Touchpad and some keys won't work, other weird problems

I have a Satellite A665. Last night it started randomly playing and then turning off a DVD that was in the drive. I ejected the DVD, but now there is a constant high pitched tone coming out of the speakers, and the touchpad can't be used to open anything. The touchpad can still control the cursor, and I can left click to open things. Also, the internet connection has disconnected and the key used to open the connection doesn't work. Pressing and holding the Fn key doesn't do anything.

Shut down the computer and try again. It almost sounds like something is on the keyboard, or maybe something got spilled on the keyboard. Try an external keyboard and see if that works. Try booting from the CD or a flash drive and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, this is a software problem. If not, it's the hardware.

Page Up and Down keys won't work - have tried everything

My Page Up and Down keys won't work. I've tried hitting F7, the Fn key, checked that the "Always use cursor keys to navigate" box is not selected in the Advanced Options tab and made sure that the "Use autoscrolling" tab is selected. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox, tried hitting buttons F1 through to F12 and then checked that accessibility.warn_on_browsewithcaret is set to 'true'.

What causes some of my keys not to work?

You'll need to provide some additional information .... what keys won't work, what is running on the system when that happens, does it only happen after an event, like waking from sleep or ? If you reboot or shut your system down and restart does that fix it for some period of time?

[Solved]Keyboard layout screwed up and some keys don't work

After I reinstalled xorg-server 1.5.3-1 and installed xf86-input-evdev 2.0.1-1 and xf86-input-keyboard 1.3.1-1 some of my keys don't work and keyboard layout screwed up. I had finnish (fi) layout, but now it's "us". Arrows, insert- delete- home- end- pg up- pg down- print screen- scroll lock- pause- keys don't work. All characters behind Alt Gr + "" don't work either.
How to fix this?

My Mac won't boot past white screen and startup keys won't work

Hello. I have an iMac not sure what year.
So about a year ago it froze and wouldn't restart, so I neglected it for a year. Now that this my only fixable Mac I have been researching to fix it. I was able to boot into safe mode about a week ago for a little bit but then it froze again. Ever since then none of the startup keys work, even resetting the PRAM, I heard the second ding and then it just brings up the cursor on the white screen with no disk options.
I have an external disk drive connected to the USB I'd like to boot my Mountain Lion from but since the start up keys don't work I don't know how to do that.
Any help would be incredible, I do not care about saving anything from the computer I just want it to work. I hate dealing with the "geniuses" so that's not an option.

When you hear the startup tone hold down the Option key and you should be able to boot into the Recovery Partition if you have Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks on the internal HD. If even the Option key does not work then your keyboard may have dead batteries or be defective and in need of replacement.
If you have ML on the EHD as a bootable clone then you should be able to boot from it.
My best guess is you have a failed HD though, my advice is to take it in for professional diagnosis to your local Apple Store or AASP and get a quote on what is wrong then decide how you want to proceed.

My f5 and f6 keys won't work on a game i play?

I play a game called runescape and there is hotkeys which are f1-f5 mainly and i am trying to use these hotkeys to do certian things faster and my F5-F6 won't work, please help i'm a new mac user since last christmas!

What do you do when you spill water on your key board and some keys no longer work?

I spilt coffee on my key board I few hours ago and just wiped it off. It worked fine when I did that and then I left it for a few hours just on stand by. Now have come back to go on the laptop the key board doesn't work. Only a few of the keys work but because of that I cant get on the laptop because I cant enter my password. What do I do?

Hopefully you havent fryed your machine and I would suggest if your mac boots up ok try pluging a usb keyboard in or a wireless one to it and see if that gets you out of the fix.
I will need cleaning by a profesional though I would imagine
What i suspect has happened is the coffee has dried with the heat of the machine and is blocking the electrical conections through the keys

Sound stuck in Mute and volume keys won't work

The other day, I happened to Mute my sound. Now, it will not let me return to having sound. I have tried the volume up and volume down keys, but they don't respond. I've tried adjusting the sound using System Preferences, but to no avail, since there is nothing listed in the "output" window. I do get a start-up sound when the system boots up, so I don't think the speakers have died. And the sound still doesn't work if I plug headphones into the jack... anyone?

thanks - I tried that - for some reason, I decided to just back up recent files and reload the 10.3.9 update and now all the keys are working again.... Thanks for your input - I don't know what little demon was posessing the ibook, but I'm glad reinstalling the update killed it.

