Touchpad appears to be almost frozen.

I can't click on any of the icons to get email, pictures etc. but it does allow me to change from settings to downloads and favorites but won't allow me to to access anything. When I click on an icon, there is a glow of light behind it but
nothing happens. I can't reset the "thing" because I can't get in to do it and when I hold both the center button and the
launcher at the same time as I was once told to do by tech support, nothing happens. The battery is full.....help!

Actually you wrote "center button and the launcher" which I did not understand.

  • I was in the middle of updating my iphone 4 (? version 10.1) when an error message appeared. Screen now frozen with apple logo, empty bar below and phone won't turn on or off

I have a frozen screen (black with the apple logo & an empty bar below) following an error message that appeared during an update of version 10.1 on my iphone 4.
I am not able to turn off the phone (or on!) Any ideas?

The iPod Touch kept trying to reboot yesterday but would only show the Apple logo screen then shut off - it finally drained the battery overnight I am guessing. Connected to USB the battery charging icon flashes.
Took it back to Best Buy, but they wouldn't touch it or replace it since it's under warranty.
To any potential buyers - beware. My best advice is to look somewhere besides Apple. Every Mac user I know has had to return a Mac, laptop, etc. Really poor quality control, and the retailers agree (Geek Squad told me they have had the same experience with Apple products).

  • Curious -- Startup question (Hard Disk icon appear and computer is frozen)

I came home today, turned on my new MacBook Pro 15" and stepped away. A very few seconds later I came back and instead of seeing everything all loaded up as usual, I got a grey screen with a picture of my hard drive in the center with an arrow pointing up towards it under it. I tried to use my mouse, to no effect. Everything was just frozen. No question mark or warning, just a photo-realistic picture of my hard drive (or a standard Apple hard drive) and that arrow. I clicked the power button, and it restarted and everything worked fine. Could someone give me some advice/feedback as to what this was? Is it symptomatic of a more serious hard drive problem?

Wonderlad: If your MBP started up just fine on the second try, and you were able to run Disk Utility's Repair Disc routine twice on it (as in fact you did) without any major problems showing up, you probably have nothing to worry about. It sounds as though you inadvertently pressed the Option key the first time you started up (when the hard disk icon appeared and the startup didn't continue), or made some other minor mistake of that sort.
Each of your hard drives is represented by at least two lines in the left pane of Disk Utility. The upper line for each drive shows the drive's manufacturer and model number (in the case of an external drive, it's the drive unit inside the enclosure, not the maker of the enclosure); the line or lines indented beneath that one are the volumes (partitions) you've created on the drive. It sounds as though each of your drives has only one volume on it, and if that's true, the Repair Disk button has the same effect regardless of whether you've selected the drive mechanism or the volume on it.
When there's a CD or DVD in your optical drive, the optical drive mechanism and the disc also appear in Disk Utility's left pane. Disk Utility can't repair them, though.

  • Can't take photos and prompt keeps appearing saying STORAGE ALMOST FULL, YOU CAN MANAGE STORAGE IN SETTINGS but get stuck once I go to settings

Can't take photos on my iPad and the prompt keeps appearing, STORAGE ALMOST FULL YOU CAN MANAGE STORAGE IN SETTINGS. Which I do but don't get any further!

Do you have a computer around?  You could try plugging your iPad in and deleting uneeded apps, songs, movies, etc. using iTunes.

  • Touchpad left-click (primary click) frozen..

    I recently bought a MSI gt72 2qe with windows 8.1 installed..
The laptop runs Synaptics Touchpad 7.5 with the newest 18.1.30.4 driver installed.
The touchpad and laptop has worked without problems until two days ago.
For some reason when the computer booted the left-click became stuck, not physically but on the mini-icon in the buttom right corner i shows the left click is being pushed down all the time.. This makes me unable to use the computer... I just hightlight or mark everything when i move the pointer around. The right click touchpad button or secondary click works as normal but im not able to move the pointer without the primary click is pushed down.
When I plug in an external mouse i am able to use this one without any problems. but the touchpad click still doesn't work.
When i switch the primary click (normal left click) to right touchpad click the problem appears here too. This means it cant be a physical problem. Now the left click is the secondary click and functions well doing so.
I have tried installing new touchpad driver from official msi site. I located the gt72 2qe laptop, then found the driver to Synaptic touchpad.
I have tried reinstalling my whole windows system and the problem still appears.
I have tried running my drivers in compatibilty mode.
I have tried uninstalling synaptic driver and installing again.
I have tried finding similar cases on google but i cant find any, and neither any solutions
Nothing fix this very annoying problem..
    Thank you

I have the same issue. the left click does not work at all. Even when the button's are interchanged. Kindly let me know if this is a software or hardware issue show that it can be addresses before my return period runs out.

