. My old appleID can't unlock the phone after it was been hacked and erase information inside

I am having dilemma after reformatting my iPhone 5 and I can't get through the re-activation page. It requires me to log-in using my old apple ID which I abandoned 2 years ago after it was been hacked. Apparently, I was able to retrieve my old Apple ID and iCloud, however, the purchased items, downloaded apps, the linked device ("find my iphone app" to link) and other information were wiped out. I reset the password several times to see whether it helps, but still shows error message "Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this phone".
Any advices and help to get through?

Also I have not done anything to the phone ever since I bought it, so I assume that it's locked?

  • Weird cookies after reformatting

Hey, I recently reformatted my macbook pro (today) and after installing all the updates to the point where there were none left, i opened up safari, and set up preferences, and in the show cookies box, there were 2 cookies from weird sites, them being videolog.uol.com.br and rocinha.videolog.tv. My cookies option was set to accept cookies to only sites i navigate to. I don't understand how i Could have gotten any of them after reformatting my MBP and visiting just macrumors and gizmodo

    Welcome to the Apple boards.
Simple enough to check. Delete the cookies and browse to the sites you browsed to and see if the cookies come back.
Some websites get around the "do not accept 3rd party cookies" one way or the other.
You could also have imported them if you chose to import anything after installing.
Some of us use a "hosts" file which redirects many of these to a "401 File not found" by pointing to 127.0.0.1. whenever a URL in the hosts file matches one in the real world.

  • Putting music from iPod to PC after reformatting hard drive

I'm new to the world of iPod Nanos and am still learning how things work. I had to reformat my PC due to a computer problem. I saw some place a note about moving music from the Nano to iTunes after reformatting, but I can't find it anywhere.
So my question is this: How do I move the music from my iPod Nano to iTunes so that I can put the files back on my PC?
I didn't do any back ups of music on the iTunes before I formatted because I hadn't thought to do that. I can see the songs in iTunes, but it won't move from the iPod to the iTunes Library.
Thanks for any help you can offer me!

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of these here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Reloading songs into iTunes after reformatting computer

I recently reformatted my computer but I had backed up all of my music onto an external harddrive
So after reformatting, I load all of my music back onto the C drive and then reinstalled iTunes.
All of my music still shows in the library of iTunes but most have that exclamation point showing that it doesnt know where the file for the song is.
Lately ive been manually dragging songs one by one into the library but i have almost 5000 songs and thats gonna be a reallllyyy long process lol.
So I was wondering what the "fast" way to do this is?

I was watching this topic as well and in the process of watching it i had to reinstall my itunes. I installed a registry fixer program called registry booster2 from uniblue and ran it before i installed quicktime or itunes. I downloaded a seperate up to date quicktime and than installed the up to date itunes and when I put my music back on I did not have any of those exclamation marks.
don't know if it will work for you but thought i would share.

  • Powerbook is giving me the Mac version of BSOD, even after reformat!

Hey everyone. Wish I could say I was a happy poster. I've been using Macs since I was 6, and was psyched to get a Powerbook last June for college. It worked flawlessly up until winter break, when it started getting all these weird crashes that became more and more prevalent. Something I'd never seen before--a Mac BSOD where a grey windowshade pulls down and it tells me I need to restart.
This was happening every few minutes--got to the point where I could barely log in. I logged in as another user--it didn't happen so quickly to that user--and did permissions repair. Nothing. Reset PRAMs, etc, everything.
When I got back to school, I noticed that I was low on HD space. Lower than I should have been. When I went to copy my user directory to my external HD, I noticed that though Finder told me my user directory was 46 gigs, I was only copying 7.65 over. I have 20 gigs of music I wasn't going to back up--my iPod is for that--so where were the extra 19 gigs coming from?
Well, my Library, when it was being copied, was 2.1 gigs. That's the version that was backed up.
The library on my home directory? 22 gigs.
I figured something had gone crazily out of control, so I tried to reformat it. Zeroed the disk. Then it wouldn't install off my 10.4 upgrade disk, and when I tried to book off a 10.3 disk from the kid down the hall, the Apple logo fragmented and it wouldn't nudge.
So I started it in target disk mode and installed 10.3 from that kid's laptop. Messy, but it was the only option. Restarted my computer and it seemed to work...then I got the message again. Restarted, and it was fine for a week, during most of which I left it on except for the obligatory restarts for reinstalling programs.
Well, today it started happening again. And the problems are coming more quickly now. I'm kind of surprised that I've managed to type out this message (knock on wood) because normally having my comp on for this long would kill it. But I'm only running Safari, so maybe that's why...I'm not taxing it.
    I'm running 10.4 on a Powerbook 12" with 768 megs RAM.
What in the holy **** is happening to my computer? Can anyone suggest a fix that maybe a zeroing of the disk and jerry-rigged install might have missed? Or is this the type of thing where I need to send it back to Apple and pray that they fix it quickly type thing?
Oh, when I copied my files back over from the external HD, I barely copied anything from the (presumably corrupted) Library. My mail and my fonts--that's it.
H.E.L.P. Apple forums, you haven't let me down before...please help now! Has anyone else had this problem? Does any of this make sense?