Satellite L305D-S5881: Touchpad and FN keys do not work after Win 7 installation

I have recently installed windows 7 and all of a sudden yesterday my touchpad did not work.
I was not able to move my mouse arrow at all.
I had to purchase a wireless mouse so I could use my laptop.
When I press the fn key plus f9 nothing happens to see if it is enabled or disabled.

The Satellite L305D-S5881 belongs to the Toshiba US series and has been released for US market.
You will need to visit the Toshiba US driver page in order to get all drivers.
To get the touchpad working, you will need to install the Touchpad driver.
Furthermore the FN buttons are controlled by VAP (value added package) and Flash Card Support Utility.
You need to install both; firstly VAP and then Flash Cards.

Some keys won't work properly on MacBook Air

I've had the MAB for about 3-4months now and i never had this problem. All of a sudden, possibly after updating MAC OS, the keys such as 'r' and '4' and 'v' will not work properly. It is not like they are not working at all, they just show weird keys.
Eg. when i press 'r' 2-3 times, 'IOU' or 'awerq' would show up most of the times. same for v and 4.
anyone had this problem? I tried playing around with the language settings, resetting my keyboard shortcuts, but no luck.
do i have to format my MAB?

PAGEUP and PAGEDOWN keys won't work in Bookmarks Toolbar. HOME and END key works fine though.

I have tried the ui.elantech_gesture_hacks.enabled method, Firefox in Safe Mode as well as deleting an existing profile and running a new one, uninstalled Firefox and removed all entries/folders associated with it and reinstalled, restarted computer numerous times in between methods, have also updated and rolled back drivers for wireless keyboard and mouse. Nothing works. Problem started when I installed Firefox 4, now I have version 23.0.1 and still can't use the mentioned keys.
I could still use PGUP/DN if I open the bookmarks using CTRL+B on the side but it makes work more productive and less stressful on the wrists if I can just scroll through by Bookmarks via the toolbar.

Yes, those keys seems to be not implemented for the bookmarks toolbar.
If this for folder the you have created yourself then you can consider to organize the bookmarks in sub folders that do not require scrolling.
I personally use code in userChrome.css to add scroll bars to make it easy to reach content like live feeds that require scrolling.

Return AND Enter keys won't work. Help

Neither key works. Restoring keyboard default didn't work. Very frustrating. Is there a way I can change functionality of keys to get 'Return' and/or 'Enter' back in my mix? Now the 'V' button no longer works unless I use the shift key. I do not enjoy having to switch back and forth between cap-locks on and cap-locks off.

The Apple Store was an interesting experience - in Spain, that is. It took three people to solve my problem. The first problem was that they were unable to find a mains cable for a Mac Mini - in fact they viewed the Mac Mini as though it had just dropped from an alien spaceship. I was then given an appointment in the Genius Bar and passed to a person who purported to know about them and who spoke tolerable English (better than my Spanish!). We did communicate and he did understand my problem but, after spending fifteen minutes looking for suitable gear in the form of a screen, a mouse and a keyboard (wouldn't you think this would all be ready to go?), he set it all up and felt that it might be the hard drive or a RAM problem. I explained that it had been working perfectly just twelve hours ago until I made my foolish boob. He then called a colleague who spoke excellent English, looked at the scree, listened to the HD, unplugged everything, unscrewed the base, took out a memory card, put back the base, plugged everything in and off we went. That took two minutes and now I;ve seen him do it, I would have a go if the same problem arose again. Just be careful taking off and replacing the base and remember to replace the ram after you've got it working.