  • IPhone synching appears to delete almost all entries in Address Book

When I left the house yesterday, Address Book on my MBP had 2,187 contacts in it. When I looked at it this AM, Address Book had 4 entries. My iPhone and another computer, both of which are synched against this computer using dot-mac and iTunes, respectively, seemed unchanged. I didn't launch Address Book on the offending computer during this time.
My first thought was to restore using dot-mac. I went to another computer which syncs against my .mac membership, and I overwrote .mac with local. I then overwrote Address Book on my MBP with dot-mac. Everything seems to have been restored. (I keep regular backups of Address Book because of the large number of sync errors I experience, so I can revert to a backup also).
I then thought to look in my log file, which, I think, pins iTunes synching as the culprit. Here is relevant material from my log file:

Any thoughts as to why this happened, or what I can do to avoid it in the future?
    Alan

Alright, ten minutes later, it's all back and good again.
Doesn't make sense, and I do not know which if any of these steps did it, but here's what I did, in order that I did them:
    1. Deleted the file 'com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist,' quit Address Book.
    2. In iTunes' iPhone "Info" tab, clicked off all syncing except "Sync Address Book Contacts" and I clicked "Selected Groups" instead of "All Contacts." Then I selected the smallest group I have, just three contacts, so that if they got deleted from the iPhone I wouldn't have to die.
    3. Clicked "Apply" Or "Sync" or whichever the button was. It started syncing. I didn't see the SyncAlert window that I expected to see.
    4. Sync finished. I opened Address Book and voila, everything was as it should be including the new contact I made this morning on my iPhone before seeing that all this happened on my Mac.
And now step 5. In Address Book, File>Backup Address Book to my documents and my external backup drive and my dot Mac, and realize that syncing isn't doing that for me. Add this file to my regular weekly backups.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help! Spreadsheet is almost frozen

The spreadsheet I'm using in Appleworks 6.2.7 has slowed down all of a sudden. The beach ball turns and turns, and I'm not able to enter data into the cells. Occasionally the data will show up in the cell, but it takes a very long time. One strange thing I have noticed is that the ball sometimes changes from the colorful "beach ball" to the black and white one that was used by Classic. I never use Classic anymore, but I think it may have something to do with some kind of a Classic/OS X switch or something. Does anybody know how I can fix this? I need my spreadsheet! Thanks!!

  • Touch screen Zoomed out totally and is almost frozen.

Tried switching off, reset, restore via i-tunes etc..
    Who can help me?
    Rgds,
    Monique
    The Netherlands

Happened to me with both unintended 3 finger taps (zoom) and 3x homebutton (negative)
These useless 'quick buttons' are VERY annoying (2 unitended taps with 3 fingers or 3 unintended clicks with the home button etc.)
Maybe we have people around us that know these tricks, and play games with us, but ....I already restored my phone twice for a perceived VIRUS.
1st time all remained in photo negative (press home button 3 x which I did not know). Lost all my data and the iPhone remained in negative until someone gave me the 'code' to resolve this. (Really looks like something is wroing: who would want 'negative' as a homebutton feature...?)
Then this 'unresolvable' zoom occured today which made me sick and restore. Until I read this forum.
Apple used to be the ultimate 'user friendly' 'foolproof' company, and we all might be fools, but who the **** would want to have a MEGA zoom feature that disallows any operation of your phone and remains even after a restart?!
    APPLE:
PLEASE TAKE THESE 'SHORTCUT ACTIVATION' FEATURES OUT of the primary interface
and make many unintended users happy!!
And if they need to be there, put them in the 'settings' menu, because just look at the Forums and draw your own conclusions !!

  • Touchpad appears to have collapsed

Ok, the things only a week old but I'm a bit concerned about a couple of things, one I've already posted a thread about, and this one, being the trackpad.
I know the whole thing is supposed to be a button, but the left hand corner feels nowhere near as responsive as the right. The right hand bottom corner dips like a button in the way I would expect, but the bottom left only presses down a minute amount and does not press like a button.
The top two corners are solid, and fixed, I'm guessing this is intentional so only the bottom half is a button on a hinge, but is one corner supposed to press down further or is this a fault developing?
Any advice would be appreciated greatly. Thanks

The trackpad is adjustable as you can see here:
    http://www.myservice.com/blog/2009/06/macbook-pro-unibody-trackpad/
However, this is not considered a user adjustment. You may want to take it into Apple to let them know the problem you were experiencing and ask if they can just check to make sure it is within spec.
I guess the problem now is that it seems to be working well since you slipped a piece of paper in there (if I'm understanding you correctly)... so it may be difficult to diagnose. No harm in having them take a look though... you can just let them know it happens intermittently.

  • MacBook Pro -Touchpad & Keyboard Frozen - Can't Unlock

After last using my 13" MacBook Pro, I closed the lid to put it into sleep mode.  When I opened it back up the next morning, I get the screen display, but both the touchpad and the keyboard are frozen.  I can't type in my password and thus can't fully awaken my unit.  My OS is fully up to date.
TIA for any and all tips.