    Powerbook 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I recently had a client with a similar problem, but hers was on a PowerMac G5. She could be working and she would get random crashes. I updated her to 10.4 from 10.3. After that she could barely get logged in before it would crash. And at times, she didn't even get the grey screen, her computer stopped working.
I finally traced it down to the RAM in her Mac. She had some from a third-party. Once it was removed, and eventually replaced, her Mac has been working fine. You might want to check the RAM in your Powerbook.
Remove one module, test it out. Then put it back in and remove the remaining module. Do you get the same results with both of them? Crashes with only one of them? If only one of them causes the crashes, then you can figure out which module to replace.

  • Macbook Pro still running slow after reformat

So my Macbook pro, which is about 3-4 years old now, just started running slow after the latest update i did, whichever the latest one was. Possibly a security update or whatever it was. So i decided it was time to reformat and just clear out the stuff on my computer so i erased the HD and reinstalled Snow Leopard. After all that it still lags and is slow. Its slow on things like scrolling down a web page, or opening programs, or when i use expose, it isn't super smooth like it normally is.
My MBP has 4gb of ram and 2.2ghz. I have also tried to repair the disk permissions, but didnt seem to help drastically. Any suggestions?

    Hi there,
Have you applied all updates? Using Software Update or manually? Checked for EFI and SMC versions?
Don't you have any clue from Console logs?
Repair as T posted and bring back news and info about your Graphic Card.
    Good luck.

  • External harddisk became extremely slow after reformat using disk utility

hello everyone~ let me try to describe as clear as possible!
to start with, i have 2 external harddisk:
    hd(A)-120G, format in Mac OS Extended (journaled), it's and old harddisk and is nearly full;
hd(B)-200G, format in MS-DOS (ie. FAT32), it's a new harddisk with plenty of space.
what i wanted to do: make both hd(A) & hd(B) read & writable in mac & windows.
so, i tried to move all files in hd(A) to hd(B), hope to reformat the hd(A) to MS-DOS. but then i found out many big files can't be moved to hd(B) at all, and then i found out there's a 4G limit to the FAT32 format.
then, i tried to format hd(B) in NTFS, hoping that it can be read & writable with the help of MacFuse in both mac & windows without file size limit. so i downloaded and installed the MacFuse in my mac and format the hd(B) in a PC with Vista. well i was a bit impatient.. so i chose quick format only. then i plugged it in my mac~ yes it's readable & writable!! but the speed was like... 2mbps.......yes, 2MB per second. i really can't stand this speed! i thought it's becoz of the NTFS format... maybe it makes the transfer speed slow in mac?
so finally... i reformat the hd(B) into Mac OS Extended (journaled) using Disk Utility in OSX. i gave up the idea to make it usable in both mac & window.. i juz want the bigger harddisk to serve as a backup storage harddisk and i'll be happy with that already. so, after the format, i started moving files from hd(A) to hd(B)...and....well... the speed remained at 2MB per second.... which means, it takes like an hour to transfer juz 2G or so... i think the speed is very strange right?? maybe i messed it up making it different formats one time and another... and i dunno what to do with it now!!
    anyone...please help me?? =(

Hi aniDa, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You might try reformatting it but choose the Security Option button to Zero Data once.