    PROBLEM SOLVED:
First, understand that when it comes to Mac's, I'm still a real novice/noob, having been on the MS side of the house since ACSII days.  Yes, I have an iPhone and an iPad, but this is a little different.
I opened the lid and first tried Control+R to get to the IOS, which didn't work.  The MacBook went back to sleep.  I then woke it back up and immediately did what I presumed was a shutdown method only good on Windows machines: I pressed the ON/OFF switch and held it down, to force a shut down.
It worked! Computer shut down, I rebooted and all is well.  Thanks dominic, you started me thinking on some things, and I figured "well, why not, what's the worst that could happen?"

  • Physical buttons on E440 touchpad won't work after coffee spill: capacitive layer works fine

Hi, can you help me with my stupid problem?
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Is there a way to enable trackpoint to work with the capacitive layer? I.e. to be able to use it without physically pushing the pad down. Now, as soon as I touch the trackponit, it disables light clicks (touches) of the touchpad, I guess to prevent unintended palm clicks
    2) Is there anything I can do to make the buttons work again? (See the story below.) I have cleaned it all even inside, but there were almost no stains at all anyway, none on chips or cables. And it partially worked just this morning.
I guess I could soak it in water, then ethanol, and finally dig into rice grains for a week or two as a last resort...but I hope for a more electronics-friendly solution.
    Story:
I spilled my coffee into the keyboard and touchpad, and even though almost no water got onto the motherboard (a few drops), I cut off the power supply in less than 10 seconds, and I cleaned it all thoroughly (even managed to get inside the touchpad itself and assemble it all back...what a pain), it works weird.
At first, it registered about 1/10 or 1/20 of physical button presses (depressions of the pad). So technically it somewhat worked. The capacitive (touch) layer worked fine including multitouch. Then I tried to just click on it repeatedly for about 100 times rapidly, and it started to miraculously work 100% fine...for about 30 minutes, then it returned to the 1/20 state again. But as soon as it started to work fine, the multitouch recognition died, so it wouldn't scroll etc. And after returning to the bad state again, multitouch was still dead. Then I tried to reinstall the drivers: multitouch has started to work (so scrolling and gestures are OK now). But the physical buttons appear to be absolutely dead at this moment, it won't register any click/depression at all. The capacitive layer works fine though, so I can still use it as a normal touchpad without physical keys.
But this renders trackpoint unusable as it requires physical depressions of the touchpad to register clicks.
    Thank you very much!

    hi, calleasto
sorry to hear about this mishappen. I recognize it, since it happened to me a few years ago, also my daughter pooring thee (not coffee - but the difference is marginal - ) into an external keyboard. I took it apart and cleaned and dried it very carefully, but never got it working again. This was an external keyboard.
a similar failure occurred to other people with they laptop keyboards (and to me, without "using" any liquid). I presume - without knowing really the interiors of the laptop keyboards - that (1) they are read out in a kind of matrix (sensitive bars arranged in rows and (almost) columns corresponding to keys), which needs two layers of contact strips; and that (2) the layers are separated by plastic sheets.
Your diagnostics seems to imply that
    1) there are still bad contacts (might be liquid where it shouldn't be);
    2) the contact point has shifted ;
The latter could perhaps be due to liquid shifting the pressure away from the point where it should be applied.
    What i would do:
Give the keyboard much time for drying - perhaps by removing the keys again. But there is always the chance that the temperature of the coffee, and the residues are causing troubles and might cause some keys not to function properly.
I think (i am not sure !!) you have a "unibody": i think it is "unique " in the sense that it has no screws (except at the bottom) - and no Firewire outlet. I have never opened my MB, but the only way i see for opening it is from the bottom (there are 4 screws at mine) - but i do not know whether it is advisable to open it. I would check via Phone with Apple before doing anything myself.
    Hope this helps.

  • Satellite L series - Touchpad not working when AC charger pluged in

guys.... pls, some help... i have headaches ;))
my touchpad its almost frozen, when i plug my AC charger
    its working only on battery
when i plug the charger, the touchpad its almost frozen... if i put an USB mouse, its working but still, not perfect... the cursor moves a little slower... and, the buttons its like they have no strenght when i push them... sometimes works, sometimes i have to push 2 or 3 times, to click''; the touchpad buttons are working perfectly.... so, i use the mouse to move the cursor and to click , i use the touchpad buttons
    have any ideea why ?
=>> i did uninstaled and reinstaled the drivers
=>> i even did a bios update, but nothing changed
=>> i disabled and also uninstalled the ACPI from the battery, with no use
=>> NO, its not a FN problem
    pls... ? :)

    Hi
There are some threads in this forum where some users reported a similar issue.
As far as I know the problem was a AC adaptor malfunction.
Using new, compatible AC adaptor has solved the issue.
    Good luck!
